My family and I booked the tour for 1:30 pm. NO ONE showed up which was a complete waste of time. We needed a code to get into the building and that wasn't provided previously in the email. My family and I had the call the facility back so many times. They never called back, I had to keep calling. Then they said they could send someone out. Not being respectful of anyone's time when I'll booking was at 1:30 and this was after 1:30 when they wanted to try to send someone out. Never said how long that would even be. No one should ever go here. I am furious! read more

We had so much fun!! My daughter, roommate, and I did Shipwreck and we had a great time. This was my first time doing an escape room, so I have nothing to compare it to; however, I do know a lot about customer service, and I was impressed with Catherine. She was so lovely and helpful, and helped make our experience great. Will definitely come back to try another theme. One star removed because the building was a bit hard to find. Had a great time. Very challenging room with a lot of brain teasers of varying difficulty. We did the Missing millions room. There was one task (sorry cant spoilt it) that didn't make any sense and even with a clue to solve it we couldn't sort out how we would have come to that result without help. The clue helped us move on but even afterwards our group couldn't figure out how it made any sense. Other than that one gap it was a great time. It would be more helpful with a more dedicated game master as you could hear staff doing other things down the hall and when a clue was needed they weren't always sure where we were in the process. Those are the only two complaints and I would still highly recommend trying this place out. read more

My experience lacked luster tonight starting when we first arrived. Myself and 4 others in my party arrived at the entrance at 852pm for our 9pm "Mad Scientist" escape room experience. The door was locked. There was no door bell or instructions on how to gain entrance. It was cold and raining. We stood in the rain knocking on the door and reviewing the confirmation email to see if there was entry instructions. There was not. I called the number listed in the email which went to a vm. The vm indicated to text if this was an emergency. I left a vm and texted. Immediately after texting I got a call back from a gentleman who game me the access code to unlock the door. We finally gained entrance and waited in an empty fron office space for another 2 minutes before someone finally appeared. I don't recall her name but she was polite enough. Only 3 of the 5 in our party had done an escape room.. the employee spoke very fast while giving instructions as well as when we needed clues so it was difficult to follow her. She was clearly familiar with the clues but ran thru it as if we were as well which clearly we were not... The room itself was disappointing in my opinion...it literalky looked like a office decorated as an escape room. Unfortunately we didn't win in time. A couple in my party had done numerous escape rooms previously and agreed this room was very difficult and in my opinion much of the solutions were just random... definitely would not recommend this place. Instead, the escape room in Fairfax is much better. read more

That room is going to keep you entertained and challenged ALL THE TIME. I can assure you that all the puzzles makes sense, they won't be easy, but they all have their logic. First escape room experience so dont have another to compare this with. I can say though that our family of 6 had a great time! They added a couple to our group since there is a max capacity of 8 but we all seemed to work together when it came down to it. Our youngest son, age 11, even helped and solved a couple puzzles so definitely fun for all ages. We did the pirate theme and made it out with 8 minutes remaining. My family and I went here with a Groupon for the Shipwrecked room and we were able to get out with a little over a minute left! At the time we went they were only open for about 1.5 months so there were a few technical difficulties but nothing too horrible that took away from our overall experience. I've been to many different escape rooms so I think they're off to a great start! The owners are also super friendly! The building can be a little hard to find at first since there aren't any signs outside for Great Xcape but it's a small white building with plenty of parking in the back. I can't wait for their virtual reality room to open to try it out! read more

I went to The Great Xcape last night with a group of my friends, and did 'The Mad Scientist' room. I have done a couple really great escape rooms before, so I was really excited to check out this place based on the reviews. Being honest, this room left us all feeling a bit disappointed. For starters some of the locks in the room were already solved, which just killed our drive. We were also shocked this happened because the worker said she was going to check the room before we began. In addition, an item in the room was broken so we got a key pretty early on that we shouldn't have had. I could keep talking about the flaws of this experience, but I don't want to spoil the fun for someone if they choose to do this room. The icing on the cake for us was we completed the room and had absolutely no idea we had completed the room. For 20 minutes we were searching the room for more clues, until we finally hit the hint button and the worker told us we had won. It was honestly just overall a really disappointing experience. Maybe this experience only pertained to the room we did, but it also felt like the room had zero flow. read more

First time experiencing an escape room -- it was a lot of fun! We failed miserably though. It was humbling for a PHD, a MBA, and a software engineer (among others) ask for tips four times and still fail to solve the Mad Scientist room in time. We solved the puzzles out of order, so we got a little lost trying to solve puzzles that were already solved. Also, we wasted a couple of minutes thinking we had solved the room when there was more left. Overall, it's a good, stimulating experience. We will likely come back to try their Shipwrecked room. The service there is great. The staff is very accommodating. By the way, Yelp has the wrong phone number listed and I hear it's nearly impossible to change, so if you want to contact the staff, you'll have to do it from their own website. read more

Our department had a team-building event at this escape room. We also reserved a party room for our event's meeting and luncheon. The escape room was lots of fun and very challenging. The party room was a bit smaller than we expected, but we made it work. The staff was very helpful, although it was a rocky start because they were late arriving, and our whole team was standing outside for about 15-20 minutes waiting. Once we got started and our food order was delivered, the manager did offer to help bring everything in and assist with set up, so that was very appreciated. Overall it was a really good experience, and I would recommend this escape room and its services. read more

