My husband and I had an amazing happy hour at The Lesieur recently! Prices were very reasonable for wine and beer, and the bites we had were delicious. The salmon tartare was dressed perfectly and served with a few crispy slices of bread. The onion crepes were soooooo cozy (perfect for a winter night!) and was a fun play on a French onion soup. Based on Tik Tok, the menu and pictures, I wanted to love this place! We ordered the following (all recommended by the waiter as well): 1. Mini Beef Wellington- prosciutto, mushroom, smoked mustard; 2. Onion Crêpes- gruyère, chives, red wine jus; 3. Wagyu Shortrib Bourginon- red wine, pearl onion, carrot; 4. The Cowboy Ribeye (medium); 5. Mac & Cheese; and 6. Apple Pie- salted caramel ice cream. The Oion crepe was good (tasted like French onion soup). I saw someone rave about the mac n cheese, however mine had no seasoning or flavor. It tasted like bland melted cheese over plain pasta. The steak was ok, like any other steak. I did ask for medium and it was medium rare (could see the deep red even in the dim light). I didn't bother sending it back since I knew I'd reheat it the next day and bring it to medium. The menu for The Lesieur (formerly Bar Lesieur) changed just a few days ago. I am sad that they removed the crab spaghetti and crème brûlée from the menu. Those 2 dishes were some of the main reasons I have been a repeat visitor. That being said, the new menu is also good. The porterhouse and 3 sides were enough to feed 2 moderately hungry people. Our steak came out a little bit cold but was still good. Our server was very attentive even though the restaurant was packed due to the Philly marathon. I do hope they add back some pasta options. I like that this restaurant is not too loud so you can still hold conversations at your table without too much difficulty hearing. read more

Time for an update. I need to comment on how good this happy hour is. This Friday I made my way here and met my bestie and my middle daughter here at 4pm. The bar was already filled up, but we managed to snag seats (it gets crowded for a reason). . Kat, the bartender made our experience so very good! I went for a happy hour alone and had a peaceful time. I have found that being by myself, I sometimes get rushed out or neglected but here I felt neither was the case. While I didn't try the wedge, the deconstruction was not what the rest of our group was expecting, nor did they enjoy. For mains: we all got something different. I got the chicken, J got the wagyu short rib, Bets got the filet, and Justin got the salmon. The chicken and salmon were mid. We went for happy hour on our anniversary. It was our first impression and we will definitely return for a full dinner. The ambiance is great. Very dark and moody. The 2 happy hour cocktails were delicious, one much sweeter than the other but good for both preferences. We had 4 happy hour bites and each were a decent size. We split the burger, chicken sandwich, croquettes and fries and were satisfied, not overly full. The chicken sandwich was a little messy with the vegetables falling out, and the croquettes needed something, maybe salt? The fries were a little disappointing, the table next to us called them "McDonalds" fries which was accurate. The dipping sauce was nice though. They brought us a slice of cake with a sparkler for our anniversary, which wasn't the best slice but still a nice touch that we weren't expecting. Mark and I found this place on Yelp. I will start by stating that food and service exceeded our expectations. It's an easy walk from the city hall and surrounding hotels. The entrance is shared with Giuseppe & Sons Restaurant. The dining area is spectacular and transported us to an elegant restaurant in France. We timed our visit for the Happy Hour which is available on Saturdays from 4pm-6pm. One of the best dining and service experiences I've had in a while. A friend and I went for an early dinner during happy hour and restaurant week--a winning combination! This allowed us to try a variety of offerings, including the Onion Crepes, Shrimp Dumplings, Brussels sprouts, and steak frites. My friend and I came here for dinner as he wanted to try a new place. I checked out you Yelper's reviews and was pleasantly surprised and impressed by how good it was here compared to a good number of previous reviews. We hit a good one tonight. The cozy and rather intimate restaurant was dark to the point where I had to use my cell phone flashlight to read the menus. We started off with some cocktails and moved to what was recommended by our waiter for appetizers. We had the onion crepes and shrimp dumplings. Both were outstanding. The onion crepes were like a solid French onion soup with cheese in a light sauce with massive flavor. This was a big hit. The shrimp dumplings were also a big hit of several tasty bite sized morsels also with much flavor. Our mains were very good. I had the Bronzino and my friend was going to do the same but then switched to the duck. Cooked medium, he enjoyed it but said he's had better at other restaurants. I've also had better Bronzino elsewhere, but this single headless and boneless filet was super crispy and tasty. It was just fine. Dessert for me was a chocolate soufflé cake with an excellent accompaniment of a dollop of ice cream(?). Sorbet? Whatever it was, it paired nicely. We also had an espresso and cappuccino. As most of you Yelpers mentioned, service was impeccable. Despite Bar Lesieur being Schulson's newest restaurant, it was just ok. I expected Bar Lesieur to be pushing out dishes more exciting than Schulson's longer standing restaurants, but the dishes on Bar Lesiuer's menu were all very conservative. My husband and I shared some starters and a couple of entrees, including the tuna crudo, the mushroom carpaccio, the veal sweetbreads, the dry-aged duck, and the halibut Just like the tuna crudo at Via Locusta, the tuna crudo at Bar Lesieur had toppings and garnishes that seem random and do not necessarily complement the crudo. The mushroom carpaccio, which we heard good things about was somewhat inventive, and probably my favorite thing I ate that night. Everything else was good but unremarkable. Like all Schulson restaurants, Bar Lesieur is just another safe bet. For dessert, we had the duck crème brulee. Again, it's not super exciting, but a dessert that can't go wrong. I have to say, the service at Bar Lesieur was the most lacking of all the Schulson restaurants. Our server was not attentive at all, which was very frustrating. I would definitely recommend skipping the dinner experience and just having a few cocktails at the bar instead since the cocktails here were pretty good. read more

