If I could give them more than 5 stars, I would. I found them a few years ago, and since then, they've done a great job fixing my car every time I need something. I've had a challenging issue with my air conditioning (which is a thing that's known to go wrong in my car) and they've been great at communicating with me how they're trying to diagnose it and trying different fixes. It's an old-style, no frills kind of shop. I appreciate that they know cars and get the job done. Their prices are fantastic, and they're always transparent with their pricing, offering options for lower cost when available. Recently, I took my car to the dealership to see if they could do a better job chasing my AC issue, and they let me know I had an oil leak that would cost $1200 to fix. Being the skeptical sort, I took it to Motormania and let them know exactly what the dealership said was wrong. Motorman let me know there was no current oil leak, that the oil leak the dealership had showed me was dried oil from a previous issue, and that my car was functioning perfectly. I trusted them before, but I obviously trust them even more now. Basically, I can't say enough good about the folks at Motormania and I will always take my VW there. read more

Roger at Motormania worked on an electrical issue on a used 2009 Passat I purchased some years ago. I brought it in several times, because after each repair, the issue returned within days. Ultimately, Roger told me that it wasn't fixable, and had an cash offer waiting to purchase the vehicle as junk. At the time, I appreciated him going out of his way to make it convenient to get rid of the car, as it appeared I had purchased a lemon. About a year later, I had moved to Seattle area and started noticing regular TX toll tag charges to my account, on the same vehicle and license plate. Someone was driving my irreparable lemon on the toll roads, using my account. I'd love to hear an explanation for this, and if I'm satisfied I'll update my review. read more

In a world where many mechanics are deemed as untrustworthy/pushy and do a good job of showing it, Motormania off 620 in Austin is the complete opposite. They are honest, caring and we will never take our VW's anywhere else! Not to mention, they have adorable dogs, play Frank Sinatra while working and the OG owners are there everyday and are seriously the sweetest. I have never been treated so well at a mechanic shop, they wouldn't even let me plug in my own laptop cord, literally got on the ground and did it for me. Well, I'm not sure how often someone receives a 5 star rating for charging you the same but getting less - but that's what happened here. About 2 or 3 weeks ago I asked Motormania / Rodger for a quote to replace front and rear pads + rotors for 2014 Mazda 6. The response was $430. So I read that and thought that's a pretty good deal. We had called around and received quotes for the same from $600-$1000. I just figured they were reasonable in their labor. The reason I picked them was not because they were the cheapest, but because they were the ***only place*** that revealed what brand parts they used. You have no idea how important this is. I don't want cheap parts, especially stopping parts going into my wife's car! Most places said they use quality parts. If they can't tell me the name they are using the cheapest parts from autozone and they are CRAP. Anyway Roger got my business because he used good parts. That was my decision mark. Not price. I'm ild enough to know that cheapest usually isn't the best and most of the time you get what you pay for. So my wife takes here car there to get the brakes done. They tell her ahead of time ( on the phone) her appointment is at 1 and it will take roughly 4 hours. They also said they might have to replace the brake fluid for x amount of dollars. I forget the exact amount but it was reasonable so I said sure. Anyway she gets there and they inspect the fluid and say they it does not need to be replaced. ******Sweet! You know they are honest.******** Anyway, they drop my wife off at MOD pizza and Starbucks down the street and continue to work on the brakes. ****nice little bonus surprise - glad she didn't have to stay in the shops**** Anyway, when they are done, they pick her up and told her rears brakes were just fine and did not need to be replaced. ***interesting part coming up*** She got home and told me this and she's excited because her car stops smoothly now. She shows me the invoice and I was like WTF!?!?! They charged $430 to fix only the front brakes and that was the price quoted for front and rear. So I immediately called Roger. He answered and I explained the situation to him. He said that quote sounds awfully low but send him an email and he will look and call me back as he was driving at the time. I sent Roger the screen shot of what I asked and what he replied. About 5 minutes later he called me back. He said the completely understood why I thought they did us wrong. Anyway he explained that what he forgot to include in that response was that he didn't think back brakes would need to be replaced and total cost for front was that price. He also explained that he had to take a hit in some of the parts for that price. He asked what I wanted to do. I told him had I know It was that much I would have done the job myself. I did my truck brakes about a year before. We had a pretty in-depth conversation about this. He understood my point and I got his. I'm a responsible person. He asked what I thought was fair. I could have easily said $215. Roughly 1/2 the quoted price( front and rear cost is roughly the same - $430/2=215, this $215 for front and $215 for rear, but I also know that's not right as the parts were close to $200. He asked what I thought was fair as far as a refund. I said $50. He disagreed. He thought $75. ***again, honestly and integrity**** He could have said I'm good with that, but he understood the miscommunication and wanted to do right by his customers. At the end of the day, we paid more than anticipated. Had I know the "original" price from the beginning I would have done it myself. But I'm happy We came here. Will I be back, it depends on the job. However, can I recommend Roger and his company who do quality work? - absolutely. Do I think he cares about his customers? - absolutely. Does he only sell you in what you actually need with quality parts? - absolutely. He could have told my wife she need rear brakes and a brake flush but didn't. FYI, the dealer told her she needed them. So while a miscommunication happened and I did not get my original deal I'm still happy that there are sensible people out there which have honor and a great moral compass. The world would be a better place if there were more people like this. read more

