We've been visiting Mulan for 5 years now and it never disappoints. It's become our family favorite and I appreciate them providing halal meat options for those with special diet. Our staple is chicken hot wok, sizzling garlic chicken and pepper steak beef with fried rice. Their corn soup and west lake soup hit the spot. I'd recommend it as a family restaurant good for dine in and bringing guests. Food usually take 20 mins to come out on a busy night it can go up to 40 mins. Their sushi is not that great, Memphis has better sushi options around town. I would not recommend their delivery option as they insist on a tip on top of delivery fee. read more

This has to be one of my go to places when I'm craving Chinese food. No matter how many times I come here, I would always get the same three dishes. The Salt & Pepper Chicken, Northern Style Eggplant, and Young Chow Fried Rice. The chicken dish is flavorful and spicy. It's stir fried with jalapeño peppers, onions, and bell peppers. It goes great with some steamed rice. Yum! The Young Chow Fried Rice is simple yet delicious. The ingredients all tastes so well together. Ordered 100.00 of food for Uber eats , paid 20.00 for sesame chicken , got a box of chicken , which was plenty but they only give you a tiny , tiny container of the sesame sauce. It is not even enough to cover 1/4 of the chicken you get . So basically after one serving all you have left is the plain chicken with no sauce left. What's up with the change in dumplings? The last 2 visits we ordered dumplings, they have been disappointingly different. What set Mulan apart was always their homemade dumplings. This is our third time to visit this restaurant in Germantown. Last night will be the last. I ordered shrimp with lobster sauce and it was the worst meal I've had in a very long time it was more like shrimp soup with no seasoning whatsoever my husband had a Thai dish, which was infinitely better, but so hot he could barely eat it While we were there, there was a lot of joking around by the staff they even brought the green beans out of the dining room to clean them. We were there at prime dinner time on Saturday night. We never did get our appetizer. Surely there are better Chinese restaurants in the Memphis area. We are on the search for one. read more

It's ok. Just ok. I ordered the red curry, requesting it to be Thai hot because I knew their hottest would not be hot enough. I didn't get Thai hot. I got sorta, kinda, hot but nothing close to Thai hot. Quite disappointing. Now if it was anywhere near Thai hot, or within the ballpark, I'd give this place 4 stars. Maybe it is just having real Thai, Laos, Chinese, etc during my travels my expectations for authentic (or anything near authentic) food spoils this place for me. I don't know how this place has such high reviews. The food here is incredibly underwhelming. My boyfriend and I got lunch ordered from them through Door Dash. We ordered the Landis Roll (sushi), crab rangoon (that was almost $10!!) Two orders of (2) spring rolls, and the House Chow Mein. First off, the Chow Mein was $16, and only comes with white rice, so it's overpriced for the amount of food you get. And it's not the Cantonese style Chow Mein with actual noodles, it's the kind with fried wonton-like noodles with meat and sauce. But it had zero descriptions on the menu from DD. It was bland and what little meat it did have in it, like the chicken (or what looked like chicken) was chewy and overcooked. The Landis Roll, that I paid $12 for, was bland and the rice was literally just a goopy mess. I couldn't see a single grain of rice it was so mushy. It was smothered in spicy mayo so it was really hard to taste the actual fish. The spring rolls were okay, but slightly under fried so they got a little mushy once you bit into them. But the crab rangoon was fried so hard I could literally use it to knock on my nightstand without it breaking, and the crab inside of it tasted old. I could only stomach two before I gave up. They also only gave us one sweet and sour sauce for an entire order of crab rangoon and four spring rolls. We paid $50 for five items, three of which were appetizers... I should've taken more pictures but I was so mad how much money we wasted on this food I just threw it all away. I DO NOT recommend eating here. read more

