    Great work on my car
    John I.

I normally do most work on my car myself, but after moving into a condo this is no longer allowed. I wanted to find a shop that would work on my e46 M3 the way I do as a very picky person. Saw the great reviews here, so thought I would give it a shot and I was not disappointed. I had done the initial diagnostic for my car, so knew what was wrong and was able to order the part in advance. I called to see when I could get an appointment for the work, and to my pleasant surprise they had me bring it in the next morning. I dropped off the car and was told it would only take about 2 hours to complete, which was exactly what it would have been if I had done the work myself. Once the work was done I was very pleased with the work done. Not only did they perform the work I needed, but did a full diagnostic to be sure there were not any additional faults. Than cam the bill, and again I was pleasantly suppresses at just how reasonable it was. The same work at the dealer would have been 3x more. The team there is also very knowledgeable and I learned a few thing I didn't know about my car. This will be my go to place from now on

Called Chris on Monday morning at 8:00 AM and he called back within the hour with the (very reasonable) estimate.

There is a danger though - you might feel a certain urge to smooch your mechanic in gratitude! Being new to Austin, and knowing I needed a engine remount I really just needed to trust yelp. I got a quote from two different, well recommended places, and trusted the reviews. With a quote of $431 for the engine remount, OTS was $135 cheaper than the other guy. I drove my car in, deciding that I basically had to trust the reviews. This is what I told James: "I really must depend on my car. I know the engine mounts need replacing. A tire I think is losing air, not sure about that. I sometimes have trouble starting the car, but I from what other mechanics have said it shouldnt be too serious. Ohh, and there is a check engine light. I have $750, and then I am tapped. Please fix as much as you can within that budget, and help me prioritize the rest". When I picked up the car - the engine remount was done. Several parts got replaced. It had two new wheels; a oil change and realignment. He couldnt fully diagnose the starter issue, except you guys, for a undiagnosed problem, it seems to have vanished. The car starts so much easier. Maybe something or other got tightened when they checked it out - I have no idea. He told me a few, very minor things that still need to get done, and then "within 6 months is fine". Then, he showed me pictures of parts and repairs, explained the details of why what needed to get done, explained his priorities for my car. My price tag? $699. Yes, below the budget, I had so boldly stated! Do you want a mechanic you can trust to be completely honest with you? How about one that will charge you simply what they need to get the job done? I can say this for sure - OTS are my mechanics! (and I will control any smooching tendencies)

Once I was moving, I only made it down the street before all power failed in my car and I had to coast to a stop. It is to my great luck and joy that I coasted to a stop in the parking lot of Oak Knoll Automotive. When I walked in, I was greeted by Bobby, who spoke to me like I was his friend and communicated clearly what he thought the issue might be, how long it would take and approximate cost. There were techs buzzing around the bays hard at work, so instead of making me wait forever, Bobby went out and took a look at my car himself and got it into the garage out of the 100+ heat. I ended up spending a couple hours in the waiting room (which was thoughtfully decorated and had plenty to read or watch) before Bobby told me they needed to keep the car overnight. This morning, I got a call from Bobby first thing where he told me the plan for the day and when I should expect to hear back from him. Like clockwork, he called me back to let me know my car was ready and gave me a price breakdown of the repair work done. All-in-all, this place was wildly helpful, communicated clearly about the work done, and priced fairly. Going into an auto shop as a woman by yourself can be intimidating, but this shop defies that expectation and rises to make for a terrific experience for all. I would recommend this place to my friends and family any day!
