This was SO MUCH FUN! I decided to book an entire room for 10 people on behalf of my twin cousin's birthdays. I went with family and only 4 people from my party have ever done an escape room prior (myself included). From what I know, there's 2 Escape Quest Locations, one in Alexandria, Virginia and this Bethesda, Maryland location is apparently somewhat new. I had read some reviews and pretty much all of them were positive so without hesitation I decided to go along with this Escape Room company. They offer countless discounts when you book online and you even save more money when you can book or fill an entire room. It's definitely one of the more reasonably priced locations and because it is a newer facility the location was clean and well decorated. When I initially booked with Escape Quest, I made the reservations on the incorrect date and didn't realize until the next day. An employee named Hudson had contacted me both via email and left a voicemail on my cell phone to re-scehdule without charge and I did so almost immediately. I so appreciate the fact that they really maximize their efforts to communicate and help customers truly have a pleasant experience. I was so concerned that with such a large party, I may have messed up my opportunity to secure a time slot and would then have to choose another date or time depending on my group's availability. When you walk in, there's a step so be careful with entering. The doors will lead into another set of stairs and from what I saw, there weren't any elevators or an alternative way for those who are handicapped to go up. The lower stairs are blocked off, but I'm hoping they build more rooms downstairs! Once you go up the stairs, there's a soon to be bar area, a check-in desk and an ipad. Simply fill out your information and you'll be all set to play. Escape Quest advices everyone to arrive at least 15 minutes early to use restrooms, check-in and basically get situated before actually starting. I chose to escape "The Black Widow" which was definitely an interesting storyline and a bit creepy. They notify everyone that there isn't anything in that room that will intentionally scare or harm you so it's really appropriate for all ages in my opinion. My family and I ended up escaping at 52 minutes and used all 3 clues available. Technically, you can ask for more clues if needed but we wanted to try and limit ourselves to just 3. Before starting your game, an employee will explain to you their list of rules and safety directions as well as answer any questions you may have. Everyone is super friendly and their directions are straightforward. Inside the actual escape room is a place where you can hang your coats and purses too if need be. There's a $1 parking garage just behind the Escape Quest location (about a 5 minute walk but leave yourself 15 minutes just in case!), but on weekends it is completely free of charge. This worked out perfectly and I'm so happy that trying to find parking isn't difficult even when you're in Bethesda. This was so much fun and I actually would consider booking again soon for my own birthday party. Highly recommend!

Very nicely done! The live actor was such a nice touch to the experience. Will definitely come back.

Really polished decor in both waiting area and rooms. Challenging, but not ridiculous. Bar isn't open yet, but I will be glad when it is!

Tried out Escape Quest in the explorer themed room and had an amazing time - like a "my face hurts from smiling" kind of time.

    (166 reviews)

This was underwhelming and disappointing to say the least. My partner and I love doing escape…read morerooms, so we looked for the hardest one in the area. We saw Outbreak from Big Escape Room had a 9% or 19% success rate (you see both numbers written on their website so I'm not sure what the actual % is) and that they could accommodate up to 10 people, so we booked that one. There is the option to reserve the entire room, which we preferred so that our group could have the room to ourselves. I asked if there was room to store our belongings, and they had a room we could reserve for $$, but I was just curious if we had cubbies or anything. In general, the escape room itself is fine for storing belongings. - Logistics - Once we arrived, we had to wait until past our reservation time because they were still setting up the room and waiting for the group before us to finish. We ended up starting ~30 minutes after our reservation time, which became part of the reason we were late to our dinner reservation after that. On top of that, we were told there was a lock in our room that wasn't working, so they suggested we do the Clown room instead. We decided to continue doing Outbreak but told them to just leave the lock open, and only grant us permission to move ahead once we figured out the code. I had read reviews that the equipment wasn't maintained very well, and that was the first indication of that. We hadn't even started the room yet! - The Room Experience - Things were largely fine in the first room we were in, but again we found locks that weren't working properly. When we managed to get the code, we only got half of the lock open and then lowkey brute-forced the contents out because we weren't sure we were going to get the other side. Thank goodness the contents were small enough to make it out. The second room was chaotic. We also started to ask for hints once we arrived in this room, but our walkie talkie was improperly set, so I had to leave the room to find the staff to help us out. That took up time to set up, and the staff weren't sure where we how far along we had gotten, so that took up even more time out of our time limit. I couldn't tell if they were on their phone for work or leisure, but hopefully the former... The worst part comes towards the end. We had finally made progress, but the solution we got to the math problem wasn't opening up the lock despite the game guide's instructions that it would. So much time had run out at that point, including the time limit, during which staff came in to explain what went wrong for us. One of the staff members actually had not played/made the game, so they couldn't not walk us through the solution and instead needed to call another person to do that. They could have invested in more training for staff... When we finally got the explanation for the lock, it turns out they gave us the wrong formula for the solution??? How many people have done the room with the wrong formula? Why didn't the staff test out everything, including the formula, to make sure it actually works? Despite the many things that went wrong, they let us finish up the room past our time limit after identifying the error was on their part. Most anticlimactic exit ever, but an exit nonetheless. We were late to our dinner reservation already, so we decided we might as well finish this out. - Overall - The staff are kind, but this is not an escape room I recommend or will be returning to any time soon.

