If you're looking for a southern inspired way to grab lunch or get something for dinner or even something to grab and go while you're on the run, I highly recommend this place. I actually ordered for them twice in one week because it was so good. The catfish sliders. I also got salad from there as well. Me and my walking buddy were out for a walk and by the time we got there, our food was already ready, which was great. Also, this food is super budget friendly with the catfish sliders being $9.99. That is such a deal for fries and two catfish sliders yummy. They have ample dining area but street parking honestly is limited, which is why I feel like people are mostly picking up to go or getting food delivered. A lot of people were talking about them on Facebook in the South Loop group so I had to check them out. You can actually see inside the kitchen where they're cooking stuff too, so there's transparency on that end as well. They they also have other specials such as a chicken sandwich or a hamburger deal for like 5. From salads to gumbo's entrées, such as pasta Alfredo there is everything on this menu. It's owned by the same guy who owns virtue so you know the food is good.

Have been wanting to try this restaurant since last year; finally got the chance this afternoon. Very inviting with all of the colorful, welcoming decor on the outside. Once inside, you are immediately hit with the smell of home cooking with lots of spices in the air. My order included a honey glazed salmon meal that came with mashed cauliflower and green beans. I also ordered the pork chop meal that came with two pork chops, rice with green peas and roasted brussel sprouts. I also ordered a side of cornbread that comes with two small pieces and honey butter. To top the meal off, I ordered caramel cake slices. When I finally made it home and was able to eat, I first noticed how nice the portions were. Enough for two days. Lol. Then I noticed how pretty it was plated in the to-go containers. Just because your order is to-go doesn't mean it can't look good. Anyway, everything was delicious and flavorful. I have lunch for tomorrow. Two things to know; this establishment is carry out only and the have a really cool loyalty program. Sign up, save money off your next purchase.

So I need to update this. The Chicken Alfredo is addictive, and I sometimes add shrimp which takes it to another level. Definitely try this! I have ordered from this place so many times now as well as their sister restaurant Virtue. Top-notch food for sure. Other amazing things I've tried are: - gumbo - rotisserie chicken - honey fried chicken - pork chop meal They have not let me down yet. Please don't change that darn Alfredo pasta dish! It's perfect with the right amount of chicken, sauce, everything.

Our kitchen is under renovation and we are sick of takeout, but we decided to grab food from the only James Beard winner from Chicago this year...Erick Williams did not disappoint. We've been to his sit down restaurant, Virtue, but weren't sure what to expect from here. So flavorful and comforting and generous portions to boot! It was delivered nice and hot and we ate until we were beyond full and still had leftovers. This is not your average takeout. I think they only offer to go, but we will absolutely make this part of our regular rotation.

I was extremely surprised by this place! It's mostly carry out but they do have a couple of tables on the mac n cheese side. The portions were big and made with care. The absolute highlight was the chicken gumbo and the cornbread. The cornbread is more cake texture than a traditional cornbread you're used to but it's so good and addicting. The Cajun pasta was also so good! Highly recommend. It was quite quick and tasty.

I thought the Mustard Seed had some great food, I have ordered twice from them, what needs to happen is that who ever owns the mustard seed needs to fire all of his employees, They do not know how to cook, I ordered the honey butter chicken with a Caesar salad and mashed potatoes, this food looked like a kid had been playing with his mother food. I also ordered a Turkey Burger for my mom, the burger was burnt and the cheese looked like an inner tube. I will not be buying or ordering any more food from them. I advise the people please don't eat at the Mustard Seed Kitchen

I ordered a cajun fettuccine and ate it like I hadn't eaten in days. And afterwards, I texted my partner to tell her it was one of the best pastas I've had. Mustard Seed Kitchen is Chef Erick Williams second restaurant. If you've been to his first, Virtue, you know what to expect. The food is excellent. It's dinner table plates prepared by grandma, only grandma happens to have a James Beard award. The food at Virtue, and now at Mustard Seed, is comfort food. It has comfort baked in but has a zest of newness; just enough for you to taste the edge of your comfort zone. Unlike Virtue, Mustard Seed is designed for takeout. It's the perfect place to order for delivery while still looking to eat right. I ordered from Doordash. Nearly 20 minutes door-to-door and the food arrived hot. When you order online, you can choose the sauce you'd like. In the description for this dish, it says its made with the creamy tomato and so I didn't venture to change it. I added on zucchini because I like zucchini and needed some extra vegetables. The cajun spices truly transform this dish, it makes the pasta. I tend to like spicy food and expected it to be spicier, but it had just the right amount of kick. I think even if you can't handle much spice, you'll enjoy this pasta. The shrimp was blackened just right; it was so good that I'm tempted to add on extra shrimp next time I order. The serving size is probably just enough for two. I set some aside had and had a healthy portion later. But if I was ordering for two, I'd probably add on an extra side to be safe - this place looks to have some amazing sides. If you knew nothing about this place - no clue who invented the recipes, what the business stood for - you might look at the price while scrolling through the menu and be sticker shocked. $20 for a takeout pasta on Doordash is laughable in Chicago. And this place doesn't even have the excuse that they're charging for takeout what they charge for a dine-in experience, it's a takeout kitchen! However, I encourage you to give it a try if you can. The $5 you'll save ordering a cheaper alternative elsewhere won't come close to what you'll have missed out.

Solid. Food is always flavorful. Small casual dine-in area but mainly take-out. Order on-line. My regular. My kids love their chicken tenders.

