Fresh food here - not the thawed-out frozen stuff found at chains. The staff are friendly and helpful, and the proprietor is often there working hard right alongside his staff. Two of our children have a casein sensitivity, so standard ice cream is unfortunately a no-go for them - I will never forget how adamant Shaun was to make sure that we could all enjoy Murphy's as a family, making sure to have sorbet options in a few different flavors, from opening day onward. He cares a great deal about his clientele, and works hard to ensure that staff convey that vibe as well. It is a joy to have this gem in town - we look forward to our next visit....and to the mini golf course opening! read more

The food here is quite great. The french fries are pleasantly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The icecream is very good, and you get a good amount for the price you are paying. They could use a smaller "kiddy" cone though. Something that makes me suspicious is the bathrooms. Just came here after seeing a photo of the fish sandwich. It was very disappointing, the fish was smaller than the bun. The onion rings.. the breading was separated from the onions, the fries are freezer fries, dry and flacky. 4 orders of fish sandwich, fries and onions, drinks and $55 later we we're still hungry. Just passing through and stopped because of the reviews. I had the lobster roll and a side of half fried onions and half oysters. The lobster roll was perfectly cooked and mixed with a tiny bit of shredded lettuce. It was great. The side dish of onions and oysters was more than terrific. I skipped most of the French fries, although they were excellent, and ended with a cup of soft serve vanilla to top off the best meal in a long time. Counter service was fast and friendly. This is our new go to! Love it for really fresh fried seafood and ice cream. The owner was super nice and even when they had just turned the fryer off the first night we went in he cranked it back up just to accommodate us! So nice. Went Friday 5/19/18 with teenage son. Had a bacon cheeseburger and son had a chicken sandwhich and we split an order of onion rings. Although at first glance given the number of patrons, thought this would be a long wait. Lines moved fast and our order # was quickly called out after submitting. And although there were a number of younger employees (awesome place to start out), they were sure to get my order right and ask what condiments to add to the cheeseburger and chicken sandwhich. The bacon cheeseburger. A darn good bacon cheeseburger. Not sure if it was a 1/4lb or 1/3lb but it was substantial. No wimpy cheeseburgers here. And the order of onion rings was substantial as well. Just had yet another fantabulous mean at Murphy's. We had the scallop dinner and the clam strip dinner and my husband and I shared them. I have to say it was the best dang seafood meal I have ever eaten and I have eaten plenty. Food was OK but the value and portion size was unforgivable. I also had a fish sandwich like a prior reviewer and it was way smaller than the bun. And a lobster roll which was tiny. And a kids meal, two drinks, and a side of fries. We were still hungry after. Nothing comes with sides. I think the lobster roll was around $20 without sides, since our total for dinner (not including ice cream) was $45. I guess I was wrong to expect anything like what you get on the cape - where you can easily get a lobster roll for $25 with twice as much lobster meat and a side of fries. Service was so so. They didn't give us straws with the drinks so I had to stand around trying to flag someone down. And then the food came out and I asked for forks and they said "they're inside." Doesn't really make sense, how am I supposed to carry two trays indoors to get utensils and ketchup. Would've expected that stuff to be outside, or for them to tell you it's self serve for that when you place your order so you aren't juggling a tray of food trying to go inside and collect your utensils. The ice cream is good. I would go back for that, but I won't ever get dinner there again. read more

Recently ate at this new restaurant in Ashland Ma and what a Hugh disapponointment! Ordered the fried clams but not sure what I really got. They were the absolute worst , burnt and all batter. Shame on you Murphy's this is New England you should know better... Oh and to top it off don't ask for an extra tarter sauce that comes in those tiny cups , they charge .75 cents each .....not kidding ! read more

Great food and even sweeter service. I love supporting local business, but what's even better is when those local businesses make you feel right at home the minute you walk in. My husband and I brought our 4 year old and twin 2 year olds out for dinner for the first time in the twins' history. We had heard good things about Murphy's and decided to chance it and take our 3 kids there just before 5:00 to "miss" the crowd. The place was already filled with people. We made our way to a table in the back and before I even put my bag down a man was there asking if we could use high chairs. He grabbed 2 and said, if we ever needed to, we could always grab a chair from where he grabbed them - it was the warm welcome we were hoping for. read more

A really fun and delicious treat. Went for an outdoor ice cream during covid. Plenty of parking, social distancing was easy, tables were well spaced and clean, service was prompt and courteous, and the ice cream was delicious. I loved that I could peek in during a downtime and see the teenage workers sweeping and cleaning up. Plus there's mini-golf. We've given this place a second chance multiple times. We've never gone and not had something wrong with our order. Nothing seems to be consistent. Every time we go it's different. Insane that no meals come with a side. We've always thought that the problem was that it's all high school kids who just don't know how to do things, but tonight it was clear that it was just high school kids who just don't care. I ordered 4 ice creams to go, 3 of them were the same. When I got home I realized that the whole order was wrong. We've gone here maybe 20 times since Murphy's has opened and literally I don't think the order ya ever been 100% correct. Sometimes it's a simple thing like missing some sauce for chick tenders, and other times it's missing a whole meal. In my opinion there needs to be a better system in play. It seems like nobody has an actual job title except for the cook (but then everyone goes to him for help). Tasty treat did things a lot different and I never had an issue with them. I think also that someone needs to be hired that's older and more mature that's been in the restaurant industry for a while that knows what to do. After having all the food orders being wrong, I told myself ice cream only, but now it seems as if I can't even do that. Tasty Treat was an Ashland icon since I think the 1960's and I wish Murphy's could be like that. I know they're still fairly new, I hope they continue to improve over time because they're exactly what this town needs. read more

The place looks great, friendly staff. Ordered the scallop plate and my son ordered the fisherman's platter. Let's start with the scallops, I paid Market price ($23 n change) they were not real scallops. It was monk fish. Most places mix in a few real scallops but not Murphy's, they went all fish. Such a shame. My sons fisherman platter ($22) was just all broken pieces of batter. We counted 1 scallop maybe 2 if you count the small broken piece. 2 big chunks of fish and what was suppose to be whole clams but was mostly clam strips. The onion rings were horrible. They looked like boiled onions because all the batter had fallen off and was just in a puddle of grease on his melted foam tray. Very disappointed. If you gonna charge market price you better have the real stuff. And don't try and deny the fact you aren't using real scallops ALL the time. read more
