Japanese speakeasy. Dark and moody vibes behind the curtains. We were seated in the back area facing the bar. Party of two people on a Thursday evening. The place was full. Pros: - food menu options are solid. We ordered the wagyu shot $14 and two shrimp hand rolls $7/pp - cocktail drinks are well balanced - sake du jour carafe $18, nice balance and not to dry served cold Notes: - the music was exceptionally loud - the seating arrangements being so close to the seats next to us, can easily overhear their conversations - friendly service and quick to tend to our table once eye contact is established

This is a really cool place. Nice vibe and very dark. There are two levels. The downstairs level has the bar and several tables and chairs. Totally the lounge type bar. We sat at a corner table. We came in at opening 7pm on Saturday. We had some specialty drinks that are offered. (Yamakase, yuzu honey sour, abe Abe, bunshin, hojo masako, gempei) Our bartender was attentive and checked on us often and he checked on the other customers too. The drinks we had were very interesting with definite Asian flair. This is a great experience for all.

we were super intrigued by the asian flair of the drink menu at gokudo and were excited to visit. we arrived around 7 pm on a friday and waited a short time for a seat. we were eventually seated in the front room, which was comfortable and relaxing. we tried the okame and yamakase (which may not be on the menu anymore). both drinks were yummy and had a great mix of flavors. the food menu also looked intriguing but since we had dinner just before, we didn't get a chance to try anything. prices are super reasonable compared to the bars in nyc. overall a fun place to visit!

This is a dark and sultry Japanese bar. It's perfect for a date or tryst. The cocktail menu is interesting and there's a good selection of sakes and sojus. A bar menu has a few mediocre bites. Service is cute but forgetful. Most people will love Gokudo because it seems like a hidden discovery.

Gokudo has the most amazing drinks and the interior design is so captivating and truly takes you somewhere else. We came hungry and their dinner menu really isn't designed to be a full meal but that's our mistake. So instead we decided Friday night was the type of night to consume 90% of our calories in liquid form. We had a couple of rounds of cocktails and they were all perfect amount of sweet vs sour vs strength. Will definitely return

    Tuna "poke" bowl - DELICIOUS

One of the best bars I've ever been to! Shared a poke don - highly highly recommend, it's a tuna poke bowl with truffle and nori, so much flavor and it blended together so perfectly. Can't stop thinking about it. For drinks got the Okame and the Hojo Masako. I think Hojo Masako is one of my all time favorite cocktails, really really enjoyed it. Highly recommend coming!

Soo good the drinks. And the vibe. Place is rather small tho so can get busy quick.

If you want a unique speakeasy experience this is it! It was kinda hard to find because I did not expect the front to what looks like a closed run down Chinese takeout place. But once inside it transformed into a really cool high end bar! Drinks are amazing and the bartenders really show off their craft. Definitely a place to visit!!

Delicious!!! Perfect balance of sweet, salty, and creamy.

Love this spot! I was lucky to get a seat at the bar when I arrived; there were many others waiting. Drinking alone has its perks! The ambiance is truly special. I loved the noodle shop entrance, and the decor really transports you to another time and place. The drinks were fantastic! Truly excellent cocktails. This isn't one of those trendy places that sells a glass of weird ingredients just to be unique and instagrammable; this is the real deal! Everything I had was perfection in a glass. Service when I visited was extremely slow. I should probably remove a star from my review because I definitely waited 20 minutes to be served to begin with and then another 10 for my drink, but this was clearly due to there only being one bartender. But I wasn't in a hurry, and the drinks were so good that the waiting wasn't horrible. I tried to bring a friend the next night but they were closed (make sure to check their hours before venturing over). I'll be back for sure!

Nice Japanese style pub with great drinks. It's kind of hidden but I'm glad I went and I would return.

