receptionist was terrible. When she answered the phone, it wasn't a greeting. Rather just the words "hold" and immediate music. After holding for a long while, she came on and was very rude, short, and was relaying inconsistent information. Due to her sassiness and unprofessionalism, I will not make an appointment here. Dr Butrus is a very smart, courteous and professional doctor. He is also very honest and he genuinely cares about my overall health. For more than 15 years, he has performed several procedures, test, and dilations on my eyes. My diabetes is now well controlled and my vision has improved significantly. I've been going to Dr. Butrus for almost 10 years. I had PRK done with him and still have perfect vision after 8 years. He is friendly, helpful, caring and remembers me every time I go back. His office manager is great and his assistants are helpful. The front desk staff is the only reason I can't give the office a 5. But I think it's worth it to have Dr. Butrus. read more

I know plenty of people love this doctor, but I've had two miserable experiences with him, 20 years apart. So I know it's not just an off day or something. More recently, the staff was pleasant enough, although the wait was long. The doctor did look INTO my eyes, but barely actually looked AT me and was not listening to me or talking to me. Then the office charged me $100 ON TOP of the co-pay -- which was not even suggested beforehand. I should have argued more at the time, but I was tired and wanted out. When Prime Flex refused to pay that extra, the office was unable to provide any kind of documentation and insisted SIX WEEKS after the fact that I'd "get something in the mail from the billing company." Nor was the office able/willing to provide my GP with a diagnosis to explain the heavy-duty, long-term antibiotics provided. read more

My mother has been a patient of Dr Butrus' for about 25 years, and I've been a patient for five or six. He's a nice man and a terrific doctor, and his staff are sweet and helpful. Having finally elected to pursue LASIK, I've been thrilled with Dr. Butrus' quality of care. He made sure I was fully informed on the nature of the procedure, did an excellent job with the surgery itself, and has been wonderfully responsive and thorough during my follow-up visits. I can't believe how wonderful my eyesight is now, and I've had no complications or concerns of any kind. I love this Ophthalmology office!! I am a returning patient after 15 yrs. First Dr. Butrus far exceed my expectations as great eye doctors and have a great office staff. Going in is like a quick stop to the store. Each individual, from the doctor to the office staff treat you with the very best care. They explain everything, offer advice, getting me the best glasses and contacts for my eyes and taking care of all my eye needs plus working toward the future of having good eye sight as my eye needs change. Their help is so personal, like you are the most important patient they have, and they give this quality of care to each one that comes walking in the door. I "trust" my eye doctor's office with the most valuable gift of my eye sight. I cannot thank them enough for what they have done for me. I very rarely write reviews. To start with, I've had a good experience with Dr. Butrus. I recently received word that they will no longer take my insurance, so I'm currently looking for another eye doctor. The issue I've had is with his office staff. Last year, they billed my old insurance for an order of contacts even though I gave them my card at the beginning of the visit. After going back and forth over the course of the week, I gave up and just ate the $200. This year, I've been trying for two months to get a copy of my glasses prescription. I went in person one day when I was working at home in the neighborhood, but because Dr. Butrus was not in the office that day I could not receive a copy. They asked for a fax number, but I do not have one, so they said they would mail it. I never received it. I called again a few weeks later and went through the same process. Since I work in Arlington, I can't just stop by during their office hours. It again was again never mailed. I'm working from home again today and planned to stop by in the afternoon, but figured I'd call ahead so it would be ready. I was told it would take three days for him to write out a simple prescription. Then I was told it could be ready tomorrow, but that doesn't help because I'll be in Arlington. Again I was asked about a fax number and they said they don't mail it. I give up. I would have to find a new eye doctor even if they did take my insurance. read more

I've been a patient of Dr. Butrus at the Eye Center on Capitol Hill since 2005. After more than a decade under his care, Dr. B. finally convinced me to get LASIK. What a life-changer! I've been severely near sighted since I was 12 and now I have perfect, clear vision. He did a mono vision procedure for me so I rarely ever need to wear reading glasses. Dr. Butrus patiently described the procedure to me and answered all of my questions. I truly couldn't be happier with my results. My mother was also a patient of Dr. Butrus and he did her cataract surgery several years ago. She and I both were made to feel comfortable throughout the entire treatment process and she also had perfect vision afterward. I also must add that Dr. B's office staff is terrific. I think he's had most of the same people working for him for as long as I've been his patient. That says a lot! Yes, his office isn't the fanciest but who needs fancy when the care you get is as good as it gets. read more

