    Large seafood platter
    Julie C.

I went in for lunch with my work colleagues and the atmosphere was very casual and quiet so I didn't know what to expect. However, I did my research prior to going and knew that Nozy had great reviews and a promising menu. They definitely did not disappoint! In fact, I was so pleasantly surprised and satisfied with my experience. Nozy is definitely in my top 3 for fresh sashimi and comforting Japanese food in Montreal now. We had the large seafood platter which was priced around $100 and I thought was the most generous and fresh seafood platter I've ordered in a very long time. It came with a generous amount of sashimi to satisfy a group of 4 (and we were hungry!) Afterwards, we each took a 'main'. I had the karaage salad which was absolutely delicious (and only $15 for the salad and miso soup - which was also incredible, I still think about it sometimes). My colleague took the beef curry which was also extremely tasty and another colleague took the grilled octopus and cauliflower which also looked great! ( i didn't taste the octopus as I was so full). We also got some wine (they pour some cool natural wines by the glass) and sake. Honestly the food for the value was some of the best I've had in Montréal -- especially for fresh sashimi and seafood! I am looking forward to returning to Nozy once restrictions lift - I can't wait to try everything on their menu and reorder that seafood platter Overall: 5 Food: 5 Value: 5 Service: 5 Ambiance: 4

Top : Pork katsu with japanese curry Bottom : Saba sando

Had a wonderful take-out lunch at Nozy today. The Saba sando is a mackerel sandsich with a potato croquette and mayo/teriyaki sauce. It was fantastic to eat. Also ordered a japanese curry, it was standard, a good choice to eat, but not exceptionnally wow. I highly recommend if you are visiting Atwater market and in need of a lunch spot close by.

    Large Sashimi Seafood Platter

A Saturday evening dinner at Restaurant Nozy. On the menu: * Large Sashimi Seafood Platter (Chef's selection of sashimi, oysters, shrimp, uni, scallops) * Take Kago (Chef's selection; of a set of 5 dishes) The sashimi seafood platter is deliciously fresh and massive, which makes it perfect for sharing with up to three people. I never get tired of the Take Kago, because the selection of dishes in this set is constantly changing (Karaage is being the permanent staple of this set, and it's always perfectly crispy on the outside and juicy and tender on the inside). The restaurant is also open for brunch on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Instagram: @restaurant_nozy

    The Uni toro don
    Cecile X.

Very disappointed! I used to come here a lot, and their uni toro don was my favourite dish. Today is my first visit to this restaurant after the pandemic. I went there with high expectations; however, the quality of food went down. I ordered sashimis assortis, pork tonkatsu, miso soup and the uni toro don. The miso soup and tonkatsu were ok, and everything else was terrible. Uni toro don -- The portion of the dish shrinks. The Uni toro don used to come with a miso soup and a salad. Now they all disappeared. The tuna toro was cut in thick and large pieces; now, it's very thin and small. Plus, it tastes horrible!!!! It's NOT toro at all (Check the pictures I uploaded, you will see the huge difference!!) I don't even think this is a qualified average tuna. Besides, they used to use a ceramic bowl for the don. Now they changed it to a cheap plastic bow. I don't think a dish that costs 38 bucks should be presented this way. The flavour, portion and presentation -- totally not worth 38 bucks!!! Sashimis assorties -- It comes with five different kinds of fish. The salmon and tuna in it were sooooo bad. The salmon was cut into very thin pieces, and it tasted cheap. Even worse than the one sushi shop sells. The tuna is like being cut by a person who doesn't know how to cook. They were all in random shapes... Plus, the waitress only wore her mask when she serves. Whenever she returned to the cashier, she took off her mask!!! I think this is quite unprofessional. 2 stars for the pork tonkatsu and miso soup.

