Update: another great visit to Mudbugs. Thus time I brought my friend from Ohio to have a lunch. She ordered clam strips, said they were quite delicious. I ordered a soft shell crab sammich, also was lovely , juicy and full Of flavors. Wasn't too crazy about gator bites, very were very small , but had decent flavor to them. Overall, good visit, friendly and attentive service by the upstairs bartender: )
We had a nice lunch at this new to us New Orleans style restaurant. There's patio seating, downstairs seating, and upstairs seating. You can see the NOLA theme throughout with iron railings and decorations and the menu. We had good service. She told us that they are known for their oysters. We ordered a dozen chargrilled oysters. They had Parmesan and garlic butter on them. They were wonderful. We also had an appetizer of fried green tomatoes. They came with a horse radish sauce. They were okay. I prefer a flour coating vs cracker meal. After those two items, we had a half order of dessert beignets. Served hot with a lot of powdered sugar, these were delicious. We look forward to trying more of their menu.
My wife found this place on Sanibel Island which features Grilled Oysters...our destination lunch stop for today. They have rebuilt and come come back from a devastating hurricane. Our server showed us how high up on the wall the water had risen during the storm. The place has a welcoming New Orleans decor and vibe. Lots of specialty cocktails, including the infamous Sazerac. (We visited the Sazerac Museum when we were last in New Orleans) I chose a draft Stella to go with our meal. We looked over the menu, and yes the Cajun Grilled Oysters were our choice. We shared a dozen along with an order of fried Green Tomatoes. The oysters were delicious. The tomatoes had a heavy breading. We finished off our lunch with a half order of Beignets which were spot on delicious! Deserves repeated visits for sure!
Food was great, mufalta sandwich, crab stuffed shrimp, jambalaya, blackened fish bits. All were excellent. Service was very quick, live music
19 March 2026 My friend and I went to Mudbugs Cajun Kitchen for dinner. Naturally the place is crowded, and LOUD ! ( snowbirds) Interesting decor. NOLA themed food , Cajun style , spicy. I had the crab cakes ( spicy ) My friend had the Grouper. This place is packed. A line outside waiting to get into the joint. Good thing we arrived early. No waiting and plenty of room in the free parking lot. As we left we noticed the parking lot was full. The restaurant has a wrap around balcony with outside seating on the second floor with outside patio dinning , also wrap around. This place is all filled up. Yup , come early if you don't want to wait for a table. The food is good. The place is nice. The customers are mostly seasoned citizens. Our server , Isabella , was attentive , polite and friendly. She explained everything on the menu including the special of the day. We might just make a return trip here. But ... we will come early !!
We went to Mudbugs for the happy hour oysters and they did not disappoint. Chilled and flavorful. The service was quick and friendly. $3 local drafts were a bonus. Restaurant had a great New Orleans feel.
What a cool place. We spent the morning on captiva beach and spotted this place coming. We had an amazing lunch for $60. The bartender was great. Service was fast
I phoned first and asked if they allowed dogs and was pleasantly told we'd be welcome in the outdoor "dog park" area. Great little spot! We started with Crab & Corn Bisque, delicious! Then on to Peel and Eat shrimp boil which was amazing. Plenty of shrimp, some as large as six inches long. We really didn't have room for dessert, but a lady at a table next to us suggested the beignets. Hot and tasty with raspberry sauce, caramel, and chocolate. This is a restaurant I would love to keep coming back to until I tried everything on the menu. It all sounded so good.
Definitely one of the best piña colada's I've ever had it was creamy and sweet without overdoing it. This is a large, open two floored space was an indoor outdoor bar upstairs and with outdoor seating. The service was attentive and spectacular. Had my first boudin balls experience. They were perfectly fried and moist in the center. Shared the blackened shrimp platter plate. The shrimp were well seasoned and tender. Got sides of the dirty rice, jambalaya and Maque Choux while good were not my absolute favorite. When return here again to try more menu items and get the pina colada again.
The Shrimp Boil was loaded with Shrimp and was served up with potatoes, corn on the cob, and potatoes....and I devoured all two pounds (Take that Man vs Food!)...I definitely need to get lessons on the correct method to use on peel & eat shrimps though! Terri ordered the Blackened Chicken Salad and said it was just spiced to her liking! The Sanibel Breeze and The MudBugs Mojito were nice finishing touches. Bryan, our server was fantastic and gave me some tips on dealing with the Peel&EatShrimp method...but as I said it needs a little work yet. The New Orleans decor was perfect and the live music from upstairs wasn't too loud and so added to the lively atmosphere.

