A very big store but the items they have in the store seems to be somewhat overpriced for the quality and feel for their products. They have items from pens all the way to clothing. This is a pretty big store with the usual Muji items found in other Muji stores around the world. While I love Muji products, for its simple and clean cut lines, I am pretty stunned by the prices in Vancouver. It is jacked up by over 50%, with many doubled of what you pay in the Muji stores in Asia. If you do travel often to Japan or to Asia, it may be better to just shop there. Well, unless you intend to buy big items like furniture. Final sale items are not refundable for either cash or store credit. So think very carefully before purchasing anything. I will suggest to do a quick online price check first. Even the sale items are still more expensive than in Muji stores in Asia. read more

I've never been to Asia, and I wasn't at all all familiar with Muji, the store, until I ventured into this large store located on the main floor of the mall. I was quite impressed with the minimalistic aesthetic and the lovely scents in the air from all the diffusers that were operating at the front of the store (good marketing ploy! It works to get people in the store, for sure). The product line is interesting: they have clothing, school and office supplies, kitchen dishes and closet organizers, makeup and skincare products, candies, tote bags and more. Like air diffusers. Everything appears very well-made but I was taken aback by how pricey most items were. I was most impressed with the pens and pencils and stationery items, but in my opinion, for basic, nondescript plastic containers and ceramic plates, I'd rather spend a fraction of the price and buy these types of items at Winners. The store is quite lovely in its design but for basic wares, I'm just not sure I'd shop regularly here. (I'd rank this store 3.5 stars, but I'm rounding up). read more

All of British Columbia seems to be flocking to this newly-opened Muji, so if you're curious but don't want to fight with the crowds, give it time to cool down a bit. Many people want to compare it to a Japanese form of Ikea, but both the prices and the quality of the items are a bit more elevated. So be prepared to pay more, but to also get things that are well-designed, stylishly minimal, and longer lasting. Compared to Mujis in Japan and the US, I would call this one medium sized. They have a variety of kitchenware, clothing, bedding, stationery, room organizer solutions (i.e. baskets and plastic shelving), and a small selection of snacks. The food is very candy-centered here (mainly marshmallows and hard candies), which is a bit of a bummer, as Mujis elsewhere in the world carry such a nice wider range of dry goods, teas, and other consumables. They also don't seem to sell larger furniture pieces here, like bed frames or chairs. One fun feature that I've only otherwise seen at the Muji Yurakucho in Tokyo is a large assortment of stamps that you can use to personalize any stationery, journals, or other paper products that you buy there. This is a fun way to create gifts or souvenirs for others. I'm not sure when the downtown Vancouver Muji is set to open, but in the mean time, head to Metrotown if you can bear the mall crowds. read more

Just opened this weekend. Line ups were crazy. Waited for 45 minutes. Muji which means "No Name" in Japanese is a retailer with a wide range of generic products, including apparel, home goods, stationaries, treats, etc... The store was well organized and neat for sure. Staff seemed friendly and there was no pressure from them as well unlike other stores. We went in just to see what kind of selection they had to offer. We ended up not buying anything. I would say the price was pretty high considering it is a no name brand. Although I did see a cool organizer for sunglasses. It was clear plastic with 4 drawers where you can place your sunglasses in. Worth to take a look at least once...maybe when the crowd dies down. read more

[Japanese Ikea] I've been to various Muji locations around the world and I find its pretty similar merchandise and pricing no matter where you are. The metrotown location is larger than most and even have a section for clothing. It was all pretty plain and cost a pretty penny. Their quality is good but I found it hard to justify shelling out $70 for a pair of plain sweats. The same goes for a lot of their housewares too. The place isstill pretty busy as its still a novelty but I suspect that'll die down soon. All in all, its an ok place to peruse and pick up a few knick knacks but dont't expect to come out with a ton of stuff. read more

