Words can't explain how thankful I am for Dr Greer since having met him a couple months ago. I have never had any eye problems, 20-20 visions, generally pretty lucky when it comes to vision health. However, earlier this ear I ended up getting Uveitis and my Urgent Care referred me to Dr. Greer. He fit me in last minute on a Saturday, thoroughly explained what was going on with my eye and how we would fix it. He checked in on me the next day and several days after to make sure I was feeling better. Despite being an emergency appointment and requiring medicine, his costs were incredibly reasonable. Then once again, last Friday night I was accidentally stabbed in the eye with a straw and scratched my cornea up pretty bad. My roommate called Dr. Greer at 7:30 in the morning, he answered, then because we couldn't get to his office due to the women's march he MADE A HOUSE CALL! Literally this man is a god-sent. I was such a mess and so uncomfortable and in 15 minutes he fixed my life. Again, thorough follow up and very reasonable costs. 10 stars for this man. read more

If you need an emergency eye exam (like due to a sudden change in vision), this is as good as it gets. I called Dr. Greer at 12:30 PM and he personally answered. By 2 PM I was in his office, where he dilated my eyes and performed a full exam including retina, vitreous, and peripheral vision. In about 45 minutes, I knew I was in good shape and I went about the rest of my day. His diagnosis proved correct the next day when my symptom went away. read more

I called 23 eye doctors and no one could see me the same day except Dr. Greer. Dr. Greer saw me on an emergent basis and exceeded my expectations. He is very professional and knowledgeable and was very compassionate. He put me at ease, found the source of the problem, and greatly minimized my pain. With his treatment regimen I was back to normal in 3 days. He even texted me to check on me and that meant the a lot to me. If I ever have another eye problem he will be the doctor that I see! This was my first visit to Dr. Greer's office, and I am highly impressed. He is one of the most thorough and professional doctors i have met in DC. I had come in due to pink-eye reinfection. Seriously, who gets pink-eye at 29? I thought pink eye is for kids! But I digress. Dr. Greer did a thorough examination, including a side vision test, pupil dilation, a battery of visual exams, and a re-examination of my current eye glass prescription. He also asked me detailed and thoughtful questions not only about my current condition but also any past history of illness. He even found that I have mild astigmatism, something that many other doctors in the past have failed to figure out. His office is in a building right across from the Metro Center. One thing to note is that he will not directly take your insurance information. He prefers that the patient pay their bill (he accepts cash, check, and credit cards) at the time of service, and the individual is responsible for contacting their insurance company for a reimbursement. Nevertheless, I thought that his fees were reasonable and fair. read more

Was visiting from out of town and had an eye issue. Urgent care gave me Dr. Greer's phone number, which I thought there would be no way I was going to get an eye doctor on the phone on a Saturday. He was in the office for emergency services that day and saw me right away. Took care of my issue and actually saved the weekend as we thought we were going to have to go home! Dr. Greer was thorough and attentive. He explained everything he was doing step by step. I suffer from blepharitis and he knew exactly what eye drops I needed to help with my condition. I was referred to Dr. Greer through urgent care. It's obvious that he knows what he's doing. He had me diagnosed and in and out of the office within twenty minutes. He also went above and beyond to make sure to follow up with me. He doesn't take insurance, but you can send in for reimbursement to your insurance after. I went to Dr. Greer for a second opinion for my Stye. After the first doctor told me i needed plastic surgery to remove the stye since it was close to my tear ducts. I saw Dr. Greer and he immediately gave me options and before i left his office he drained the stye. Within a few hours i was back to normal. Only down side, I does not work with most insurance companies but i submitted a claim to my insurance and was reimbursed. After all the money and time i spent with the first Ophthalmogist, Dr Greer was my best choice and he delivered results. read more

I went to Dr. Greer last week for the first time due to pain and redness in my right eye. I've never had problems with my eyes before. His office got me in the very same day I called and Dr. Greer prescribed drops and ointment that have eliminated the pain and redness (still not entirely sure about what caused those). My only complaint is that because his office sees patients on an emergency basis, they don't assist at all with insurance so you pay entirely out of pocket and it's the patient's responsibility to file with their insurance company afterwards. If I have any problem with my eyes in the future I'd go back to Dr. Greer. read more

