I've been here twice, once by signing up via their website for a painting that I liked, and the second time for a private session for my recent birthday party! You can sign up on the website which shows a calendar with which paintings or items (they also do wine glass and mason jar decorations) to pick. When it came to my birthday party, I was provided with a link where my friends were able to signup. We were also put in a private room away from the main room (there are two private rooms towards the back), so it truly felt like an exclusive event! The price you pay is for your materials and the teacher (tips are appreciated!), and there are also assistants that'll walk around to provide more paint and/or guidance. There's also a bar with a wide selection of craft beer and wines, in addition to finger foods such as personal pizzas, mozzarella sticks, hummus, and etc. The food isn't anything to rave about, but it's there if you're hungry and it comes out in a timely manner. Muse is located right around the corner from Lululemon. There's plenty of retail garage parking throughout Mosaic as well. I went to Muse Paintbar on their "Paint your pet" night and it was a phenomenal experience. All the food and drinks there are very inexpensive and all the bartenders/instructors there were extremely friendly and helpful. I think paint your pet night is one of their more popular nights, which was probably why it was a bit crowded. But I had enough space to put down my food and paints while we were there. However some others did not -- they had to grab additional chairs to put their food and drinks. I was an art student so I didn't think the instructions would be too helpful, but I was wrong! They were extremely beneficial in the process. The steps they tell you to follow definitely help your piece look well completed greatly and fast! I have never finished a painting in such a short amount of time, especially not this satisfied with the end product. Overall, a great experience! Although the registration fee can be a bit expensive for their more popular nights, it is definitely worth it. I have more than 45 paintings now since coming to Muse Paintbar Mosaic in June 2018. It was actually this store that helped me pick the neighborhood for my new home. This business deserves our support: I had thought that artists are mostly introverts, can be temperamental. So I was truly impressed when I got to learn painting, at the same time, enjoy an entertaining experience. I am sure the artists and staff went out of their way to give the customers the total experience. Always admire people who can paint landscapes well, I am easily put off by my inner critic who tells me I am impatient and have no talent. After attending Adhem's class, I became a fan. He breaks it down so that it becomes possible. I also find that as a result, i enjoyed nature and sunsets that much better. Trees of different shapes and forms became a favorite subject. Daniela who often assists Adhem is also very pleasant and helpful. I also enjoy classes by Inessa, Matt, Kayla, Rachel. It is just so fortunate to meet artists who are 'very normal' people who can really teach, own the stage and class and considerate to nurture your (young) inner artist who may/not be sensitive. Since they work so hard, I hope the business will go on forever (!) with our support. They sure help me see as well as show me how to look at the world with eyes of appreciation and admiration. My first time going to Muse Paintbar, I can't believe it took me so long to discover them. Had a blast and I love that all ages are welcome. They have a wonderful staff, the instructor for the day was very easy to follow. There were a few children present and I loved seeing how positively the staff interacted with them. Such a fun date night, girls night, birthday idea or any random occasion you find appropriate! I bought a Groupon for a girlfriends birthday and we chose to do a painting that involved LED lights. The staff was super friendly, patient, knowledgeable and walked us through how to paint our canvas! A few tips: We did this event in the winter so wearing an older coat or clothes for safety reasons wouldn't hurt (they do provide smocks) but accidents can happen. Also leave you're bulky purses in the car and come only with the necessities: phone, credit card and keys! It's a tight space and fitting your purse on the floor while trying to not spill paint on it is all levels of tricky. We also arrived early to order a bottle of wine and bites. There was really nothing special about the bites at all (save your money or eat before or after) however a bottle of wine was a good way to get the creative juices flowing . We had an event here and the event started late, and ended late. Two people didn't get to finish their paintings because it was supposed to end at a certain time, but ran 30 minutes over! People had places to be, so I felt bad that they did not get to finish their paintings because the studio did not adhere to the stated times. I contacted the studio to ask for a refund for the 2 people, and they said no. Those folks did not get a painting, and they lost out on $50. I was here last night celebrating a birthday for a friend, it was 4 of us and we had the time of our lives at Muse. We had never done something like this and we do not regret it, we are actually discussing when we would be there again. I had a private party here for my birthday. There are three things I loved about it: 1) You can bring your own food and drinks (excluding alcohol-- plenty of that to buy while you're there). You can also buy food, but it's nice to have a few extras from home without anyone sweating you about it. 2) The friendliness of the staff and instructors. Katie was superb and fun!! 3.5 stars - Came here a couple times with friends and family. For someone that is type A and has never painted in her life, I actually really enjoyed the classes! It's a cool concept and a fun thing to do with a group. Environment: All the instructors/assistants were really helpful and friendly. Not sure about other locations, but at the Mosaic one, it's difficult to hear/see the instructor based on where you sit. Since seating is assigned, you usually don't have an option to move. Recommend that they get a better mic system so everyone can hear the instructions over the music and chatter! They have drink deals fairly often so if your schedule is flexible, review their calendar and pick a day with deals. Rewards program: The rewards are based off of how many times you book the appointment, not attend. Environment and the playlist is on point. Only down side was that the kitchen didn't open until 6:30 but the bar was open tho. In that case. I've attended a wine and paint night with a friend and we had the best time! Both of us have never done a wine and paint night class before and were very excited to find that there was a location in Mosaic District. The location works so well for us since one of us drives and the other metros. I think what I enjoy most about this place is the energy from the staff and teacher. Our teacher really took his time teaching us and made sure to come around and provide support where needed. The staff was also extremely friendly and helpful. They also encouraged you to be creative and to not necessarily paint inside the lines which I loved. I ended up painting a completely different picture from what we originally signed up for and our teacher still helped me with my design. There is a bar that offers food and drinks so you can grab wine and dinner. There are also plenty of different people there, you can bring your family, partner, or even host a bday party. I would love to come back and host an event in the future. I totally recommend swinging by and painting a picture here, my friend and I had a blast! read more

