If you are a woman, and worried about your car, being taken advantage of, or just "not knowing", you really should go see James! There is a danger though - you might feel a certain urge to smooch your mechanic in gratitude! Being new to Austin, and knowing I needed a engine remount I really just needed to trust yelp. I got a quote from two different, well recommended places, and trusted the reviews. With a quote of $431 for the engine remount, OTS was $135 cheaper than the other guy. I drove my car in, deciding that I basically had to trust the reviews. This is what I told James: "I really must depend on my car. I know the engine mounts need replacing. A tire I think is losing air, not sure about that. I sometimes have trouble starting the car, but I from what other mechanics have said it shouldnt be too serious. Ohh, and there is a check engine light. I have $750, and then I am tapped. Please fix as much as you can within that budget, and help me prioritize the rest". When I picked up the car - the engine remount was done. Several parts got replaced. It had two new wheels; a oil change and realignment. He couldnt fully diagnose the starter issue, except you guys, for a undiagnosed problem, it seems to have vanished. The car starts so much easier. Maybe something or other got tightened when they checked it out - I have no idea. He told me a few, very minor things that still need to get done, and then "within 6 months is fine". Then, he showed me pictures of parts and repairs, explained the details of why what needed to get done, explained his priorities for my car. My price tag? $699. Yes, below the budget, I had so boldly stated! Do you want a mechanic you can trust to be completely honest with you? How about one that will charge you simply what they need to get the job done? I've been living in Austin for several years and have never been to a mechanic shop where both customer service and quality mechanic work provided are exceptional... until I was referred to OTS! I recently bought a new (used and abused) car and brought it to OTS to have it fixed up for safe driving conditions. Apparently, it needed a lot of work done due to poor handling/maintenance/repairs while in possession of the first owner, therefore, costing more than the actual car's worth itself after all the repairs were performed. Here's to hoping the repairs will give life to this car for another 100K+ miles, lol. I bought OEM sensors on Internet and called OTS for the labor price. Spoke with James who is an owner. He is very professional, polite and nice person to talk. His prices are super reasonable. These guys have worked on my car 4 times. The first two times they beat other quotes by ridiculously large margins. I didn't even bother quote shopping the last two times. They came and towed my car to their shop when my alternator went out. James and Robert are downright great people, and do excellent work as well. I am updating my review to let everyone know that I wasted over $1000 dollars by going to this place. It's been almost a year since I wrote my review. I figured I would let karma take care of it and just forget this place, but after recalling my experience here, I can't let that happen to someone else. About a day or two after my car was supposedly fixed after the timing belt was replaced, the car broke down at a red light. Granted, they did give me a free tow. Great. After paying about over $600 on the timing belt, James told me I would need to get the radiator replaced, and while they were down there they might as well replace a part dealing with the A/C. At this point, I tried to see if it would even be worth the fix since the car was worth only around 2 grand. The exact words he used, and I remember them to this day, "The engine is still in good condition. It runs fine." Luckily, my wife inherited a few grand after a loss in the family, so we actually had enough to just get it done. I trusted his expertise, so I told James to go ahead an fix it. In the same amount of time, a couple of days later, the car broke down at a red light again. We got the car towed back to OTS. He decided that they would do some tests on it. When I heard back from him, he said that the engine was bad. He said he thinks its a blown gasket. He said that I would have to replace the damn engine. That is outrageous! Here we are, a year later still with only one car because we don't have enough money to buy a new engine and fork another 4 grand to him to install it. We totally got screwed from this place. Hopefully, this updated review will let people know to watch out for this place. They sound like extremely knowledgeable people, but knowledge does not equal integrity. read more

I have a Ford Mustang GT Convertible (which I love) and the heater core went out at the beginning of winter and I was freezing with no heat. I got several estimates from other shops to replace the heater core on a Ford Mustang GT and found out they were extremely expensive. Spoke with James of OTS and it was a very different story, found them to be extremely affordable. They did all the leg work, heck they even came and picked my car up from my house so I wouldn't have to drive it in the cold. They actually made me feel really special until I found out they treat everybody special and like family. Top notch guys, any time someone mention car repairs, I say to them, "Hey, I know some guys that can fix your problem" and give them the number to OTS.
