I need to give a huge shout out to Washington Eye Doctors. I was visiting Washington DC for a conference. While getting ready March 2 I realized that I failed to pack my contacts (I wear daily lenses) which made me immediately panic as I was scheduled to be away from home for a week. I have never forgotten something so important. I looked for an eye doctor in close proximity to my hotel and found Washington Eye Doctors. I spoke to Jim, and he immediately called me as I was on the verge of tears. He allowed me to come to the office with my prescription and gave me a weeks worth of samples. I honestly do not know what I would've done without his kindness, professionalism, and human compassion. I am recommending this practice to all of my friends in the area and have asked my doctor to recommend this practice anyone moving to the area. read more

I called yesterday and asked to speak with the office manager to get this to stop. I left a message for the office manager too, but they haven't had the courtesy to respond. Wasted an entire morning due to Washington Eye Doctors' mistakes. I made an appointment to get lenses put in my frames. Then the optician was late and my appointment was delayed by an hour. Then I finally was able to get in for the appointment and they don't have the lenses and it'll be another 10 days to get them, during which time I'm stuck with an old prescription that no longer works well. Dr. Rosenblatt is great. But the opticians, I don't know...two years ago, the one fitting my glasses was so rude that I just left and wore my old glasses for a year. The matter was straightened out the next year after Dr. R intervened. This year after the two weeks had passed and I hadn't heard about my glasses, I called and was told that needed a 'final inspection'. Then I heard nothing more. I called today and was told the same thing. I had to demand a time to come in and pick up my glasses, so we'll see what happens. The glasses were ready and were fine. I raised the rating to five stars because Dr. Rosenblatt deserves it. read more

Both my wife and I have been going to Dr. Rosenblatt for more than 7 years. My supervisor recommended him. He is the type of doctor who can be your best friend and is highly knowledgeable in his field. The office staff are friendly and they will make your time there comfortable. Yes the frames there are a bit pricey but you have to take in account of the thorough services their provide, the advanced eye exam technology systems in their office and the prime real estate. I was a patient of Klessman and Rosenblatt for years, but left due to poor billing practices. To be clear, I liked Dr. Klessman and always found him professional, and based on one appointment with Dr. Rosenblatt had a similar impression of him. Unfortunately, their office recently advised me that I owed $660 for a duplicate contact lens order that had been placed over a year ago. Despite my inquiries, I never received a satisfactory answer on how a duplicate lens order could even be placed, or why it had taken them over a year to bill me for this supposed second order. I had no recall of whether I had placed (much less, received) the second order or not. As I told them, this placed me in the unfair position of paying for products that I couldn't confirm having received. I don't question their integrity, but do question their professionalism. In short, I don't appreciate the way this was handled. There are plenty of optometry practices in DC that offer both good doctors *and* professional support staff. I won't be returning. read more

Eyes freak me out. Really. They truly gross me out. I used to get lightheaded when a girlfriend would take her contacts out and have to jam her finger in her eyes, that's how squeamish I can get. Plus, when I was little, my dad regaled me with a story about how when he was a kid, he was playing with his dog and the playful little mutt jammed his paw into dad's eye... and how the doctor had to give him a shot directly into his eyeball. Gaaaah! So naturally I was a bit nervous when I found out I should probably go see the optometrist. I had what felt like an eyelash stuck in my eye for several weeks, and finally realized that it probably wasn't coming out on its own. So I faced two choices: 1. Start wearing an eyepatch. Unfortunately, I do not possess the level of badassery (biker, megalomaniac, scheming German count, Nick Fury, Big Boss) said eyepatch requires. 2. See the damn doctor. I got a referral for Dr. Rosenblatt's office from one of my coworkers who recently had a contact lens slip in between her eyelid and thus spoke highly of his practice (she saw another doctor affiliated with Dr. Rosenblatt). What I really liked was that they were able to see me that very day, even though I was a new client (aka the patient equivalent of steerage class or purple drank). Dr. Rosenblatt's practice is very organized. They steered me toward their website where I was able to fill out the required forms ahead of time, and I was able to be seen promptly at my appointment time. I really like that. Dr. Rosenblatt is very affable and we talked shop for a few minutes before the exam which really calmed me down. I candidly explained my fears. He assured me it was all a walk in the park, and then got down to work. A routine glance at my eyes didn't yield much, so he had to... Warning! Warning! Grossness alert! Eww eww eww! Lalalalalala I AM NOT LISTENING LALALA MARY HAD A LITTLE LAMB, LITTLE LAMB, LITTLE LAMB!!!! flip open my eyelids where, lo and behold, I had a little piece of something or other stuck there. So he took some sort of stick dealie and scraped the offending material off of my eyelid. All in all, I was maybe there half an hour, tops. He was quite clear that if it didn't feel like I was getting any better, to call him ASAP and they'd take another look. The verdict: Eyes still gross me out. However, it's always nice to know that if something does happen, I know exactly who I can go to and make me better. I recommend Dr. Rosenblatt wholeheartedly! read more

