My favorite bagel spot in NYC! Love this location a lot more than the one on 23rd and 8th. Service is quick and the staff is friendly. The kalamata olive cream cheese here is to die for and the bagels are always spot on! A bagel with flavored cream cheese will run you $4.63 which is to par with most Manhattan prices. read more

First time I went here I was so happy. Vegan options like tofu cream cheese, eggless salad, etc? Awesome! Counter culture coffee? Double awesome! First time I got my standard order - an everything bagel with tofu cream cheese. It was so good! Next time I was in this area of town I knew I would be in a rush but really wanted that vegan nosh so I checked and lo and behold you could order online via their website to pickup. I selected what seemed like a good idea in my head- pumpernickel with the eggless tofu salad. Picking up, I waited by everyone else for awhile at the pick up end of the bar but they still needed me to sign my credit card slip so my order was waiting by the cash register instead. So I waited awhile for nothing but eventually they got me set up with my order. I didn't love the eggless salad, maybe because I have been vegan so long I probably forgot what egg salad is or it was but i just didn't love it. Tried this bagel shop along Avenue of the Americas near West 4th street. I tried the everything bagel toasted with cream cheese- the basic one i guess wanted to try their tofu cream cheese though. The place is busy but the staff are fast and efficient. If you love bagels, sandwiches, then stop by this place. There's a few seating area though. read more

The bagels here are amazing and they have all the works. I ordered the Sarcastic Sol on an everything bagel and it has Eastern nova scotia salmon, homemade whitefish salad, lettuce, tomato and onions. Absolutely delicious. The only flaw was on the staff-i asked specifically for my bagel to be toasted and it even says so on the receipt. As I got into my car on my way to work, I opened my bag and realized that it was not toasted. I also ordered a medium size coffee and it tasted off and my stomach was hurting afterwards. This breakfast was not cheap either- cost me about $20- the bagel was worth it and I do like this place but they need to improve on their service and coffee. read more

Murray's Bagels came highly recommended by a friend. I finally got up there and was able to try it out one chilly Sunday in February. It is a little intimidating ordering in the line, as I had some questions about what was on the bagels, but I got through that and ordered exactly what I wanted. A little over five minutes later, my order was ready. I got the gravlax and added onion, tomato, and capers to it on an everything bagel. It was absolutely delicious. I was a little nervous trying lox, but figured if I was going to do it, I would do it there. The fish had a great taste, the bagel was incredible and even the onions were finely chopped and the perfect touch to complete the sandwich. Inside, there isn't a ton of room, but there are about a dozen or so small tables, suitable for 2 people. I was lucky enough to get one right before my order was ready and able to eat sitting at a table. I ate quickly and felt slightly rushed out by the next guests as I wasn't done chewing the last bite and they were asking if we were done yet. Murray's Bagels was about 2 blocks from my hotel in Greenwich Village so I stopped in on a Tuesday morning. I ordered an onion bagel with scallion cream cheese and a small hot tea. The tea was blisteringly hot and there must have been 1/2 a pound of cream cheese on the bagel. I removed some of it. The bagel was absolutely delicious though. Crisp outside, chewy inside, blistered skin, everything you want in a giant NY bagel. I thought $7.75 was a little crazy for a bagel and tea but I'm not used to NY prices. Great bagels!!! read more

I haven't had a bagel in YEARS. I grew up in Queens and bagels were a staple of my diet. So, I decided to splurge last week when I was just an avenue away from these famous bagels. I ordered a sesame bagel with light cream cheese and tomato. Kept it simple. The bagel is huge and they are generous with the schmear. Tomato was ripe and good. I think that I should have had the bagel toasted...it really didn't have much flavor. It was also kind of hard and somewhat chewy. But - it was one of the coldest days of the year and I'll chalk it up to the short walk back to the office in sub zero temperatures. My colleague had a bagel with whitefish, lox, tomato...hold the onions. He loved it. Cost him almost $15 by the time he got a bag of pretzels on the side. Mine was around $8 - I also had a bag of pretzels and an iced green tea. Murray's was busy - by the time I was checking out, the line tripled in length from when I walked in. The service is rushed and harried - just like any other NYC deli. I'll give it a try again...and see if I can get a warm bagel. Makes all the difference. read more

