I've been using For Eyes for 7 years now and NEVER had a problem until I went to the Washington DC G Street location. Just horrific. At first I was shocked and frustrated but now I just feel sad that any customer, esp. elderly & sick, should have to go through this. I am writing this detailed review, so that the doctor, the managers, the corporate HQ can see what is going on.
I had an initial exam with Dr. Lee & he seemed great but then my glasses were not accurate. I went back, had another exam & STILL glasses were not accurate. Each time I have to go back it's a 4 hour commute (bus plus metro) plus time in office. I have to take time off from a new job, which my employer doesn't like, plus I lose about $300 each day I take off for yet another exam & to pick up yet another pair of glasses. On top of that I am in my 50s with breast cancer so I should avoid metros & public spaces. All toll I've lost about $1000 plus time off work. I paid $70 for the eye exam, $200 for the glasses, then lost $700 taking time off work.
The second time I went to pick up the glasses there was an older manager there who seemed professional. As soon as I tried the second pair I said they felt fuzzy again. She said to try them out for a few days & then they will refund if that's what I want. Once home I realized they were just not working out. So I called & they gave me appointment for 3 weeks later. I pleaded to get something sooner b/c I only had 30 days to get them remade & I didn't want to cut it too close to the deadline. They said there was no way. 3 days before my THIRD eye recheck my uncle passed away & I had to attend funeral on day of eye exam. I called again to see if they could squeeze me in for 5 minutes before the funeral day, I didn't even need an exam anymore. I just wanted Dr. Lee to authorize an older prescription which had expired b/c at this point I was tired. They said they couldn't squeeze me in even for a 5-minute prescription rewrite until mid-March, well beyond my 30 day deadline. But that they could issue me a refund. I skipped my uncle's funeral and decided to go for the eye exam again.
I got there promptly but half hour later when the doctor still hadn't arrived I asked the receptionist when she knew when the doctor would be in. She was dismissive and smirking. It prompted me to ask for a refund. I realized these people could care less, not sure when the doctor would arrive and if I would even get a decent pair of glasses. As she and I were talking about refund another employee jumped in & said I could NOT get refund. I told him I had been told numerous times I could. Now he said I needed to go to Greenbelt, MD to get a refund. I live in Virginia. When I asked for manager's name in MD they wouldn't give it to me. When I asked for name of DC manager & when she would be in they wouldn't give it to me. When I asked for the address of another DC For Eyes they wouldn't give it to me.
I had to pester them again and again to get basic information. It seemed they were enjoying my misery & punishing me for asking for a refund. The guy was helping another customer & first I didn't even bother him. He jumped in himself & then when I asked him the name of the MD manager he said was helping another customer and turned away. This AFTER carrying a 5 minute conversation w/ me on his own accord. Somehow me asking for the name of the MD manager was too much for him. It was beyond weird & creepy. I asked for his name, he wouldn't give it to me, I asked for his business card, he wouldn't give it to me and gave me a generic For Eyes card. Then he said I'd asked for glasses to be remade too many times & they won't do it next time even though it was their fault.
I called Greenbelt location & woman who answered said she didn't know anything either. At this point, I was wondering whether anyone knew anything & whether they would help me in any way. I had completely lost it. Even when the doctor walked in I could barely say hello b/c I just couldn't believe what was happening. Finally I noticed a new employee & begged him to help me. THANK GOD for this decent professional person. He started helping me in an extremely professional way. But until him it was an absolute, psychotic nightmare.
My advice for serious professionals is go to quieter For Eyes locations in VA where doctors/staff don't feel rushed & will take out time to understand your needs. My eye exams at quieter VA locations were more thorough. Staff was also MUCH more professional. I only had to go back ONCE in all the 6 years at the other locations. At this location, after screwing up your glasses repeatedly, they will say no refund, no remake & you will have lost time & $ in glasses you can't use. AVOID this location at all costs esp. on weekends when it's just run by a bunch of silly kids who dismiss your concerns. Scary place. Just not professional. read more
