First time dining in at Nozy -- had takeout of the uni (sea urchin) don previously some years ago…read more(which was quite good). Came here with a friend, and we both ordered kaisen don and shared an okonomiyaki pancake appetizer and a hot sake. The okonomiyaki was delicious -- it had been sliced into pieces and then deep fried, which is a nice twist; topped with bonito and served with some kind of spicy mayo sauce. Kaisen don was excellent -- looks smallish but was quite filling in fact, thanks to the nice bed of subtly seasoned rice underneath the mini-mountain of various sashimi, which tasted fresh and was well-presented. There was also a piece of uni on it, which I enjoyed immensely. Sake was pretty good too, a warm alternative for winter. Service was attentive but not intrusive. Love the down-to-earth atmosphere of the place, it really feels like a neighbourhood favourite. We had come early-ish for our reservation, and by the time we left, the resto was full -- a good sign. Only gripe was that the paper menu was a couple of bucks more expensive than what is posted online on the resto's website -- and only for some items, not all of them. But given the issue of inflation recently, it's understandable that restaurants can also barely keep up with rising prices for ingredients too. Overall, a tasty experience -- both my friend and I plan to come back.

Here's the one of the firsts that my wife and I decided to go back! Service wise, they have only one waiter in front and he has to go into the kitchen to help from times to times, so it's not too notch service but still enjoyable and hear me out. We are all coming out slowly from a pandemic over a year. We are lucky that some business survive. It will take times for everyone to recover, so give it times, I'm sure they will get better! Food wise This is not a typical Japanese restaurant. So you'll be surprised. I ordered beef sando (beef sandwich) its not the one that I was expected so I was a bit disappointed until I have my first bite... The beef is actually very soft and tasty. I do wish the buns were hot/toasted but hey its still good nonetheless. Then I ordered the chef 5 choices as my main course... Why? I just don't know what to order, the best is to order this set menu so I can try a little bit of everything Hehe. It packed with fried chicken, pita chips with egg plan dip, takoyaki, salade and sashimi rice bowl (aka poke bowl). Everything is good and fresh... Unfortunately the rice was a little too warm for my taste. Price is acceptable, mind you this restaurant is known to have fresh fish and seafood, so really you pay for what you get and you won't be disappointed as an overall experience. If you haven't been there before, go ahead and try! If you have been there before... Well I'm pretty sure you're reading this to plan your next meal, right? :) Enjoy!

The inside is very clean and freshly decorated with plants along the walls. The staff was very nice and greeted us right away, bringing us the menu that resembles a photo album with pictures on one side of the menu and a description on the other side. We ordered the okonomiyaki to share (pork pancake which they made vegetarian upon request). It arrived after our main dish but was nice and hot. The flavour was good and a nice addition to the dish. I had the gyu don (beef rice bowl) the beef was very flavourful and it was filling. We finished with a brown sugar ginger tea. The waitress explained the concept to us: you receive a mug of hot water and a rock made of ginger and brown sugar with a spoon. You let the rock dissolve to the sweetness/flavour you would like. You can remove the rock when you want and she will keep filling up your mug until you're done. It was so nice to end with this hot drink on this cold winter night! The whole meal was less than $25 and we left feeling very satisfied!

I had dinner here with my husband and we both really enjoyed it…read more It's a small restaurant that has a natural/green feeling to it. It looks like it used to be one of those places that just sells salads or a tiny cafe (?) Anyway, it's super cute. We ordered the popcorn chicken to share ($6) and I had the Gyu Don ($11) and my husband had the Torikatsu ($11). The popcorn chicken was good, but was a bit salty for my tastes. It was dark meat, so not as lean as I would have liked, but still enjoyable. I really liked my Gyu Don. I asked for no corn and no sesame seeds and my dish came as requested. It was a bed of rice, shredded cabbage, shredded carrots, half an egg, and thinly sliced beef. I loved that the beef was lean and not all fatty and gristly like at some places. The meat was also tender and well marinated. The rice was a bit sticky, which I liked. The cabbage and carrots were finely shredded and at first I thought there was too much dressing, but it ended up being ok. The egg was tasty, but for some reason was cold. Is it supposed to be cold? I don't know. I was expecting it to be hot like the rice and beef. I had a taste of my husband's dish, which was essentially like mine, except his protein was a breaded chicken breast. We requested no sesame seeds with his dish too, so I could try some, and he was ok with corn, so got corn with his meal. The Torikatsu does not come with half an egg though. I had a piece of the Torikatsu and it was good. I liked the lean chicken breast and the breading was tasty. Service was very nice, friendly and attentive. The server came and refilled our empty water glasses several times without prompting. We got our food fairly quickly too. You pay at the cash register when you are done. Really cute spot. I would definitely recommend it for some quick and cheap Japanese food.