The very first time I visited Japan, I knew it wasn't going to be my last. Just a few years ago, I remember finding a deal online which allowed me to leave the city and completely reconnect with myself. I felt lost and knew that I had to pack my stuff and go on a solo trip. Japan and Vietnam was my home for 5 weeks. This trip allowed me to truly reflect and ask myself: What do you truly value and makes you feel the most fulfilled? Few things stood out while I was in Japan: - RESPECT your planet and environment. Nobody littered. That's right, you either had hold your trash or dispose it in a convenient store's garbage bin. Next time you go to Japan, notice how there is no bin on the street, yet you don't see any signs of trash. Food for thought. -CONNECT with humans and show that you CARE.Although there was an extremely big language barrier, no matter how lost I was, people were willing to help me. I remember a handful of time where I was lost and people were willing to walk with me to my destination. Try to get that in North America. - Put YOUR HEART AND SOUL in every single thing you do in life, out of care and out of pride. I remember coming back from my trip and couldn't stop raving about the food scene in Japan. I never had anything that was bad, everything was either good or excellent. Now that some of you HAVE BEEN to Japan- you know exactly what I am talking about. Why would you want to cut corners and cheap out on ingredients? When you get caught right handed, not only do you risk losing your reputation but you also risk losing people's trust and your business. So ask yourself why you would even want to half ass something? When you take your time to do something, go full force or stay in your own lane. Thank you Nozy for allowing me to have the TRUE experience of what real Japanese food should be. Japanese cuisine isn't about those fancy creation and crazy sauce. Spare me the pain and don't serve me that kind of food. On top of that, don't you dare tell me you're eating sushi. Authentic Japanese food is about finding the simplicity in food and finding quality ingredients. Some so called "Japanese restaurants" in Montreal have all this fame and feel like they have to right to charge you a ridiculous hefty price and for what? For the scene and status? No thanks. You know who truly deserves recognition? Nozomu Takeuchi. A humble man that will stay true to his culture. Come to Nozy and let me show you what true Japanese cuisine is. Nozomu, you deserve a golden star.

If you want top quality sashimi at a reasonable price and in an unfussy atmosphere..make a reservation at Nozy! Nozy serves a teishoku style meal meaning little plates. Each main dish comes with a little salad and soup. We decided to order the sashimi platter to share. It had a large variety of fish including Toro, sea urchin, scallops, shrimp, oysters, white tuba, red snapper and himachi. All excellent, really glad we ordered the platter. For mains we took the UniDon, take kago and the tuna/salmon bowl. The take Kago allows you to try different dishes on the menu. It consisted of the karage chicken, salad, soup, eggplant dip and salmon rice bowl. Although every dish was delicious, I think the UniDon is a really unique dish and since it's seasonal you should definitely order it! Dessert was ok nothing special. We tried the matcha creme brulee. It didn't have a strong matcha flavor and it made the cream a grey color, which was a bit unappetizing.

Super unique spot! I had randomly came across this restaurant and became one of my favorite spots for somewhat authentic Japanese food! They always have a specialty of the week and they never fail to impress! Great service, great food!

We went to Nozy for date night and what a lovely choice! It's a very homey-styled restaurant, there aren't many tables. Enough for a few couples and medium sized groups. They often change their menu based on fresh and seasonal ingredients. We ordered the karaage chicken, Toro Tekka Don and Sashimi. It was very delicious and fresh! The waitress was very friendly and came to check on us often. The bill came in a little tin box with rocket candies! A very nice touch! We will be back soon!

My family and I usually visit Montreal every other year. We have done the touristy things before, so this time since it is just my husband and I we decided to just explore the neighbourhood (we usually stay around St.Henri). I read up on Nozy and wanted to give it a try. Having raised in Japan I am constantly craving for good sashimi and sushi. From the outside you cannot tell that this is a Japanese restaurant. I love this neighbourhood because you can find some pretty eclectic and diverse eateries. Inside of Nozy does not scream Japanese restaurant either. Interior is not big at all, and it is simply decorated. We were served by the sweetest waitress. The service was prompt, efficient, and warm. In the end she chatted with us a bit and we really appreciated her friendliness. Now, the food was amazing! My husband and I went here for lunch, probably closer to 1:00pm. They had one table full and we got to pick any table we wanted to sit. I had sashimi lunch, and my husband had toro don. Toro is the fattest part of tuna, and don is referred to rice in a bowl, usually with some sort of sauce accompanied by main protein or veggie. It has been a while since I had good, fresh, and delicious sashimi. Well, guess what? Nozy offered me some awesome sashimi! It was my husband's first time eating toro, and I think he was emotionally moved by how good it was. Nozy will be our go to place whenever we are visiting Montreal.

Went to Nozy for Mother's Day! And trust me... it was wonderful! We decided to try the seafood platter this time. Yes it is pricey but remember that they serve one of the best and freshest seafood/sashimi in town. The scallops were amazing and the toro... just melts in your mouth. Nozy is a definite GEM of Montreal!!! It is a must-try restaurant!

    Eel on rice...