The staff were really welcoming, for an early morning. I got the hot chocolate. Honestly that's exactly what I needed that morning. It had that real Mexican chocolate taste. Thick, creamy, smooth and rich. The cinnamon came through warm but not too strong, plus a little extra on top that hit your nose before the first sip. Sweet and it almost had this slight earthy note too... hard to explain but good. It even had that little design on top, like the ones they do on cappuccinos. Didn't expect that but it was cool. I finished it slow. Didn't wanna rush it. Just sat there taking small sips and enjoying it while it was still hot.

It feels upscale but still comfortable. Service was attentive and paced well, especially considering it was Restaurant Week and fairly busy. The Restaurant Week menu offered a great variety. We started with the crispy arancini, which were perfectly golden on the outside and creamy inside with a rich glaze that added a nice depth of flavor. The wild mushroom risotto had great earthy flavor and was very rich, definitely a heavier dish but satisfying if you are in the mood for something indulgent. The gnocchi were soft and pillowy with fresh basil and roasted tomatoes that brightened the dish nicely. For entrées, the filet mignon was cooked beautifully, tender and medium rare with a flavorful sauce that complemented it well. The chicken parmesan had a solid crisp and good seasoning, though it leaned more classic than standout. Portions overall felt fair for the prix fixe price. Dessert was a sweet finish. The tiramisu was light, creamy, and not overly heavy, which we appreciated. Overall, 4 stars. Great ambiance and solid execution across the board. While nothing completely blew us away, it was a well done Restaurant Week experience and I would definitely come back to try more from their regular menu.

We ordered a cocktail off of their menu and asked for it without one ingredient (simple syrup). They said they might be able to do it, but they would have to make it from scratch. Wait, does this mean their cocktails are all premade sitting in a jar under the bar? If I'm ordering a cocktail from a bar downtown & paying downtown prices, I'd like to think they're all going to be made from scratch by my bartender. The drink turned out pretty weak. We also had a smoked bourbon cocktail that was really nice, smoked in the glass at the bar with you.

First off, this was the best service I've ever received in my entire life. Truly, nothing topped this. The waiters were genuinely the most kind and fun loving ppl, and they be complimenting your dish choices, giving tips on how to elevate each dish, boxing up our food and putting it at the front desk, giving us pink floral plates because we said we liked their plates.... Just so genuinely kind! To start, we got the truffle gnocchi. Oh my goodness this was the MOST soft and pillowy gnocchi I've EVER had in my entire life. I don't think anything can beat the texture. Not tooo truffle-y either, which is great for folks that don't want to be drowned by that flavor. We also tried the toast royale. It was huge hunks of sourdough griddled with beef fat. This made for a very umami bite with that caramelized shallot butter on the side, but it was a bit heavy for us given how many other carbs we've already ordered. I'd definitely recommend getting this if you're with a big group! The star of the show - Oliver's cheeseburger. Now I'm not one that enjoys salt. This burger was SALTY... and I loved it??!! The salt comes from the 5 year aged cheddar and their sauce, which gave it such a rich and full bite. The French fries are truffle shoestring fries that comes with their sauce, and it's just so so so so good. I genuinely loved this meal a whole lot!!! Highly recommend!!

Cons: I would say the atmosphere/area doesn't match the prices -- it can get kind of expensive so I would recommend checking out their happy hour or their late hour deals. The fish was so flaky and tender that it was falling apart. The breading was perfect. I also loved the fries it came with because they were crispy on the outside and had a good amount of potato in each bite -- Crispy Fried Chicken: 9/10 the breading was also perfect but I do think it's missing a good sauce. the dish is included with a bottle hot sauce but because I don't do spicy sauces, I did find the fried chicken a little dry on its own. Loved the coleslaw and mashed potatoes that came on the side though -- Lobster Mac and Cheese: 8/10 very creamy and cheesy but not much lobster flavor. wasn't a bad dish at all but I probably would skip this for next time because the other dishes were more of a standout -- Sticky Date Toffee: this is the dessert they're known for and I have to admit I was reluctant to try it at first. I don't really like dates or toffee and I had read a few reviews who mentioned it was a little salty. I'm not sure if they adjusted the saltiness based on feedback but I didn't find the dessert too salty at all. It felt so balanced- the warm sponge cake, the toffee sauce, the cold ice cream and crumbs for a little bit of texture all came together perfectly In the future I hope to try their vodka pasta with spicy sausage, their chicken pot pie, their cornbread, and Bella Punch or Cosmo In terms of service, our waitress was extremely attentive and sweet -- multiple wait staff were keeping our water filled and checking in with us But outside of the food and service, I will say I was a little disappointed they charge for reservations here - it's $2.50 person and even though the cost isn't that high, I think the concept of charging for a reservation versus taking a deposit or charging a no show fee is hard for me to get behind Keep in mind they also have a 3% surcharge included in the bill as well But overall I loved my experience dining here-- I think the have so many amazing dishes to try and it was so hard to choose so I definitely would love to come back to try more

I didn't care for the warm seafood salad as it was overly oily and passed it off to hubby to finish. The cacio e pepe polenta was good but the portion size was so small I finished it in like 3 bites. I was excited for the cinnamon roll but it was a letdown. Our friend who dined with us described it as the "driest cinnamon roll he has ever eaten." I ordered the frittata Española (potatoes, fontina, piperade) for my child which was pretty standard. There was maybe a 30 minute delay between the time we finished each dish and when the next one would appear.
