I went to Nvision Eye Center in Tigard, Oregon to have my eyes checked for glaucoma, and unfortunately, my experience with Dr. Young was very disappointing. From the start, he was rude and dismissive to both my wife and I and didn't take the time to really listen to my situation or concerns. Instead of discussing all possible treatment options, after one attempt of a brand of eye drops, he immediately started recommending laser surgery without even considering or explaining other non-invasive options. It felt like he was putting the cart before the horse. To make things worse, he (his office) canceled one of my appointments, stating Dr. Young was sick, and then later Young acted as if it was my fault for missing the appointment and not taking my eye care seriously. His overall bedside manner was poor, and the interaction left my wife and I both feeling frustrated and dismissed. I rarely leave negative reviews, but I believe patients deserve to be treated with respect and given the opportunity to make informed decisions about their health. So will keep this short and sweet, mainly because this review is about Dr. Bruce Madsen and not NVISION, because Dr. Madsen did my cataract/IOL surgery before coming to NVISION. Dr. Madsen was an awesome doctor for my cataract/IOL surgery. Very easy to talk to, explained everything upfront, and made sure I was comfortable with the expected outcomes (and downsides) for IOL vs. monofocal lenses (what insurance pays for) Net-net, my left eye ended up at 20/15 and my right eye a smidge over 20/20. But my upclose vision with my right eye was sharp at 12" and my left eye didn't get sharp until closer to 20". So unless I am trying to tie a flyfishing fly, I am 100% eyeglass free. I can read books, menus and my iPhone without readers, and have great long distance vision as well. My surgery was done in 2018 and everything is still great. read more

Recently got my LASIK procedure done at NVISION it was definitely a great experience! I have to compliment the staff was amazing, very helpful & kind. I was kindly directed to take several test prior to doing the LASIK procedure, shortly after was the surgery & goes really quickly! 10 min & I was out! No pain until I left, I was given a Xanax and two Tylenol p.m. unfortunately these didn't work for me I felt the pain for two hours and a half drive on my way home it was discomfort burning felt like I had sandpaper in my eyes, for my size I think I needed a couple more Xanax for sure at least three. Shortly after I arrive home I was able to sleep, seeing some halos & slight blur but getting better it's been 5 days since & vision is definitely improving. The eye drops you are prescribed definitely burn you will need them 4 times per day, make sure you get the proper artificial tears preservative free I recommend to have them prior to surgery and start taking them three days prior get your eyes used to it. It's totally worth it, I was super blind! Thanks to all mighty god Yaweh & he's son Joshua I'm doing much better! Went there for cataracts and had a complication with both eyes known as dysphotopsia- one more than the other. Had a second cataract surgery a few weeks ago and not super happy as my vision is exactly the same. There are different techniques that are fairly standard (reverse optic capture vs using a round edge lens instead of square) neither was done. I am having to pay over 2k for the follow up surgery that didn't help at all. Will wait and see but have a feeling I will need to go to the Casey Eye at OHSU to get my vision sorted out.... and get a third bill for the same eye... read more

I called 503 413 7023 to make an appointment as per a letter I received from my doctor. They are so busy that they will call me back 8 to 10 days just to make an initial appointment. Do I need to speak Aramaic? Very unfriendly and caustic. I question the quality of care I would be subject to. If they have no time or hate to give diabetic eye exams they need to be out of business. The job gets done but I wouldn't call the experience 5 stars where everything is stellar from start to finish. I'm grateful for a successful procedure and so far so good in being able to see distance now! They did also honor the price that my coworker was quoted when they were having a special. I didn't meet dr T at my initial consult appointment but one of his colleagues, Dr Nohad. Something I wasn't informed about (which is unfortunate when you're about to drop thousands of dollars) and the staff response during my consultation was they'd be happy to schedule time for me to meet with Dr. Teplick on another visit. Ummm... I'm not taking more time off work to trek all the way out to the office, perhaps consider confirming who your consultation appt