Great space for local Algerian folk rock band with space for dancing too
Prairie S.

In a city full of conformist government bureaucrats or technocrati who are largely left-brained-ruled, it's hard to find locally-grown art, music, dance, and bohemian culture. Enter Creative Cauldron into the culturally-emaciated landscape of Washington DC . How terrific to find this living-room sized, arena stage. The performance space here is intimate, the atmosphere eclectic, and the walls, covered in creations of local artists. The theater is located in a colorless, modern edifice on a backstreet in Falls Church. It's just a block from Pizzeria Orso. The entry lobby has a small bar serving wine/beer. The inner chamber is the theater, with a full set of lights and good acoustic capabilities. (After theater performances Pizzeria Orso is closed, so you have to back to pubs at Broad Street.) The show I saw, of Kamel Zennia and Band (an Algerian folk/rock band) was delightful and allowed space for a bit of dancing in the front of the stage. The audience seats maybe 60 to 70 max? I am reminded of performance-spaces I have been to in the great arts-culture city, Minneapolis, where local talent is showcased to appreciative local audiences. They have a ticket booth on site, but most shows have online ticket sales. I can't wait to go back!

I went for the first time to see Thunder Knocking on your Door, a bluesy musical with music written by blues legend Keb Mo.

Sometimes they'd go to the park in Clifton (for a lot of the same team building exercises my wife's company had done there); on another day, the kids went caving; and on another day, they went canoeing and swimming. Every evening, she would come back exhausted and happy. What more can you ask for?

Most people know Adventure Links for their popular camp programs for children and teens. However, they also offer stellar corporate team building programs, which is how I got to know them. About five years ago, as the CEO of a growing company of 20 professionals, I was struggling with how to address some growing pains and spice up our upcoming quarterly retreat. A friend recommended Adventure Links, so I scheduled a meeting with Anna, the CEO. Anna came to my office and interviewed me to understand my business, our challenges, and what I hoped to accomplish. She asked many questions, listened, and took notes. The next week, we took our team of 20 to their retreat location. Anna and her team had put together an all-day agenda of activities that went way beyond simple ropes courses. What surprised and "sold" me on them was how she'd managed to incorporate our growing pains into her exercises in meaningful ways. Sure, we had fun and bonded, but more importantly most of us began to see certain everyday problems in meaningful new ways, with fresh solutions. To this day our team references those exercises like old Seinfeld episodes. After each exercise - some physically challenging and all mentally challenging - Anna would bring us together and help us draw correlations to some of our corporate issues. It helped that she has a sharp wit and great sense of humor. She and her team also knew when to push and put us on the spot to drive home a point. Six months later, we wanted to bring Adventure Links back for another quarterly retreat, but this time due to bad weather we had to do the exercises in our office. They totally pulled it off! The indoor exercises were unique and again gave us a fresh perspective on both issues and people. An example - during one intense exercise where we split into two teams, a junior staff person had a "eureka!" moment with a brilliant solution to a problem, and spontaneously took control of our team, which included several executives. I had no idea this young lady was so intellectually gifted and capable of leadership under pressure. How valuable is that information for an employer? My firm has engaged Adventure Links several times since then, all with success. When my children are old enough, I'll be sending them to the Adventure Links camps...I know they'll learn and have fun. Adventure Links rocks!

A bus is offered to pick up our children and take them to Enshin, which in itself is relief enough, but the care they get once they're there makes us extremely happy to have Enshin in our lives. Even my kindergartener picked up the routine extremely quickly. The kids get a snack after school, can do homework or play games to decompress. Before it is time for parents to pick up, classes are held. I was happy to find out that children who attend the after-school program have the ability to progress through their belts just as someone who attended an evening class would. The first few weeks were difficult for my daughter, who was just getting used to not taking naps and now additional physical activity was thrown into the mix, but she survived and now acclimated to the change in schedule. My children have also attended one of their camps for days where the school is closed and they couldn't have been happier. They were excited to go, happy to be there when I was dropping them up, and wanted to stay more once I got there. Is there more a parent could ask for? I don't think so. The price is only slightly higher than Fairfax County SACC for two children but when you factor in that this is both childcare and a sports activity, it far surpasses SACC in value. You can sign-up for a yearly or month-to-month contract. The yearly contract gives you the best rates for days where schools are closed. It is also great to know that they pick up the children at the required time for early releases, scheduled or unscheduled caused by weather. I know my children are happy and safe with Enshin, and I'm happy with Enshin.

I informed them in person that my kids won't be taking classes for 3 months, still they charged for 3 months as one time payment and with in 2 months they charged for one more. STOP stealing money.
