I have been coming here for years and I have really enjoyed Dr. Nick as my eye doctor. The staff is extraordinarily friendly and helpful and the office is clean and professional. I will keep coming back here even though my insurance changed. I used to have generous insurance that gave me contacts and glasses every year but this year I will need to choose one or the other. I completely understand the upsell, but I really never was bothered by it. I usually will recommend this place to my friends if they have eye care needs. Plus it is very easy to get to via metro. Great location, great people fair prices, and I don't mind the upsell, I just can comfortably insist one what I can and can't afford. read more

I stopped by without an appointment, was seen right away, and in maybe 8 minutes total I was on my way out the door with my glasses perfectly adjusted - no charge. I was excited to see this location while walking to fed ex. BUT I did not like the customer service from the very beginning. I walked in. There were 3 people behind the counter. 2 young African American women and 1 African American man with locks. No one greeted me. I said "hello." The woman on the right asked "do you have an appointment?" I said "no. I asked if they take my employer's insurance." She said "yes." Then, a white woman walked in while I was making an appointment. The young woman on the left said very loudly "Hi welcome to my eye dr." I said "wow. No one greeted me at all when I walked in." The woman I was working with said "yes she did." I asked for my id back and walked out. That was disgusting to me. I had to literally speak to them first after they both just looked at me when I walked in. I'm tired of Black people treating each other this way. Therefore, I'll go somewhere else that will treat me the same they treat a white person. read more

I should have seen the writing on the wall - all these bad yelp reviews and I still went. PLEASE DON'T MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE I DID AND GO HERE This was my pitiful experience: I went in to get some contacts and glasses. Optimistic at first, then sitting down the general manager takes me to the back where we do our general eye pressure tests and stuff, he asks if I'll do the "health check" on my eye for $40. I said yes because I have very poor eyesight and my eye health has always been a concern of mine. He takes a couple pictures of my eyes but never tells me whether they are are healthy or not. The doctor says we'll finish this next time I come in (which I never will, I do get my money back for this exam). Next I get passed to the doctor, I sit in the chair and do the "1 or 2, blah blah blah" for a bit. He determines my prescription is very high. He said he needed to do some research on which contacts would work best for me and he'll call me back once this research is complete. I get a call the following day about picking up contacts (which even with my insurance is insanely expensive, a year supply will cost me about $500). I told them do not order the suggested contacts, just send me my glasses and contact prescription and I'll go elsewhere. They said they haven't finalized my contact prescription so they can't give me that one (even though they had no problem taking my money for this). Then they send me my glasses prescription. This was an okay solution to this problem, at the end of the day I did get my money back. It's a shame every step of the way I had a strange feeling, like some sleazy salesmen was trying to pull a quick one on me. This is not the type of place I'd trust. read more

This place is a racket. The doctor rushes through exams, is dismissive about questions, always tells you you need new glasses (other optometrists are honest about whether you need new glasses or if the prescription is close enough), and then holds your prescription hostage until you buy glasses. We didn't fall for the last part - we took our prescriptions and walked away. The doctor even offered to give me a doctor's note for the DMV if I bought my glasses there and she saw me with them on. That's not how licenses work. You always need to be honest and state on your license whether you need to wear glasses or not. This scares me a bit because there might be poor sighted people driving around DC with doctor's notes to allow them to skip the DMV eye test and possibly put on their licenses that they don't need glasses. read more

I've had an overall good experience each time I've gone to MyEyeDr. I make appointments via the website and generally don't have to wait too long to be seen. The customer service has always been very friendly, and the appointments have been efficient. I do want to call out that I haven't actively seen the staff cleaning the equipment in between use (like the machine where you place your chin for them to do the initial eye check). I may just be overly squeamish, but I have gone to other businesses where they make a point of wiping down the equipment in front of you before use. read more

I arrived and the staff told me that my appointment had been automatically cancelled because I "didn't confirm". I had received a text and email reminder on the days prior, neither of which mentioned confirming the appointment. After I left the building, I noticed I had a voicemail from 2 hours earlier which said that my appointment had been cancelled "due to a glitch", not because I didn't confirm. Unfortunately I missed the voicemail and wasted my time going to the appointment, but it shows that the front desk misled me, making it sound like it was my fault. Not going back. read more

