I recently purchased 2.6 gallons of propane and was charged a $4.95 Hazardous Materials Charge. When asked the cashier responded, "this company charges a flat rate standard charge for propane refills". I have been a customer of Western Propane Services for many years. They never charged a Hazardous Materials charge for propane refills. To be clear, I didn't dispose of anything. I brought in my 20 gallon tank for a refill. I highly recommend going elsewhere as this makes the price of propane much higher than it should be. I paid $16.69 for 2.6 gallons of propane. Approximately $6.42 per gallon with their BS fee added. They are also closed on the weekends now. Go elsewhere. U-haul at 7422 Garden Grove Blvd is 1 minute away. They do not charge a Hazardous Materials fee and are competitively priced.

He was friendly but by this time there were a few people waiting. I already made a reservation so he was able to pull up my information. I then used a QR code to upload a pic of my driver's license. He gave me the keys and then walked me to the back. He had to drive it out of the back lot because it was tightly fit into a spot in the back. That was nice because I know I wouldn't have been able to get out. It was a good experience and he was helpful but a little late.

At two minutes before closing, I received a call informing me that the trailer I had reserved was in repair and unavailable. I called back, waited on hold for nearly 30 minutes, and was then told the nearest available trailer wasn't six miles away as originally stated, but actually 14 miles away, one way. What I find most frustrating is that no effort was made to make things right. If the trailer was only a few miles away, why not transport it to the location where I had reserved it? Instead, I was expected to absorb the extra time, fuel, and inconvenience caused by a problem that wasn't mine. It sends the message that the company's time matters, but the customer's does not. Good customer service would have been finding a way to minimize the inconvenience to the customer, not shifting it to them minutes before closing. Very disappointing.

That said, you have a lot of Shell stations that take advantage of people who are in a hurry and don't want to shop for the best place to fill their tanks. The key is to find a station that gives Shell Credit Card owners the same as cash price. Then if you have Fuel Rewards, you get another discount. You can save a lot that way. Most just rip you off and charge you the credit price even though they don't get that ding passed on to them when a Shell Credit Card is used. They just charge you more because they can. A classic example is the Campus Shell location on 1201 East Baker St. in Costa Mesa. Don't go there. They rip you off with this method. They used to give the discount but the new ownership has eliminated that perk. On the flip side, you have this great location that does give you the discount. Why waste the money when you don't have to? I give this place two big thumbs up. Keep up with the honest way of doing business and your location will stay loaded with cars at every pump like it was on Sunday afternoon 2/18/18.

It is right on the corner of a major intersection less than a block from the 5 freeway, meaning you can pull in, get gas, and jump back on the road fairly easily. As you can see by the photo they've had some recent issues like the pump tower falling over (hopefully nobody was under there) but otherwise things seem to work just fine. Prices are not low but not super high either; while this is no ARCO you should expect to pay a bit more for a place right by the freeway. Sometimes you pay for convenience. Though if you've signed up to be a Ralphs Club member you can get a 10-to-20 cent discount per gallon here. Service-wise, I would probably give this place a miss, though I can't say much about it since I haven't used anything there. The "food mart" is one of those super-small adjacent-to-a-workshop type places, that doesn't have much in the way of refreshment. I think they also do smog checks and other maintenance work on vehicles there. Other than that, you might be approached by the occasional panhandler since it is not located in the best of areas. They seem to generally be on top of that however. There are usually decent condition squeegees available for window cleaning as well.

While I was able to refuel the vehicle I think the amount of open space made me feel like a prey animal with nowhere to hide and thus made me more nervous being there.

After several attempts to find a dehumidifier elsewhere, we give up for the night and start setting up fans (not very helpful - especially when you can't open the windows in the rain), and eventually I see I have a missed call and voicemail. Ken, from plumbing dept, called me back after locating the last dehumidifier in the store that was placed in a different spot than normal. Sounds silly to be so excited and grateful for a dehumidifier, but that VM was the relieving thing to hear. I called back and caught Ken right before he left for lunch and he was so kind to go pull the unit for me and have it taken to customer service before his break! I truly appreciate his customer service! He went above and beyond, not knowing the situation and just being a helpful person. I never would have expected a call back for a stock check, but tonight Ken was more helpful than he will ever know! I hope he gets recognized properly for his help.
