    Chicken Coriander
    Saranya D.

First time from this place, ordered through Yelp takeout .. Order was processed and ready on time ..I wanted to play it safe so ordered two chicken dishes .. But food was an epic fail, it needs work .. The food was sub par, not up-to standards for Mediterranean food .. Ordered Boneless chicken and Coriander chicken .. The food was disappointingly bland .. Hummus and Garlic sauce that came along were okay comparatively .. Boneless Chicken did not have any flavor and it was so dry .. Coriander chicken was weird and not tasty.. Rice pilaf was so bland and tasteless .. Decent portion but overly priced .. They do not offer curbside pickup, should go inside the store for pickup .. The owner or the cashier who attended was rude, not welcoming.. Not sure if I will be back ..

It's been a while since my last review and things have changed--some for the better, but some for the worse. On the bright side of things, the interior has been updated and looks nice, with new flooring and coordinating wall paneling, a fake plant wall hanging, a snazzy "My Shawarma" neon sign and menu boards that rotate through different menus. They replaced the comfy booths with rather utilitarian looking tables and chairs, which was a little disappointing. The young women who waited on me were friendly and polite, apologizing when the order that was promised in 15 minutes wasn't ready for 30 minutes. The beef shawarma was as delicious as it's always been, and my daughter enjoyed it immensely. She was disappointed in the rice though and threw it away. It appears they changed the recipe, and it basically tasted like everyday white rice with the slightest hint of what makes rice at Middle Eastern restaurants so good. My husband enjoyed the hummus, while my daughter and I didn't like it because it's super creamy and tastes watered down. I'm assuming our order took double prep time because they forgot to make the entree. When we bit into our falafel sandwiches, they were cold throughout. The wrap and falafel were always warm in the past. They must have sat there so long that the juices from the pickles and/or tomatoes soaked into the pita wrap and it was mushy, which is unappetizing. My husband and I unwrapped them and didn't eat the squishy pita. As you may be able to see from the pictures of the lentil soup, it's oily and there are very few lentils in the soup, even after stirring. I had grease covering my fingers just from taking the lid off; lentil soup shouldn't be greasy. Their soup used to be thick, flavorful--stellar really--so I'm really bummed. To top it off, two of 5 cooks working in there kitchen had their masks pulled below their noses the entire 30 minutes I was there. I'm sad because this was our go-to for excellent Middle Eastern food. We'll give them another try when the need for masks is gone in hopes the experience today was a fluke. I hope your encounter is a 5 star!

Beef shwarma times 2 with hummus and salad. That's how royalty eats

While driving on the outskirts of Motown, I was craving for some middle eastern cuisine. There were so many choices available and I kept contemplating on which one to stop at, as I had already surpassed about 4 restaurants. I finally decided to stop at Canton Pita because I noticed a lunch special sign on the front door in bold letters. The special was for $7.99 which included a beef shwarma sandwich with 2 sides and I went with hummus and salad. I also ordered an extra beef shwarma. The shwarma were excellent. The beef was tender, chewy and tasteful. There was plenty beef in the sandwich. It was complimented with tomatoes, pickles and tahini sauce. The hummus was smooth and creamy and very flavorful. My salad was good too. Fresh greens drizzled with olive oil and served with pita bread and garlic sauce. I can see myself returning to canton pita, but given the choice of so many Mediterranean restaurants in the area, it'll be hard to stay loyal to just one.

Canton Pita was a new stop for me on my lunch break one day. I was excited to try it out as I've heard wonderful things about it! We placed an order over the phone in order to have time to eat. They ended up being packed. People were waiting for their food in long lines. My coworkers food took about 45 minutes. The wait didn't bother me, as I know things are difficult for businesses right now and so many are short staffed. What bothered me was a strong skunky smell from the back. When we first arrived it wasn't noticeable but eventually overpowered the smell of my food. I went to the bathroom, which was unusable at the time, and noticed the back door open and a staff member smoking. I can only guess that's where it was coming from. It was very off putting and it made enjoying my food difficult. The beef shawarma was ok. It came with a big thing of hummus, which was good. Overall, there's a lot of competition in the area, and because of this, I likely won't be back to Canton Pita in the future.