Thoroughly disappointing experience. The teacher didn't know how to instruct us and just hurried over and didn't clearly explain the steps. She didn't even know what we were painting (a famous building in DC) and kept referring to it by the wrong name (a minor annoyance, but still). The brushes were the wrong kind for the technique used in the painting. Finally, the food was overpriced for what was served. I am going to repaint the entire thing. I think Muse can be fun for a friends night out but I recommend sticking to something very basic and easy to paint. read more

Totally would have given the place 5 stars if we had a little more elbow room. We were in the middle room and barely had space to stretch out. I had such a fun girl date here! Signing up online was super simple, and they are well-organized and great about keeping your group together if you have people you want to sit with. The ladies who work here are so friendly and approachable whether they are at the bar serving drinks or instructing the class. It was really nice having munchies and adult beverages available to order. I thought painting would be a relaxing activity, but it actually made us more alert and we cared way too much about how our painting would turn out haha. But the wine helped with that ;) Loved the end result and how easy they made the whole process - you end up with an elaborate looking painting made from just 4 colors and easy brush strokes. I attended a private paint night party celebrating a friend's birthday. As opposed to being in crowded gen pop, we had our own glass enclosed room. It was set up upon arrival...so grab a smock, snacks & drank..then paint your night away! We had two tables set aside for a birthday cake and sodas. Light fare and drinks were available for purchase at the bar. I tasted the mozzarella sticks and cheese & cracker tray. They were cool to nibble on while sipping wine, but i would suggest eating dinner within the Mosaic District before you paint. Our instructor played music and was patient with us. In the end, we all had decent looking art to take home. Everyone enjoyed themselves. There was another private party consisting of teenagers next door. They were also having fun and gave me the thumbs up on my artwork. My review is 4 stars because I felt $45 was a little high. I believe there should have been 1-2 complementary beverages included or the ability to BYOB. Discount codes aren't applicable on private events. I plan to return but will look for a groupon. What a great time! Muse puts a permanent spin on the "paint nite" concept that has been around for a little while now. Their studio is located right around the corner from Lululemon in Mosaic, and is very nicely decorated with the various sample paintings that Muse teaches, tables spread throughout, and a bar (wine and beer) in the back. I signed up on the website, which shows you what paintings are happening on what days, as well as offers you the ability to either sign up a whole group of people at once OR create a group so that other people can sign up on their own and still be listed as one party. Very convenient! I also like that they offer various deals and specials -- Tuesdays seem to be first drink free night, which was a very pleasant and welcome addition to the night, hehe. They have a limited menu of small plate style foods -- spanikopita and mozz sticks, cheese and hummus plates, french bread pizzas and brownies for dessert, that sort of thing. We got an assortment of goodies to nosh on while we painted, and everything was tasty and pretty easily to snack on with your hands (which is important since you'll have your hands full with paintbrushes and the like while you nosh!) Our instructor, Jazz, and Margaret who was helping out, were both wonderful. Really attentive and the instructions as we went through our painting was great. They were both very encouraging as we went through, and even though it was a labor-intensive painting (lots of steps, lots of layers), I felt pretty good about my final product! My only suggestion comes from the fact that if you're with a larger group (we had 6), the table space comes at a premium and so it was kind of hard to balance all the supplies (brushes, water cup, paint palette, paper towel, etc) and still find space for your drink and a place to put the food. There wasn't a ton of people doing the class while we were there, so maybe it would have made more sense to put fewer of us at adjoining tables instead? Not a big deal in the long-run at all, but just something I'll think about when making future reservations. Because I definitely will be back for more painting fun in the future! read more