[Look over your invoice very carefully....and if you have insurance, call and make sure you weren't double billed....See 6th paragraph below.... ] I HAD been a patient of Dr. Klessman's for years. Not Anymore!! He put me in a pair of contacts a couple of years ago and I didn't feel like the right one was fitted correctly inasmuch as it was just slightly blurry. I called for a follow-up appointment. When I went in, he asked me, "what are you here for?" I told him I didn't think the right lens was sitting correctly... He had me put my chin on the machine and said: "They are sitting correctly." I dealt with a slightly blurry contact for a year. The next year when I went back, I told him the same thing. He told me, "Ohhh You just get makeup on it." This year when I went in I told him the same thing and when I covered my left eye all the letters were doubled. I was Not going to deal with another year of a slightly blurry right contact. He said he was going to change the angle of the right lens....and I assume he just expected me to order them right then and there. - I asked if I could first have a trial pair. He put his hand on his head and looked at his notes and said he would have to order a pair. When they came in he hadn't adjusted the angle on the right lens as he was supposed to, but had changed the power in both lenses instead.......?? so the right lens was Still sitting wrong. When I went back in for the follow-up he wanted to charge me Another $50, for a fitting, even though he had just charged me for the evaluation/fit the week before..... I told him that was unfair and that I may just have to go elsewhere.... wherein he said he would Not charge me the extra $50. I went through three more trial pair of lenses. He was supposed to be ordering the third pair, and gave me a pair of B&L to try "in the meantime". After 6-days, I couldn't take them anymore... - They were extremely uncomfortable. I called his office only to find out he had not ordered the third trial pair..... I was told they would be ordered that day. When they finally came in, he had inadvertently changed the left lens, instead of the right. So not only was the right sitting wrong and blurry, but the left was then messed up and blurry. At that time, I decided to go to a new doctor and start over. Also.... watch your bills. I called the insurance company... VSP to see if there was any way I could go somewhere new and what they would do for me and the representative and I realized, at that moment, that he not only charged ME for the contact lens fitting, but he also charged VSP for the contact lens fitting. The representative and I went over my receipt and he billed "Me" and "VSP" for the Same Code!! And he conveniently left the contact lens fitting fee that he charged ME off of VSP's explanation of benefits which states what is charged and what they are responsible for and what I was responsible for. So VSP had No Idea he charged Me for the contact lens fitting. All they saw was that I paid my $20 Co-Pay for the actual exam. VSP is sending me a reimbursement check for the contact lens fitting that he charged me for. I went to a new doctor yesterday and he did all the tests, measured my eyes and put me in a pair of trials.....which are Phenomenal!! I have to say that I have not seen this clear, or this comfortably in Years! Relying upon the excellent treatment I received from Dr. Rosenblatt years ago, I recommended this practice to my husband. At his request, Dr. Klessman completed the vision certification that was required to renew his Maryland driver's license by mail. Dr. Klessman incorrectly checked "yes" to the question "Did the visual examination reveal any optical or medical reason that could preclude granting a license?", so my husband was unable to renew by mail and had to waste a morning at the MVA, taking the eye exam. (Which he passed.) Strike one. in May of this year, I went for a routine exam with Dr. Rosenblatt. I was kept waiting approximately 1/2 hour after my appointment time. Then, just before I was finally called in for my exam, the receptionist remembered that I would need to fill out registration/health forms. Perhaps if she had not been so busy gossiping with the other desk staff (in front of patients? Really?), she would have remembered to give me the forms when I checked in, and I could have carefully completed them during my lengthy wait. Strike two. Dr. Rosenblatt is as courteous and professional as ever. I was understandably concerned when his exam identified a potential health problem that is serious in nature. He asked that I provide my medical records from the ophthalmologist I had been seeing before returning to his office. I immediately did so, mailing the records with a note asking Dr. Rosenblatt to contact me when he had reviewed the records. He never responded to my note and records. Strike three. Finally, after two months of radio silence, I called in August, only to be told that Dr. Rosenblatt was on vacation and would call me when he returned. He never responded to my phone call. (Four?! Who gets four strikes?!) Only because I liked him so much, I gave Dr. Rosenblatt one more chance. I sent a message through the practice's "contact us" link on their web site. I can't say I was surprised that, once again, I received no response. But I've gotten plenty of emails from the practice touting their new office, and encouraging me to review them on Yelp. Guess they're proud of getting five strikes! So, Drs. Klessman & Rosenblatt, per your request - my review. Four months after identifying a potentially serious eye problem, you have failed to respond to my repeated contacts.. You don't answer your mail, your phone messages, or your email. I would like to report the negative experience I had today at Washington Eye Doctors on 17th Street NW DC. It was my first visit with Washington Eye Doctors. I had made the appointment over the phone and had gone over my insurance with the representative. I also sent in a copy of my insurance before the scheduled appointment. I was under the impression that my insurance would be accepted. When I arrived to the appointment, my insurance was scanned in and I went through my eye exam. As I went to check out I was told that my bill was $256.00. I asked if my insurance had been applied to the bill and was told that I was not covered. I would never have completed the exam if I had known that my insurance would not work. There was ample time to tell me about my lack of coverage before the appointment. I was quite disappointed in this service. read more

