My daughter had an amazing time at one of Adventure Links' summer day camp weeks. She would get picked up at a spot in Vienna early in the morning then get outdoors-ed all day long. Sometimes they'd go to the park in Clifton (for a lot of the same team building exercises my wife's company had done there); on another day, the kids went caving; and on another day, they went canoeing and swimming. Adventure Links has a talented, experienced crew with innovative ideas and a well-trained staff. I'm a fan! Most people know Adventure Links for their popular camp programs for children and teens. However, they also offer stellar corporate team building programs, which is how I got to know them. About five years ago, as the CEO of a growing company of 20 professionals, I was struggling with how to address some growing pains and spice up our upcoming quarterly retreat. A friend recommended Adventure Links, so I scheduled a meeting with Anna, the CEO. Anna came to my office and interviewed me to understand my business, our challenges, and what I hoped to accomplish. She asked many questions, listened, and took notes. The next week, we took our team of 20 to their retreat location. Anna and her team had put together an all-day agenda of activities that went way beyond simple ropes courses. What surprised and "sold" me on them was how she'd managed to incorporate our growing pains into her exercises in meaningful ways. Sure, we had fun and bonded, but more importantly most of us began to see certain everyday problems in meaningful new ways, with fresh solutions. To this day our team references those exercises like old Seinfeld episodes. After each exercise - some physically challenging and all mentally challenging - Anna would bring us together and help us draw correlations to some of our corporate issues. It helped that she has a sharp wit and great sense of humor. She and her team also knew when to push and put us on the spot to drive home a point. Six months later, we wanted to bring Adventure Links back for another quarterly retreat, but this time due to bad weather we had to do the exercises in our office. They totally pulled it off! The indoor exercises were unique and again gave us a fresh perspective on both issues and people. An example - during one intense exercise where we split into two teams, a junior staff person had a "eureka!" moment with a brilliant solution to a problem, and spontaneously took control of our team, which included several executives. I had no idea this young lady was so intellectually gifted and capable of leadership under pressure. How valuable is that information for an employer? My firm has engaged Adventure Links several times since then, all with success. When my children are old enough, I'll be sending them to the Adventure Links camps...I know they'll learn and have fun. My office held a retreat here and had a blast. The staff did a great job of weaving our work challenges into physical activities. We worked on trust, communication, leadership and listening, in a beautiful setting. This was a great way formus to hit reset and come together as a team. read more

This camp is dangerous. It is severely understaffed, and the staff they do have left (most summer employees have quit) are not properly trained. The camp is in desperate state of disrepair with black mold rampant in the tents and showers. Seriously reconsider before sending your child to this camp. read more

Zip lines and rope swings and mud pits, oh my! My son's 6th grade class had the best Field Trip of their lives at Hemlock Park's Adventure Links on Friday. The team of instructors were enthusiastic, knowledgeable and patient. The students worked together in teams of 12 to problem solve unique challenges. Our instructor, JONAH, was amazing!!! He motivated the students through frustrating challenges like a magician. The students were high-fiving each other when they completed hard challenges. Jonah encouraged the kids to work together in a positive, uplifting environment. He was quick to observe if a kid was struggling; and was right there to give them a pep talk and boost of confidence to turn their outlook around. Well done, Jonah!! It was wonderful to sit back as a parent/ chaperone and see the kids working together! read more

Adventure Links does a fantastic job running day-long team building events. You start out having no clue what to expect and really spend the time getting to know everyone and bonding. We took our students out and were amazed at who emerged as leaders, problem solvers, and procrastinators. The guides were knowledgeable, funny, and made everyone feel safe. Safety was never an issue, given the extensive equipment checks, guided excursions, and well-kept trails. I don't want to give too much away, but if you're considering AL for a school or corporate event, go for it! read more

Total fraud - do not use this company! They chose to cancel camps summer 2020, even though it wasn't mandated by the State of VA, and they said they would issue refunds. I have the documentation to prove it. They still owe me $2,000! They are also sending false information to the credit card company saying they only delayed the service, so the charge is still valid. read more

My Grandkids have been in Adventure Links for years. My Granddaughter is now 16 and three Grandsons are 10. They love these summer camps. My granddaughter's only negative is that her camps only run Two weeks. She would be happy with 4 weeks. The folks who run the camps are very friendly, willing to help as needed. One of the most customer friendly businesses I have ever dealt with. read more

We are lucky that our children's elementary school, has our fifth graders spend a day with Adventure Links, as a way to wrap up their time in elementary before heading on to middle school. Each student pays $46 to attend. This year, because of tornados and severe weather, their trip had to be cancelled. When the county and Adventure Links were unable to find a mutually acceptable make-up day, they offered to come to our school and do their program. I am in shock, that we paid $46 for a "field day" on our school's property. No ropes course. No zip line. I do understand they can't bring those, but we are all in shock that it was the same price for a glorified field day. In groups of 12-14 kids, they tried to figure out how to turn a tarp over to the other side without anyone stepping off the tarp. They tried to all stand on boards, while working together to move them one at a time to make a "bridge" to get each other across. They held hands in a group and tried to untangle each other without letting go....they passed a ball around the circle, to each classmate, trying to increase their speed each time. All good team building games...but certainly NOT a $46 value. They were at our school for two days. Half the classes on one day, half the next. I estimate they were paid $4500 a day for the eight people to spend 5 hours with the kids. Over $9000! The team leaders were good. Some were certainly better than others. I will say that many of the parents from yesterday and those I've talked to today were shocked. We will be sure to share our thoughts with our school and discourage them from ever going along with this option again. Next time they should insist on having our money refunded OR Adventure Links finding a date to reschedule the visit. I've had two other kids take part in this program AT the park. That I get...that I understand the $46 for. Their mobile program at $46 a kid is ridiculous. We have since confirmed with our school that they are in full agreement and they won't be using this option again. If you want ropes courses and ziplines, there is an amazing place in Maryland, that I've reviewed before. You want the "on-location" team building that Adventure Links offers? Buy a tarp, some scrap wood and a young adult who can play Red Rover and ask the kids what THEY think will work. read more

I & a co-leader took our Girl Scout troop for a one-day 6 hour team building course, which included the 300 foot zipline. Our girls are 9 & 10 year olds & we'd had much difficulty finding an affordable course w/ zip for their age group, which was a priority for our girls. The Adven. Links counsellor/leader was awesome! We had a lot of fun & the girls were bone tired at the end of the day, but they loved it. We will definitely do this again next year. read more
