You know that Twilight Zone with the guy, and the books, and the apocalypse, and the broken glasses? For years, I lived in fear of being that guy. He was going to be me: the one with the broken glasses, despondent on the steps of the library. The one feeling my way down the hallway as the zombies grabbed at my ankles. The one whose contacts somehow incubate the infection that kills off all life on this otherwise deserted island. But now? T Z E O C L? Yeah, I got this. Two weeks ago, my vision was something in the ballpark of 20 / 800. At my follow-up today, I'm at 20 / 15. I've become a walking billboard, a poster child, an obnoxious radio ad for King LASIK. When what they sell is unaided clear vision, and what you get is exactly that... how can you give less than five stars? Some notes: - The staff and opticians are darlings, incredibly professional, and clear communicators. - You'll go in a handful of times. There's the evaluation, the actual surgery, and then a 1-day, 1-week, and 1-month check-up. They are thorough. - You won't likely meet your surgeon until the day of the appointment, but he'll make you feel at ease, he'll do a great job, and... - The actual procedure is QUICK! So quick. Just when I was getting panicky and thinking ... um, guys? I dunno if this is such a good idea, guys... it was over! - The best piece of advice I received -- and have since been applying liberally to all parts of my life -- was: sleeping is healing. Sleep as much as possible right away. - The prescriptions are expensive -- mine ran me around $130 total. Use insurance if you have it. - The medicated eyedrops leave a gross taste in your mouth and can make your throat dry. You do the anatomy on that one. - Given the opportunity, it's OK to get a Groupon for LASIK. I know, it sounds sketchy. But here's the trick: DO YOUR RESEARCH before you make the purchase. Or do what I did: get one of your friends to do it first! I'm pretty sure King LASIK offered it this year because... - This office has moved fairly recently into its new digs, which appears to be an old bank building. The coins inlaid in the glass entry doors will tip you off if the drive-thru window on the far side doesn't. Once you step in, though, it's all doctor-level hi-tech, accommodating and welcoming and spotless. - After you're all done, you'll be one giant leap ahead of those poor vision-impaired schmos when the apocalypse rears its ugly head. Lemme at 'em, I say. I'm ready for anything now.

    Ridgefield location.

I was very impressed with the office experience, surgical outcome and the eight week follow up to adjust the lenses for the best vision possible. This was in consideration of my extremely poor eyesight. My only disappointment was that K2 Vision was not helpful in breaking down the various costs that Medicare needs for any possible reimbursement. My bill was a total of $15,000.00. I realize that K2 Vision does not take Medicare as part of their business and they explained that to me. Medicare treats RLE with out cataracts as a non reimbursement procedure. I did have cataracts but K2 Vision did not respond to my repeated requests for more detailed information as to individual surgical procedures and the billing codes that Medicare requires. Be aware of my situation and the costs involved. If you have private insurance that covers what Medicare does not you might have more coverage than I did.

I was seen at The Vancouver Eye Care clinic by Dr. Sayge M. Heintzelman for swelling of my left…read moreeye. I explained to her that it has been two weeks since the swelling started and it has not gotten better. She looked at my eye and explained I have some clogged oil glands and recommended that I apply warm compresses and prescribed me an antibiotic due to possible infection. We discussed other options such as "topical drops" or draining the oil glands if my eye got worse. Two days later the swelling in my worsen towards evening time, so the next day I called to make an appointment to see a doctor. This time I was seen by Dr. Shauyene Hsieh. She walked into the exam room and asked me to explain what was going on, so I explained to her what was going on with my eye. She looked at both my eyes and said she is going to order me allergy drops, after I had already explained to her that I have been using allergy drops, warm compresses, and been on antibiotics for the last 2 weeks. I asked her if she can order me "topical antibiotic drops" she proceeded to laugh at me and said "topical" and antibiotic drops drops are the same thing. I felt humiliated, not only was this doctor not listening to a word I was saying but she was now laughing at me. I felt as if my medical needs were not being addressed and I was being rushed out. I explained to her that Dr. Heintzelman said that if my eye got worse that we can look at other options such as Topical drops. She snapped back at me and said it was not included in her notes and continued to ignore what I was saying. At this point my husband could see that I was getting frustrated so he asked her about steroid shot to drain the capped oil glands. She was very short with him and asked him if she should repeat the treatment plan which we just went over. It's expensive to see a Specialist. If I could have avoided seeing one I would have, but since I was in pain I had to come in twice in one week. There should never be a reason why a patient who is paying to see a provider be treated in such manner as I was. A patient should not feel afraid to ask questions because they are afraid the Provider might get upset with you or laugh at you for not using the correct medical terminology. Dr. Shauyene Hsieh was unprofessional, rude, and uncompassionate. She was slamming things down as we were leaving the room. No one should be treated the way I was by Dr Hsieh. It was unethical, and absolutely unacceptable. I walked out of the appointment feeling humiliated and without answers.

Anyway, let's focus on the wonderful Evergreen Eye Care. Dr. Zamberlan and her staff are consummate professionals. I haven't had such a modern, comprehensive exam in a long time. The staff are so welcoming, from making my appointment to my first visit. Unlike a lot of medical offices, the waiting room is not crowded and Dr. Z. takes her time sharing her knowledge with her patients. I truly felt valued and am so happy to have found my "forever" eye care practice. Sandy was the assistant at my visit...so friendly and knowledgeable. Nicole helped me select 2 frames (which are very reasonably priced) plus new reading lenses and offered me their current discounts. They have such a nice selection and I've never chosen glasses so quickly! I cannot think of any suggestions to make other than to ask that you please continue to do what you are doing. Evergreen Eye Care is awesome. *Update: I referred my hub to EEC and asked him about his experience. He said, "I loved it!!" He went on to share how complete his exam was and all the great suggestions Dr. Z. offered. In this era of impersonal, conveyer-belt medicine, Evergreen is the antithesis. We are fans for life!

Everything from the friendliness and professionalism of the…read moreentire staff, to the cleanliness and modern atmosphere, to the amazing technology is the best I've ever experienced. The waiting room features a hot and cold water dispenser, as well as a Keurig coffeemaker with a huge variety of flavors. Chairs are plush and comfortable. I was particularly impressed with the technology in the pre-exam area. There are four machines right in a row. The first is an interactive test for peripheral vision / size of field of view. The second is an automatic test to establish one's baseline eyeglasses prescription, featuring a barn at the end of street on a grassy field to look at as opposed to others I've experienced that have nothing or a blurry circle. The third is an "air puff" glaucoma tester, and the fourth is one that takes photos of one's eyes. The wait to see the eye doctor was very short, and Dr. Hu was extremely professional, polite, and helpful. She was the first eye doctor who was ever able to answer my questions about how to determine which of two lens choices to pick. Here is the conversation: "Which is clearer, 1, or 2"? I said that "1 may look a bit sharper, but the 'O' looks like a square where it looks round on '2'". Her advice to choose the one that is less distorted seems to have made all the difference in the world. The prescription I got was far and away the easiest to adjust to I've ever experienced. They literally required no adjustment period at all. It was instantly perfect. I was also very happy that this exam, despite it having been my first exam in over a decade, didn't require my eyes to be dilated. I'm not sure exactly why this is, but I'm not complaining. If you're a new patient, don't get discouraged by the long wait time before you can get in. The reason that they're booked solid for a few months out is because they are great, and waiting is definitely worth it.