A note of caution to anyone thinking of going here. While the doctors seem good, the office is set up as a contact lenses scam. After the exam, they get you to buy contacts from them. When you get home and go online and find out that you can get the lenses much, much cheaper almost anywhere else, they refuse to give you your prescription. They will not allow you to buy your lenses elsewhere, and their prices are highly inflated. Then you have no choice but to pay their inflated prices. So, learn from my lesson and find an honest eye doctor. read more

I have a very strong prescription, so it's often hard for me to find a practice that understands my needs - I've tried custom lenses here, even tried hybrid contact lenses for the first time! Staff are friendly and professional. Sean is the best at helping you find the perfect pair of glasses and he's very knowledgeable and takes his time explaining all the little details. Man, I've tried to be patient with my glasses order but it's just too much to bear. I preface this with the fact that I ordered the new enchroma glasses for color blindness but much of the problem has been with WED. They fitted and ordered the wrong glasses - for outdoor use only - so they had to be returned and reordered. I've had to call multiple times to get a status update and those had gone unanswered until today. And I just found out they wouldn't be here for another three weeks! It's been two months already. At this point I should have just gone with the kaiser permanente regular glass center. Infuriating. read more

Unfortunately, Since Dr. Klessman's retirement a couple of years ago, this practice has gone so far downhill that I will never return. I had an annual eye exam last June. Dr. Rosenblat seemed to cut corners in order to save money during my exam, such as electing to not use certain solutions to dilate my eyes. I went along with it but was/am skeptical that I did not receive a proper exam. Then I went to pay for my checkup and the optical technician erroneously calculated my bill. He charged me the rate at which Washington Eye Doctors actually bills my insurance, NOT the co-insurance (re: what I should pay) amount billed. It just so happens that the amount billed to my insurance company was about $50 less than the amount I should have paid out of pocket. I had no idea about this at the time and paid what I thought I owed and left. However, the technician did not discover his mistake until nearly a week later when he called me and told me to pony up the money, even though he admitted that the billing error was HIS mistake. I told him nicely that since the billing error was his mistake entirely, I should not have to pay more in order to cover up his error. He said the billing coordinator would look into it and call me to discuss their decision. Um, excuse me? Anyone who is well versed in customer service would have waived the extra amount billed because it was the office's mistake, not the customer's. The billing coordinator said that I was still responsible for the amount and not one person ever bothered to apologize to me for mistreating me and the inconvenience and stress this caused. The billing coordinator did promise me that they would forward my prescriptions and medical records when I found a new eye doctor and requested that they do so. Flash forward to today, I have an appointment with a new eye doctor and I emailed the office asking for my prescription. I requested that they email it to me. I promptly received a response back that since I have an outstanding balance (which I do not) on my account, that they would not send me my prescription even though it costs them nothing and the prescription and medical records are MY property, not theirs. The entire office is full of greedy, deceitful people and I will never let them reach into my wallet again. Find another eye doctor who is honest and isn't in it just to make money. This office was amazing about getting me in for an evaluation for contacts. Considering the restrictions for office safety during the pandemic they were so cautious and through. I absolutely needed to switch from my glasses to contacts since I work in health care and the need for my N95 mask, face shield PPE etc continuously fogged up my glasses. I really like Dr. Rosenblatt and I generally think getting my yearly eye appointment done here is smooth. However, when I recently went in, I decided to purchase new eye glasses in addition to my