A+! It took a while to decide how to proceed with the ordering at My Loup, but I suspect you can't go wrong no matter what you decide. Similar to an omakase, My Loup has a "Let Us Cook For you" option. It's $125 for this option, and given the price ranges of the dishes on the menu, you're guaranteed to cover a broad swath of menu items regardless of whether you go with the Let Us Cook For You option or select $125 worth of menu items to order. While My Loup's menu frequently changes--stated on their website as changing daily--there are some items that seem to stay consistent. The Green Garlic 'Escar-roll' seems to be a staple menu item. And for a good reason! Who would have thought a garlic knot of bread in a green sauce could be so tasty. A lot of other menu items went above and beyond expectations like the apple stuffed cabbage with winter crunch and the roast chicken. On the flip side, the pickled shrimp with aioli and saltines is a popular menu item that I found very uninteresting. Components of each dish stood out but as a whole it was largely underwhelming. I'd come back for certain menu items but as a whole, I would not recommend (it kinda pains me to say this) Service was great and they marked up my menu with allergens. It seemed like all the staff was made aware so everyone who came by was very clear on what had an allergen and what didn't. Amberjack crudo- I felt the fish was a little too thick which didn't let the flavor of the sauce fully penetrate through. I wished for more acid flavor. The blistered tomatoes on top were the best part of this dish Lamb- I forget the name of this dish but it was thinly sliced lamb with turnip and a vibrant green sauce. I loved this. The sauce had a good blend of acid and herbs and brightened the whole dish. The lamb was tender. This came with fries and mayo and they recommended wrapping the fries in meat. The fries were crisped super well and the mayo was some of the best mayo I've ever had in my life. It was thick and rich and not eggy. The combo of meat, mayo, fry felt overdone and didn't add anything. Individually, each component was stunning and enough to stand on its own. Favorite bite of the night for sure though. Pork chop- butter and butter and butter. I thought nothing special. Not a fan of the mango pieces on top either. I thought you kinda had to dip it in the grainy mustard to be good Swordfish-The fish held up super well and texturally was almost meaty. I liked the lil pickled thin green bean looking things. Wish i could give it a 3.5! Def some winners but misses as well. Oysters were excellent (and even came with two different varieties), amberjack crudo paired well with the nectarines/hazelnuts (although couldve used a touch more acid), and the escar-roll was buttery goodness. The cold lamb was interesting but the green sauce on top helped elevate the flavor + our waiter recommended getting fries on the side (and who doesnt love a good fry?!). The trout fell flat for me - still decent but not worth the $42 price tag. Summer is definitely the time to get those hard to reserve reservations. I found a Friday night reservation in early July. The food was perfect. A few highlights - the amberjack and a mushroom focused main course (can't remember what it was called!), and the homemade sourdough, cultured butter and pickles (that butter OMG!). Really mixed feeling and not sure if we didn't try the right dishes, although knowing it is a rotating menu. Service was extremely on point with attention to detail. Dishes were enjoyable, especially the cabbage and apple dish but nothing blew us away. Pickled shrimp which seemed like a customors favorite was delicious and definitely add the basil leaf to each shrimp/cracker - it will enhance the flavor! Unfortunately the extra sourdough bread (and we love our breads) was extremely hard and not chewy at all. The butter was hard and bland as well. It was one of those awkward moments where we looked at one another exchanging looks of "is this really what it's supposed to taste like?". Tried a few different plates by choice instead of doing the tasting menu option. Extra sour sourdough is a must get, amplified by the creamy whipped butter. If you like sourdough, this may be among the best, plus you get some huge slices too. The sungolds and beets over sunflower purée had some subtle but good flavor, though felt like this was missing something to enhance the produce. Scallop with boudin noir (blood sausage) was interesting as on one hand the blood sausage with apple compote was quite unique and tasty, the scallops, though perfect on their own, kind of fell to the wayside being overshadowed. Fried skate cheek had a sweet, creamy sauce that was nice. Didn't overpower the skate and added a lot of flavor. The chocolate cake although being good, didn't have any special characteristics - would try a different option next time. I'd like to come try new courses when the menu is updated in a future season as the originality with dishes is great to try. If being very critical against other higher level cooking, I'd