I made an appointment with Dr. Lobaugh thanks to a referral from a neighbor. I started having some symptoms like dryness and blurriness on Monday, which I thought would get better with some moisturizing drops and rest. By Wednesday morning, it had only gotten worse, and Dr. Lobaugh had a same-day appointment open so I could get in to get checked out. He and his intern were extremely thorough in examining my eyes to see if they could sort out what was going on and found I had a tiny abrasion in the center of my cornea that showed signs of getting infected. I got started on antibiotic drops and quickly started improving, and by a Friday follow-up, my vision was almost back to normal. Unfortunately, I lost my eye drops at some point going to and from the appointment! Michelle and Dr. Lobaugh were quick to check the office for them and then get a new prescription out so I could replace them. Michelle in particular was super responsive, and I felt very reassured as I was anxious to stay on time with my doses. I really couldn't recommend the team highly enough based on this experience! It was clear the team is more than just standard optometrists that can help you with glasses and contacts - coming from someone that doesn't need that side of eye care, they definitely know about eye health in general as well and want to make sure that you keep good vision when you have it! read more

I sought out Dr. Teller based on a strong recommendation from someone I trust, but have been sadly disappointed. All I wanted was contacts. Four visits, countless hours, repetitive tests, numerous charges, and a lot of waiting around to see the doctor, I ended up with contacts that seemed to be the wrong prescription, then contacts that didn't fit and dried out. Nevertheless, I thought I'd give it one more try. On my fourth (most recent and definitely last) visit, I walked out after more than half an hour of being told I'd have to repeat tests I'd just had a couple months ago and wait another half hour to even see Dr. Teller. He has a good bedside manner and always does a comprehensive rundown of my tests, explaining what results mean for my eye health given my family history. Dr. Lobaugh and his interns are great. My recent appointment started on time and was efficient. My rating reflects the office staff, particularly the optical store staff that process post-visit paperwork and billing. A year ago, I remember they expressed some attitude when I told them I didn't plan to purchase glasses or contacts through them and just wanted to get a copy of my prescription. I brushed it off at the time - maybe I had been too direct with my request or maybe they had a bad day? I got what I needed and it wasn't the end of the world But after my recent appointment, they tried to overcharge me 3x what I owed! They said my insurance didn't cover some of the services provided, but when I insisted that they were covered, provided the coverage details, and walked through the charges, miraculously the majority of the charges disappeared! I'll be looking for a different optometrist, which is a shame because I like Dr. Lobaugh. If you do go to Eye Rx in DC, be sure to double check your bill!! read more

I've been going to these doctors for years. While the doctors are great the office's customer care is not. This last visit the doctor didn't properly check the fitting of my contacts, which irritated my eyes. When I called to revert my prescription to my previous contact brand the office refused to help me and was requiring that I come in for another appointment, even though that would have been completely unnecessary. I had to insist several times over several phone calls to speak to the doctor or the doctor's assistant in order to get the problem resolved. Once I got through to the doctor's assistant, things were resolved quickly, but I really had to push to get there. It shouldn't be that hard. Today I called to get my prescription emailed and was thrown on hold as soon as someone picked up and was on hold for over 20 minutes then disconnected. I had to call back 3 times before someone answered the phone. When they did and I told them that I was calling because they disconnected me, they couldn't be bothered to say sorry or explain the situation. Overall it just doesn't feel like they care that much about helping patients. I'm finding a new doctor. read more

To be clear, Dr. Lobaugh was a really good doctor. However, the office side's process was horrible. Before I came to the office, I called them and confirmed that my insurance is in their network. I confirmed again that at the front office on the visit day and they clearly agreed that my insurance covers eye exam. I paid the contact lens fitting fee plus alpha for $120 on that day. A few weeks later, I received the bill and it says no insurance coverage and it request me to pay $238 more! By calling to insurance company, it turned out that THEY DID NOT SUBMIT INSURANCE CLAIM PROPERLY. They said they try submitting again and get me back but never get me back. I called them again and again for following up but they always say leave notes and the corresponding person will call you back, and NEVER. You all know what this means. It is illegal to request paying the bill without filing to insurance company. As doctor was really nice person, the office side's misbehavior was really disappointing for me. read more

