This is an intimate, neon-lit space that offers Japanese comfort food (ie. karaage & tsukemono, which are great) as well as riffs on traditional items like a mazemen with burrata. We enjoyed this place so much on our recent visit that we actually went twice in less than one week. Indulging in a highball or three while snacking on a glorious mix of noodles, sushi+sashimi, burgers, pickles and pudding was really enjoyable. Service was relaxed and nice, this is definitely a place you go to when you have time to kick back and just enjoy. Unfortunately it looks like the burrata mazemen is off the menu now because it's a must-order, but the spicy ikura mazemen was good too. I'd bet any of the mazemen would be a solid choice. If you want to relive your memories of going to a Japanese convenience store to get some Ohayo purin, this is the place. It may sound rude to compare a restaurant's pudding to a Japanese convenience store but I assure you it's one of the highest honours you can bequeath onto a pudding dish. I also highly recommend the karaage as it was fried so well. My only complaint is that the lighting makes photography pretty hard. But we have to remember that the point of dining out is not to take pretty photos -- it's to have a great meal with friendly service and friendly patrons, and Otto definitely offers this.

Wow. When I think of this restaurant, I think of fresh, tasty, people who appreciate good food. The deluxe bowl was amazing. The wagyu beef was chewy. Both tuna were soft and so so fresh. The sea urchin was also very fresh and very tasty. The presentation was also on point. So pretty to look at! I so highly recommend this restaurant.

I'd randomly spotted Otto Bistro a few weeks ago while walking along Mont Royal and made a mental note to check it out. Their sister restaurant, Otto Yakitori Izakaya, is fantastic so I was hoping for the same level at Bistro Otto. They specialize in larger plates. We dropped in on a Wednesday evening (around 7:00pm) and it was empty. The inside is beautifully decorated and quaint with a mix of tables, high tables and bar seats. There's about 32 seats. There was a special and regular/drink menu. The main menu is split into soups, salads, appetizers, main plates and desserts. - Kalso salad ($8.00) - 5 types of seaweed, thin sliced cabbage, sea bacon and ponzu. Beautiful presentation and interesting mix of textures. The cabbage was great. - Arctic char tartare ($16.00) - scallions, shallots, leaves, beated poached egg and beet chips. This seemed more like poke than a tartare to me but the arctic char was fresh and well balanced. It had a great citrusy sauce. The "leaves" on top tasted similar to alfalfa sprouts. - Spicy ikuramen ($20.00) - salmon roe, spicy ramen noodles, tofu, coriander, fried shallots, sansho peppers and sesame. Way overpriced for a bowl of ramen but the noodles had a pleasant bite and the spice level was absolutely perfect. We didn't realize it was a soupless ramen but that made it easier to share. However, the bowl was missing something. It didn't have enough substance to it. The salmon roe won't fill you up. Good quality but a bit too steep for my blood. Can't justify paying $20.00 for ramen ($24.00 for their most popular uni mazesoba dish)! 3.5 stars.

Small little shop on Mont-Royal that you can come visit. Cozy atmosphere, the waitress was nice and explained everything on the menu thoroughly. The food was excellent. They change their menu regularly so don't hesitate to consult their Facebook page to look at the available dishes.

I usually look for the best ramen places I can find whenever I go to a new city, and this was Montreal's finest! The uni & bone marrow noodles, and the duck confit noodles were heavy, decadent, rich, and amazing. The octopus carpaccio was also incredibly delicious. By far the best meal I had in Montreal.

4 on 5 for Otto bistro Japonais. This was a last minute pick on our way to a concert. The menu has a good deal of variety with some classic favorites with a twist. We tried the fried tofu which was the most memorable disH of the night. The tofu was homemade and honestly we will be back for that fish. The octuors carpaccio was fresh and well seasoned. The Ramen was good and the duck mazemen is highly recommended . The drinks is a must, we had a tequila and Yuzu cocktail. If your out and about, worth chilli here and nice place for a date.

One of my favorite restaurant in Montreal! Their uni bone marrow mazesoba was unique and delicious. The combination of uni and bone marrow with ramen noodle was perfect; they melted in my mouth. Their kaisendon was so fresh as well! Not only their food is good, I love their interior design and atmosphere. Definitely coming back again to try other dishes!