say my experience felt more like a 4/5 though the vision of the chef and spark for delicious food was apparent just may have been an off night (they were very busy with a larger group). By far, my favorite meal of our entire trip to Philly (and we tried a lot of places so that's saying something). We made a reservation at the bar and our seats were ready within 2 minutes of our arrival. The host was really friendly and welcoming. We quickly learned that our bartender had lived in Baltimore before so we already felt a personal connection to her. Both bartenders, Jillian and Lillian, were incredible. The dirty martini that Lillian made for me was by far the best dirty martini I've ever had. Seriously! I still think about it months later. The olive brine is house made and the blue cheese stuffed olives were the perfect temperature and consistency. They were happy to work around my gluten free dietary restriction and even consulted with the kitchen to mark up a custom menu just for me. I so appreciated the extra step they took to make sure I enjoyed what I could from the menu. All the food came out quickly, too. We ordered the razor clams, two oysters, lamb ribs with rhubar-BBQ sauce, the chorizo stuffed squid, and the chopped salad. Everything was incredible. The lamb ribs with the rhubarb were amazing. Such a fun and delicious combo. The seafood was fresh and well prepared. The chorizo stuffed squid was absolutely insane! Something I've never had before that I wish I saw on more menus because, WOW! beautiful date night spot! this is my first time back to my loup since they first opened, and the food here is just as good as i remember. my boyfriend and i shared the salad niçoise and the escar-rolls. the escar-rolls were delicious and drenched in garlic butter and parmesan -- i could've eaten three of them myself, so good. the salad niçoise was a miss for me. extremely tiny salad for $22, and i did not like the dressing which tasted very mayo heavy. for our mains, we shared the roast chicken and the duck à l'orange. the chicken was juicy and the fries it came with were perfectly crisp and salty. the duck was amazing, it was cooked to a perfect medium rare and the sauce was bright and packed with flavor. i'm also a huge fan of golden beets, they were lightly sweet and delightful! thinking about the duck is making me hungry... we ended the night with a sundae which was tart with pieces of sour fruit/candy mixed in. i could've done without the sour bits, but it was a good palette cleanser and a light way to end the night. service was extremely fast, almost too much so. as soon as we finished one dish, our waiter was there to take it away. our waters were never empty. they did tell us multiple times to take our time, but everything moved so fast we were out in under an hour and a half. overall, i had a great experience and i'm chalking up the unfortunate salad to poor ordering on my part. definitely not as great as her place, but worth a visit nonetheless! read more

We booked a reservation about a week in advance and the only spot left for Friday night was 9 PM, which we jumped on immediately. At first, I was a little worried about going in so late since the kitchen closes at 10 PM, but it turns out my concern was unnecessary. Even as we were finishing up, other tables were still being seated after 9:45, so we never felt rushed. My husband and I debated trying the "Let Us Cook" option, which is essentially a 4 course chef's choice menu, but ultimately decided to order a variety of plates to share instead (around 10 total). I'm glad we did, because it gave us the chance to experience so many different flavors and creative dishes. Highlights included the playful pickled shrimp and saltine "lunchables" and a polenta with corn and chanterelles that I'll be dreaming about for a long time. Amazing food and service! Came for my wife's birthday and went with the "let us cook for you" option which was $125 pp. 4 courses but tons of food- we were stuffed! Our waiter, Dan, was the best and indulged my corny high-fives. Best bite of the night for me was the lobster hazelnut squash- a savory yet sweet dish. Hunks of lobster, some sage, nested on a perfectly baked sliver of squash and a hazelnut cream sauce that maybe had a hint of caramel?... omg! It was fall-tasting fantastic! I essentially drank the bowl ... just the right balance of savory, sweet, and decadent. So many flavors at once but perfectly balanced. My wife's best bite was the veal sweetbreads- and yes it was so good! I suspect it was brined/ maybe braised prior to grilling because it was so tender and delicious. It came over a bed of split peas and kale which paired wonderfully- such a robust flavor and not at all gamey. Next favorite was the pickled shrimp- a must-get! Hearty shrimp, tart pickling, fresh basil, great mayo - this was a favorite from the first course! The halibut clam chowder dish was unfortunately our least favorite... but then again, we don't love clams. The sauce was just a bit bitter to us for some reason. This was a great