I've only been to two other painting sessions prior to this, but Muse is definitely the most organized. Going to be brutally honest here, that's what helps make a good place better right? Vibe: lively and feels like walking into a graffiti museum of vibrant colors. Instructor: very experienced and enthusiastic, provided clear instructions at a comfortable pace. Our class was supposed to be two hours but ended up a little over three, yet I don't see how it could be two, that would've been way too rushed. Staff: from the paint room to the bar, people were wonderfully helpful, upbeat and encouraging. They're really part of the experience and the main reason this review is at 4 stars. Food: don't order unless you're starving. It's like party food made by a stoveless kitchen after a trip back from the prepared processed food section in Giant. To be fair, there was noticeable attempt to make the presentation look pretty, it's an art studio after all. I can see that someone tried to make it work, but if you're going to offer a food menu, make it decent. Consider contracting with cava grill or allow people to bring their own snacks, just not drinks. Drinks: lots of varieties, beer, wine, sangria, soda, juice, you name it. I would recommend paper lid for the cup (suppose I can also fold one out of paper towel). There was so little room to place anything, I accidentally splashed paint in mine. Seating: there are approximately 10 tables, each setup for 4-5 people, which translates to 4-5 easels, canvas, water cans, paint palettes, brushes, and misc items. The seats were maybe half full, they could've easily have 3-4 people per table. Instead, it felt squished to have to find space for drinks or food. Palettes and cups were meticulously stacked to fit on the table. Seating arrangement really shouldn't be so cluttered. So much potential for this place to thrive, I'll definitely be back. read more

I was invited to the grand opening party of this place and was very impressed with how organized the staff were and how seamlessly the instructor navigated a very packed house. I've been to other paint places before but one thing I noticed (and liked) was that our instructor, Anne, had a mic which made her step by step instructions more audible, which is always nice. She was funny, encouraging, and very personable throughout the class. Aprons are provided and the bar in the back has wine/beer and a menu that provides small bites to nosh on while channeling your inner Bob Ross. If you're looking for something a little different to switch up your date night or have a fun time out with friends THIS IS IT! Disclaimer: My boyfriend and I are non artistic people who make amazing stick figures and we decided to give painting a try. When you first walk in, someone is there to help you find your canvas. Ladies: plus side if you're carrying a handbag, they have hooks at the underside of the table top for you to hang your purses! After finding your canvas, you can walk up to the bar, order yourself some drinks (wine, alcoholic root beer, soda, water) and an assortment of snacks and small plates. When it came time to start painting, the instructor is on a microphone and takes you through the steps to create your painting. VERY ORGANIZED. The paint colors are already laid out but you can get different colors at the color stations they provide. Also everyone has the same color coated brushes making following instructions very easy. They played great music while we painted, the small plates were delicious (we got hummus and chips) and at the very end the instructor would walk around and help you make your painting the best it could be without being mean at all. This place is probably fantastic for those who have some experience painting. However, if you don't, don't bother. I came to Muse Paintball for a social event through work (working in the field of accounting), and the experience was everything but fun, enjoyable, and stress-lifting. As a novice painter, I did not expect to create a masterpiece, just to have some fun. Thanks to one of the workers at the Paintbar, this was impossible. Upon seeing what I've done, he continued to critique me so loud that the entire room was laughing at my artwork, which wasn't even bad and was only a few steps in. He continued to make remarks along the lines of "No offense I can see this isn't your strength," "what the f**K are you doing?!" These events are supposed to be fun and stress-lifting, but thanks to the staff, this was the exact opposite of that, and I can confidently say that I'll never attend another paintbar again. read more

Our family from around the country was in town for Christmas. We're the type of family that sits around all day asking, "what do you want to do," and usually end up doing nothing. This year I decided to plan a few outings and give the experience as our gift to the various families, the youngest cousin is 18, oldest parent is 58.