Dr. Butrus was a good listener an had good bedside manner, but overall I'm on the fence. I was given a treatment regimen of 22 eye drops a day and told I needed at least 4 appointments for follow-up, which seemed really excessive to me. The first appointment with the doctor was very thorough but the subsequent appointment lasted 2 minutes, basically only to tell me to keep coming back. I also had concerns about the way they billed my insurance, which they ended up rectifying, but there's a part of me that feels like billing insurance for as much as they can is their top priority. That being said, I think Dr. Butrus is very knowledgeable and easy to work with. read more

I had eye surgery for cataracts and Lasik on both eyes and see very well sometimes I don't need reading glasses. I am and was quite please with the services I received during and after my surgery. He took time with me to thoroughly explain what was going on with my eyes, provided literature for me to read. I develop a good relationship with his staff based on their professionalism and courtesy. Before I used any machine the staff would clean before and after use. I am very particular and watch folks action despite the pleasantries and found everything in place to make me feel comfortable with Dr Butrus and his staff. read more

In the midst of Covid-19 I began seeing floaters in my eye and needed to see an ophthalmologist. As soon as the Mayor allowed patients to see the eye doctor, I was able to get an appointment with Dr. Butrus. I must say, I was concerned at first being in the midst of the pandemic but what I read online about the sudden onset of floaters, I had to get over my fear. When I arrived, the office was ready to receive patients. Clear signage was up explaining the social distancing rules, plenty of hand sanitizer was available and face masks were being worn by all of the patients and staff. The equipment was sanitized before and after my exam. The exam was extensive, the staff helpful, caring and professional. Dr. Butrus was caring, thorough in his examination and listened to my concerns and fear. I would strongly recommend anyone with eye problems, someone who really needs to see an experienced ophthalmologist vs. an optometrist to set-up an appointment with Dr. Butrus. read more

Hands down this is *the* friendliest and most genuine eye doctor office I have ever discovered. I've been wearing glasses/ contacts for over 20 years. 6 months ago, I made the change to the Eye Center to see Dr. Butrus (per a friend's recommendation) for a consultation on Lasik surgery. I have had 5 appointments with his office and not only is it clear that his staff is friendly, but they seem to really enjoy what they do. Pre and post Lasik, they answered all of my questions and were able to provide me with comfort during my transition and healing process. Dr. Butrus is approachable, warm and friendly and it's clear that his team of ladies operatate well with him. He walked me through every step of the Lasik surgery and all has been quite a success. It's not the fanciest office with super high tech equipment, but finding an office where the first thing you notice is that people really like working there is a rare find in any medical environment. read more

I found Dr. Butrus and his staff to be friendly, but I did not find them to be competent. He did not actually listen to why I was in the office. I was not there for new glasses or dilation, though he kept focusing on only my vision (which hasn't changed in two years). I was there for a medical issue. His diagnosis was "It's inflammation. You won't go blind." I really wasn't worried about going blind...I'm simply tired of having itchy eyes and wanted to visit an ophthalmologist versus an optometrist. I should have walked out as soon as I walked into the office. I got a sense that it wasn't very clean and boy was I right. The refraction machine smelled like it was from an antique shop, and I was grossed out having it touch my face. He touched an eye dropper to my eye AND PUT IT BACK IN THE BOTTLE. How many other eyes have been on that thing?? I cancelled my follow-up and got a recommendation for a doctor in McLean. I don't want to drive all the way out there, but I'd take anything over returning here. read more

This review is for the Opthamologist Dr Butris in this office. They are not sanitary. The doctor nor the pyshician assistants wear gloves when touching your eye. Also the machines they use to take images of your cornea are ancient. They don't even clean the tools they use to place on your cornea. I can't believe that the dr actually performs surgery here. It is unsanitary, unsafe, and you will probably go blind here. Also, even you go there on time for your appointment, because they overbook patients to get as much money as possible, they rush you through all the tests. You're running around from room to room and the dr looks another patient's while he is supposedly helping you. The dr doesn't take the time to explain things, he just says what he needs to say and runs out to go to another patient. read more

I can only say good things about the Eye Center on Capitol Hill. I have been going there since 2008 and an eye patient since I was 9 years old. Dr. Butrus is the most caring, patient, knowledgeable and competent eye doctor I've ever had. I went to Dr. Butrus when I realized my use of storefront sellers of eyeglasses as my source of eye care was not smart. I had been having problems with my vision and knew that none of the people who administered eye exams had much understanding of my eyes. I really think Dr. Butrus is the reason why my vision did not continue to deteriorate and thankfully, he continues to give me peace of mind. I know he is keeping track of my eyes in a way only a qualified ophthalmologist can! I also love his office staff -- many of whom have been there since I started going there -- who are friendly and keep the office operations on time and with seamless offering of care not provided directly by Dr. Butrus. I always feel good about going there. My eyes are in good hands! read more