decision as we got to try a huge array of dishes and with very generous portions including: A beautiful seafood platter of (1) 6 oysters, (2) a pair of Maine Sea Urchins, Sweet Potato, Brioche, and (3) Bay Scallops, Parsnip, Hazelnut, Asian Pear. Every bite was fresh and new, and the whole thing was beautiful. Plus we got the pickled shrimp on the side! After that, we were presented with Cold Roast Pork, Bagna Cauda, Celery, Capers, Fries (astonishingly good); Chicories, Apples, Cheddar, Buttermilk, Winter Crunch; and Pastrami Beef Tartare, Latkes, Yellow Mustard, Fixings. Next we shared Grilled Bone-In Turbot, Potato, Spinach, Mussels. Finally, there was a raisin crème brûlée and an ice cream. And two Rice Krispie treats to take home! Wow. Wow. Wow. Do you ever have a dish and think about it the day after and then a week after that? Doesn't happen for me often but it happened here Came here with my husband for his birthday dinner. I had medium expectations since I've been hearing good things about this spot. The only downside is that we waited about 20 min for our reservation but we ordered a cocktail while waiting. I got something called swamp water and while it was tasty it was $27 so I was starting to be sus but then the food changed the mood We started with pickled shrimp, fluke and skate and all were INCREDIBLE. That pickled shrimp; I need it once a week thank you. Everything had a great flavor, good cook and fresh. The sea urchin tho wasn't as umami as I would prefer it so I'd skip that if you had to pick. Then we got the sea bass and rabbit. I'm not a rabbit person but my husband said it was delish. But that sea bass blew my mind. The flavors, the crispness of the skin but succulence of the fish. The mussels chowder with the pork belly and those beans. I will crave this dish for awhile now til I have it again. Dessert was decent but nothing wow'd me. A couple of weeks ago I happened upon a reservation for My Loup for that very night, so I snagged it for 530 on a Friday. I, of course, had been wanting to try My Loup ever since it opened so 530 was more than fine with me. I grabbed my friend and after arriving, ordering delicious cocktails, and looking over the menu we opted for the chef's tasting for $125. It was a great decision. The beautiful food kept arriving and it took all of the decision making away so we could just enjoy. The food, all of it, was delicious. Truly. First dinner in Philly while I was visiting the city a few weeks ago and I had an incredible time! Saw My Loup mentioned as a place to go while doing research about eateries walkable from my Airbnb near Chinatown and everything truly lived up to the hype. I started with the amaretto sour, which was strong but very smooth. I mentioned I loved seafood and raw fish, so the first dishes I tried were the sweet potato + sea urchin and the pickled shrimp. The sea urchin mousse was so creamy and sweet; the pickled shrimp was wonderfully tangy atop a spread of aioli and contrasted super well with the crunchy saltines & the aromatic basil. Next came a main of roast pork and celery with perfectly crispy fries, as well as amazing single diner portions of the pastrami beef tartare (astride a latke!) and a couple of creamy broccoli clams casino. By this point I was stuffed, but I was still able to end my meal with the wonderful citrus trifle and citrus paloma! I had dinner at My Loup this past Friday night. What a treat. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I was solo dining so I had a seat at the bar. It looks tiny, but it's long. But it is small and intimate and still very comfortable.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] According to their description on Resy, their menu is "French Canadian with a lighter touch." I wanted everything on the menu. Luckily, their staff are wonderful, and the bartender (I wish I could remember her name) made me recommendations on how best to tackle their current menu as a solo diner (I didn't want to over-order but I didn't want to get just one entree and then not be able to try anything from the rest of the menu!). Without her help, I probably would have ordered two dishes, but she walked me through the sizes of the dishes and I was able to try three. I started with their very popular Pickled Shrimp with aioli and saltines. When it came to the table, I was informed to think of it like a Lunchable: grab a saltine, spread on some of their aioli, and the add a shrimp and some basil from the jar. It was a fun and delicious. A great starter. Then I had their chilled courgette (zucchini) soup with a salad of chilled lobster and two fried zucchini blossoms. This isn't a dish I necessarily have ordered without the bartender recommending it, and I'm so glad she recommended it. It was one of the best dishes I've this year. My last course was their soft shell crab with tomatoes, which was good, too. I had a couple of glasses of wine (one orange and one sparkling). I also chatted with women sitting on either side of me at the bar; good food makes people happy and chatty (so does