Super cute and tasty Japanese food stall! This quiet little booth can easily get lost in the chaos of the Jean-Talon Market, but it's a wonderful little hidden gem. The owner is incredibly sweet, and they have a lovely variety of onigiri and dango. I got their découverte combo, which comes with 2 onigiri and 1 dango mochi. I settled on the ajitama (soft boiled egg) and salmon, both of which were delightful -- the salmon was super tender and had just a touch of Japanese mayo, which helped to make it even more moist while adding a hint of sweetness, acidity, and salt. The ajitama had a gorgeous jammy yolk and packed a huge punch of umami flavor. Both had a solid ratio of filling to rice, and it was quite a flavorful, filling $15 portion, but not so filling that it would prevent you from trying other things in the market. My only potential critique is that the soy sauce glaze they use on top is quite salty; it's delicious, but it makes the first bite extremely salty and the rest of the onigiri a tiny bit bland.
The dango was also delicious -- super fresh, chewy, springy mochi with a lovely earthiness from the mugwort. I loved the red bean, and it was a delightful sweet treat to round out the combo. read more