Came here on Christmas, and it was super busy. I could tell a lot of people had a the same idea since the restaurant was packed! I ended only getting a portion of what I had ordered, but the food that I did receive was great! Since the restaurant was super busy, they weren't able to get a few people their orders but I'm grateful that they did refund the portion of food that was missing for me, at least. Overall, the food was good! The experience today wasn't the best, but I'm looking forward to coming back once it's calmed down - or just not a major holiday! read more

You really have to try to make Asian food this bad. I travel all over Asia for work and this place is a far cry from good food. Sushi is covered in mayo, and "traditional Chinese dishes" are absolutely awful. Meat is over cooked and tastes like it has been boiled.. Ordered from the one on Spottswood a few weeks ago and it was EXCEPTIONAL. Ordered from the Collierville location-big mistake. The General Tso's looked and tasted completely different from the other location. Like, frozen chicken nuggets and a red sauce. Went for a professional team lunch, very few vegetarian options available, I ordered the Mapo tofu and told the waiter to take out the beef from it, and when it came, it was lukewarm, the gravy didn't taste anything even after adding soy sauce and seasonings. It was tofu was dipped in oil, and most of the gravy was just oil itself. The waiter himself did a terrible job coordinating all of our dishes, some dishes came first the others came later so some people had to eat first and then wait for the other people to finish their lunches. True Chinese & Japanese food lovers know their dishes well I am sure. Mulan Bistro was voted #1 "Best Bistro" of this type in Memphis(2016). I visited during the lunch hour, so I will only comment during for this time frame. Seating was fairly fast for our group of 4 people and we had elbow room in our booth for everyone. They offer a $7.95 lunch Special which offers 4 varieties of soups(Egg Drop, Wonton, Hot & Sour, or Mixed Vegetable) a Spring Roll, and Chicken fried Rice/Steamed Rice. Also, one Entree Selection(16 Selections in total) of your choice from General Tso's Chicken all the way to Curry Rice Noodles(Chicken,beef, or Shrimp) is included. The portion size was not overwhelming to where you could not finish everything. I have visited other restaurants of this type where you had more food, but who likes to be sleep going back to work : / There is a TV playing in the Men's Room(ESPN), so I guess they must draw better crowds on weekends for the Die-hard fans who don't want to miss a play(Lol). Beside this there is a piano in the dining area, but no one plays during the lunch hour? As for the food, I have tasted more seasoned/spicy Mongolian Beef elsewhere, but I hear this is "More Authentic" style Chinese food. The food was mediocre... the steamed chicken dumplings were terrible, but the sesame chicken and lo me on were okay. Nothing great. The service was HORRIBLE. The waiter was so unfriendly, he literally shooed my husband when we asked for more sauce. He brought the dumplings out after our entrees came. And the soy sauce and sriracha also came when were 90% of the way done with our meal. Definitely would never come back here. I've been told that I need to write a more detailed review of this place since this is my most frequently visited Chinese restaurant. Mulan has a good mix of authentic Chinese and American Chinese. If not for Mulan, many of the previously exclusively American Chinese (Royal Panda, Wangs, etc) places here wouldn't have started making authentic dishes for foodies or folks like me who like authentic Asian foods. The service here is excellent. The folks here are really friendly. I've always had a good experience. The decor here is modern Asian I suppose with a piano in the room. There are fake plants, however. A "new" thing for you foodies to try: REAL HOT POT!!! The hot pot is $40, and you get a selection of 2 meats and 3 vegetables out of a huge list of ingredients. The hot pot arrive on the table, with your choice of just broth, mala (spicy) broth, or both with a split in the middle of the pot. I prefer the spicy. Unfortunately I can't eat this by myself or with just one other; it's a meal for a party of 3 or 4. In my previous review I mentioned my usual dishes. Yup, those are still my "goto" dishes, and I should probably add the Mao's Braised Pork and Beef Flank with Tofu to the list. That said, the authentic dishes here tend to be on the oily side. I've tried sushi here once; I would say it's definitely presentable and passible for the Memphis average. There is no good "REAL" sushi place in Memphis, with the most passable ones being Edo and sometimes Sekisui (not consistent). Sushi isn't supposed to be bulky, and we're supposed to taste the ingredients, not have it covered up with sauce. Better than nothing I suppose! read more