usual yearly set of contact lenses. Because this is such an expensive purchase and there are plenty of places that sell very cheap modern frames these days, I explicitly asked for each part of my bill to be itemized. If the frames were too much, I'd kindly turn them down and look elsewhere. The frames I choose came out to be an out of pocket cost around $200 for me. I figured the extra $100 over a set of Warby Parker frames was worth it -- I like the practice, it was convenient and I liked the frames I picked out. However, once I picked up my frames, it turns out they screwed up the bill and my frames were another $90. At first, they tried to tell me it was from my exam but later confessed it was from the frames. An extra $100 over Warby Parker is a lot but an extra $200 would have definitely affected by decision making. I feel jipped and that I got scammed into buying frames -- buying frames through an eye doctor's office is such an outdated business practice and I feel stupid that I fell for this. read more

Not a fan. The staff was really friendly, and it was easy to get an appointment, but the bill was ridiculous. $900 for contacts, glasses, and exam. When I called back to cancel my contacts & glasses because I could find them waaaay cheaper online, the staff told me they could discount my purchase by 20%, which was a kind gesture, but seriously. $900?!? read more

I found Dr. Rosenblatt on this site, and I found that the previous reviews did not let me down. I was impressed with the overall experience, which included the following: 1. Online. All forms, new and returning patient, are online. Also, they send you an email before your appointment and you can select either A. Yes, I will be there; or B. No, I need to reschedule. 2. Cleanliness. The office is clean and before pressing your face against any machine, they wipe the surface off with disinfecting wipes. (I can't stand offices that don't seem to care about appearances/ cleanliness.) 3. No more dilating. They have a machine that takes images of your eye without dilating. This is optional, and, yes, it does cost extra. If you don't want to pay the extra, then they will dilate your eyes. 4. Location. It is near a couple metro stops including Farragut West and North. 5. Staff. I was pleasantly surprised. I have been to so many Dr.s offices where the Dr.s are great, but getting through the staff is a nightmare. Not so with this staff. They are polite, think ahead, and seem to know what they are doing. Dr. Rosenblatt has a dry humor, and doesn't beat around the bush. He is knowledgeable and explains what he is going to do before doing it. Be forewarned, this is not a discount optometrist. However, this is a good example of you getting what you paid for. I found it difficult to find an opening for a normal eye exam only because they were so busy - which is a good sign - but the staff worked with me. I am sure it is different for emergencies. They are not open during the weekends. read more

Overall grade: C Positives - This place was convenience to my work. - Dr. Friedman seemed nice - enough. - Whatever receptionist I dealt with on the one was very pleasant and helpful - Although they didn't carry the frames I wanted, they were able to order them. Negatives - Waiting time and appt time were much longer than quoted. - I'm a first time glasses wearer, and they did not give me enough explanation. - The doctor asked if i wanted a near variable or a single prescription - i asked what she recommended but said i didn't want to break the bank for reading glasses - she wrote the prescription for a near variable, which turned out to cost hundreds more. - The sales atmosphere was high pressure. - When we got to purchase, the gentleman misquoted the price, so when I came in for pick up, they told me I had a balance - I prob would've purchased them anyway, but that put me in an awkward position - a little late to change my mind. - They got my prescription wrong on the first try - reading glasses and I could not read my license. - The guy working on this lost his temper and yelled at me "would you let me finish?!" - They called me at the wrong number despite explicit instructions multiple times - almost missed window to get frames. Had to keep calling them to follow up. - They told me able sunglasses opportunity after the fact too late - In the end, my expensive prescription glasses don't work as well as my dime store cheaters - makes me dizzy read more