I have been going to Dr Benjamen Teller for over 15 years. I was actually referred to him by another doctor that couldn't figure what was wrong with my eyes. Dr. Teller solved my issue immediately. Four years ago I was covered with rashes including inside my eye lids. It was misery that lasted for 3 years. Dermatologist had no answers nor my regular doctor. Dr. TELLER SAVED ME!! He sent me to his allergist Dr Economides who was able to find out what was causing me to be so sick. I went from having to take bleach baths to clear skin. And... my hair grew back. I'm often on multiple eye drops. Dr Teller and his staff are sensitive to the fact that these drops cost a fortune and provide samples for me when they're available. read more

I had a very good experience here the other week with Dr. Benjamin Teller and plan to continue here for my eye doctor needs. I made an appointment last minute through ZocDoc based on the many positive reviews of Dr. Teller and the fact that his practice takes my CareFirst insurance in-network. I arrived on time and was told to use a computer kiosk to check in, even though it was a small practice and waiting room, so it felt oddly impersonal. I'd filled out the necessary paperwork ahead of time through ZocDoc, but as I'd made the appointment just a few hours before arriving, the office hadn't picked it up yet, and I ended up repeating a little bit of it. All that was taken care of quickly enough, and then I waited for no more than 10 minutes I'd say, but with the office TV showing obnoxious 24/7 news at an unnecessary volume. I'd have rather they showed Food Network or something like that, or at least had the "news" on mute with captions. It's stressful and disruptive to have loud and obnoxious TV going loudly while you wait. Anyway, the nurse brought me back and quickly and thoroughly took me through the initial exam and taking of photos. I opted for photos over having my pupils dilated, because I still had work to do that day. She explained clearly explained the portion of this I would have to pay that my insurance would not, which I accepted, but as it turned out my insurance will cover it because of what the photos showed (nothing alarming though, don't worry). Then the doctor came in and completed the exam and did a great job of explaining the strengths and weaknesses of my eyesight and what, if anything, I'd want to do today. I didn't need glasses, but if I had they have two folks setup in a little shop area right by the waiting room, and that's also where I was told to go to checkout at the end of my appointment. I'll be back next year to make sure all's still good! read more

Dr. Teller basically asks his assistant to do everything. I had to return to him to get an updated prescription because the lens didn't work. but even so he didn't bother himself to do the eye exam. Further he lied to me that the former prescription was absolutely right even though he changed the prescription quite a lot after his Asssitant did the exam for me again. Again, unfortunately his second prescription was not alright. Dr Teller also didn't want to explain thoroughly why his first prescription should have worked but it had not. The only good experience was that optician Justin listened carefully to my concerns and did his best (professionally) to adjust the frame. That is why I still grant a two-star for this place. read more

Still seeing Dr. Loubaugh 3 years later and it's just as good of an experience as before. He takes the time and listens to you and then the rest of the staff go above and behind to make sure you get the best glasses for your face shape as well as that will be covered by your insurance. read more

I came in for an annual eye exam with Dr. Teller and was very pleased. Upon entering the main lobby area, you find an electronic check-in kiosk, but not any old kiosk--it has a scanner that scans your insurance cards, driver's license, and asks most of the questions that would normally require a bunch of time at a reception desk! That was pretty cool. They seem to have very up-to-date equipment, and they offer an alternative to dilation if you hate that (it costs $39, for the record). After going through the initial tests with a really friendly assistant, Dr. Teller came in in short order. He answered my few questions, gave me some samples of eye drops that were very helpful, and I was on my way. The one thing is that I was told in the office that the non-dilation alternative I chose was not going to cost anything, but then about five minutes after I left the office, the receptionist called me to say that it was actually a $39 fee, and I gave her my card info over the phone. Initially, she had mentioned that it would be $39, but then said it was free when I was checking out, so I was a little off put but not terribly annoyed. That's the only reason I docked a star. read more

What made me choose Eye Rx over competitors was mainly because they (Eye Rx) had Online appointment scheduling. I had previously tried to make an appointment with a competitor, but I couldn't reach anyone when I called. So, when I saw Eye Rx had Online appointment scheduling, I went with them, instead. It was fast and easy. I chose to set my appointment with Dr. Lobough. This was my first time seeing Dr. Lobough. Previous to coming here, I had read a lot of positive reviews about him. He was exactly as other reviewers had described. He was courteous, professional, and provided a thorough eye exam and explained everything. His office staff were friendly and helpful. The optician who helped me pick out my eye glasses was very knowledgeable and knew right away what frame would look the best on my face. The entire experience was pleasant. Wow! Stepping into this eye doctor's office is like stepping into the future! There's an automated kiosk to check in, a la the airport, where you scan your docs and input your info and the funny eye prescription contraptions of my youth have been replaced by a fancy machine run by a COMPUTER! (Don't worry, they still say, "#1 or #2?") Finally, I always hated that test that blows air into your eyeball, and that's been replaced as well! Joking aside, my time at Dr. Lobaugh's office was seamless from start to finish. They were super accommodating when i had to change my appt last minute, they werent pushy at all to buy lenses/glasses from them, and the Doctor spent a good amount of time with me. Happy to have found a great eye doctor in DC, no longer have to sneak in a visit to my childhood eye doctor when visiting family in California. read more

