We were on vacation and visiting Astoria, OR. We stayed in Ocean Park and we wanted to have a nice dinner, but we didn't want to drive to Long Beach. We did a google search and found Mycovios - and it was close! The restaurant looks nice and quaint on the outside - well decorated and looks inviting. Then we stepped inside and it was a zoo. We didn't have a reservation, so we were told we could sit at the bar or take a table outside. Being a nice night, we took the table. The furniture should've been wiped down - there was some dirt on the seat and the table top felt dirty too. We were both hungry, so we stayed. The server was definitely different than what we expected. Nice guy, but we could feel the stress! I think he came outside to get away from the chaos inside. We had a chicken alfredo. My better half loved it. I thought it was a bit salty. She had a glass of wine that she liked too - I just drank water. We did like the bread and I asked for plain olive oil - the waiter actually spilled some on my leg - luckily I was wearing shorts! Funny, he noticed and ignored it at first, then came up with a lame apology. The bill was pretty high for pasta and wine, but they're pretty much the only game in town and they're also busy. The waiter was stressed out and he was sweating as he went in and out of the restaurant. We spoke to someone who was at the bar and there was some sort of argument between the waiter and the chef - I guess it was loud enough for her to hear. That's what created the chaotic mood and the waiter being off kilter. So, we give it a four star. My better half really liked it. I'm a bit pickier about my food and even though it was good, I think the saltiness brought it down a little. When I say salty, I don't mean Olive Garden/Buca di Beppo salty - not like that. It was just on the salty side and I would've enjoyed it more if I could've controlled the amount of salt in the food. read more

Great, small Italian restaurant in the heart of ocean park. We enjoyed the great service by the staff. Very welcoming and kid friendly. They have daily specials and their usual menu. We ordered pappardelle with brined chicken, ribeye steak, cioppino, and the raw oysters they had on special. The steak was a bit on the salty side, but had good flavor. This was our second Anniversary dinner here. The first time was absolutely amazing so we came back. The food is still amazing, the chef did come out and talk to us which is great. The restaurant is clean and has good music. Last night's server struck out and has us questioning if we will return. Never put a new server alone on her first day. Was never told the special, which after we heard what it was definitely would have ordered. Never refilled the waters or offered a wine refill. Ultimately our check was dropped before asking if we wanted dessert, which we did. We didn't order any since feeling duped on the special and still thirsty. AND she was calling the other server DAD!?! Come on. Don't hire your teenage kids for fine dining. read more

What a fantastic dining experience! We were absolutely thrilled to find such a wonderful spot in Ocean Park. The restaurant is very small and cozy (definitely recommend making a reservation), with an open kitchen concept that adds a fun, personal touch to the evening. We ordered the chef's special -- a perfectly cooked piece of fish served over creamy risotto with a fresh, dressed arugula salad -- and it was outstanding. We also shared the boar pasta dish and the sliced beef bruschetta, both of which were full of flavor and beautifully prepared. The fresh baked bread with a delicious balsamic vinegar and olive oil for the table was a great start to the meal, and we enjoyed a bottle of Pinot Noir that paired perfectly with everything. Service was excellent -- friendly, attentive, and welcoming -- and the chef even joked around with us a bit, which made the experience even more memorable. Our total bill was around $150, and it was worth every penny. Highly recommend this place! We're so excited to finally have a dining experience of this caliber in Ocean Park. Small intimate space. Definitely get a reservation. Maybe 10 table dining room. This is our second time there. We had the same server as last time. Stellar and I mean stellar personal service. Food was over the top delicious, huge depth of flavor and you can tell there is an attention to detail that doesn't rival anything else on the peninsula. We asked for a glass of Sangiovese wine to share but the server suggested a better red and boy was he right! We also got to have a great one on one conversation with the chef. He knows what he is doing and if it's the special, just order it. It will be amazing. Every time we come back to Long Beach we will be going here no matter what. We have been to Mycovios multiple times and have been happy with our experience every time. We most often order Chef Paul's "special" but the ribeye and the cioppino are also excellent. Mathew is an excellent server and this was the first time we met Kitty. Kitty did a great job as our server, never rushing our meal. We went to Mycovios and even though the food was good, the service was terrible. I have never been so embarrassed at a restaurant before. I didn't want to finish my entree because I like to take half home and have it the next day and the waiter said, "you didn't finish your meal because you filled up on bread". Excuse me. Then we ordered dessert. We are seniors and we always take half our food home for the next day. When we ordered dessert the waiter said, "I should tell your mother, you shouldn't get dessert when you didn't eat your meal". Seriously??? I was pissed. I am a senior and I do not need eating advise from a waiter who clearly did not know how to treat customers. We will NEVER GO BACK. read more

We decided to treat ourselves for my hubby's birthday, so we made reservations at Mycovios. Our waiter greeted us by name and was very attentive throughout the meal. We started with the Bruschetta with tomato marmalade and wedge salad which we asked to split. Both were amazing! For our main I had the special which was a mushroom risotto with rock fish. The fish was fresh and cooked perfectly. The mushrooms and fava beans in the creamy risotto were delicious. Dan had the lasagna which came to the table piping hot. It was a mild sauce and creamy. For dessert Dan had the tiramisu which was very creamy with a lot of coffee powder. I had the lemon bar dessert. The crust was a bit thick but tasty. The merengue on top was toasted and tasty with crunchy bits on top. Lindor truffles came with the bill. It was a delicious adventure! read more

My close friends took me here for my birthday as they know the chef and had eaten here previously. It was simply outstanding! A small and intimate place that feels like you're in someone's home --cozy but not crowded. The menu is primarily Italian and it's an open kitchen. I had the Cioppino, which was delicious; loved the grilled bread that came with. My friends had the ragu and the special that evening, which was rockfish over pasta. Honestly my favorite of the night was the chopped Romaine salad --it reads so simple but it tasted incredible. I tried to replicate when I returned home actually! My husband and I were in Ocean Park for a few days and had dinner here our last night in town. The bruschetta starter we had as an appitizer was lovely, but the real treat was our entrees! The staff made a recommendation of the Cioppinio - fish stew - that blew me away with how good it was - don't leave without it! We finished with sharing tiramisu that was delicious as well. We made our reservation for 6:30, arrived at 6:20. Walked in to a packed place, was greeted right away. Was told our table was coming up in time for our reservation, excellent. We were seated and our server was super friendly. He told us the specials, one which we ordered. Rock fish on thin spaghetti. It was really REALLY good. Beyond chefs kiss. I got the Alfredo with chicken. I don't know how they cooked that chicken to make it taste that good but dang. My Alfredo sauce was a little watery but still delicious. We also ordered the bruschetta with sliced beef. I want to eat that everyday! The chef came and spoke with us, super nice guy. He really loves what he does and it shows in his food, he runs a great kitchen with great staff. We would come here regularly if we lived closer! I jumped at the chef special (slow roasted lamb chops over saffron risotto). My wife, always the seafood aficionado, ordered clams and thin spaghetti.