They asked if I wanted Bento or from the menu, and I wanted the menu items. I requested crab to be removed from the tayo ozisushi and they removed it with no hesitation. I also ordered the crunch salmon roll (don't remember the exact name) and the kind staff member ensured it didn't have crab in it. It was ready in less than 10 minutes, and a quick walk around the block made the wait just fly by. The total for both dishes came to $19, which is a bit on the pricier side I suppose but reasonable for dinner for sure. The sushi tasted quite good I have to say. Very fresh and flavourful. You can definitely tell when the salmon is high grade and this place does it right! I forgot to ask if they could torch the ozisushi, maybe next time. It still tasted good though! I was enticed by the high Yelp reviews, and happy to also provide one. I'll definitely visit again for takeout!

The owner is incredibly sweet, and they have a lovely variety of onigiri and dango. I got their découverte combo, which comes with 2 onigiri and 1 dango mochi. I settled on the ajitama (soft boiled egg) and salmon, both of which were delightful -- the salmon was super tender and had just a touch of Japanese mayo, which helped to make it even more moist while adding a hint of sweetness, acidity, and salt. The ajitama had a gorgeous jammy yolk and packed a huge punch of umami flavor. Both had a solid ratio of filling to rice, and it was quite a flavorful, filling $15 portion, but not so filling that it would prevent you from trying other things in the market. My only potential critique is that the soy sauce glaze they use on top is quite salty; it's delicious, but it makes the first bite extremely salty and the rest of the onigiri a tiny bit bland. The dango was also delicious -- super fresh, chewy, springy mochi with a lovely earthiness from the mugwort. I loved the red bean, and it was a delightful sweet treat to round out the combo.

IN SUM: 2-stars because of the kind service…read more RATING: 4-stars for service. 1-star based on food. 2-star based on ambiance. SERVICE: I'd really love to give this place 1-stars based only on the food, but the service by the female hostess was especially considerate and kind. The service by the other male hostess was rather the quick and hurried. We felt rushed. However, when it came time for the bill and we needed to leave the waiter was slow. FOOD: SUSHI- We ordered the midi maki and sushi maki (5 maki, 5 sushi) and tempura. The sushi rice was under seasoned. The seaweed was dry. The sushi was mildly warm. The rolls were randomly given. The most I remember from my roll was the strong taste characteristic of tuna and the dry slightly old taste of the imitation crab meat. As an avid sushi eater who can down 30 pieces at an all-you-can-eat buffet, I was unable to even finish 10 pieces. It wasn't particularly bad, but it wasn't particularly good. My mother with zero experience in sushi making made better rolls her first time than this restaurant that specializes in sushi. The rice was also not sushi rice - larger and thicker grain. I'm surprised this place lays claims to being a sushi bar. TEMPURA- I did not eat the tempura but my table mate who frequently eats fried food - from Southern fried chicken to Beijing fried street stall buns - said the tempura was undercooked and from a pan that reused the oil. SOUP- The miso soup was too salty as well. My table mate said the best part of the meal was the water. AMBIANCE- It's unfortunate that this key location is this restaurant. The high-vaulted ceilings are wasted on a cheap-looking silver ceiling. The centerpiece chandelier is a cheap silver-sprayed Christmas light spherical decoration. The gold columns are unevenly sprayed. The window columns are chipped. The windows are dirty. The only nice elements of the atmosphere is the painting of the woman in a blue dress and the art pieces above the sushi bar. Finally, the sushi bar chairs need to be repainted. The layout was also especially awkward. There were two main doors and I got confused which one was the entrance. Next, the hostess stand was not by the entrance and I was especially lost where to stand to be seated.