Discovered this place thanks to restaurant week and am glad I did! My GPS took me to Chestnut St for some reason- but the entrance is on Sansom and shared with Giuseppe and Sons. The place has a very dark and cozy vibe. It would be great for a date night, although it was pretty loud. We had to yell across the table for most of the evening. The food was delicious! We ordered the mushroom ravioli appetizer, cauliflower gratin side dish, caesar salad, beet salad, branzino, crab pasta, and chicken entree. All of us were super pleased with our dishes. The portions were generous, too- we were stuffed. For dessert, we got the creme brulee. It was yummy, but the top was a bit too torched and it ended up having a burnt bitter taste unfortunately. The service wasn't stellar. Our server was nice, but didn't seem super knowledgeable about the menu. The service was also quite slow throughout our meal. We were there for over 2 hours, even though we were only 4 people. Overall, this is a pretty solid addition to the Philly food scene. We really loved our food! Everything tasted amazing. The service was very attentive. One thing we noticed is that they placed the menus on top of your plate, and silverware when seating us, from a hygiene perspective that grossed us out a bit as menus pass through so many hands. The decor was very cute and felt like we were in a thriving speakeasy tucked in. I will say it was nearly impossible to find, no sign out side and no one answered the phone when we called to ask for directions. It was also very loud but it was quite busy. Went to Bar Lesieur for drinks but decided to get a few food items. The bar area is nice and cozy. I love good service but too much service can be overwhelming. I don't think the servers knew who was checking on us so we got a lot of visits asking how we were doing, coming to take our drink orders more than once. I appreciate the checking in but it became a bit distracting. We started with drinks. I had the Sante Spritz and my friends had the Burlesque Martini (forgot to get a pic) and the Parisian Breakfast. I didn't enjoy my drink at all. It tasted like water with alcohol...pretty much no flavor. The martini was tasty but a bit sweet. We then ordered and shared the Mushroom Tart, Tuna Crudo, Brandade Tortellini and Fries. All of the food was really good. I especially loved the crudo. The tuna was fresh and the citrus slices gave a nice tangy punch. The tart on the mushroom tart was nice and crunchy and paired well with the mushroom topping. And the tortellini was light and very flavorful. We weren't that hungry when we went so these dishes were perfect as they weren't very heavy yet filling. After happy hour we ran over here. There was a long line but we got in eventually. First time trying sweet bread. This was veal. The texture was very crispy. I don't know how to describe the taste. From what I could tell there's no bread in it. My wife got Chocolate "Soufflé" and it was very different. Almost salty. Not what I would consider a desert but I have never been to France. The bar shares a location with Giuseppe's so it's hard to miss if driving by. There's a close enough parking garage but we elected to valet and walk over. The ambiance is very vibey. It gives speakeasy hideaway with dim lighting. The food and drinks were scrumptious. We ordered from the happy hour and dinner menus. We selected two fish entrees, pasta, and three sides (served family style), and appetizers. Everything was enjoyable. For the most part the wait staff was attentive. All were very nice. What made it worse was the lack of acknowledgment--I was completely ignored while at least five people who arrived after me were served. Tried this relatively new spot for dinner recently. It is located inside the same entrance as Giuseppe & Sons, but you just turn right instead of going down the stairs. The ambiance of the restaurant was very elevated (someone immediately offered to coat checked our coats, the lighting was appropriately dim, decorations were quite regal). The dinner started off with a selection of 3 different types of bread which were freshly cut from loaves on a nearby bread table. It was kind of a lot of bread to start your meal, but I'm not complaining because I enjoyed them all! The waiter suggested a combination of small plates, entrees and sides. I would suggest you decrease the number of plates that are recommended by 1-2 (what we did) as that amount of food would have been excessive. All the courses were light, well cooked and bold with flavors. The cod was extremely moist. Overall, I enjoyed my meal. Standouts: the heritage farm roasted chicken was insanely flavorful with a nice sear on the outside and was super juicy, scallops were fat, tender and just cooked through. Crab spaghetti was a hit. Dessert: dense chocolate cake was really rich and almost too much for me, but the crème brûlée more than made up for it. Was visiting Philadelphia and found this place because of Yelp (thanks, Yelpers!). I had a terrific meal and great drinks. Like others commented, I didn't find the menu adventurous, but that's not why I go to a French restaurant: for adventure. I go for high quality food that is well prepared and beautifully presented. I happened to be in town on the night of the 2024 Presidential debate, so the restaurant was maybe 1/3 full -- likely because folks were scared to come downtown due to the road closures. With it being slightly empty, I did find that I had to wait a long time to get anyone's attention to get seated. Having done service, I know that sometimes, it's the lull in the energy that makes everyone slightly lethargic. And, once I was seated, the service was TOP NOTCH. TO THE OWNER and MANAGER - your staff like and respect each other. I was dining alone and was seated next to the kitchen window. The man running the kitchen was SO RESPECTFUL of the people working in the kitchen. And the runners and waitstaff were all respectful of him and of each other. It was worth remarking on that you have some kind of community going on that is worth your investment to try to keep. You don't want turnover when things are clicking like that. read more

The beef tartare was also good but definitely heavy on the salt. The chicken sandwich and the mac and cheese were my favorite. I was pretty disappointed with the crème brûlée because everyone raves about it but I've definitely had better. I think the consistency of the custard was just too liquidy and a bit too salty for my liking. Lastly, the service and ambiance were amazing. Our waiter was super attentive and patient, and the interior decorations make you feel like you are at a very upscale restaurant for not super upscale prices! The beef tartare was not as finely minced as I would have liked it and a bit on the chewier side, but still good.
