Wait...I know of no other Mexican place on the planet that can touch them. This is now a tradition and we go there almost every Friday night. We take all of our friends and family who visit us there and they agree. Some talk about it long after they have left town. We go to the Sparks location. The staff there is fantastic, Adrian the bar tender makes the absolute best Margaritas. Be careful - they taste great but will quickly make you stagger if you are not paying attention! ;) The chips and salsa are fantastic. You might get full before the meal comes. I love Murrieta's, I've been coming here a few years and have a few favorites on the menu: The Fajita Combo wrap - not exactly traditional Mexican, but the chicken, steak, and shrimp layered with beans, rice, peppers, guacamole and mushrooms just comes out perfect every time. Murrieta's ribs and corn on the cob - just trust me on this, different for Mexican, but very good! Carnitas - there's only one Mexican place in town that can cock up pork, and this ain't it! Gorditas - carnitas, carne asada, chorizo...they all come out great Taco salads - again, not traditional, but perfect when you're on a cut! My last couple of trips to Murrietas have just been okay. This last time I wanted to try something different. I got shrimp ceviche and a taco salad. The shrimp ceviche looked wonderful and it comes in a wonderful spicy green sauce. But the shrimp was not fresh and tasted quite fishy. I didn't finish it. The taco salad, on the other hand, pretty much rocked. Great grilled chicken, a nice taco shell and good spicy dressing on the lettuce. Their pico de gallo and salsa is also good. I'm not a big fan of Mexican food but Murrietas is my favorite place to go! They have two amazing locations. I usually go to the one in Sparks. They have good Pico de gallo and salsa for the chips. I normally order some guacamole to go with the chips (their guacamole it's very good!) A half order of guacamole is enough. One full order would be too much! The food I've tried here that I can recommend are the shrimp quesadillas, carne asada and pescado frito. If you are an enchilada person I can highly recommend the seafood enchilada! That's what everyone in my family orders . Oh I almost forget to mention that they have really good margaritas, very strong! My favorite part though, is the churros!! They have really good churros!! I love them!! Staff is friendly and nice, restaurant is nice and the bathrooms are super clean. It's always pack so I would recommend to make reservations during busy hours. read more

We usually only get take-out, (the service is horrible when you dine in. You have to ask for items 3 or 4 times before you get them.) and once home we have to remove the food from their trays, drain the grease, and then put on another plate. The enchiladas de Cameron: good. Oily. Tons of shrimp! The sauce is very tasty. Baja Fish tacos: bland. Get something else! Potato taco: yummy, but oily. Try the corn potato taquitos instead. Blackened Ranch Chicken Salad (Sub shrimp for chicken): phenomenal! Super garlicky, and delicious! Shrimp Fajitas: good! Lots of veggies- just like any other Mexican restaurant. My coworkers and their family decided to come here because of the good stars rate. First impression from the outside was "INSTAGRAM" haha i asked all my girl friends and they said the same thing. When we walked in they have their specials on a dry erase board. Monday-tuesday is 2 for 1 margaritas! I ordered 2 for me and my friend. They asked if we wanted blended or on the rocks. If we wanted sugar or salt on the rim. That was nice or them! We ordered the spicy cucumber but they ran out so we got a guava margarita with tajin and it was delicious. My husband and i ordered a dozen oysters and Menudo. It was all good! I was so tipsy at the end i forgot to take my left overs! No!!! Lol My coworkers also said they will come back becuse it was all good! Only one of my friends didn't like it because he didnt get more refills so he was left with no drink for a while. I was still with my margaritas so i didnt know he was drinkless or else i would have said something for him. To be fair no one check on us for a while and my husband had to order us more alcohol at the bar since there was no server. Food is generally pretty good and has kept us coming back for years, but I feel like service a little less than what it was a few years ago and as people who have frequented this location for many years it's sad to say we no longer enjoy our experience here when dine here. Also, I understand the climate we're in, but their prices have crept up quite a bit over the years and for what it is, there's not much value in spending their average prices on Mexican food. Terrible experience. Arrived at 9PM and there was no one in the restaurant, so there's no excuse for the terrible food and drinks that we received. Carne Asada Enchilada was disgusting. The meat was overcooked and the rice was crunchy. It's clear that they simply refried the food. The beans were also overly salted. My burrito was mediocre, flavor less and had fat in it, I don't think was was carne Asada, it looked like tendons so I actually stopped eating it. The chorizo fries were enjoyable and I loved chips and hot salsa, that was actually the most enjoyable part of my meal including my strawberry margarita. Since my meal was so unsatisfying I opted out on trying dessert, but I don't think I'll rush back for a meal, but I may be back for happy hour 2 for 1 margaritas. I have always gone to the Murrietas in South Reno, and got to try the Murrietas on vista and it was amazing. The enchilada sauce might be the same recipe, but the flavor at the Vista location has a much richer chile flavor and the enchilada's are cooked all the way through. Some time we get them with the cheese not totally melted all the way through. both stores the staff are wonderful and prices are great! read more