Bistro Otto has been on my list fir a while and last weekend I finally went w a group of friends for dinner It was a lot smaller than I imagined, from seeing the pictures online. But that's a good thing. It had an intimate feel but not too small that would make you feel like you cannot move around comfortably. The staff greeted us warmly, they were friendly and helpful. The kitchen is opened so you can see the all action. We took a bottle of wine to start and then proceeded to ordering the sashimi, octopus carpaccio, aubergine, chicken karaage and a duck ramen to share. He sashimi was so fresh and yummy. The octopus was perfectly seasoned with a kick of hot chili. The chicken karaage was crispy and juicy without a thick batter. The duck ramen was hearty. And the aubergine? It was so good we ordered another plate! I definitely recommend this restaurant and I'd love to come back to try other things. P.S: the lighting was terrible for food pics, i apologize for the neon purple hue

Personally, I will still go to the st Mathieu one instead of this one , they do have skewer and environment is better than this one . Tasted today , so so and food so slow , waiter so lost , I mean they r nice persons , all very kind , but just don't really pay attention to client's need , I have to raise my hand for maybe 5 mins or 5 times then they realize me when it's not too busy. Spend 400 for 5 person and I just eat a little maybe we drink more . Sry been lazy to took pics but the dessert ,

It's a cute new restaurant on Mont-Royal with a nice decor and atmosphere. Yet, I had very high hopes for this place, I was excited to try real authentic Japanese food. I've had ramen noodles with a duck leg and it was just okay. To be honest, I found their variety pretty limited and prices quite high for the portions they offer. That being said, it's a solid 3 stars and could be a good choice if you give it another chance.

    Sashimi platter

Otto Bistro is run by the same team as Otto Yakitori in downtown Montréal. This bistro offers sashimi plates as well as Japanese dishes that are less traditional. I had the uni and bone marrow pasta: simply decadent! They offer alcohol imported from Japan. I feel that it is a bit overpriced but it was still good nonetheless.

Even during peak summer season the restaurant was crowded and even had a line starting to form at peak lunch hour. There are not very many large tables so don't expect a large group to be sitting together. The menu is pretty straightforward with the typical miso, tonkotsu, and shoyu broths. But they even have a tomato broth with Hokato scallops for those more adventurous. We ordered the Tonkotsu Black $19 & the Tonkotsu+ $19. Is it pricey for Ramen? Yes. But was it worth it? Yes. The Tonkotsu Black had a rich broth with prominent garlic oil. The Tonkotsu+ was really the show stopper. With 3 different styles of meat: Smoked pork pastrami, meatballs & chashu. The truffle oil was fragrant and earthy. But the biggest surprise was shiitake mushrooms. They were marinated/seasoned to perfection, with a hint of sweetness. I would've been happy with just a giant bowl of shiitake mushrooms, and truffle oil. The broth was much lighter and delicate than the Tonkotsu Black, yet strong on the truffle. If you're not really a fan of truffle, do not get this. We were tempted to go back again, but we opted to try other restaurants around the downtown area. 10/10 Would go back again! The staff are very friendly and quick. Give it a try! They have multiple locations, especially if you're looking for something new, yet comforting.

The daily specials are posted on their Instagram page, as well as written on pieces of paper around the restaurant. My server quickly helped me to water and a glass of sake. I placed a to go order for one of the daily specials, the grilled sea bass with sushi rice and salad, with some kimchi. I also ordered the BBQ chicken with tortilla and salad, as well as vegetable gyoza. Everything was incredible. Truly. The gyoza came topped with green onions and was SO crispy and hot and was perfect with their soy sauce. I thought sea bass was wonderful with a unique almost smoky flavor that melted in my mouth paired with the slightly sweet sticky rice. The barbecue chicken was great as well and better the next day. One thing I don't really understand is why they served plain flour tortillas cut into quarters with their food. We didn't utilize this, nor the white butter/mayo sauce that came alongside it. Once seated, things happen very quickly...it is go, go, go (in the best possible way.) Green beans were everyone's fave, but I have to mention the (pickled?) vegetables on the salad. So flavourful! Also tried the egg drop soup which is so tasty. Mains were the salmon tuna bowl, the beef short ribs, the shrimp burger, and 48 hour pork with curry sauce. Everything was wonderful! Finished with their soft serve ice cream, I had the cherry blossom but one of us had the sake, which is a shot of sake poured on top. Amazing! You can even have wasabi or ginger...
