I love My-Hanh! She has been doing my hair since I was 17, so about 6 years now. Her salon is so beautiful & chill just like her. Last year I went to a stylist near my house to get my balayage touched up..uh, little did I know, she turned me into a zebra. I was so upset, I didn't know what to do. I texted My-Hanh and asked her if she could fix it and she offered to the next day. She corrected the zebra highlights (not balayage like I asked for from the stylist near my house) and blended it so well into a beautiful balayage. Of course, it wasn't as blonde as the bottom of my hair due to my dark roots..please remember that you cannot go from black to your desired blonde in one sitting unless you want your hair to fall out. I've come back 3 times over the span of almost a year to now achieve a beautiful blonde high balayage. My-Hanh blended my roots SEAMLESSLY that I cannot stop staring at my hair in the mirror. I already got tons of compliments today and people asking me who does my hair, I obviously send them My-Hanh's way. The prices are really affordable too and this is coming from a college student. She's definitely not one to charge a ridiculous amount like some other mediocre salons. I love her so much and I can't wait for my roots to grow so I can get my hair done again! read more

The short end of this: the most important haircut I've ever had was wrecked by someone who'd previously done great work--attention span, ignorance, whatever the reason, nothing good came of it and $35 came out. The explanation: I used to be really loyal, to the point of following from Kent (Des Moines) to trying to figure out how to get to the downtown one with shoddy bus lines to going to White Center (all from north of Salmon Bay/Lake Union in Seattle), to Mynt... but this particular cut, while initially it seemed a-ok, was not okay. I told them I needed more time and would even PAY because I was DONATING over a foot of my hair to Children with Hair Loss... I asked if My-Hahn would be able to do it--no problem... well, she wrecked it 3-fold... Hair HAS TO be at least 8" long to be made into a wig... with me saying 12-14", that shouldn't be an issue... and it HAS TO be clean and put in a ponytail or braid... The LENGTH... I should've double-checked when the front 3" wide of hair weren't cut at all... the big cut, instead of following the framed, shorter near the face, cut she'd done herself before, ended up having 4" pieces all over the place-which may indicate pieces getting double cut or... just a real mess up. After all, it's been over a YEAR&it was down to my rear end, the shortest layers only about 3" higher than the longest. The straight ponytail part... when I had an ABUNDANCE of ponytail holders, she did a weird "flip it through one ponytail holder" fold thing... that might be fine IF it was on my head, but have you ever tried to take loose hair and figure out where, when that loose tail with a kinked up fold in the middle came out a bit, the ends are and which is the top and bottom? She didn't ask so much as DO it then show it to me... awkward x10--why not ask HOW to store or just ask the requirements if she didn't know? What I HOPED to pay an extra $11 for was for her to pay attention to the layers she'd cut in and carefully get each section to be the right length or at least long ENOUGH... anyway, it is IMPOSSIBLE to take this thrown together, tossed in a bag hair and get it into something they can use... even if I COULD somehow get all the end pieces that are way too short! How am I supposed to do this if they couldn't, despite being hair experts, do the same with hair on the floor when people cut off masses? I should've gone to a salon that specializes IN hair donations for cancer patients, but I'm unnerved when it comes to someone altering something on my body (part of why I don't have tattoos). The CLEAN part is where it's completely made me break: I thought it was nice to offer a zip-lock bag... but CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN--you'd think clean hair and salon would naturally go together, but a USED FOOD BAG full of sugary greasy crumbs from what I can only assume were cookies or maybe PB+J for her kids... why offer something that literally, even with it perfect, would ruin the whole thing (they really can't be using heat on something coated in layers of cookie crumbs unless they want to try a burnt sugar technique of charring hair and getting it into a wig form)... My other bit of being irked... it was hurried, very hurried, from the initial "can't donate this" (maybe why she did a weird loop thing, to cover up the fact that it was so effed up from what I needed--straight pieces of hair all 8" or longer, plain as that). I never, in previous trips to her, felt like she was just half-assss...esssss...ing it, but my layers aren't the same KIND of layers at all, they aren't smooth like I've always had them, and I'll have to, if I want to be less-than-irritated with this, spend an hour in front of the mirror more than once to clean up what look... grungy. I never quite make a final judgment call beyond "I can probably work with this" AT a salon because a lot of hair cut off means my whole head has to settle into place... but it's been a couple days and it is clear that what was a great head of hair and an opportunity to make a kid really happy with sleek soft hair with a great natural color variation thanks to Mister Sun, not dyes, foils, etc, kind of ruined my MYthological belief in this salon for my hair... despite cool people, maybe having SO much chatter... and when doing my layers constantly looking back at her kids' drawings etc while someone else was waiting... it's a hurried sloppy mess. I was so excited to go back after all this time, but yuck. Having someone who had successfully "feathered" my layers before (told to do it the same way) suddenly chop me up with blunt, Supercuts looking ends like Edward Scissorhands. It's all a massive mess and I'm 3k miles from the only person I know who can fix it when it's this short without making it TOO short for my basic desires to be met. Looks like I may have to get bangs again to at least detract from the wreckage... OR just wear a ponytail every day for 4 months before someone cuts it, hopefully better than this time around. read more

Finding a hair salon is like dating...it's hard to say where the relationship is going after just one visit. I must say, it seems very promising! The location is very cute on the inside, and the people are very sweet. We had just moved to the area and they gave tips on some of the good places to eat. The prices were also great. While our hair was being cut, we got to chat and watch the music videos that were on the tv. I was very happy with my hair, as was my husband. My-Hanh also loves puns as much as I do! I've been going to Mynt Salon for a few years now (since it was in Kent). My-Hanh is the greatest! I'm half Japanese and half Swedish, and most salons have no idea how to work with my hair. My-Hanh knows exactly what to do with my hair texture: I've even gotten compliments on a cut 3 months after the fact, because it grows out so nicely. Salon is not connected to a formal booking site, the main communication is through g-mail where the owner failed to confirm an appointment I attempted to schedule or I should say she never replied when I asked to confirm if will she be the person who will cut my hair. I came in two days before my prom and needed a color correction on my roots only. I brought in these hair extensions i was planning on wearing and told the guy i didnt want him to touch my blonde bc it matched my extensions perfectly. He proceeded to dye my hair and he mustve been new or something bc she was off to the side watching him and guiding him so i was wary about that. Anywho, my hair resulted in a blend of a natural black to a grey-ish color. It didnt match my extensions at all. The gal, my hanh, was like "oh yeah that happens when you dye the roots". Really now? She waited until after the procedure to tell me that that would happen? I know nothing about hair so i didnt know the dark dye would bleed onto my blonde and change the outcome. She said it like it was so obvious but failed to mention that in the beginning. So then she offered to tone it back for extra money which i didnt intend on spending but i was desperate. the results looked close but when i got home i put my hair extensions in and it was so off i wanted to scream. I ended up dying my whole head dark brown along with the extensions. I called and messaged her with my concerns and she didnt offer me my money back and she didnt even offer to help fix it even though it was her mistake. i knew what i wanted and she knew what the risks were and didnt tell me but she did take my money despite my disappointment. Walked out of Mynt with my hair looking like a million bucks. It was my first time at this salon, and I went in thinking I was going to get a standard highlight and cut. My-Hanh suggested doing a balayage highlight instead and it turned out great. At the time I did not know what it was and did not realize I would not get any highlights on my roots. Still pleased with the outcome and now know next time to request some added color at my roots. Great staff and energy. Super good price.