Ah, when you forget why you stopped going somewhere, go again after a few years, and are immediately reminded why you stopped going. People working are unpleasant. They screw up the most basic order. It takes FOREVER for your order to come out. Why? The workers are in back shooting the breeze. They call out your number now (no idea how recent that is since it's been a minute since I've been here for reasons I'm now reminded of) but... don't immediately give you your order. The wait time at Murray's is excruciating. I'm not exaggerating when I say that you'll wait 30- 45 mins for your bagel. This is regardless of whether you order in the store or online, and regardless of the time of day. If the app tells you "your order is ready!", guess what -- it's not. It is nowhere near ready. In fact, no one behind the counter has even seen your order yet. It is clear that there is no established process back there -- no management or leadership of any kind to foster efficiency. Sometimes you'll look behind the counter and you won't see anyone preparing any bagels at all, while a dozen people are waiting in the store. The workers have no defined roles and no method to work through a sequence of orders. It's not really their fault... this is a management issue! Ever-time I come here and stand in line and speak with someone at the counter the order is incorrect. Either they forget the avocado on the sandwich, or they don't listen to a request to have items on the side. Maybe they are too focused with getting people in and out. Or their cashier just is focused on punching in the order. Whatever the reason if you want something specialized...best to order thru a delivery service or triple check the order with the cashier. The service itself was okay, they weren't overly warm but weren't so cold either. Probably the gloom from the winter weather. Got the tuna salad on a toasted pumpernickel bagel with tomato. Listen, Murrays obviously makes great bagels. Their toasting process is absolutely embarassing for a bagel shop of this quality. Even if you get double / extra toasted, the thing is barely toasted. One of the best bagels in NYC. Very chewy and dense. LOVED their homemade cream cheese selections. Each and every one of them are good and delicious. Texture was very gooey yet soft. Greeted the cashier with a Good morning & I received a look of disgust. This wasn't with just me. It was with customers before me & after me. I asked for an everything bagel, scooped & toasted,cream cheese, Lox, tomato & unions He lifelessly asked what kind of bagel & basically asked for each item I stated clearly the first time. At the end of the bagel order he repeated it back to me, I had to remind him to scoop & toast again. Eventually got the order and it wasn't toasted on the inside. Maybe someone held it under their armpit for 30 seconds. No onions or tomatoes. The most standard order on earth. This is the 3rd time at this location & the guy with me said it was the second time he's gotten this cashier. Same attitude at all times. I would have paid 25$ for a quality bagel & Lox. Apparently 17$ gets you a lifeless human with a terrible attitude. I will not be coming here anymore. Unfortunately this is what happens when management doesn't do their job. I went to Murray's Bagels for the first time today and ordered their "homemade turkey" on a plain bagel with lettuce and mustard. The price $11.00. I was expecting my bagel sandwich to be stuffed with turkey! Instead my sandwich had more lettuce than turkey, AND THAT'S NOT AN EXAGGERATION! The turkey consisted of VERY VERY THIN torn up pieces of turkey that was maybe an equivalent of two small VERY THIN slices of turkey! Their plain bagel is less than $2.00. I ate that darn bagel two hours ago and the onion is still omnipresent in my mouth. Kinda unappealing at this point and I'm perplexed to know if that means the onion was very good or very processed (bad). Slightly snarky service behind the counter from bagel puller to spreader to checkout man, did not prevent me from taking in the cute charm of the business, with the lighting & tin roof and such. Everything bagel lightly toasted with scallion cream cheese did not disappoint and the typically low amount if schmeared cream cheese was untypically fair, not generous, but definately fair. Many other spreads were available, all of which I've either seen or tried elsewhere, same goes for the bagel options so tgere was no Wow factor there. However, I was salivating upon reading tge smoked fish options, there must have heen fifteen different spreads. I know exactly what my return order shall be, bring on The Large Whitefish.!! read more

It pains me to write this bad review because I've been a weekly customer for over two years at this location. Pre-Covid and in 2020, everything about this place was 5 stars. Since the beginning of 2021 however, the pickup/delivery service has absolutely taken a nose-dive. I'm not sure what it is as employees are working non-stop during peak times. Orders are announced in bunches, the only problem is a majority of the orders called are not for customers who are actually there to pick up (most likely because the called customers have had enough and left without their orders). This causes a complete sh*tshow of upset delivery drivers/customers and very stressed, overworked employees. Today I ordered for pick up thru Seamless (BIG mistake). We waited over an hour for our order and never got an order time estimate despite asking employees multiple times. We ended up just leaving without our order. My tip for anyone who wants a bagel from this Murray's location: be prepared to wait a very, very long time or go there and order in person. read more

These are solid bagels, but nothing special. They tasted exactly the same as my local bagel shop in Reno, Nevada. If you're expecting these bagels to be any tastier because they're in New York, you'll be disappointed. But if you want a yummy, wholesome and fresh bagel sandwich, this is the place for you! I ordered the RIVINGTON STREET with no cream cheese on a bialy and an EVERYTHING BAGEL with cream cheese on the side. The Rivington Street was packed to the brim with delicious fresh sable and lox. The bialy was tasty as well; it had the consistency of an English muffin and had more flavor than the bagel. This sandwich was extremely satisfying. The Everything Bagel was okay, but certainly nothing special. The one flaw was that it had big air pockets in its dough. Other than that, it was just a bagel that was a tad tough and chewy for my tastes. Overall, their fish is very fresh and they have an extensive menu, but if you're looking for life-changing bagels, look elsewhere. read more

My son and I stopped into Murray's Bagels before we went to the Star Wars exhibit down the street. It was a very busy Saturday morning, but while the line looked daunting, it took no time at all between when we ordered to when we got our food. The tables turn pretty quickly (and there's outdoor seating, too) so we got a table right after we ordered. The bagels were flavorful and chewy (as they should be!), the cream cheese was plentiful, and the coffee was great. We got the feeling this was probably a neighborhood gem.
