My Father's BBQ is amazing!!! First had the food at a Chargers game. We fell in love with it. I realized it was right across the street from my school and we go there once a week. Everything taste great the barbecue sauce is tangy with the perfect amount of spice. They support UTLA and the teachers of Towne Avenue. Chicken salad was donated on the first day to all our teachers and the food keeps showing up three days in a row now. My fist time at MY Fathers BBQ in Carson and I must say Megan our server is the sweetest person ever. We had a few hiccups but they refunded my meal and gave me another one. If I could give this place zero stars I would!!!! Where do I start?!? 1st I go in and the girl at the register starts off with if you want ribs or rib tips it's going to be an hr wait because we're cooking them now and it's going to be a hr before they're done, you don't have to sit here, we can call you when it's ready. I said why do you look like you're about to tell me something that's going to make me more upset than I already am. My first initial time here I spent $150 and the food was well worth it!! Fresh, moist, and filling so we decided to come back again today to celebrate my birthday. Unfortunately I am not happy and actually regret spending $80 here tonight!!! All the meat was hard and semi burnt, the bread was rough to chew,the Mac and cheese side was bland and over cooked, the black eyed peas didn't have rice for the second time and when I placed my phone order I specifically said black eyed peas over rice 3x and not once did the girl let me know they were out of rice or I would have gotten a different side so now I am not satisfied. I am not sure how this place stays in business. Seriously. Their so called pulled pork sandwich is so dry, I had to choke it down. Adding some of their apparently store bought and doctored sauce did not help. The cole slaw wasn't horrible, but not worth the price of the entire meal. Full disclosure, I purchased the plate at an event called Pitch and Pale at Stub Hub, so I didn't go to the restaurant. And I never will. We both went silent and we near shed a tear for some tender, fall-apart-in-your-mouth brisket. I got mild sauce and he got hot -- the mild sauce was very sweet and smokey, and the hot tasted similar but with a cayenne pepper kick -- it wasn't spicy to the point of not being able to taste anything else, but spicy enough to know the pepper was there without sacrificing the flavor. Wow! I enjoyed my dining experience today. I decided to go with the beef ribs and fries. Good food and such friendly staff.

Went there tonight around 7pm. They were out of beef ribs, black eyed peas, potato salad, seasoned fries and corn bread. I started to then order the loaded baked potato, the Asian woman behind the counter says, rudely..."well since I already told you we're out of potato salad, we wouldn't have baked potato" Fyi lady....potato salad is made with other ingredients, it's possible there is no potato salad made or maybe your out of those other ingredients, that doesn't automatically mean you don't have potatoes! Rude! We saw the man next to me at the other register was getting a refund, so we left! Good luck with your business, we won't be back though. The customer service was just decent, nothing special. Everyone appeared to be inexperienced and no one was there to direct them. Do not have to use the bathroom, because they got a cheap folding wall that you see in Chinese restaurants in a BBQ spot, (please get rid of that dirty nasty looking thing) blocking the toilet from the commoners. About 5 people walked in and mustve known someone there, because they kept going behind that thing and there was a bunch of loud talking. The food, YUCK, dont order medium or spicy, because it is nothing but black pepper used to go from one degree to the next. Have a glass of water next to you, because the BBQ beans, full of pepper, the cole slaw, YES! the dang cole slaw was full of pepper. It was so peppery, I think these fools put pepper in the yams, because they were peppery. Now here is the kicker, they ran out of corn, ran out of baby back ribs, ran out of greens, ran out of....I was like, stop telling me what you dont have and try telling me what you do have. They have been in this spot for 3 years and they conduct business like they started yesterday. You can go if you want to and dont listen to me, because $35 later, I would want my money back. Have only been here once but I have to say it was very good. I lived in the south for a while so I've had this type of food many times. I had the brisket sandwich and baked beans for a little over $9 w/ tax. The meat was extremely tender, juicy, flavorful and they weren't stingy with the amount. In addition, there was cole-slaw piled on top. I had my sauce on the side which I think I'd do again, especially if you're getting it to-go. What really made this sandwich great was the use of Texas Toast as the medium for holding all of this goodness together. Great touch! Next, on to the baked beans. I ordered these as the side because this dish should be deep in the wheelhouse of any BBQ joint.... and it was. If all you've ever had is canned baked beans then trash that memory and start anew. The sauce was just the right consistency and very flavorful. Bad baked bean sauce is either mushy, thin, and flavorless (think canned) or thick and way too sweet. I've been here several times during lunch. Usually order online and food is ready within 15 minutes. Their pricing is comparable to any typical BBQ joint. I usually get the BBQ Pork Ribs lunch combo with 2 sides. The Potato Salad and Mac n Cheese is bomb! The ribs are cooked the way I like em' with the smoky flavor to it. The socket to me cake was also burnt on the bottom, not the best . For five dollars a slice it should have been much better. We pulled up at 8:02 pm (they closed at 8) and asked if we could still place an order...With welcoming arms, the owner, walked us right in and they took our order. Tasty Food! We ordered ribs, chicken and links...All seasoned well and cooked just right...I'm picky on my BBQ sauce too and even the BBQ sauce was great! Now for DESSERT....I tried the Pear Cobbler (which they recommended)...I'll just say YUMMY. I personally know the cake baker, Ms. Laverne and I can say she is one of the BEST cake bakers I've ever had the pleasure of eating!!! I ordered a 3 meat combo and a extra side of tips ( rib tips, pork ribs, and beef links ) the bbq sauce was watered down, the rib tips were fat and bones no meat at all, the pork ribs were burnt and hard and the sides were nasty as hell the baked beans were cracked and hard, the potato salad was mush and had the nerve to have some imitation bacon bits in it and the mac and cheese had so many unknown particles in it it look like it fell on the floor. I placed a catering order for my office of about 50 people and it was a huge hit! We ordered catering trays of green salad, potato salad, corn on the cob, BBQ chicken, Chicken links, and corn bread. There was a problem in the morning when I went to go pick up my food at the scheduled time it wasn't ready. But Shalamar was so apologetic and discounted my order. I had time to wait so I sat there while they finished up. I could tell they were rushing trying to get my order complete. The employees loaded my car up with all the catering trays and sides of BBQ sauce and salad dressing. Everything tasted delicious. The potato salad was amazing! The salad was gone so quickly. The corn bread was a bit dry, but the flavor was good. Throughout the whole process everyone was so helpful. I had never eaten here before and all the girls who helped my on the phone were so nice and willing to take the time to help me plan my order. This is a small family owned place that's very popular. I didn't eat in so I can't comment on the wait time for food, but it definitely seems worth it.