is with or my bad for making an assumption that one meets the doctor who would be performing the procedure? Also when I was finally ready to schedule an appointment it took 11 days for the person to respond to my email. I 100% support taking time off over the holidays, especially if the office is closed, but perhaps using the basic out of office message function is a tool that is common practice to utilize. On day of, I went in to meet with Dr. Teplick, he first tells me my response to not wanting to pay $500 for an additional procedure recommended by my optometrist and that I was opting to focus more on my behaviors (screen time, diet) is "a very millennial response of me even though I'm not a millennial" and then at one point asks me "how old are you?" Isn't this all in my chart? He did share other things to think about such as using a dehumidifier if I wasn't going to get the procedure. Also, when I didn't initial one of the checkboxes on the consent form he shared it's worded awkwardly and then basically hands me the form to sign and said that "it's not like I'm signing my life away". Communication style could use some work. For those that opt to get this procedure, the morning of they'll offer you two eye drop options presented in this manner - one $50 you can pay for at the office, for convenience that you only take 4x day for 1 week. The other are prescription - two separate drops that you take 4x a day for two weeks and you have to wait 10 mins better each drop. My only regret is not asking why the $50 drop and clearly better option can't be prescribed since I have good prescription coverage. My follow up the next day was with Dr Nohad and at some point I was provided the pamphlet on how to write reviews on yelp to give feedback. I also received one voicemail asking how I was doing and that they wanted to share info about the alumni referral program. Overall, I can see! This place has a strong reputation of performing successful surgeries (as a business should) but they're clearly cranking through patients and I wouldn't say they've mastered the patient experience in terms of quality and authentic communication. read more

I had bad halos for a long time and my eyes were super dry. But was able to obtain 20/15 vision. So it was worth it initially. But the dryness and stuff was horrible imo. I had Lasik done here ~5 months ago and I regret it. I could write a novel about my experience here. First the Lasik surgery itself was significantly more painful and uncomfortable than I was led to expect. This might be just due to my own reaction to the drug they gave us, but it was terrible. Next, my vision has deteriorated since the surgery. I have gone through regular check-in's with my optometrist as recommended, and he has confirmed that my vision is not good and has prescribed me contact lenses so that I can be safe to drive. He has faxed this information over to the Teplick custom vision office, but they have not contacted me. I have tried to contact them by phone twice, but I am sent to the Custom Vision central phonebank. There they have said they have left messages for this office (once "with urgency") but they have yet to call me back. Finally I walked over in person today, and of course they were closed without any notice on their website that they would be closed. Even if everything goes 100% correctly from here, if they call me back and immediately help me reschedule a touch up surgery and that goes perfectly, I will still strongly regret having chosen this office to have my Lasik done. read more

I've been considering Lasix by procedure for many years now. I went to this place for a consultation and they got me in right away at my scheduled appointment and they were extremely thorough and explained every thing that I needed to know and answered any of my concerns. Not only that they gave me a $1000 discount for summer and also a discount for being a first responder which saved a lot of money. It came out to $3800. They also notified me that if there are any changes for follow up that it was covered under warranty. I'd highly recommend them for consultation. My procedure is set for September. Dr. Teplick did my LASIK correction in 2000. At the time (24 years old), I was -7.5 (left eye) and -8 (right eye) with 1.75 diopters of astigmatism. In other words, I was blinder than a bat. When I woke up in the morning, I had to grab the alarm clock with a hand and bring it up right to my face so I could read the GIANT digital numbers. When I had my consultation, they told me I was so blind, I'd likely have to do 2 corrections. Well, after just one correction, I was 20/15! Amazing!!! I wanted to come back here and write a review after all of these years because my eye doctor commented to