    Pressed Sushi (3 pc-$9.95)

Gokudo is hidden behind a black curtain of what appears to be a small Japanese sushi bar. Behind the black curtain is very cool open area with lots of seating room. The decor was on point with the Japanese theme. Down the stairs you'll find the bar area and more seating. I am a fan of the ambiance. It's dark, swanky, and modern. With that being said, the prices reflect the theme and you're looking at an average of $15 per drink. I wouldn't get more than 2-3 drinks here. I'd recommend eating first. I was hungry so I had to order food. My partner and I got the Aburi Pressed Sushi and the Onigiri. I wasn't impressed with either. I actually LOVE onigiri but I didn't like this at all. I took one bite and just gave the rest to my bf. The Aburi Pressed Sushi was good, but not the best I've had. I would say 6/10 That should be saying a lot because everything usually tastes delicious when I'm hungry. I like fruity drinks so I ordered the Shiro which is normally made with a Japanese White Peach Liquor. They didn't have it in stock so it was made with a Grapefruit Liquor instead. It was still great but I would've loved to try the Japanese White Peach Liquor. It came beautifully presented, as were all their drinks. I'm told that the Saigo Takamori was also really good. We were a large group of ~10 people but I think this is also very suitable for small groups of 2-4 as well. It would be a great stop on a date night or if you're just catching up with friends over drinks. Classy night out. *pinky up*

Gokudo was one of the best bars I've been to in Montreal! It was really dark inside, but it was super cool and classy vibes with good tunes and excellent service. It's truly a nice lounge that isn't too loud, and the decor's great! It's actually a pretty big space. The menu has a good listing, and I feel like you can't go wrong with any of their drinks. I honestly can't recall which cocktail I went with, but everything sounds so good that Gokudo's a frequent must if I'm back in town. I also really appreciated that they offer food, especially traditional Japanese snacks.

Cool Japanese speakeasy bar hidden behind curtains. The drinks tasted good and we each had a salmon onigiri and shrimp temaki because we were not too hungry. It was tasty! However, menu is small than expected but atmosphere was great!

You walk in and there's a clothing store on one side and black curtains straight ahead. I just stood there confused for a second until someone suddenly appeared and escorted me through the curtains, down a long dark hallway, and into this intimate, dimly lit bar. Turns out, I had accidentally stumbled into a speakeasy. The space is tiny--maybe 6-8 seats at the bar and a long banquet along the wall for 10-12 more people. No menus either. They ask what you like and don't like, then craft a cocktail specifically for you. The pours are generous and the bar is stocked with top-shelf liquor. About a drink and a half in, I realized I needed actual food immediately and had to leave. The staff was friendly, personable, and chatty, and because the space is so intimate, you naturally end up talking with the people around you. Definitely more of a solo or date-night spot than a group hang. Such a cool, unexpected experience.

I'm a fan of cocktail bars, and after reading up on this spot I made it my intention to check it out. It just so happened that it was a short walk from my hotel, so we decided to check it out one night before heading to dinner. The Cloakroom is a speakeasy, nestled behind a hidden door in a men's clothing shop. In the line of being a speakeasy, the space is small - there are only 24 seats but since we got there right at opening we were seated right away. The space is dark and intimate, with the bottles of liquor lit up behind the bar providing an attractive focal point. One of the more unique features of the bar is that there's no menu; we told our server the types of liquors we wanted along with the flavor notes and they crafted a cocktail based on our tastes. We ultimately had two rounds; my first drink was vodka-based and fruity, while I went with something gin-based and dryer. Both were very good - there's little fanfare with presentation; the bartenders let the drinks speak for themselves. Service was great; due to the setup, each patron is given extra attention which really highlighted the experience. Overall, I really enjoyed my time at The Cloakroom Bar. This was definitely a unique experience with excellent curated drinks. I would definitely return the next time I'm in Montreal.

Being the Montreal Gran Prix weekend, the city exploded with crowds making it difficult to find a place with a patio and seating outside. Determined to succeed we found this place with the last table for two on the patio available. We were thrilled, as this place not only delivered in that department it was highly rated on Yelp. The place was bustling with patrons inside and out, but the service was outstanding with quick delivery of much needed beer with our food shortly there after. Bar Dominion is not just a bar with a long list of cocktails and a few beers, they have a nice selection of seafood and small plates. The menu here is not your typical "bar" food selection, but a selection one would find on a bistro menu. I ordered the Petite Bourgogne beer, which is a local red beer that was crisp and fresh. The Lobster Roll was the item that stood out for me and I'm glad I ordered it as it was super fresh and delicious. The buttery roll was perfect with the well seasoned lobster garnished with chives. The portions are also just right. The inside atmosphere was off the rails with an upscale atmosphere and the patio was quite different with atmosphere more suitable for conversation with ease. I really enjoyed this place and glad we accidentally discovered it. The only thing I regret is not trying one of their cocktails, as I learned after that the cocktails were created by a renowned mixologist, Andrew Whibely from Cloakroom Bar fame. This explains the very short offerings of beers.