**Unique shopping experience comes to Vancouver** Should you be interested in Muji? I first visited one in Hong Kong, it was all the rage back then too. The store in Metrotown sells a variety of household goods and stationary. They style is very minimalistic and simple. It is easy to have these products whether it is a basket or a toilet brush fit in with the decor of your house. If anything, the stationary is quite nice and gives you a nice zen feeling using it. Because the store is new, it is very busy, but this will change in time and hopefully it will just become somewhat busy. The cash line up is processed quickly, it was just difficult to browse certain items, especially the stationary with the crowd that had formed around the display. I wouldn't make a trip of it, but if you are already in Metrotown, it's worth it to drop in and see what it's all about. First time stepping into this store as I usually do not walk past this section of the mall. There was a little bit of everything. The minimalist look was great to look at but I found most of the items overpriced. Skin care items had an English label stuck over the Japanese label and there are more established brands here for less with better presentation. Clothing was also pricy and I found it it difficult to spend $130 for a convertible scarf/cardigan. Kitchenware was very overpriced as I could easily buy cheaper chopsticks and spoons elsewhere. It was the small snack section and pens that excited me. I ended up buying a bag of marshmallows ($3) and tested out the different pens ($2). Definitely the more affordable and worthwhile items I would return for. read more

This Muji is a lot more expensive than Muji in Japan, which is unfortunate because Muji is about quality and reasonably priced. Muji sells home, office goods, snacks, skincare and clothes without any branding, though this concept is not new at all. Their home and school office are designed to be simple and reliable, such as their very popular pens. Some of their clothes don't function for what they're suppose to do. I need an extra jacket, and I tried on their made in Vietnam water-resistant hooded jacket which was 200 dollars and I had serious trouble zipping up the zipper at the insertion pin location. It was a waterproof zipper which was first invented by Arc'teryx in the 1990's and I never had this much trouble with such a zipper. Personally, I would rather shop at Ikea or Daiso for a lot of the products that they sell at this store. I would only shop here for something unique, and I can't find anywhere else. Also, the clothes and accessories at Uniqlo -- which is also in Metrotown -- are superior to Muji at a lower price. read more

Think I heard "Hello, welcome to Muji" at least three times while I was there for 5 minutes. Everything, especially clothing, is so earth-toney but that's just how they roll. If you're looking at men's jeans for a size 34 or above you're outta luck, also if you're looking for anything other than skinny fit, sorry they just don't believe in it. Muji really needs to train thier employees on customer service. Had I realized that exchanging items previously purchased would be a colossal headache, I would have never gone here in the first place. The clothing items purchased were the wrong size. I returned with the unopened packages thinking it would be a straight swap. Some items weren't in stock... fine, I'd just get a refund. The other items I just wanted a straight exhange. I spoke to one muji associate, 'no problem', was what he said. I take it up to the counter and the cashier says no returns. After trying to explain that her co worker ok'd it, she gets the manager. After waiting 5 minutes for him to come over, as predicted, he gives her his blessing. The cashier then starts preparing items for refund. I try to tell her that there were items I wanted to exhange, I get interrupted saying 'hold on a second'. Once she goes through the receipt she says, 'these items aren't on the receipt (the items I wanted to exchange)' I have a look on my face like, 'no s#%t, I tried telling you I wanted those exchanged but you refused to listen' Active listening is something these folks need training on. They've got three cashiers for 1 long queue for people wanting to buy stuff. Not going back. read more

The prices are reasonable as the quality is good however I haven't been to their other locations so can't provide a comparison but from what others have mentioned, the prices at this location is higher. Muji is for those who love minimalistic anything. That's me. They have all your housing items, clothe items, but the best part is their stationery. They have the greatest assortment of pens and notebooks that I love so much. This place is definitely a preference of what you like though. If you're not a minimalistic person who likes simple, aesthetic things, then this store probably isn't for you. Been to several Muji in Japan and it seems funny this is the biggest one I have visited and is in Canada! Wide range of household, stationary, and misc items including clothing. Not a cheap place and the relentless white and tan dominant colours sorta bore me. Anyways, my kids love the stationary and there are always staff readily available to answers questions so score on that. read more

For a brand known as great quality and reasonably priced, Muji Burnaby fails at the pricing part. Most of the items in the story are marked up 150-200% compared to how they are priced in other regions. To give a few examples, there are bowls that are labeled 450yen, which is about $5 CAD today, that are being sold for $12.99, plus tax. There are other items in the store with European pricing tags marked for 6.99 euro and 5.99 gbp, which are 20% VAT in prices, that are sold for $12 CAD, tax additional. If Muji is going to treat the Canadian market as idiots, don't bother going there. Major waste of time. read more