me recently that he can't even tell by looking at my eyes that I've had LASIK. I got LASIK here a week ago and couldn't be happier with the experience. The staff was friendly, their COVID safety regulations were in place and I got to meet with Dr. Teplick at my pre-op consultation where he walked me through everything I could expect. The surgery itself was quick and painless with no complications, and after just a few days my vision (which was absolutely awful before this, I was functionally blind without glasses) had improved to 20/20. I will say, this place is a little more expensive (i.e. a few hundred dollars) than a few other places I looked at but after reading reviews I decided it was worth the extra money given Dr. Teplick's reputation and experience, and I'm really glad I did. A life-altering procedure like this is not the place to go bargain-hunting and you definitely get what you pay for. I could not be more pleased with the results of my LASIK surgery at Teplick Custom Vision. Dr. Teplick was referred to me by my wife and several friends, but they are also the "official" LASIK provider for the Portland Trailblazers and Portland Timbers sports teams. That's great, but actually meeting and speaking with the doctor is key to deciding on who to trust for something as drastic as eye surgery. I found Dr. Teplick to be vibrant, personable and more-than-obviously a master of his craft. His staff was professional, caring and easy-going too and I walked away from my evaluation with a feeling of confidence and trust. The team thoroughly evaluated my eyes and informed me of the options, costs and risks. They worked hand-in-hand with my Optometrist and, once I decided to pull the trigger, the arrangements were quite easy to make. They also provided prescriptions for post-operative drugs well in advance of the surgery date, as patients need to begin using them within an hour after the procedure. My surgery - Wavefront-Guided LASIK - lasted less than 30 minutes, though my visit took a little over 2 hours total. While the process could not be described as comfortable, it was NOT painful or scary and the team was concerned about my well-being the entire time. Even with the funky, tinted goggles they give you, I was able to see pretty well right after the surgery! Within 24 hours, I was able to see between 20-20 and 20-15, all pain was gone and only a minor "foreign body" sensation remained in one eye. Pretty amazing for what was done to my eyes just a day before. Teplick Custom Vision participates with VSP, my employer's vision plan, so that was a bonus. Just give them a call if you want to ask about other plans. Like most of my friends said, LASIK is one of the best things they ever did and I absolutely agree. I can not recommend this provider. I had lasik surgery there in 2003 and started having problems immediately . My optometrist at Kaiser said I was over corrected. Since that time I struggled with my vision and spent 1000's of dollars on glasses. I am left with permanently dry eyes and difficult to correct vision which requires a very strong prescription. My letters to Dr. Teplick went unanswered. They did not even refund the cost of this very expensive procedure. I wish I would have never set foot in that place. read more

UPDATE: Six months post op: while I love being able to see more clearly when driving, I pretty much hate everything else. The 'new toy' feeling wore off about two months in. Have to use readers for almost everything. Kid you not... If it's closer than 2 feet away, I need readers. Example: On vaca I could swim in the ocean without contacts now but could no longer clearly see the fish in the water or the shells and rocks in the sand. It's a give and take and I feel like I "gave" a lot more than I "took". :-( If you're 40+ and considering the procedure, spend a day or two paying close attention to everything that you do that is 2 feet or less from your eyes. INITIAL POST: I had my LASIK done 4 days ago, so this is an initial review. Gotta say, the staff was professional. Dr. Teplick has his 'schpeel' down pat but not in a way that makes you feel rushed or pressured. Aside from the 'losing your nearsightedness' thing, they did a decent job explaining the procedure and what the after effects would be. You're given the option of following up with them or your regular eye doctor. Dr. Teplick says he has done the majority of the eye professionals who have chosen to have the procedure. They told me I'd feel some pressure. I surely felt that...and some mild pain. It was more uncomfortable than I thought it would be but it was a short procedure. There was pain and discomfort following when the numbing drops wore off. You definitely want to take a nap when you get home as it helps