First time at Mulan with some friends. They've been open for 8 yrs and had currently changed their menus with a variety of Sichuan dishes. Its really good and I believe they have stepped up a notch for Traditional Asian cuisine in Memphis. Prices are pretty decent and reasonable. There is also a live piano bar in the middle of the restaurant. Something different and romantic. After around 8-9pm the karaoke becomes lively with customers singing while eating. Even the staff joins in later on. Can't wait to go back again! read more

After reading the reviews wanted to try Mulan ...found that they deliver as well. Tried a few dishes Kung Pao chicken, Hunan shrimp, General Tsos chicken , and a couple of appetizers. Seems like a lot of food for 2 people but was not sure of the portion sizes. Trust me will have plenty of left overs for a couple of meals. The meat to vegetable ratio is perfect. We have encountered some local restaraunts that will give u 2 cups or more veggies and like 2 pieces of meat... Came here for a work team lunch and it was really cool because we had a small private space set aside for us (near the Loos). Liked this aspect of the layout of this restaurant very much cause as it made the team lunch feel much more personal. One of the people at the work lunch is of Chinese heritage and so we left the ordering in his hands. What that means however, is that I don't know all the names of the dishes - I recall there was Hunang Fish, an interesting mushroom dish (mushrooms shaped like a stick), a chicken dish, a shrimp dish and finally a massive bowl of fish in hot sauce. So i do think that the chef is his sauces could have used a dash of restrain - there was one dish which had so much oyster sauce, it just overwhelmed the actual protein! So I was really excited to try this place because they have all my favorites - Hot Pot, Peking duck and Szechuan. We started with the crab Rangoon's and as far as Rangoons go they were pretty good. Now let's get to the Peking duck. Firstly the duck was cold. 2nd it came with white rice and shredded carrots. We asked for buns and the very nice waiter brought us some. The flavor of the duck was really good just cold. Lastly, the Szechuan chicken came out pretty typical covered in peppers. The peppers however had a rubbery texture (probably dried) that made them uninviting to eat. The chicken was good and spicy. So overall it was just ok! read more

One of my parents' favorite spots - good service and tasty food. They have servers who speak Chinese and are very attentive aside from 1 grumpy old lady who we haven't seen lately. My parents love the spicy boiled fish soup and generally order from the traditional dishes on the last page of the menu, able to be shared family-style. We went here for my sister's birthday. They put us in a room with a nice big round table with a glass Lazy Susan in the middle. It was quite nice. We ordered our food and our waters and a few drinks. The waitress was very nice. I got the Hunan chicken , which I'd never had hunan chicken before. It said spicy but I did not think it was that spicy. In fact I would not say it was spicy at all. The fried rice came out late but was still good. My mother ordered the shrimp fried rice and it was a huge portion. My sister got the fried wontons. She really enjoyed the sauce they came with. The wonton soup is good. The spring rolls are nice. Because it was busy when we went our water glasses were empty quite a bit but I do not blame the waitress. Overall I was not super impressed by the food. It seemed pretty standard for a family Asian restaurant. I also think it was slightly overpriced. read more

Ok this is the first time I have eaten here and I started not to after reading previous comments. This place is just simply amazing!!! The best Chinese I have had in a while!! The sauces were so fragrant and delicious. The rice was tender but not sticky. I had the General Taos chicken which was perfectly fried and was not soggy as I have had at other places!! They delivered larger than usual portions.. my husband and I both took food home. The staff was super friendly!! The only one thing I can say bad is they carry Pepsi products!! And I'm a Coke kinda girl!! Hahaha!! It is now my favorite place to get great Chinese food! They have quite the menu!! I hope you give them a try you won't be let down!! read more
