I wasn't as surprised this time by the location in a neighborhood, something that gives it a very welcome feel and suggests with the addition of a covered outdoor porch with picnic tables that this is a good neighborhood hang. I was late for lunch, almost two but there were some folks still finishing up. Good vibe, good music and casual atmosphere. I opted for the Takoyaki app which was tasty and not so burning hot that it scorched the roof of your mouth. Also the right amount of mayonnaise as opposed to often an excess. The Ramen Flight was fun in principle but I wouldn't do it again. I unwisely and perhaps naively assumed there would be mini versions of the full serving of Tonkotsu broth with Mayo, Thai curry and Szechuan with scallions. But it really is just the broth and ramen. Expected the Szechuan to have some heat and peppery lip buzz but did not. The Thai curry was super salty. Just missed some option of veggies and protein. Finally I would suggest not sitting near the front near the stairs to the kitchen. The spot has competing music soundtracks with two different play lists battling between your two ears.

YE Gurl Says: Hidden Vibes, Solid Bites at Speakeasy Ramen…read more Place: Speakeasy Ramen Address: 365 Ludlow Avenue, Springfield, OH Date: March 26 Accompanying the beau on a work day trip, he said he looked up a ramen spot to go to. So we pulled up to Speakeasy Ramen not knowing exactly what to expect, but let me tell you--it's giving lowkey, tucked-away gem with personality. A large house turned restaurant with a large patio and on a rather unassuming neighborhood block... I was taken aback. What we ordered: * Moto Taco * Takoyaki * Panko Shrimp * Thai Curry Ramen * Spicy Cheese Ramen (sub shrimp) * Lychee Ramune * Yuengling Total: ~$64 for two -- and honestly? Not bad at all for the spread. Let's get into it. The apps came out swinging. The takoyaki had that classic savory, slightly crispy outside with soft center situation going on in the traditional balls not the pancake style and the panko shrimp delivered the crunch you expect. Moto taco? Fun, different--definitely a good start to the meal. Now the ramen... The Thai Curry Ramen brought flavor--rich, warm, and a nice switch-up from your standard broth. But the standout? Spicy Cheese Ramen with shrimp I know... it sounds like it could go left. But it actually works. Creamy mac and chesse sauce vibes, spicy, indulgent--this is one of those bowls that's not traditional, but you're not mad about it either. Drinks were simple--Ramune for a little nostalgic pop, and a casual beer to round it out. YE Gurl Insight: This isn't your polished, big-city ramen bar--and that's exactly the point. It's got character, a little creativity, and enough flavor to make you remember it. Could it compete with spots in Chicago or New York City? Yes and it has even won awards and been in some food mags. This is how the beau found it. Crazy right! It's a strong showing. Final Take: If you're in the area and want something casual but not boring, this is worth the stop. Good variety, solid portions, and a menu that's willing to play a little. YE Gurl Says: Pull up, order a few things, and don't overthink it--this is a "try a little bit of everything and enjoy the ride" kind of spot.