Beware! We showed up to play and the employee working there quit saying the place was a s***hole…read more Another disgruntled employee showed up and was very rude and abrasive as if everything happening was our fault. We had waited an hour at that point so we said we just want a refund. We were told to fill out the credit card authorization form and write "we did not play this game" to get a refund. Someone came out of one of the rooms as we were leaving and said "We've been asking for a clue for a long time now and this part of the Escape Room is not working". Exactly why we decided to not play. We called the next day and were told by Gregg, who I think is the owner, that it would take 7-16 business days to get the refund, which in itself is absurd, but we were trying to be patient and courteous. After 16 business days we called again and were told the refund was processed and they have no idea why we didn't receive it. That they are waiting to talk to "Brandon" who handles their accounts but that I am not allowed to talk to him or their billing department. They are unwilling to send us a refund check. Looking at other reviews I understand now the guy is a lying scam artist and we aren't going to get our money back. Not to mention trying to find this place was difficult enough. It's like being in an escape room just to find their office in the creepy business building they are in. That employee was right - what a s***hole!

I'll be honest; this isn't typically my kind of activity. But it's been on my "I guess I should try…read morethis at least once" list, so when one of my new friends picked it for her birthday, I said why not...and I'm actually glad I did! We had 7 of us total (supposed to be 8, but one friend couldn't make it), and split into two teams: 3 vs. 4. BABY!!! Teamwork is not optional here You need communication, quick thinking, and a good sense of humor because you will be stressed and laughing at the same time. We went through 4 different escape rooms: won some, lost some, but the real win was the experience. The friendly competition between both teams made it even better. It was giving "we are NOT losing to y'all" energy the whole time Now let's talk about the finale...THE PAINT BOMB. The white hazard suits?? The chaos?? The fun?? 10/10. That was easily my favorite part. Overall, it took about an hour, which was perfect for a group activity, not too long, not too short. My only con: the communication about the photos/videos. Apparently, you have to opt into text messages to receive your paint bomb pics, and nobody clearly explained that. Most of us opted out because...hello, spam?? So my group didn't get our content while the other team did. We had to go on a whole mini investigation and track someone down, which wasted time. BUT I will say that the staff was super helpful, and the manager ended up finding our files and sending everything the next day. So, it worked out, but it could've been explained way better upfront. Also, yes, they serve food and drinks (including alcohol), so if you're trying to make it a full "outside" moment, you absolutely can. We skipped it since we had a late lunch reservation right after, but the option is there if you're trying to get a little litty... Would I do it again? Maybe not regularly, but for a birthday, group outing, or something different...

Trying to figure out who could help us, each team member seemed like it was someone else's job. When I asked who the forms were up on the screen they said oh thats a different team and then had to get the correct forms up for us. The lockers were super difficult to figure out and had to have another team member come over and help. The games were challenging not because of the puzzles but because of the technology used. in one of the games you had to put your wrist band up to the scanner but the scanner didn't work causing us to lose more time. The last problem was that the haz mat suits did not work on keeping the liquid out. I was completely soaked from the waist down. I'm not even sure how that was possible. I will pass on this experience in the future unless someone truly wants to go and I can be assured that the games have been fixed and updated.

As a four-person group, we decided to take on Poe's Chambers. The theming of this room is immaculate! Just the door to the room evokes the early 19 hundreds. Poe's Chambers really makes you feel like you're in the creative poet's home. I loved the overall feel! My fiancé and I were able to get the group through some of the puzzles, just due to our vast experience with rooms. I believe even our first-timer friends were able to see how we were making the connections and able to get their brains going too! I felt like we all really handled the room well and that it was friendly to them. There is one puzzle in particular I think E.R.A. needs to update. If it doesn't sit just so, it's easy to miss the clue. Though, everything else in the room worked flawlessly. Our game master was very attentive when we asked for two clues, though it took us a bit to decode her hints. We got out with 7 minutes to spare. I can see why this room would be an 8/10 difficulty. It's a fairly linear room, which I prefer when it comes to games. I've done rooms that feel scattered and those frustrate me to no end, lol. I do think a group of beginners might struggle, just a bit, in this room. Truly though, great room! I hope we'll get to go back again! 8/10 recommend
