7/10 Hidden little japanese resto in a food court. The food was descent,i enjoyed the fried croquette which was filled with mashed potato, japanese fried stuff are the best. For the main i took the beef onion rice/terriyaki chicken. It tasted homemade and just okay. The prices are really reasonable,if you are looking for something different and affordable this place would be for you.

Food felt like home made food, tried the pork with ginger and was goooood, like homemade food. I'll come back again to try other items in the menu. It's very affordable too, the staff is friendly, you feel like eating in a Japanese underground joint.

Fast cheap japanese comfort food. A hidden gem near McGill. The line can be long but don't worry they serve the food super fast.

Japote serves very affordable Japanese food near McGill University (a 3-minute walk from McGill) which locates in the food court of the Scotia Tower. It was a bit hard to find the first time. The food were pretty decent for the price. We tried the gyu-don and the oyako-don, both were pretty good. The service was great and the staff was friendly and welcoming! The staff recommended us which sauces to put on top of our dishes. You should check it out if you're in the area for lunch! Keep in mind that they only accept cash and that they only open on weekdays and they close at 2:30 PM.

Super cheap and quick lunch place in the basement of the Scotia Bank tower. Japote is a small family (food court) restaurant that serves authentic Japanese food. On the menu, there's chicken, pork, beef, eel, and vegetarian options for under 10$ after taxes -- which is hella cheap imo. I like the concept of open cuisine, where we can watch the chef/owner cook passionately and delicately assemble every plate. The food is great in general (I've tried everything on the menu), and I'm especially fond of #3 (chicken) and #0 (pork). Although I note that it's a little salty at times, so bring a water bottle or something. The best part? If you purchase a loyalty card for 1$, you get 5.00$ discounted on your next meal for every 5 meals! Sometimes I end up getting a large bowl of - my fave - Tori don (chicken rice bowl) for only $1.50...!? Where do you get 'free' food like that?? Lastly, it's cash only so make sure you bring a little change heh.

Easily one of the best deals in downtown Montreal! As I was looking for a spot for lunch, my friend suggested me this place. Previously located in the Faubourgs on Ste-Catherine, it is now located in the food court under the Scotiabank building on Sherbrooke, right across the management building of McGill. The first thing that struck me what the super low prices. Seeing those prices, I expected a small portion. I was suprisingly surprised by what 8$ gave me: a good portion of chicken and rice and a croquette too. The taste itself reminded me a lot like homemade meals (in a positive way). There are also many different sauces by the counter and you could put in your plate to enhance the flavour. Honestly think that this is a solid alternative for cheap lunch for McGill students who are tired of eating at Super Sandwich, also very quick service when I went there around 12:30 on a weekday!

I totally fell in love for their food/menu back when they used to be at the Faubourgs !!! It was so good that it became my comfort food very early on and I kept going back for their Tori-Don. I don't get to go as often now, their schedule changed, they aren't open as often as they used to and I tend to get a little lost to find their new place, but the food is still just as good and their choice of sauces to complement it is so satisfying :) ... Plus the people owning the places are kind and smiling, it's a gem in the rough ! And it's very affordable, what more to ask ?!

Amazing amazing amazing place!! I loved this place when I used to be in the faubourgs near Guy, now it's moved underneath the Scotiabank tower and it's still just as amazing. The potions are generous, taste is authentic, and price is so cheap!!!! Highly recommended over and over again. This place will always have a place in my (tummy) heart.

You can also order to go here I believe. They really operate efficiently, expect fast service! Tables are tightly situated and there's a cozy bar situation where I sat this time, able to watch the chefs cook right in front of me. The daily specials are posted on their Instagram page, as well as written on pieces of paper around the restaurant. My server quickly helped me to water and a glass of sake. I placed a to go order for one of the daily specials, the grilled sea bass with sushi rice and salad, with some kimchi. I also ordered the BBQ chicken with tortilla and salad, as well as vegetable gyoza. Everything was incredible. Truly. The gyoza came topped with green onions and was SO crispy and hot and was perfect with their soy sauce. I thought sea bass was wonderful with a unique almost smoky flavor that melted in my mouth paired with the slightly sweet sticky rice. The barbecue chicken was great as well and better the next day. One thing I don't really understand is why they served plain flour tortillas cut into quarters with their food. We didn't utilize this, nor the white butter/mayo sauce that came alongside it. I hope to eat here often, for years to come and am so happy to see this iconic Japanese restaurant still thriving years later.