I have been seeing Dr. Lobaugh for years and I like him. I could not be more turned off with the new check in system, however. It's all automated, and you have to enter a ton of information. It also requires you to scan your drivers license and insurance cards, but for some reason can't pull your personal information from them. So in addition to having to scan those cards, I also had to enter my name, insurance info, etc. WTF? This is a doctor's office--don't be so impersonal with the check in, people. read more

I'd ordered a pair of glasses from their optical department and feared the prescription was incorrect, so he went out of his way to squeeze in between patients and re-checked my prescription to make sure I had what I needed. Unfortunately, all-around awful. Literal dumpster fire of a professional office. I needed an updated prescription and a new pair of glasses, so went to Eye Rx for a vision test. Dr. Lobaugh and his assistant weren't attentive to the machine used to measure my prescription--the lenses kept fogging up, ultimately giving me a terribly off prescription. They didn't believe it was wrong, so went ahead and ordered me glasses. The guy handling glasses ordering pretended to care about my budget, and proceeded to give me a "deal" on glasses, but didn't reveal to me the real price (he stuck on a long list of added costs) until he asked for my credit card. Now I have a pair of $500 glasses with the wrong prescription--and a useless prescription going forward. Great job, everyone. read more

I felt like I was actually checked out by a real doctor. Reveieved a thorough exam that revealed more than I knew or understood about the health and condition of my eyes. Eye doctor visits are typically just a once a year or every other year event for me and that's primarily because I gauge the necessary frequency by what my doctor tells me requires my attention or follow on care. Dr. Lobaugh is exceptional. I wish he could be my primary care physician as well! He took his time with the examination, he asked questions that helped me think more about how my eyes have been behaving (you know the stuff you don't really think about or take notice of), he checked and re-checked certain characteristics of my eyes and offered recommendations that were not forced. I feel like I know more about my eyes and what to continue to monitor than ever before. Optician was also very nice and thorough in assessing how my new lenses should sit. Per usual, EyeRx gets it right! That said, the best part of my visit is that I can now wear contact lenses, thanks to the tutelage of Ryen. Not only was she an excellent teacher, but her patience was greatly appreciated. After MUCH trepidation about using/wearing contact lenses, Ryen was able to coax this non-believer that wearing contact lenses is as easy as riding a bike (well, almost:)). Not only did she help me find a method for getting the lenses in, but she also made me a pro at getting them out! Thank you for your skill and incredible patience! My husband and I have been going to Dr. Lobaugh for many years. He is a terrific eye doctor and a kind, soft spoken person who puts the patient very much at ease. Prior to finding Dr. Lobaugh, I had bounced around from eye doctor to eye doctor because I was never satisfied. Now that I have found Dr. Lobaugh, I plan to go to him until he retires! He really listens and tries to answer my questions and investigate my concerns. He actually found a tear in my retina before it became a problem. I am convinced that other doctors who are not as thorough would have missed this. My husband had an emergency with his eye and Dr. Lobaugh bent over backwards to help him and fit him into his full schedule so he could get relief as quickly as possible. Optician Dario Claudio went way above and beyond. I had glasses made at another practice and they were just not right. I had a second eye exam because my vision was so messed up. But it turns out that it was the glasses and not the prescription. Dario fixed the improperly made glasses, helped me get my money back, and now I can see perfectly! The eye exam from Stephen Lobaugh was fine. However, the optical department, from which you're supposed to actually get your glasses and contacts, is almost useless. I had to make several calls to get copies of my prescription (which they are legally required to give at the appointment.) They don't return calls (and make excuses about it), make errors in the prescription you're supposed to get (making more excuses), and, to top it off, can only provide prescriptions through fax (who even has a fax anymore??) or snail mail--not via email, scan, or an online portal. This is the only doctor's office I deal with that doesn't offer these conveniences. I gave up on getting glasses or contacts from them--if they can't even deal with returning a phone call and looking up a prescription, I'm not trusting them with my vision needs. This is DC--there are too many good providers to put up with inept service like this. Go somewhere else. read more