German cars are as reliable as Japanese if you follow the maintenance schedule and common sense. I own VW and Audi and both cars are awesome. Turbo engines require more attention, especially in Texas, where summer heat adds more pressure on top of the modern engine precise engineering. I was looking for a place where people have knowledge and experience how to take care of VAG. Roger and Tom are great professionals and honest people. Reasonable price, original parts, everything was completed in a timely manner. I recommend this shop. read more

I've never had many issues with my car however this past year I took it in for an oil change. After the service the mechanic working on my car Tom (who was also a pretty fun guy imo) was able to point out there may be an issue with my rear wheel-- I needed a wheel bearing replacement. Im not too familiar with cars, but the owner Rog was able to break down what work needed to be done in a language that made sense for a newbie like myself. I was quoted at a fair price and had a reliable team working on my car. I also live across town, but the 40 minute drive is surely worth it when you have people you trust working on your car. I would trust the guys at Motormania with my life. And I guess in a way I do, since I trust them to work on my car - the screaming metal death trap that carries me to and from my life destinations. I have owned three Volkswagens. And as any German car owner knows - finding a mechanic that works on them and works on them WELL is nothing short of an impressive feat. After leaving my home state a few years ago, I knew I'd have to find someone new and after begrudgingly allowing Firestone, due to convenience, to change my oil for about a year (of which had the wrong model written on my car's file - despite how many times I corrected them) - I finally decided to pay a visit to the little shop I pass almost every day. The office is classic and quaint, guarded by a friendly Shepard dog (sometimes another little dog too!) and adorned with thank you notes from an array of happy clientele. Roger greets you, asks what they can help with, offers his input, and then heads into a more formal diagnostic if needed. Sometimes people seem like they know what they're talking about simply because they exude faux confidence, but with Roger you can tell that this guy is just genuinely knowledgeable. His best guess is usually right and if not - he's not far off. If I'm out and about and have a question or a problem - I'll call and Roger is more than happy to assist over the phone. Moving on from the office to the garage scene - I'm fairly certain Tom has done the majority of repairs and services on my cars. I've met him a few times, but they're a busy shop and I know he's often in mid repair. Despite the volume of cars they see, even my most complicated repairs are done in a day, if not less. I've lucked into walk-in availability for oil changes, and they're usually more than happy to take a quick look at a squealing belt or mysterious leak. Most parts are kept on hand, are genuine VW parts, and are offered with a warranty. I don't bother getting second quotes for pricing anymore with Motormania either. I know I'm getting the best price hands down - and even if not, I know at least it will be done right. I also know that if they're telling me a repair is urgent - it is definitely urgent - and is not just a cheap scare tactic to make me drop money on my car right then and there. Anyway, this is quickly becoming a novel, so I will cap it here. Motormania has been a blessing, and I'm grateful to have found such a respectful and knowledgeable shop for my VW here in Austin. Roger and Tom are awesome. I had an issue with a noisy tappet/lifter and was worried I'd have to replace the lifters and possibly other issues I wasn't aware of. Called Roger and spoke to him and after listening to me realized the car had sat for a week (I had to replace a busted steering wheel bearing) after an oil change. Roger said to let it run up to temp and it would probably be just fine since the oil had probably just drained down from the tappet. Sure enough... 15 minutes after starting the engine the noise was gone! I know my way around a wrench and do a lot of my own work, but for things I either don't trust myself to do or just have a concern that I may make matters worse I ALWAYS take my car to Motormania. They know their stuff, they're honest, and I wouldn't trust anyone else with my car. They could have made a hundred or so bucks off of this job by just telling me to bring it in... but they didn't... just shows how amazing these guys are! read more

Brought my 2008 Audi TT in with a difficult to diagnose noise related to the A/C. They spent time eliminating possibilities rather than just replacing parts. In all of our dealings with Motormania, I believe I've always gotten the straight story from people who actually "get" what it is to service and maintain a VW.