I came to this little place last week. I've always wanted to try it for a while but the location is not convenient for me. And first time I came, they were close for the break. Lucky me, I was around the corner again this time ! Initially i have my heart set on n trying their uni don (sea urchin on rice) but they don't have it due to its not the season. A bit disappointed as this is the thing somewhat differentiate it from other jap restaurants. Anyway, I ordered one of their dish of the day; salmon-toro don. And it was delicious!!! The toro (blue fin tuna) was soooo good. It just melt in your mouth! The salmon is interesting; not the typical salmon we normally we, it's not the orangey color at least. If they didn't say it's salmon, I'm not sure if I would've known. I also ordered the sea urchins appetizer: a lil disappointed for its portion vs price. $18 for 5 tiny pieces, I guess this is what you pay for low season. For desert, I got the green tea ice cream with churros. I think it's okay. My fiancé got the eel don. He said it's okay; taste the same as the frozen one. Regardless, I love my toro and I'll be back for the uni don when it's season again!!!

I was very surprised! Positively! From the outside, it's a rustic deco, it also looks like a dessert place, clean and neat, with the white wooden chairs. We reserved for two, the waitress was really nice, she explained the Japanese menu, teishoku style and the chefs special plates. We were inspired, and ordered: KARAAGE; fried chicken VEGETABLE PANCAKE; Vegetable pancake okonomiyaki style UNI IKURA DON (SEASONAL DISH); Sea urchin, salmon tartar and roe served over rice, with miso soup KAISEN DON; Assorted sashimi, sweet shrimp and quail egg served over rice With a refreshing Kirin beer Finally the food was to die for !!! I would definitively recommend it, and come again. It's definitively my favorite japanese restaurant in montreal.

Even during peak summer season the restaurant was crowded and even had a line starting to form at peak lunch hour. There are not very many large tables so don't expect a large group to be sitting together. The menu is pretty straightforward with the typical miso, tonkotsu, and shoyu broths. But they even have a tomato broth with Hokato scallops for those more adventurous. We ordered the Tonkotsu Black $19 & the Tonkotsu+ $19. Is it pricey for Ramen? Yes. But was it worth it? Yes. The Tonkotsu Black had a rich broth with prominent garlic oil. The Tonkotsu+ was really the show stopper. With 3 different styles of meat: Smoked pork pastrami, meatballs & chashu. The truffle oil was fragrant and earthy. But the biggest surprise was shiitake mushrooms. They were marinated/seasoned to perfection, with a hint of sweetness. I would've been happy with just a giant bowl of shiitake mushrooms, and truffle oil. The broth was much lighter and delicate than the Tonkotsu Black, yet strong on the truffle. If you're not really a fan of truffle, do not get this. We were tempted to go back again, but we opted to try other restaurants around the downtown area. 10/10 Would go back again! The gyoza came topped with green onions and was SO crispy and hot and was perfect with their soy sauce. I thought sea bass was wonderful with a unique almost smoky flavor that melted in my mouth paired with the slightly sweet sticky rice. The barbecue chicken was great as well and better the next day. I stopped by around 8:45 PM, 15 minutes before they closed, but the staff were so kind and lovely, let me dine in, gave me a free drink on the house, and even told me to take my time and not worry about closing. I ordered the spicy garlic pork ramen with thick noodles, and I was blown away with how flavorful the broth and QQ (chewy) the noodles were. I didn't like the pork that much and found it a bit tough and gamey, but they do have two other types of meat (chicken, beef) as well as a vegetarian option available, as well as seasonal menu specials. If I was at McGill, I'd probably visit this spot a bit too often LOL, and I highly recommend checking them out for their comforting ramen bowls and incredibly kind service!

Stopped in for dinner and got the following: - Beer/Sake…read moreCombo: Comes with Original Pork Ramen and a choice of beer or sake. I went with the beer. You also need to decide if you want thick or thin noodles, went with thin. - Original Karaage Simple interior design and layout, either you sit at the tables or the bar. The staff member was very friendly, service was quick and the food came out fast. The Karaage was perfectly fried, seasoned and delicious. However, no dipping sauce is provided, all other joints that I've been to will give you a mayo dipping sauce, not here. The Ramen - noodles were perfectly cooked, however honestly package ramen had a better flavor than their Original pork ramen unfortunately. I had expected this rich and creaminess of the pork broth, that was sticky-lipped intensifying, but it was not. This was disappointing and thus can only give 2 stars. I can't say for other noodle type, but original pork ramen needs a lot of work.