Not your ordinary escape room because you don't exactly escape from this room as that's against the law in Prince William County and it's considered kidnapping. Quite humorous. Why would I pay for my own kidnapping? Nevertheless, what a fun time we had! Upon entering, they ask every person to sign in and keep in mind, it's required you arrive at least 5 minutes earlier. However, we arrived 2 minutes earlier and we didn't get in trouble. This place is not as strict as other ER where you must start and end at a certain time and the door opens. The employee who assisted us walked us to the room and she went over all the instructions, which included "don't touch this or that but do touch this if you need help", a button we actually had to use numerous times in order to finish in an hour and find the treasure. Unfortunately, we found the treasure seconds after the timer went off but regardless, we learned so much about one another and how we think. We also laughed a lot and enjoyed the props, the mysterious clues, the puzzles, and the entire mystery of the missing treasure! Would definitely go again for a different mystery! I bought the groupon expecting that was the final cost but they apply a $14.40 "Facility Fee" right at the end of when you're finalizing the reservation. This should have been mentioned in the fine print of the groupon. Disappointing start. What other fees will I have to worry about? They reached out to me to let me know they tried to get Groupon to update their fine print without success. An offer to reverse the reservation, costs, and groupon was made. We always have so much fun when we come here! The staff is amazing, everyone is so nice and you can tell they all really love what they do. My husband and I have done 3 of the 4 rooms here so far - The Following, The Mystery of the Missing Millions, and the Mad Scientist. We have had a mix of doing the room by ourselves as well as with a large group of strangers and all times have been so fun and challenging! The Following is the hardest room to complete according to the employees (which makes sense as my husband and I did not finish in time!) but it was my favorite room so far. Every room is super immersive and makes you think, so you really can't go wrong with any of them. We can't wait to see how this small business grows and we will be first in line to any new rooms they open in the future! :) read more

My wife and I wanted to do something different to celebrate our 28th wedding anniversary, so, looking for things to do around the area, I found the Great Xcape. We were interested in trying an escape room for a while now, and when we found one only two miles from our house, the decision was an easy one. What a great experience! We went with another couple and booked the venue known as The Following. Once there, we were introduced to another couple that joined our party and we were all escorted into the room in a timely manner. The staff were courteous and friendly and did what they could to explain how things worked before leaving us alone to our own devices. They provided one or two clues when we became stumped which allowed us to rally and just barely figure everything out with only a few seconds remaining. In short, this was well worth the price and a lot of fun! A good way to meet people and an intelligent, exciting diversion from watching television or surfing the web. read more

I went here with my friends and we did the Mad Scientist room. It was super challenging, but thankfully unlike other Escape Rooms the staff is willing to provide you with as many clues as you want. Ownership is highly responsive and the space is super clean. We had an absolute blast! This would be a great team building activity and is a nice break from just meeting up in restaurants to hang. What a fun little unsuspecting place! My finace and I booked the hardest level room on a whim on a Saturday. It was VERY difficult but the room itself was intricate. A group of 8 friends went last night to celebrate 2 birthdays. The venue was a surprise for the birthday celebrants. Brandon was very helpful in working with us on the surprise part. We had purchased matching tshirts and were able to leave with him before the group arrived. Once there, we were immediately impressed with the clean, fresh, welcoming facility. A nice touch was the Keurig in the waiting room.We worked on the Mad Scientist scenario/room which we completed the task with 3 minutes to spare! When we got stuck on finding the next clue, Brandon sent us another clue to get us to the next step. As we were leaving, we peeked in the other rooms and are talking about going back to try those rooms later. Fun, challenging, site and great staff made for a memorable event! Highly recommend! This was my fourth escape room, and Great Xcape is definitely one of the best I've seen. The rooms were all well done (we got to glance into each of them) and the staff were fun, friendly and clearly keen that everyone have a good time. We did "Shipwreck" and even though it was just the two of us, we ALMOST made it out in time! It was definitely challenging, even after having done a few before, so if you're looking for a tough one, it's a good pick. Also, bonus, way less expensive than most escape rooms in the NOVA area. Staff is friendly. I feel bad leaving a negative review but you should know what you're going to get. The rooms are not solvable without clues, which is probably why they give them to you unlimited. Isn't the purpose to try and solve it on your own? I wouldn't necessarily mind that if it only cost me 15 bucks, but for 30- I want a room that I can solve. And I don't mean easy... we were five science teachers in a science themed room--- it wasn't the content that was hard but trying to figure out what we were supposed to do with a couple of the puzzles would not have been possible without the clue. Also- when we caved in to ask for a clue we hit the button and waited five minutes before calling down the hallway for help- respond to your button! Five minutes is valuable time! Our husbands did a different room at the same time and felt the same about their experience. read more

So booked the private room on Groupon for My birthday and I have to say it was pretty awesome. I was slightly disappointed I didn't get to do the pirates room it was grayed out on the website but we did the millions one. I spoke to the guy at the front about that and he said he would look at it and I actually felt like he would. If we had just a little more time we would have finished. (Honestly I think half the group was hungry so they couldn't focus lol) Never realized a hour can go by so fast!!! I would definitely go back and try the other rooms. This place is a hidden gem! (Seriously hidden, when we got there they'd just finished remodeling and hadn't put their sign out front yet!) Once you're inside the facility is inviting and clean, and the room was awesome! We did The Following and they had such a good number and variety of clues and puzzles. Something for everyone.