you relax and helps the pain subside more quickly. I took two Advil and the Xanax they gave me, slept for a few hours, and woke up pain free. Something to really consider before having LASIK: If you're 40+ and are nearsighted, be forewarned that you may not like some of the changes. I've been nearsighted my entire life. My distance has gotten bad post 40. So I decided to put a stop to that and have LASIK. Teplick's office did tell me that I would need readers but it's not just about readers. You will LOSE the nearsightedness you're used to. It's not just needing readers for work or to read a recipe. It's so much more - can't see the sliver I got in my hand, eyebrows to pluck, and I basically need a selfie stick to read my cell phone. Seriously...I'm NOT loving this part of it...AT ALL.! UPDATE: Two weeks post-op. Very happy with the results and getting used to the readers. I went to my regular doctor for my 1 week post-op appt and he was blown away. He was VERY impressed with the neatness and "perfect flaps" that Dr. Teplick had created. He also couldn't believe just how great of a change it made in my vision. read more

Only because the rest of the review isn't going to be THAT funny (well, depends on what you find humorous). I should start by saying I had bad vision. I mean, really bad vision. If I held my own hand in front of my face I wouldn't be able to see how many fingers I had up. I could write an entire novel of "funny" situations I've found myself in after losing my contacts/glasses. One such story involves taking the dog for a walk around the neighborhood, losing my contacts, and completely relying on the dog to find our way home. Yeah, it took us awhile since the mutt wanted to stop at every bush along the way. Anyway, when I finally began looking into Lasik, I was (understandably) nervous. I scoured the internet for a good 4 months before learning about Dr. Teplick. After meeting with him for the initial consultation, I knew he was the guy for me. He's performed over 35,000 procedures, and was confident he could help me with my situation - (more detail: I can't wear contacts in the spring/summer due to allergies and had to wear special glasses that gave me migraines). First of all: He is AMAZING. His office staff is INCREDIBLE. I worked in healthcare for a very long time, and can honestly tell you: there are (sadly) some doctors/healthcare workers who get into healthcare for the money, for the prestige, etc... But Dr. T, Dr. Pinske and the rest of the staff are so obviously there for all the right reasons: because they care about people, the quality of their work, and about the overall happiness/health of their patients. Okay, so one funny part of the story: my friends and family have been asking about my experience at Teplick Vision, and I've been trying to persuade them all to have it done themselves, responding, "It's awesome! Such a pleasant experience! It's delightful! " (not exactly how most people describe surgical procedures). The morning after having lasik I woke up to perfect vision (yes, my eyesight is better than 20/20 now). I almost cried. Except I didn't because my eyes are still healing (and I've got plenty of artificial tears to squirt in there for effect) :-). So trust me when I say you are in good hands with Dr. Teplick. Yesterday morning received LASIK surgery. I am the last of my family members to get this procedure, all of whom came to Teplick Custom Vision for LASIK. This morning was my first post-op appointment. I went from blind as a bat to 20/20 vision overnight, and it literally is the best thing to have ever happened to me! The procedure was quick and painless, and I knew what was happening every step of the way. My father even got to see this happen in the viewing room. :) The after care was simple, and well explained. I only had a teensy amount of burning/ itching that lasted a couple hours. Dr. Teplick and his staff are amazing people!! They did everything in their power to make sure I was comfortable through out the process. First - I usually never write reviews. I've bought thousands of things off of Amazon, and have left probably 10 reviews ... so that said, I only leave reviews when it's REALLY REALLY worth it. And Teplick Custom Vision is 10000000% worth it. I've worn glasses since I can remember. Wore Rec-Specs through sports growing up (sexy, eh). Then I moved onto contacts for high school and college sports and still wearing contacts until Monday. Then my life changed. Got the LASIK done at 2PM or so. Came home, took a pain pill, and slept for three hours. And then I woke up a new me. I could see without contacts. No pain. A bit blurry still, yes, as it was new...but it was astonishing. The next morning, everything was 100%. No dry eyes. Drops a few times a day for a month (steroid, antibiotic) and then re-wetting drops as necessary until I am good to go. If you are debating whether or not to do it ... STOP. Just go get it done at Teplick Custom Vision ... it will be the best investment you've ever made for yourself and well-being. read more