good wine and creative cocktails). I have now done regular dining and larger group dining at My Loup and am so glad that the food and service remain consistently good regardless of party size. My Loup is excellent for a date nights and special occasions. It is almost like an easier starting point if you want to try Her Place but can't get a table and have hesitations about a fully pre-set menu. The caviar on chicharon is a great example of pairing high end caviar with crunchy and salty comfort food. Had several other dishes and a phenomenal cocktail but didn't stop eating my escargot roll after I got it and was too distracted to take more photos. A friend made reservations here based on advice from another friend. As the menu changes weekly and it's been noted that they have few vegetarian options, I reviewed the menu in advance and then called the restaurant to see if they could make one of the dishes without one of the ingredients. The answer was yes, so I was all set. When I ordered the entree that I had discussed in advance, I was told they couldn't make that. Ok. I ended up having a couple of other smaller plates which were really delicious even though they left me hungry. Cozy place! My Loup is a French restaurant that features classics with a modern twist. The presumption that French food is laden with cream and butter is debunked here. We enjoyed our dinner family-style. * Pickled Shrimp - unique flavors. Be sure to place the shrimp atop the saltine cracker for added texture! * Extra Sour Sourdough Bread - it's all in the name...fresh baked and it was indeed sour but not overly so * Cold Roast Beef - cold-cuts this is not! Tender lean meat sliced thin and served chilled * Green Garlic Esca-roll - the puff pastry added nice balance * Halibut - tender and amazing with the smoked butter accoutrement (light and flavorful) * Roast Half Chicken - juicy and ample in size Service was efficient and friendly. And don't you love when restaurants offer complimentary sparking water? If you're unable to land a reservation, then belly up to the bar and enjoy your dinner there! read more

Disappointing. I'm a huge Her Supper fan and had high expectations. What didn't I like? [[HIGHLIGHT]]First it's loud. Way too loud. You can't hear yourself think[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The clientele last night seemed very see-and-be-seen, a little too cool for school.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Our server had a splash of attitude and didn't really know her wines. After hearing all the hype about My Loup over the past year, I finally went to see what this place was about. All I can say is - WOW. Such a a unique menu (most of which was food I had never tried before) and very cozy but trendy vibe inside. The servers were all very kind and knowledgeable about the menu, and our server ultimately pointed us towards some of the most popular (and delicious!) options. The Food: 1) I was a bit skeptical about pickled shrimp on the saltine crackers, but omg this combination was just perfect. 2) osyters were fresh, juicy and came w plenty of toppings. However, I wouldn't say these were super unique to My Loup. 3) the Escar-roll was fantastic! Our server described it as "imagine a cinnamon roll but instead of sugar it's a garlic, green sauce with escargot rolled into fresh dough and covered in butter). We were immediate sold and are so glad we ordered it! 4) the Sablefish covered in potato chips was insane. very rich and perfectly cooked. 5) I didn't get a picture, but we ended the meal with a lemon tart (+ a candle on top for my birthday). It was very citrus forward and creamy, however the tart shell was a bit too hard to cut with a spoon. Overall my experience was 10/10. My Loup is now on my personal list of Philly gems, and I will certainly be returning the next time they change up the menu. read more

Super fancy French food in an intimate, upscale setting. We did a little girls' night dinner out here and shared the croquettes to start. While there was nothing vegetarian on the menu, the kitchen was able to make me a mushroom "risotto" that was pretty good, really creamy, rich, and truffle-y. Service was excellent - attentive and our server explained everything and was able to make adjustments to some items. We also shared the desserts which were for us a standout - the berry pie tart situation and the chocolate fudgey cake. Both were delicious! Recommend My Loup for a night out or date night meal, it definitely feels special. read more