Very disappointing. Apparently, they are too busy, even to greet customers. We walked in, we were ignored. When I said to my dinner guest, 'not sure why they can't even welcome us', the person behind the desk said 'we're busy'. My response is if you are too busy to greet guests perhaps guests should take their business elsewhere. That is exactly what we did. We highly recommend Los Compadres, where we were warmly welcomed, they were very busy, but had no issues welcoming their guests. Los Compadres food is excellent, too! We decided to try this place because we had a "buy one entree, get one half price" coupon. There was about a 15 minute wait for a table at 6:30 pm on a Friday night. Place was crowded so that's usually a good sign! We were seated and immediately a server came with menus and warm chips, salsa, and pico. The pico was chunky and perfect! Salsa was a little spicy but good nonetheless. I had a pomegranate margarita which was very tasty. My husband had a dark modelo draft that was nice and cold. He had two tacos with rice and beans, one with shredded beef, the other with ground beef. I had the steak fajitas with corn tortillas ( you can choose corn or flour ) and they came out sizzling! Our first time at this murrietas location. We sat at the bar for some happy hour tacos and 2 for 1 margaritas. Happy hour is 2-6 , but the drink special is all day on Tuesday. We got 2 chicken , 2 beef. And 2 potato. Tastin good as always ! The dollar tacos are deep fried and perfect . Chips are warm and tasty. I took my husband yesterday for a nice Father's Day lunch. He has never been here before. It has been at least 10 years since I've been here. The service was impressive: very courteous, attentive and fast. We were seated and greeted immediately, got our waters and drinks orders in less than 5 minutes, warm chips and salsa came out shortly after. I loved that the server brought our small daughter's waters out in kids cups with lids. The server took our order promptly; and our lunch arrived in a very reasonable amount of time. Everything was very fresh and delicious. My husband had "camarones a la diabla" 10 spicy shrimps neatly laid out on a plate. Very nice presentation. He dug in and said it was VERY good. (He's super picky, so for him to have LOVED it, that's your sign right there) . I had a plate of steaming-hot shrimp fajitas that came out so hot they were still sizzling on the cast iron plate. They were also very flavorful. Nice, plump juicy shrimp with fresh grilled veggies. A really great hearty portion, just enough to fill us up. The plates were served with rice and refried beans topped with cheese. The sides were just ok. Nothing to write home (or Yelp) about. My Cadillac margarita was hands-down the BEST marg I've ever had. This bartender doesn't mess around. It was STRONG and not watered down like some other places. Well worth the $10. Overall, $50 for an amazing lunch with equally amazing service. I was wanting a Margarita so bad, so we decided on Murrieta's. It was about 5 or so on Saturday, there was a wait, so we ended up in the bar area. Took a few minutes for waiter to get to us, but they were really busy so not a big deal. Ordered a Raspberry margarita for me and a Modello on tap for him. My margarita was delicious. I had them sugar the rim instead of salt it, so it was super yum. We tore up the chips and salsa. Their pico de gallo that they bring to the tables is fantastic...fresh and scrumptious. You are given either bland pico or very spicy salsa with chips, the spicy salsa was ok, however I was the only person in my family able to eat it. Had the carnitas plate, very dry and disappointing. Our favorite spot! My husband and I frequent Murrietas because it is super close to our house, we love to sit at the bar and chat with the bartender while watching sports. We find it very cozy and charming, and the food is so so good every time. Portions are huge for me, but just right for my 6'4 husband. The chips are always fresh, salsas and hot sauces are all homemade. Opt for the more "authentic" dishes, as those are their specialities for sure. For example, their enchiladas de mole is amazing but the fajitas, just okay. Still, this is our spot!! read more

Love coming to Murrietas for authentic food! The family who owns this restaurant is so kind, and actually Mexican compared to some places. The bartender Mona was a catch. I basically let her order for me, because being a vegetarian who doesn't like cilantro, Mexican restaurants are kinda tough to order at. But they make things special for me all the time! To our Extreme Disappointment the tacos were smaller than an appetizer size, the combo fajitas were a lot smaller portion size and...I received a container of cilantro/onion and lime. Hi. Visiting from Los Angeles. I Googled nearest Mexican food. So my disabled mother and I came in. (She rarely gets out much). Very disappointed. She had Chili Relleno. Not good. Greasy! As if they didn't know how to make it. My plate was good. Enchilada and taco rice very good. Beans bland. Chips salsa good. Except it wasnt as fresh as it could be. There was a few of us in there yet the service was terrible. I kept getting up to get what I needed. They didn't check on us. WHY? It between lunch and dinner. We had to wait a while to be seated. After a friend and I got ourselves pampered earlier today, we both decided to have dinner at Murrieta's Restaurant & Cantina in Vista Blvd. Well, ladies & gents, let me tell ya......WORST place ever!!!!!! Food was great, margaritas were fabulous yet, never felt so unwanted and rushed! So of course, my inner Mama bear was awakened. I looked and asked for the manager. Spoke to him about my concerns and he apologized on behalf of his employee but, never even offered any compensation for his employees bad service. Shame on this place. Fabulous Mexican food! Generally we go to the South Reno location, and actually prefer the food a little more. This one is a little harder to find, but it's really really good. We get the fajita burrito and my mom gets enchiladas. 10/10 Genuine Mexican food. read more