Once seated, things happen very quickly...it is go, go, go (in the best possible way.) We ordered appetizers first, the tempura green beans with a delicious truffle mayo, gyoza and the tofu salad (they make it fresh every Sunday). Green beans were everyone's fave, but I have to mention the (pickled?) vegetables on the salad. So flavourful! Also tried the egg drop soup which is so tasty. Mains were the salmon tuna bowl, the beef short ribs, the shrimp burger, and 48 hour pork with curry sauce. Everything was wonderful! Finished with their soft serve ice cream, I had the cherry blossom but one of us had the sake, which is a shot of sake poured on top. Amazing! You can even have wasabi or ginger... I'll try that next time (and there will be a next time soon!)

I wanted to share my experience because their online and in person menu is quite ambiguous and doesn't do justice in explaining their tasting menus. What I really like about this restaurant is that unlike many, they don't make everyone order the same thing. It just requires a minimum of 2 people for the tasting menu and everyone else can order what they please otherwise. The $55 tasting menu is pretty worth it imo. The fact that a drink alone is about $17 as is makes it worth, because it comes with multiple tapas and a drink of choice. The server tried his best to explain everything to us beforehand, but we couldn't help but start to worry during the meal when a few plates came out and we hadn't seen anything for a while. Basically, there are 3 courses, and each course contains multiple items which come out pretty quickly all at once. We started off with lighter apps like edamame, karaage, gyoza, and Japanese pasta. There will be a waiting period before the next course comes out (but don't panic like we did, it doesn't end here). The second course contained tuna poke, a vegetable dish, beef tataki, and takoyaki. There is another waiting period before the third (and heaviest) course comes out. We received pork ribs (a crowd favourite), salmon, and a watermelon salad to end. There were definitely more dishes that I'm forgetting but by the end of it we were all stuffed and pleasantly surprised with the variety we received and unanimously thought it was pretty worth. The restaurant environment is also such a vibe... just a great social setting overall. We had some people in our group that opted out of the tasting menu and decided to share à la carte style, and they also enjoyed their meal and thought it was worth it too. I'd highly recommend this spot as it was a highlight during our trip.

We showed up on time for our reservation. The restaurant is dark, and sleek looking, so it could be a place for dinner or for drinks at the bar. We browsed the menu, and decided to go light and ended up trying the the following: - Edamame (with Furakake): Good. Soy beans can only be so different between restaurants. I will note that some of the soy beans we got were the biggest I've even seen. Furakake added needed flavour. - Avocado Truffle Tacos: OK. Quite tiny, but well made and tasted good. I didn't get any hint of truffle though. - Wagyu Dumplings: Good. But similar to any good quality non-wagyu dumpling I've had before. Overpriced. - Paradise Maki: Good. I like the texture of the tempura. - White Dragon Maki: Very good. I think the ponzu sauce elevates this dish another level. Service was pretty standard. Did all the tight things, and timely, but not particularly friendly. Overall, it was an OK visit. Food overall was generally good quality, but very expensive for the quality and quantity you get. But I also recognize that sometimes you pay for ambiance, and you certainly do here.

I ordered the spicy garlic pork ramen with thick noodles, and I was blown away with how flavorful the broth and QQ (chewy) the noodles were. I didn't like the pork that much and found it a bit tough and gamey, but they do have two other types of meat (chicken, beef) as well as a vegetarian option available, as well as seasonal menu specials. The Ramen - noodles were perfectly cooked, however honestly package ramen had a better flavor than their Original pork ramen unfortunately. I had expected this rich and creaminess of the pork broth, that was sticky-lipped intensifying, but it was not. This was disappointing and thus can only give 2 stars. I can't say for other noodle type, but original pork ramen needs a lot of work.