The pork chops were perfectly cooked, and the pickled shrimp was a standout--sensational flavors across the board. I'd been eyeing My Loup for a while after hearing so many rave reviews, and finally got the chance to try it. I've been to Her Place Supper Club (from the same team), and while I loved the ambiance and service there, the food didn't quite stick with me. So I came into My Loup curious, but hopeful. We had reservations at the bar, and our server/bartender was warm and welcoming. We started with the Extra Sour Sourdough served with whipped butter, cornichons, and pearl onions. A simple dish, but it was done really well. The bread had that perfect chew with a satisfying tang. Solid start and definitely something I'd recommend. Next up was the Yellowtail with Carrot and Orange. The flavor combo was bright and citrusy, but the yellowtail itself tasted a bit too fishy for me. The other ingredients tried to balance it out, but it didn't quite land, probably wouldn't order this one again. The Maine Sea Urchin with Sweet Potato and Brioche came beautifully presented in a sea urchin shell. Flavor-wise, it was unique and well-balanced, though I was hoping for a bit more uni for the price. Still, it was interesting enough that I'd order it again. Then came the Pastrami Beef Tartare on Latkes. Cool concept, and the flavors were decent, but as someone who holds beef tartare to a high standard, it didn't quite blow me away. Good, not great. Green Garlic Escar Roll. This dish was highly recommended, so we were curious. It came out looking like a cinnamon roll, literally. We expected something lighter, maybe a puff pastry tart with a garlicky escargot center. Instead, it was doughy and dense, and the escargot inside lacked bold flavor. A creative idea, but the execution didn't quite land for us. But the star of the night? The Bone-In Filet. Served with onions, sherry, and Birchrun Blue, this dish was everything I hoped for and more. Perfectly cooked, meltin your mouth texture, and that rich sauce tied it all together. The onions were a nice touch, and although the blue cheese wasn't totally my flavor profile so I didn't eat the cheese. We also had a side of fries and they were decent, just needed a bit more crunch, but dipping them into the steak sauce? Chef's kiss. We skipped dessert this time, but I'd definitely come back, especially for that filet. Overall: 4 out of 5 stars. Some dishes missed the mark, but the highlights made the visit worthwhile. read more

Excellent. Highly deserving of its accolades and Michelin recognition. Place is a cozy spot in the Rittenhouse area of Philly. Hints of creativity without veering too close to try-hard territory. Food across the board is just notably fresh, very well prepared, and with the right combinations. In many ways, a perfect balance of high-end traditional with the right about of nuanced creativity. Everything we had was good in our family-style dinner... the amberjack crudo, sweatbread skewer, escar-roll and venison tartare were all fantastic starters (especially the escargot plate), with the pork chop, skate and hanger steak all a wonderful way stuff ourselves. Desserts were also very good (although the four of us were already a tad full to truly appreciate them). [[HIGHLIGHT]]Vibe is casual, warm and friendly from the minute you walk through the door.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The final check is reasonable for a higher end table without it being a once-in-a-blue moon treat for anyone who enjoys finer/fine dining. Made a reservation for our group for dinner at 7:30pm last night. Upon arrival, the table was not ready, so we waited, and waited... for about an hour before our table became available. While we waited, we had a couple rounds of drinks. The manager was incredibly apologetic that we had to wait so long and was kind enough to buy us a round. Later, during dinner, the kitchen also sent us some dishes compliments of the chef. After much waiting, we were finally seated. The next 2 hours flew by. Every single dish we ate was bursting with flavor and tasted so balanced. All the ingredients in each dish complemented each other so well. The raw oysters and the raw scallop dish from the menu jumped out at us, so we ordered them. Both tasted so fresh and delicious. The Beef Tongue Muffuletta was served on a focaccia toast - not too much bread, topped with a thinly sliced beef tongue and a briny, vinegary relish with what tasted like chunks of salami. The Philly Balls were just okay. At $5 per ball, they were small. I would recommend skipping it. The Smoked Eel Caesar Salad at $24, did not make sense to our wallets but was given to us on the house. I have to say we were all pleasantly surprised by how amazing this little salad tasted. It was one of our favorite dishes of the night. The Striploin served with fries was another one of our favorites of the night. The steak was tender, and the sauce was absolutely exquisite. We could not get enough of this dish. The fries were good too. The Lamb Shoulder was a very simple dish but was perfectly braised. It paired nicely with all the root vegetables it came with. As for dessert, our table shared a creamy soft-serve from 1-900-ICECREAM with teddy grahams. The perfect ending to a wonderful meal. For someone who loves wine, I had 3 cocktails last night and not a single glass of wine. The cocktails at My Loup were just that good. Pete's espresso martini is the one to get. Overall, we had a great time. The staff went above and beyond to make sure we enjoyed ourselves. And the food and drinks were on point. read more
