I have no issues with the quality of the examination or my in-person interactions with Dr. Glasser…read more(several appointments over many years). My issue is the way I was treated on my last visit by his assistant after it became apparent to her that I would not be buying frames or lenses from the practice. Her attitude immediately changed when I asked for a prescription. She stood up, went to ring up my copayment, and when she returned with the prescription she remained standing and was abrupt with me when I asked her to explain the change in my prescription, which was in a format I was not familiar with based on what I received in prior visits. I'm an educated person who wants to know how things work and what numbers actually mean, not merely to be told that "any qualified optician will understand" the prescription. I was made to feel stupid and like I was an imposition so I left and fed the prescription into ChatGPT which politely explained it to me, including how a progressive prescription can be translated into single vision distance and reading prescriptions, and what the numbers mean. AI was more polite and patient with me than the assistant. Despite having no issues with the doctor himself, I will not be returning to this practice in the future. The barriers between patients and medical information are evaporating due to AI. Doctors would be well advised to ensure that they and their staffs at least match the courtesy of ChatGPT. Update: In response to Dr. Glasser's comment, all I can say is that it would have taken his assistant less than a minute to sit down and politely explain to me the meaning of the numbers. Regardless of whether I'm dealing with an optometrist or a cardiologist, I take it upon myself to gain a thorough understanding of my heath, which is what ChatGPT provided and the assistant did not. If the doctor doesn't want to take constructive feedback on such a simple point, then I suppose that my decision to go elsewhere is the right one.

By Wednesday morning, it had only gotten worse, and Dr. Lobaugh had a same-day appointment open so I could get in to get checked out. He and his intern were extremely thorough in examining my eyes to see if they could sort out what was going on and found I had a tiny abrasion in the center of my cornea that showed signs of getting infected. I got started on antibiotic drops and quickly started improving, and by a Friday follow-up, my vision was almost back to normal. Unfortunately, I lost my eye drops at some point going to and from the appointment! Michelle and Dr. Lobaugh were quick to check the office for them and then get a new prescription out so I could replace them. Michelle in particular was super responsive, and I felt very reassured as I was anxious to stay on time with my doses. I really couldn't recommend the team highly enough based on this experience! It was clear the team is more than just standard optometrists that can help you with glasses and contacts - coming from someone that doesn't need that side of eye care, they definitely know about eye health in general as well and want to make sure that you keep good vision when you have it!

Four visits, countless hours, repetitive tests, numerous charges, and a lot of waiting around to see the doctor, I ended up with contacts that seemed to be the wrong prescription, then contacts that didn't fit and dried out. On my fourth (most recent and definitely last) visit, I walked out after more than half an hour of being told I'd have to repeat tests I'd just had a couple months ago and wait another half hour to even see Dr. Teller. Deeply frustrating.

Tl/Dr: this is a PSA for the parking situation at this location…read more 5 stars for Dr. Lobaugh. -10000 stars for the location and parking garage. I was just getting comfortable riding the high of all green lights and zero traffic when I had the misfortune of entering the garage at 1700 N Moore. At first, it just looks like a normal garage. But as you ascend higher levels looking for parking you realize that's there are only like 10 parking spots per floor. Also notable is the fact that there were no elevators ... so I guess if you're disabled... better luck next time? I think I made it 3 or 4 floors before I decided to turn around (easier said than done because one lane for 2 way traffic) and find parking elsewhere. Luckily, I only encountered one other car coming while I was attempting going. I was going to make my way to the garage across the street but (surprise) the entrance on N Moore is employee only so take the entrance on N Lynn. So... 2 loops later, I made it into garage #2. Parking spaces were labeled weirdly, so I'm not even sure I parked in an allowed spot, but my car was still there after my appointment so there's that. I checked in w the security person at 1700 N Moore about the elevator situation and she said that the elevator was only available at certain floors of the garage. So ........ yeah. Also- Dr. Lobaugh is amazing. I followed her to NOVA optometry from her last practice in Arlington. Couldn't recommend a physician more. She's one of those people who just makes you feel like she gives a duck about you and whatever issue you're having. That's hard to find. She's basically the only person I'd ever come back to this god forsaken location for.

He had a flat affect and set a negative stage. I said I prob need more than a routine eye exam but was happy to start w that. He lmk that a dry eye test isn't covered by ins (which is fine) and not to expect that I could do both in one visit (also fine). He then said, the appt will be 15 min tops, so it's not a time to ask questions. I said, of course I want to be able to ask a couple questions, espec bc of eye irritation lately. He said, "I see your insurance is (x) and that only pays us like $60 per visit. We can't give patients longer than 15, we'd go out of business" (!) I couldn't believe it. The rudeness and the gall of mentioning my coverage resulted in poor profit for them. I suggested he NOT say those things to new or returning patients and he said he was trying to manage expectations, that patients "always complain" they want to be seen longer but it's not doable. Talk about poor patient relations/ customer service. I realize what the medical system is up against w insurance is rough, but never has a public-facing clinic employee been so dissuading about the care their provider provides. I can't NOT recommend this place enough; take your business to an office that will value it.