First let me say that I had complete confidence in Dr teplick and his staff so there was no fear whatsoever of the surgery. The pre-op instructions we're very clear and precise the procedure was done in a very professional and on-time manner with no pain or discomfort whatsoever. The post-op instructions we're also clear and precise with a check sheet for the different eye drops and times they were administered so I could not fail! And now the best part I can see absolutely perfectly with 20/15 vision! I can see like I did when I was a kid again! I do need reading glasses but I used them before the surgery anyways and as a professional driver I needed my distance vision improved and dr. teplick and his staff Rose to the occasion. Both Teplick and Penski are great to work with. The staff has always been friendly, prompt, and genuine. I had both an initial two-eye LASIK procedure done to correct some 20/600+ near-sighted vision with astigmatism. After a 3-6 month healing process, my left eye stabilized at near 20/20 and my right eye was 20/25 with some astigmatism. Recently had an enhancement done on the right eye, part of their satisfaction and follow-up procedure. It is early, but I'm not sure it has done much. I will update my review as the healing goes on, because it is honestly too early to comment on. This place is not inexpensive, but the prices are reasonable for what it is. I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND you do not bargain shop for laser eye surgery. Essentially, you get exactly what you pay for, so keep that in mind. This place is top-notch in terms of service, follow-through, and follow-up. I had an Epi-Lasek (PRK) procedure here two weeks ago. I only felt a little discomfort in the first week. I was freaking out that I had an eye infection because it left like there was a pebble in my eye for about 2 days and my eye looked awfully bloodshot. I used some ibuprofen and prednisolone acetate and it went away. I haven't had that issue since. The only other issue I've had is that it feels like there's some pressure on the back of my eyes, the only way I can describe it is that it feels like someone has their hand on my head and is pressing their thumb on the back of my eye very lightly. Some ibuprofen takes care of it pretty quickly. The procedure takes no more than 5 minutes and they give you drops and pills so you can knock out for about 2 days. I'm on week 2 and I've definitely noticed a fluctuation in my eye sight. I had a high amount astigmatism in both eyes. I tried to go to King Lasek, but they said I had too much astigmatism. I found Dr. Teplick and his crew that uses the newest technology in the Laser Eye Surgery Realm, the Wavefront Tech, and I'm glad I chose them. He said I was a perfect candidate for regular Lasek, but I with Muay Thai and Jiu-jitsu in the picture, the safer bet was to do Epi-Lasek. Plus I didn't want to deal with a possibility of flap issues even though the chance is so tiny, it's still there. If you do go the Epi-Lasek route, you will want someone taking care of you for the first week, almost even 2 weeks. Grab an audio book or something and just veg it out I went through a little bit of depression and cabin fever thinking I made a huge mistake and ruined myself because my job depends on my sight to program! Just be patient. Your sight will fluctuate as your eyes are healing. I can't wait till I'm done healing! It's definitely a struggle at work and home as 99.5% of my time is spent on a computer, either playing video games, or working as a Software Engineer. My work is lenient enough that this transition is okay. I'm just working on 800x600 resolutions right now lol! I can't wait until my vision settles! WOW WOW WOW what really more do I need to say? I started to ware glasses when I was 8. being very poor I felt and was told I would be strapped to these damn things for the rest of my life. Let me be the first to tell you how WRONG THEY ALL ARE! if you take the time and are lucky enough to be able to do Lasick I highly recommend it, and I must say; if you do not use Dr. Teplick, well you must not be that smart. He and his staff do a great job, making you feel welcome and helping you understand the great thing they are about to do for you. I was in the office @ 8:30 am and out by 10am seeing 20/20. NO PAIN no discomfort, no problems in any way shape or form. Heck I am writing this no more than 3 days after I had mine done.