I am giving my experience at this particular Muji 2 stars because the Manager did come and speak to me in a polite manner. I thought the cashier was very unprofessional as she gave me a one-word answer and just glared at me. Some training is needed on how to speak to customers so that they understand why something cannot be possible, instead of just giving me a "no" as an answer. there was some interesting minimalist items but i honestly felt that prices were like 30% more than they should have been. many of the products looked like they would not wear very well or wash well. french linen stuff already looked raggedy and it was new on hangers. i thought the clerks straightening stuff around the floor were a bit humourless. very confusing patterns on the floor to keep traffic flowing in one direction but its really hard to do in a store that's designed to browse. this is not the fault of the store but i think the layout needs a rejig if they wanted to create a more congenial covid shopping experience read more

Horrible. Poor customer service - just lots of kids standing around and saying 'Hi!' but if you ask them about anything, they are totally clueless. They need to run and get the manager for every little thing. And the manager is not much better either. All those items they are selling as 'final sale' are 'final' for a reason. They are crap. You are not getting good Japanese products, you are getting cheap Chinese knockoffs at Canadian prices. Go to Daiso or any other store that sells similar items and you will pay up to 50% less for almost identical items which are of much higher quality. Also, their stationery items which are placed in a way that would make any customer think they are all from one set are actually not. You buy a binder, some paper with holes on the side, and some plastic sleeves and once you open the items and start inserting them you will realize that the paper was NOT made for these binders, and neither were the plastic sleeves. The paper HANGS OUT of the binders (at the bottom) because the holes in the middle are far too big, and the sleeves HANG OUT of the binders because the binders are just a tad too short on the right side. Avoid at all cost. There are many other places in Vancouver and Burnaby where you can get much better products at much more reasonable prices, and certainly better customer service. read more

I was really excited to find this in the mall. I have been hearing so much about this place from some of my friends who have talked this up in Japan. Some of my Japanese pen pall friends would send me some stuff from there. I love their notebook and pens, therefore, this is the first section I went to. Yes I am one of those people who still writes with a notebook and pen. There's lots to look at. I got some $3 to do some crafts with which is cheaper than Michaels. The prices for most things are very reasonable for what they are. I know that it is cheaper in Japan but there is a lot to factor in exchange and rent. It is still very reasonably priced. I went in last night (Apr. 23rd) around 7pm. I noticed they were playing Celtic music in the store. When I went to pay for my items, I asked the cashier (a young, South-East Asian girl) what the name of the band/playlist they had on. She sarcastically asked me "why, do you actually like this?". I told her yes. She then replied "Oh. We can't stand this music. We have to listen to it every single day.". I told her I quite like it as I grew up with it and play it, myself. Laughing through her words, she asked a male co-worker if he could find out the playlist. He smiled politely and went to the back to find out. As I was waiting for him to return, I heard the lady and the other cashier laughing behind my back. Another man walked up and asked if I needed any help. As I was about to tell him I was waiting to find out the playlist, the same cashier cut me off, and said "Oh don't worry, he's just waiting to know what this music is. He actually likes it". As she finished her sentence, she fell onto the counter, laughing. Being absolutely embarrassed from getting made fun of for liking the music, I quickly left. With such rude, impolite, and unprofessional behaviour, I will not be returning to Muji again. Working in retail, myself, I am absolutely appalled that she treated a customer as she did, and that none of her co-workers stepped in to stop or say anything to her. read more

Today, Sunday December 17, 2017 I went to the MUJI shop at Metrotown Burnaby. I was under the impression this was a Japanese merchandise store however when I picked up my first item to look at I noted "made in China" label. Very disappointing! I spoke with a store clerk inquiring as to whether other shop items or all merchandise being displayed was made in China. She had no idea so I said I would take time to look around. Well I did find some things made in Japan but a lot more made in China. I thought the items from China were overpriced as well as some other things in the store too. I bought a couple of stationery items made in Japan but that was it. I will probably not return to shop here again as items I like I can find elsewhere in Vancouver for less cost, such as the Daiso brand. I have been shopping at Muji for 10 years when I lived in Tokyo. I am so glad they opened their first store in BC. Exchange rate does not bother me at all as I know quality of their product is excellent. It is worth it. Stainless steel grater works like a miracle. Grated ginger turns out so fine and it is easy to clean. Line ups were crazy as it was just opened but again it does not bother me. :-). Pens, pencils and notebooks are a good buy. Avarage Canadians may have problems with clothing items due to size differences. read more