Went here for dinner, and the parking lot was packed but there was plenty of seating inside and outside. We were seated upstairs, right between the musician (was good but so loud we couldn't hear each other or the server) and the restroom (one person unisex so anyone waiting was staring at us) They have a happy hour menu with drink specials and appetizer desks 3-6. Our server was Daniel who took a bit to come to the table initially, snd forgot to bring our drinks and we had to ask him for them as the appetizer was already half gone , but he did a good job otherwise. We got the fried pickle fries that were great. I had the grilled shrimp platter with mashed red garlic potatoes and seasonal vegetables. Everything was delicious but the vegetables were cold. Portions were good sized and prices were Island reasonable. Will add this to our rotation list for when we're here.
4.5/5. Food 5/5. Service 5/5. Ambiance. Authentic New Orleans decor. Super fun with Mardi Gras beads included. We stopped to sample a few small bites and were not disappointed. We ordered the charbroiled oysters and were so good, we ate up before I could snap a photo. Perfectly cooked. The shrimp 'oh-my,fries a margarita and an orange cream cider in the can. I definitely recommend and wish there was more space in my tummy to try more.
Returned for happy hour about 5pm another day. Quickly seated at requested outside. We ended up ordering so many appetizers, we did not leave room for dinner. Loved the huge, tender peel and eat shrimp, grilled oysters first time and now a favorite of mine. I was surprised the crab corn chowder at happy hour price was a huge bowl...which we all enjoyed. Drink specials and ended with beignets....need to go back to try the entrees. First visit for lunch.Wanted to try their sweet beignets. They open at 11am. As we pulled into parking lot. Sign says 9am-11am beignets and coffee to go. The atmosphere does a great job of giving that NOLA feeling. I ordered glass of white wine while my guest tried the Swamp Water alcohol beverage, great concoction with melon liquor. Coconut rum and other flavors. We split the order of 6 sweet beignets...so good!!! The waitress asked if we wanted chocolate. Raspberry or caramel sauce on the side. We said Raspberry. Split the grilled watermelon salad. First. All the beignets sauces are sweet would have been interested had the sauce been tart. Only a slight charge of fifty cents, but we didn't use it. Just enjoyed the powdered sugar beignets. The salad was a large portion. Unfortunately the watermelon did not have much flavor. We plan to return for dinner to try some main courses. read more
We came here several times on our 13 day trip here. We discovered it from reading reviews. If you like fried oysters these were the best. The fried oyster poboy was packed full of oysters. The werent over cooked or greasy .. amazing. I liked the crawfish etouffee.. but I'm a spice whimp. The char broiled oysters were also delicious.. only place beside new Orleans that we've found some we liked. They had live music for lunch and dinner. Liked the music and the noise level was perfect. Still could have conversation without any effort. read more

This place was amazing ! I planned a day trip and was looking for something good the day we arrived. I came across this restaurant and i'm happy i did ! The food was all perfect and it came out very quickly . The inside was very beautiful and it felt like you were literally in downtown new orleans. Our server was Othmane, he was very attentive and gave us plenty of time when we needed it , he recommended the deserts to get and it was overall a great experience, we will definitely be back ! read more

My friend and I made a stop here after a Sanibel beach day. We had the best time! Very fun New-Orleans-esq vibe. The bartender and fellow patrons were all so friendly. Always love seeing local beers on the drink list! We ordered three dishes to share: lobster bisque, mardi gras shrimp, and the garlic beignets. Everything was to die for! We also got an order of the sweet beignets to take home. We sat out on the patio area at the bar and enjoyed the sun and the breeze. Absolutely lovely stop in Sanibel! read more

If you stop in Sanibel check this place out. We came in for happy hour and ordered just about everything on the menu. The corn chowder was amazing. Chunky corn in a smooth chowder. The boudin balls were probably my favorite. Light fried and filled with rice and pork. Drop them in the provided sauce and they are fantastic. I also tried some grilled oysters. They had parmesan on top and were awesome. The grill flavor really came through. Only problem was they left the doors open so flies were inside. I had to swat one off me every ten seconds and that is not an exaggeration. Close the doors next time and keep the flies out. read more

Was wanting to come here pre Ian, never made it, so happy you're back open! Exquisite decor. Just like the French Quarter! We sat on the upper balcony & the weather was so nice, just beware after the sun sets you'll see the no seeums or mosquitoes. We had the char grilled oysters sooooo good & the beignets with the garlic & Parmesan OMG. My gf got the snapper blackened she said it was delish & me & hub split the crawfish etoufee with a scoop of jambalaya on top. We also had a bowl of the gumbo soup. Took an order of regular beignets home. Everything was soooo good, there's no where else you can get Cajun/creole in SWFL. Our waiter was outstanding also. We found a new place & will drive from the Cape which is 40 minutes. read more