I woke up on the day of my wedding with severe eye pain. Having experienced painful corneal abrasions before, I suspected that was the issue, but it was a Saturday and I could not get in to see my normal eye doctor. After wasting several hours in Urgent Care, in pain, only to be told they couldn't help me, one of the nurses took pity on me since it was the day of my wedding and proactively contacted Dr. Greer who agreed to see me that same day. He was thorough and compassionate. He helped with a "band-aid" contact and steroid/antibiotic drops and was very patient in addressing my questions. He also was very thorough in following up and making sure I was getting adequate care as the abrasions healed. I would not hesitate to recommend him. read more

Dr. Greer was able to see me the same day I called for an appointment for what I thought was a sty but turned out to be a chalazion (blocked oil gland). I had been using antibacterial cream from urgent care (which had misdiagnosed my problem as a sty) which had been useless. He looked at my eye and immediately diagnosed it as a chalazion and proceeded to walk me through giving me a steroid injection that would resolve the issue. Lo and behold, my eye was back to normal after 1-2 days with just some bruising still healing from the injection and I couldn't be happier. Dr. Greer knows what he is doing. And he even asked me to text or call within a few days to keep him informed as to progress. You just don't get that kind of medical care anymore these days from most doctors. read more

After charging me $400.00 Dr. Greer did nothing for me. After giving me the same prescription from my previous eye doctor from 2011, he gave me contacts that I could not see out of. The only good thing he did, was refer me to another eye doctor. read more

I was diagnosed with Age Related Macular Degeneration, by a highly professional eye group in the Washington, DC region. I lived with that sentence for two years until I made an appointment to see Dr. Greer regarding an unrelated issue. I told Dr. Greer about the diagnosis and he examined me for that condition. The diagnosis was wrong, Dr. Greer declared. I had contacted a disease as a child which was related to chickens. That disease had scarred my retinas but had not affected my vision. Had I not visited Dr. Greer, I would have lived with the diagnosis of ARMD for years. I'm grateful to Dr. Greer for the his interest in my case and the thoroughness of his examination. read more

I was in DC for a conference for the weekend. I ended up having a problem with my eye. Dr Greer went out of his way to help me. His office was closed but he still was able to get my issue diagnosed and a prescription in my hands within an hour. He didn't stop there though, he followed up with me via text and phone, multiple times, to make sure I was improving. Dr Greer is amazing! I didn't think there were doctors like him left after managed care came on the scene. My husband had an eye emergency on a Friday evening while we were visiting DC. I called around looking for an eye doc who was open but received answering machine after answering machine saying the offices were open m-f 9-5. That is not a good answer when you may have a partially detached retina! Failure to treat in a timely fashion can lead to blindness. Long story short: Dr Greer answered the phone himself on a Friday night. He saw us next day first thing in the morning and advised us how best to proceed for laser surgery as soon as possible. Aside from his availability, he was smart, nice and empathetic. He even texted us over the weekend and again after my husbands surgery! We don't even live in DC. Dr. Douglas Greer is a very professional doctor. He figured out my problem in my left eye in my fist visit. He welcomed me in the front door, which is very warm. He help me do flushing procedures. My problem get mitigated. He is a good doctor with optimistic minds. read more

I get pretty severe and painful eye infections, and they come on pretty quickly. I was referred to Dr Greer and he answered my call the first time I called his office and was able to see me immediately. He listened carefully and took immediate action. My infection was noticeably better the next day, and within a few days was gone, which is rare with the types of infections I get. The only bummer is that I had to pay up front and mail away to my insurance company to be reimbursed - but it is totally worth it for the quality (and immediate) care I received. I would like to say thank you to Dr. Greer! I called Dr. Greer to set up an appointment because I have been having problems with my vision. What amazed me off the top was that he asked questions about my symptoms before anything else. That shows a very high level of dedication and concern when dealing with medical problems. My gratitude was extended even further after he referred me to another Dr. and asked that I follow up with him so that he may speak with the Dr. about my possible condition. I've had glasses for more than 3 decades and so I have had my share of ophthalmologists. When I realized I was having a problem, I decided to try someone new and downtown and I found Dr. Greer online. He was extremely responsive to my concerns and scheduled me for same-day. Dr. Greer's office set-up is efficient: shared receptionist among a suite of other professionals and he just uses 1 office for his exams, his work and his assistant. I was put-off at first by the streamlined set-up but it doesn't seem to affect (and maybe it helps?) Dr. Greer to be top notch for thoroughness. In retrospect, he correctly identified a rare disease (I knew I was having a problem) and the correct follow-up steps and recommended me to a terrific specialist. He's been completely considerate in following-up over the last 6 weeks to make sure that I am on the right path for treatment, etc. I'm extremely impressed and, btw, I'm usually incredibly cynical. read more
