When you approach the building, you might miss it because it can be mistaken as an apartment unit. But there was a sign lol. We did a work place holiday shindig with about 11 of us. I don't want to give away too much, but overall, I'm just glad we figured it out with 7 minutes left! We were given 1 hour to crack the code, but sheesh! There was too many lol glad that the team were working on multiple codes at the same time. Looking back, it might be easier with a smaller group. We noticed that when there were too many voices that sometimes you look over things instead of talking it out with each other. Overall, the guy that worked there was really nice and the clues were cool. Fun times!

We got out with no hints used!

I planned a holiday outing with my work team here and we had a great time! Despite the fact that I love not too far away, I had never noticed Escape Artist DC on the corner by Barracks Row. You really only find this place if you go looking for it, which is part of its charm. Upon entry, we were greeted by the friendly owner, who took us into the intro room where we watched a video about how the whole process worked. I have been to Escape Room Live in Georgetown and the Great Escape Room in Dupont Circle, so I and some colleagues were already familiar with the concept. He encouraged us to do the intermediate difficulty room, rather than the easier one that we had signed up for, and we were game. Without going into details that take away the magic of the escape room, I really enjoyed a few things especially about this room: 1) It has lots of techy clues. Most escape rooms have a dozen locks and things, but this one has items that you touch to other items and then they light up and something happens. 2) The clues are very artistic, literally. 3) The activities really engaged us, and for the record, we DID escape in time! This was a really fun outing for us, and I look forward to returning to try the hardest room!

We didn't make it out in time, doh!

As a four-person group, we decided to take on Poe's Chambers. The theming of this room is immaculate! Just the door to the room evokes the early 19 hundreds. Poe's Chambers really makes you feel like you're in the creative poet's home. I loved the overall feel! My fiancé and I were able to get the group through some of the puzzles, just due to our vast experience with rooms. I believe even our first-timer friends were able to see how we were making the connections and able to get their brains going too! I felt like we all really handled the room well and that it was friendly to them. There is one puzzle in particular I think E.R.A. needs to update. If it doesn't sit just so, it's easy to miss the clue. Though, everything else in the room worked flawlessly. Our game master was very attentive when we asked for two clues, though it took us a bit to decode her hints. We got out with 7 minutes to spare. I can see why this room would be an 8/10 difficulty. It's a fairly linear room, which I prefer when it comes to games. I've done rooms that feel scattered and those frustrate me to no end, lol. I do think a group of beginners might struggle, just a bit, in this room. Truly though, great room! I hope we'll get to go back again! 8/10 recommend

I'll be honest; this isn't typically my kind of activity. But it's been on my "I guess I should try…read morethis at least once" list, so when one of my new friends picked it for her birthday, I said why not...and I'm actually glad I did! We had 7 of us total (supposed to be 8, but one friend couldn't make it), and split into two teams: 3 vs. 4. BABY!!! Teamwork is not optional here You need communication, quick thinking, and a good sense of humor because you will be stressed and laughing at the same time. We went through 4 different escape rooms: won some, lost some, but the real win was the experience. The friendly competition between both teams made it even better. It was giving "we are NOT losing to y'all" energy the whole time Now let's talk about the finale...THE PAINT BOMB. The white hazard suits?? The chaos?? The fun?? 10/10. That was easily my favorite part. Overall, it took about an hour, which was perfect for a group activity, not too long, not too short. My only con: the communication about the photos/videos. Apparently, you have to opt into text messages to receive your paint bomb pics, and nobody clearly explained that. Most of us opted out because...hello, spam?? So my group didn't get our content while the other team did. We had to go on a whole mini investigation and track someone down, which wasted time. BUT I will say that the staff was super helpful, and the manager ended up finding our files and sending everything the next day. So, it worked out, but it could've been explained way better upfront. Also, yes, they serve food and drinks (including alcohol), so if you're trying to make it a full "outside" moment, you absolutely can. We skipped it since we had a late lunch reservation right after, but the option is there if you're trying to get a little litty... Would I do it again? Maybe not regularly, but for a birthday, group outing, or something different...

Trying to figure out who could help us, each team member seemed like it was someone else's job. When I asked who the forms were up on the screen they said oh thats a different team and then had to get the correct forms up for us. The lockers were super difficult to figure out and had to have another team member come over and help. The games were challenging not because of the puzzles but because of the technology used. in one of the games you had to put your wrist band up to the scanner but the scanner didn't work causing us to lose more time. The last problem was that the haz mat suits did not work on keeping the liquid out. I was completely soaked from the waist down. I'm not even sure how that was possible. I will pass on this experience in the future unless someone truly wants to go and I can be assured that the games have been fixed and updated.

I had notified them when booking that we were celebrating my birthday, and they put up a happy birthday background on the screen. Eli even took pictures of us pre-show in the game room. I was extremely touched by Eli and Britney's kindness and their above-and-beyond gestures! Britney presented me with a handwritten birthday card after the game show, and Eli gifted me with a t-shirt I was going to buy after the show. I hope they both know how special they made me feel; it truly warms my heart to have experienced their thoughtfulness, generosity, and kindness! I am FOREVER GRATEFUL and APPRECIATE ALL THAT THEY'VE DONE!! Now for the details: The game is an hour long, and if someone else books the same time slot, you may end up playing with random strangers, which we did. We definitely got our butts handed to us, but I still had fun! It consists of about 5-7 different randomized games. It's blue vs. red team, and the setup is in the style of a traditional TV game show, ranging from Jeopardy-style format to Wheel of Fortune, trivia, Family Feud, and Idiotest, etc. You really do feel like you're on a TV game show with a live host, buzzers, a big wheel to spin, and confetti exploding at the end! They do have some physical games; however, we had to forego those to be fair to the other team, which had a teammate on crutches. Britney was a lot of fun--super patient and considerate! I got a kick out of having to fill out the scantron with a big a#$ pencil. Make sure to arrive 15 minutes prior to your time slot. They have plenty of free games to play while you wait, and they have a bar to purchase beverages or you can ask for tap water. The Escape Game is also located in the building, and they have merchandise for sale, as well as merch for the Great Big Game Show. They have really cool shirts and hats available! At the end of the show, they offer 15 or 20% off your next booking. I'm not sure if there's an expiration date, but I hope not because I would love to come back. However, we live in VA Beach, so it's quite a drive. They do have restrooms. Parking is available in various parking garages among Georgetown. We paid to park in the lot next to RIMTANG which is really close.