The service here is amazing and the decor is perfect. The food is a bit lacking. Étouffée was over seasoned, and the Boudin balls were bland. The Mardi Gras shrimp was amazing, close to bang bang shrimp. My husband, fried shrimp was overdone. Overall though would go back and try something else. read more

I have been to visit MudBugs a good handful of times now since I discovered it. I will not skip it each visit to Sanibel. Great service and excellent food! The oysters make me feel like I'm sitting outside in the French Quarter sipping a Hurricane. The fish taco appetizer was excellent as well but I could live off the chargrilled oysters. read more
I have been to Sanibel quite a few times, but just recently went to Mudbugs for the first time. Been missing out! Great food, unique decor, awesome atmosphere! We caught the tail end of happy hour, which was nice. The mojito cocktail I had was awesome! All the food was extremely fresh. Their fried calamari was served with a sweet and sour sauce - excellent! Worth the drive out to Sanibel for. Plenty of parking and didn't have to wait long for a group of 6! read more

Always a good time at Mudbugs. I don't like super spicy Cajun food, but the shrimp Alfredo pasta is out of this world. They usually have live music which adds to the ambience. The owner is friendly and happy to please, as are all the staff. Good for couples, families, business mtgs. Casual atmosphere. read more

I ordered chargilled oysters and Bayou shrimp which was really good. The oysters fantastic. Our waiter was really nice it ended up getting cold outside we asked to move inside and it was no problem. The setting there is nice they have live music, they have lights hanging all around which is really cool and beautiful to look at I'm hoping we go back I forgot to bring my phone to take pictures but I hope soon I can post some. Consistently amazing. We have been multiple times and never a bad time. The food is absolutely delicious always. I love the boudin balls and the shrimp are enormous. Happy hour is until six and the grilled oysters are out of this world. Everyone is friendly as well. Come join the party!!! read more

We came in hungry after a big day -- we left with full bellies and lots of memories and smiles. This place is phenomenal! The food was outstanding and the service terrific, too. We got to watch a beautiful sunset on the balcony, loved everything we ordered, and if we ever find ourselves on Sanibel again, we'll be back and hopefully with a fish we caught ourselves! read more

Come for authentic Cajun quality food. Amazing atmosphere with live music on the evening we were here. My daughter asked if she could try a crawfish (none of us had ever had one) and Ron brought some up with butter and taught her the proper way to crack and eat a crawfish. Another restaurant my husband chose to eat at!! He was dying for Cajun food! We arrived not long after they opened (3:15ish) & were seated right away. New Orleans Mardi Gras decor & fun atmosphere. Our server, Franny, came right over & answered questions we had about a few menu items. She took our drink orders & our appetizer order. Our drinks came out quickly. My husband ordered a beer (don't know what he picked) & I ordered a Swamp Water. My drink was yummy!!! Refreshing too! For our appetizers, we ordered 8 grilled Parmesan oysters with garlic bread & an order of boudin balls (happy hour & appetizers were on that menu). The grilled Parmesan oysters were the best oysters we have ever had!! I was almost wishing we had ordered more...I even contemplated those for dessert! Next we had the boudin balls with a side of remoulade sauce. So good & cooked perfectly! Franny, came over & checked on us, took our dinner order & brought us another round of drinks. For our meal, my husband ordered the Étouffée & I ordered the fresh catch blackened grouper platter with fries & slaw (choice of 2 sides). My husband is an étouffée lover & really enjoyed his meal!! I loved the blackened grouper. Our trip to Marco Island & Sanibel is the first time I've had grouper & I'm now a fan!! My fries & slaw were very good, but I didn't finish them as I knew I wanted to have beignets. Last, we ordered the beignets. Franny asked if we wanted sauces & since I just like powdered sugar on mine, I passed, but my husband wanted chocolate sauce. Beignets were nice and puffy and oh, so good! Not Cafe Du Monde good, but best I've had outside of New Orleans. Great service & we highly recommend Mudbugs!!! read more

Fabulous atmosphere! Live music and happy hour specials. I had the stuffed shrimp which was delicious. Other people in my party had gumbo, crab cakes, and Cajun pasta. Everyone loved their food. It was our first time here, definitely on our must visit list! read more

The live music was great, the food was better. I ordered a 1lb crawfish boil and it came out very quick along with my entire table of 10's food. The food was amazing, some of the best crawfish ive ever had. The waitress was very kind, quick, and straight to the point. read more

Yes. Salads, fried green tomatoes, jambalaya, red beans & andouille sausage, ribeye, chicken, burger, blt, pork belly, veggie pasta, roast beef....side dishes.
What's the happy hour situation?
A few drinks and a few apps specially priced. We were there yesterday for Happy Hour. I'd suggest calling them: (239) 472-2221. Here are the food Happy Hour Specials, they also have drink special but I can't remember what they were. Sorry.…