Amazing food and staff. They recently gave away 1000 sandwiches in honor of launching two new flavors. Check out my Instagram for a full review Instagram.com/detroithalaleats

Parking spaces were ample as the neighboring businesses weren't busy at all during this holiday week. The inside was not ornately decorated as some of the fancier places in the area that serve this type of cuisine. Between the booths and tables, my estimate was that the seating capacity was around 50 customers. The menu booklet contained several pages of offerings across the categories of appetizers, soups, salads, sides, wraps/subs, traditional dishes, and seafood/chops. For beverages, there were juices, smoothies, coffee, tea, and soft drinks. My friends each chose a different type of wrap for their meal. I picked one of the entrees from the traditional dishes which was the Gallaba over Hummus. In my hometown, I don't see gallaba as often as items like shish kabobs and shawarma. My order consisted of a choice of meat (lamb was my pick) sauteed with green peppers, onions, tomatoes, mushrooms, and carrots with special spices added. The mixture was served on a bed of hummus with my choice of rice on the side. A cup of chicken rice soup (instead of lentil) also came with this traditional dish. While we were waiting for our food, a basket of warm pita bread and a cup of garlic spread were provided. The spread was very pungent so I used it sparingly. An extra dinner salad was mistakenly added which I saved for leftovers. The gallaba was essentially a Middle Eastern version of a meat stir fry. The pieces of lamb were tender and not gamey. The spices added flavor but not saltiness. Between the bread, soup, rice, and gallaba, it was a generous portion size that also became leftovers for later. For the quality and price of my meal, I gave a four star rating for our visit to The Sheikh Restaurant.

The food is even better than its predecessor in the same location. In my opinion, it has the best fahsah (even better than another Canton location or their Dearborn twin restaurant). More flavor, more meat, and a tastier crunchier bread to go with it. The other options have more variety than many other places. I like the broiled chicken, the chicken shawarma, shawarma combo... tons of delicious options. I can't stop thinking about the fahsah, though. It's a "stick in your mind forever" kind of dish, especially the way they prepare it here. The appetizers (Kibbee, Ghanouj, Hummus, Spicy Potatoes) were all fantastic. Careful with the veggie grape leaves, though! They tasted like a pile of bitter lemon and were a bit tough to eat - only bad thing I've ever had here. One of the biggest improvements over the restaurant that was here before is the service. Previously, we went and felt ignored as the servers left water cups empty and didn't bring parts of our meal and chatted with their friends - the service was terrible. This new restaurant, with a different menu but with some familiar items, doesn't share the same fate - the team members here are attentive, and friendly, and the place feels cleaner and more well-kept. I highly recommend going to Al-Jannah. Did I mention the fahsah enough times yet? :)

It was not edible at all. The rice that came with the entree was also hard and clearly not fresh. I called and spoke to one of the workers and he was very nice and apologetic. He offered to have it remade but I was heading to work so I didn't have time to go pick up another order so I asked for a refund. He said he couldn't do a refund without the owners permission and put me on hold to talk to him. I talked to the owner and explained the situation and he told me "I'll take care of you next time". I asked for a refund and his tone changed and he said "ok bring the food back in". I said I'm literally on my way to work and he said ok bring the food back after work. I said I can bring the food back tomorrow because they will be closed by the time I get off work and he said ok. At that point it was not only a waste of my money but also a waste of my time. So after I hung up I decided I'll just write a review and they can see a picture of the food because I'm not wasting my time driving back for them to believe me that they served poor quality food. I will definitely not be returning and I do not recommend this place.

The ambience is absolutely lovely--spacious, clean, and very pleasant to sit in. The upstairs seating area is especially nice, with comfortable tables and chairs that make it a great spot to relax. They also offer a good selection of packed bakery items on display that look fresh and tempting, making it ideal for a quick grab-and-go visit. That said, the dine-in experience was let down by long wait times. I ordered a croissant and a falafel sandwich and ended up waiting significantly longer than expected, with little to no updates on my order. The ordering system--placing the order in one area and then waiting with a buzzer to collect before paying--felt somewhat inefficient, especially during off-peak hours on a weekday when the café wasn't particularly busy. In terms of food, the falafel sandwich was decent, while the croissant was just okay. Overall, the service felt slow and somewhat disorganized during this visit. I later stopped by just for grab-and-go items, and that experience was much smoother and quicker. Overall, the café has a beautiful ambience and fresh offerings, but there is definitely room for improvement in service speed and order management for dine-in items.

Now I'm not gonna let her experience influence my rating, but I will say they took a long time with my order as well. In their defense I requested 21 pieces of kanafeh divided into 6 different orders to go because I was gifting them to other people. They clearly didn't have enough kanafeh to fulfill my order on the spot and I could tell they were scrambling to make more. It was nice getting a new batch fresh, but it's clear that the weakest aspect of this business is efficiency. I felt bad because a few people came after me and also had to wait while they were making more in the kitchen. Getting this story out of the way, the dining area is beautiful, their coffee is excellent, and the staff are very courteous (although I had a hard time communicating my order to the cashier). But the most important thing is their kanafeh is delicious, and I hope they remain in business for years to come. I'm probably going to have to call in my future orders ahead of time if they are going to take this long to prepare. This is the only reason I didn't give them a perfect 5 star rating