The office was easy to get an appointment and staff was very friendly. The doctor spent a lot of time with me and was attentive. But, I left feeling like they had tried to sell me a used car. The doctor really pressured me into buying the contacts directly from the office, even going so far as go to the 1 800 contacts website to show me the cost similarities. Additionally, the doctor talked about LASIK with me even though I had no interest and didn't indicate that I wanted to discuss it on my initial paperwork. I thought that I would buy glasses from them but I was shown $450 to $500 frames. When I noted that these were quite expensive I was shown one pair that was $250. It felt uncomfortable to have to explain I wasn't able to spend that kind of money. The office also pressured me to get a lens coating that was expensive and not covered by my insurance. I requested paper copies of both my prescriptions and left in a hurry and won't return. TIP: I suggest reading the filtered reviews. Many people have had similar experiences to mine. read more

I agree with some of the other postings on the charges. Always feel like I'm being sold something I don't want. After the eye exam and $15 co-pay they called my office to let me know they did a contact lens exam ($85 upcharge) that isn't covereg by insurance. If I remember correctly, that 'exam' took about 1 min. It's just a way to get $100 out of each patient instead of $15. They need to explain during the exam before doing it. I found this practice on-line, had no problem getting an appointment. I like that they have the required new patient forms on-line. Dr. Klessman is really nice, very direct, and listened to me. Bottom line: The high prices aren't worth the mediocre customer service. The first visit was ok, but I ended paying more than I ever have for an eye exam. It would have been ok if the staff had clearly communicated the price of the exam up front. They didn't. The doctor who performed my eye exam must have said the words "pay" and "order" a hundred times... it was clear what her priorities were. The best part of my experience was the woman who helped me practice inserting and removing contact lenses. She was patient and polite. The follow up visit after my trial period was absolutely terrible. I was the first appointment of the day and they were running 20+ minutes late. No one communicated with me while I sat in the waiting room. I finally approached the desk to reschedule when they finally went to get the doctor, who AGAIN talked about "payment" before even asking how the contacts fit. It's a little shameless and should be embarrassing to whomever owns this place. The price for the contacts is ridiculous. They'll sell you on the $90/box contacts without talking through other options. It's gross and anything but patient-centered. Finally, I asked to get my eyeglasses Rx emailed to me, and of course that didn't happen. I had to call back two more times before finally getting it. If you need something conveniently located and don't mind being treated like a dollar sign, this place is fine. If you want a quality care experience, I would not recommend this practice. read more

The perks of this place are its convenient location, friendly doctor, and kind staff (some of them). The ladies they have manning the phones are downright rude. The main reason I will never go back here again is that a.) The contacts and glasses are SO overpriced and the sales people are slimy b.) they screwed up my billing. Example: I went there and was told by the friendly doctor that they have a contact lens that is much better than the one I wear. He strongly recommended them and argued he has the best price around, so I said "Sure, why not". I wore them and honestly they were a bit uncomfortable, and I was also shocked to see at checkout that they were over $400 for a years' supply. I told them a week later that I would like a prescription for my old contacts, and they gave me a hard time with all of their snake-like salesmanship, but I persevered and then got my old prescription. They DID NOT update it to my new vision requirement though, so my contacts are still blurry to this day (which gets on my last nerve, I feel like I paid money for no reason). The contacts and glasses I got are from Costco and like 75% cheaper than whatever I would have paid at Rosenblatt. Later when I looked up the contacts that this place had recommended to me, it turned out they are a limited edition-type contact lens that is only sold by certain optometrists, so of course they would have the best price, since they are withholding the supply from customers. I would not go to this place again just because of this annoying sales technique. Finally, months later I get a bill in the mail for a trivial amount of money that they screwed up in billing my insurance. I feel this is their fault for sucking a** and I shouldn't have to pay for this because I did not even get a proper prescription. So yeah, next time I need an eye exam it is Costco for me, they are honest there and not interested in sucking as much money out of you as possible. read more