I started going here because they take my insurance, but I think I will find somewhere else next time after two similar experiences. First of all, the doctors and staff are very friendly, skilled, and professional. I also felt very comfortable with their COVID precautions; I had not planned to visit an eye doctor until after things cleared up but my lenses were too scratched up to wait. They were all wearing good masks and sanitized the equipment before I used it. The thing that really turns me off about MyEyeDr is all the upselling. They do a fair job of telling you how much things cost, but you have to decline the add-ons rather than ask for them so you can feel some pressure and a little confusion. They also like to slip their little "protection plan" in at the end, which seems like an OK deal, but again, it's like going to the car rental place and having to decline all the extra things. Thankfully I have decent vision insurance but this could really add up. I might just stick with them for exams in the future and order frames online. read more

I had an eye emergency, was able to get a same day appointment and received excellent care - from the time I walked in the office by the staff and by the optometrist. Both Dr. Dalia and Dr. Julia saw me and were just great and very professional. I can not say enough GREAT things about how well I have been treated, including follow-up visits and their emergency contact information. I HIGHLY recommend the team at this location. I'm not impressed with the inventory of "free" sunglasses but I keep returning, so I guess deep inside, I'm happy with the services provided by MrEyeDr. Looking forward to see you next year! The reason for the two stars is not the eye exam or the friendliness of the sales staff, but the unsavory feeling of the high pressure pitch to buy my prescription eyewear in the same store. This is my second time at this store, so I was more aware of the tactic. During my first visit, the first time I needed eyewear, I knew I bought more than I needed in retrospect. This time I was more prepared because I did research ahead of time to estimate I would pay at other companies and locations for similar prescriptions I was likely to get. Frankly it felt like walking into a used car sales floor. I don't fault the sales people because I felt that it was part of their job to pressure customers. So, be aware when you walk in that there is a high pressure to buy your eyewear at the store. Be aware of your price point and do your research. read more

Angela was so accommodating when I'd had an insurance mix-up, and she found a solution very quickly. All of the staff was very sweet and kept me appraised of the situation. Not only were they delayed in getting my glasses returned to me, they ruined the frame in the process and then had the audacity to blame it on me. When I initially gave them my glasses to update the lenses, they had a slightly snug fit. Over a month later, I get them back significantly more loose than before. I called each week for three weeks to place a contacts order and they said they were working on it and would call me back (which they never did). I called again and they said the order was in and would be ready in a week (never got a call ... again). So called a third time and finally they placed an order for me saying that it is going to take a week to get contacts. UNACCEPTABLE. TBD if I will ever get my contacts order.... read more

What a joke. Upon checking in, I stated that I was interested in an eye exam and glasses but would not be purchasing contacts. They asked if I wanted the contact exam anyway, since it was covered by insurance. After confirming twice that I would not be responsible for the cost of the contact fitting, I agreed to the exam (because why not? I can use the prescription in six months when my supply runs out, right? Wrong.). After my exam, the optician stated my total, which included an extra $96 for a contact lens exam! The only way to avoid this charge? Purchase a three month supply of lenses, of course. Two stars because the doctor himself was an absolute delight. Negative three because I typically trust a medical office to be able to comprehend my insurance policy and don't appreciate being misled or tricked into doubling my budget for a routine eye exam. read more

I've been coming here for a year. I had developed an infection in my eye and came to Dr. Neagle who wrote me a prescription for antibiotics. The reason for my review is that I was on Christmas vacation and out of town when the infection returned. I called My Eye Dr. and talked to Victoria who remembered me from my visit. She went out of her way to call Dr. Neagle who was off. He called in a prescription for me from home and in a few hours I had the prescription I needed, which was critical to me because I needed to get back to work the second I returned from this trip. The people who work there truly care about their customers and are warm and kind and thoughtful. I highly recommend them and I feel fortunate I found them. read more

Horrible place! I will have to change my former 5 star review to 1 star. After receiving only 3/4 contact boxes, I called in October 2022 to request for the last box. I even paid extra for the service of replacements in the event I ran out of contacts. I was told by Corey that he would order a box and would receive a text once delivered to the store. After 2 weeks of nothing, I called again and was placed on hold for 20 minutes.. I called again only to be informed my box was never ordered. So again, I was told by Corey the order was placed and I would get a text. After 2 weeks, NOTHING. By this time it was December and very frustrating- I called again only for Corey to try and deny ordering the box for me when I called repeatedly for the last month and was even told by him he place an order. He told me he would order me 4 new boxes and I told him that was not necessary, I would just like the one box that I did not receive- on top of that I paid extra for the service of extra contacts in the event I did not have any for the reminder of the period. I request a confirmation number to which he stated he would not have one until he ordered so I requested a call back with the confirmation number, I asked for a timeframe- he stated an hour. Before we ended the call, i verified with him I would receive a call within one hour with the confirmation number. NEVER RECEIVED A CALL AND NEVER RECEIVED THE CONTACTS. It is now January. I will never go back, I would not recommend this service, Corey and the staff should feel shameful the way he LIED, and his lack of customer service. HORRIBLE HORRIBLE PLACE. I have had my annual contacts fitting for the past two years at this location, and the staff at My Eye Dr over charged me both times. It wasn't until I called my insurance company, confirmed my benefits, and then called My Eye Dr that they admitted to charging me incorrectly. I was able to get a refund last year, and I am still awaiting my refund from this incident. Similar to previous reviews, I'd recommend that you double check you bill prior to paying. I'm not sure if I'll be returning considering how much of a hassle it has been to get a refund both times I've been to this location. read more

I just switched this year and had my yearly exam with Dr. Guo, who is great. I got an infection 2 weeks later (or so :/ ) and came back and saw Dr. Neagle who prescribed some drops which helped for a few days. When I returned he re-examined and saw that my issues had changed and said I needed to be referred to an opthalmologist and called an office to refer me and make sure I was seen that day which was such a lifesaver for me and so nice of him to do. Additionally, the staff was great about helping me get in to see someone and getting me care, especially during covid. The office is also super clean and following safety precautions - I felt more than comfortable each time. read more

I really really really hate this store, specifically the one in Chinatown DC. So why do I go there, because its the only store closest to my work. But now, it doesnt even matter anymore, I will find a new eye store. These folks will tell you that they will let you know when your contacts or glasses are ready for pick up. Oh dear, its like waiting for the morning after call which never comes after you have been ghosted. Till you call and have to ask, "are we ok"...only for them to tell you, oh yes, we are good, just come pick up your earring that you left." That is this store. And when you call them, they feel nothing about it. They are very insistent when they want you to come for an annual check up, but once you spend the money....you are the one to make the morning after call! Tsk tsk! read more

For my first exam here, I was scheduled to come at 8AM. Because I'm a new patient here, I came 15mins early to my appointment. However when I arrived (in the pouring rain), the doors were locked and the lights were off. The receptionist looked at me from the front counter and kept working. I stood there and she finally came to the door mouthing "We are closed" and I mentioned I had an appointment. She pointed to their hours on the door. They didn't open until 8AM. If this was the case, WHY was I scheduled at this time and not a little later. The girl was rude. She walked away and I waited in the rain until 8AM. Never returning to this location. After 2 terrible experiences at MyEyeDr at 1776 I St NW, I requested to visit this Gallery Place location for a follow-up. In stark contrast to the I Street location, the front desk staff here were patient and professional, despite I Street failing to communicate my patient information to them; Rachel at the front desk especially served as an excellent liaison between me and the doctor. Dr. Guo was also professional and patient, taking time on my exam and answering my many questions. I was not rushed out the way I was repeatedly at the I Street location. If you're in Washington DC, I would definitely recommend this location over the I Street location any day. (Simply a customer service review, I did not get my exam at this location) I am a patient at the Merrifield location, but while at work, my contact lens tore. In a panic, I checked online to see if there were nearby locations, and this one popped up down the street. Rachel was SO HELPFUL! She gave me a week of samples, I was able to pick up immediately, and when I did, there was no wait at all! SO happy I did not have to go through my day with a torn lens or no lens at all. Zero stars. While the staff was friendly and fun. The frame selection was good but the policies of the parent company are not committed to providing proper vision correction. After numerous visits where I indicated improper focus and the staff insisting that I "just need to get used to them" while giving me the bum's rush out the door I got a 4th exam at another eye doctor. The 4th prescription was nothing like those from myeyedr proving that the exam (and two pair of glasses) obtained at myeyedr was a waste of time and money. And lots of it. During my visit consultant assured me that my insurance covering the cost , but after left me a voicemail that it has been mistake and I actually have to come again and pay even more than I did last time. No apologies that I had to come agin, didn't try to find me a good price, wasn't sorry that there was no free trial lenses for me.
