Ordered the jambalaya, wife ordered the muffuletta. Both dishes turned out to be disappointing. Jambalaya was clearly overcooked and unreasonably dry. Couldn't force myself to eat even a third of it. Wife's muffuletta was overly salty. It's generally a salty sandwich, but this one was too salty to enjoy. Returned for happy hour about 5pm another day. Quickly seated at requested outside. We ended up ordering so many appetizers, we did not leave room for dinner. Loved the huge, tender peel and eat shrimp, grilled oysters first time and now a favorite of mine. I was surprised the crab corn chowder at happy hour price was a huge bowl...which we all enjoyed. Drink specials and ended with beignets....need to go back to try the entrees. First visit for lunch.Wanted to try their sweet beignets. They open at 11am. As we pulled into parking lot. Sign says 9am-11am beignets and coffee to go. The atmosphere does a great job of giving that NOLA feeling. I ordered glass of white wine while my guest tried the Swamp Water alcohol beverage, great concoction with melon liquor. Coconut rum and other flavors. We split the order of 6 sweet beignets...so good!!! The waitress asked if we wanted chocolate. Raspberry or caramel sauce on the side. We said Raspberry. Split the grilled watermelon salad. First. All the beignets sauces are sweet would have been interested had the sauce been tart. Only a slight charge of fifty cents, but we didn't use it. Just enjoyed the powdered sugar beignets. The salad was a large portion. Unfortunately the watermelon did not have much flavor. We plan to return for dinner to try some main courses. read more

Was wanting to come here pre Ian, never made it, so happy you're back open! Exquisite decor. Just like the French Quarter! We sat on the upper balcony & the weather was so nice, just beware after the sun sets you'll see the no seeums or mosquitoes. We had the char grilled oysters sooooo good & the beignets with the garlic & Parmesan OMG. My gf got the snapper blackened she said it was delish & me & hub split the crawfish etoufee with a scoop of jambalaya on top. We also had a bowl of the gumbo soup. Took an order of regular beignets home. Everything was soooo good, there's no where else you can get Cajun/creole in SWFL. Our waiter was outstanding also. We came here several times on our 13 day trip here. We discovered it from reading reviews. If you like fried oysters these were the best. The fried oyster poboy was packed full of oysters. The werent over cooked or greasy .. amazing. I liked the crawfish etouffee.. but I'm a spice whimp. The char broiled oysters were also delicious.. only place beside new Orleans that we've found some we liked. They had live music for lunch and dinner. Liked the music and the noise level was perfect. Me and my girlfriend came here for a date night and the 2lbs crab special did it for us, it was amazing we got beignets which were also on point. Out waitress was very nice and attentive. With live music at the center of the restaurant this place is a 10/10. read more

After all the web recommendations, we finally tried Mudbugs. My husband has difficulty finding places that serve his favorite sandwich, so when he saw they had muffalettas, we had to go. He said the half muffaletta (huge) was good, but requested extra olive salad. I had the garden salad and added a crab cake and it was delicious! The portions are quite generous so I left about 1/2 of my salad and my husband took 1/2 of his sandwich home. Our server (Othmane M) was super attentive. We'll be back! read more

If you stop in Sanibel check this place out. We came in for happy hour and ordered just about everything on the menu. The corn chowder was amazing. Chunky corn in a smooth chowder. The boudin balls were probably my favorite. Light fried and filled with rice and pork. Drop them in the provided sauce and they are fantastic. I also tried some grilled oysters. They had parmesan on top and were awesome. The grill flavor really came through. Only problem was they left the doors open so flies were inside. I had to swat one off me every ten seconds and that is not an exaggeration. Close the doors next time and keep the flies out. read more

I ordered chargilled oysters and Bayou shrimp which was really good. The oysters fantastic. Our waiter was really nice it ended up getting cold outside we asked to move inside and it was no problem. Popped into Mudbugs on a Tuesday afternoon for a drink and some appetizers. This is the middle of summer so crowds during the week were pretty low and we were sat immediately near the bar in a booth. Lots of Mardi Gras decorations adorn the walls and rock n roll played over the speakers. Our server was friendly and she advised us on the menus specialties and favorites since this was our first time; starters, drinks and entrees. Hubby had the Mudbugs Mojito (very berry) and I had the Sanibel Breeze (too much juice) but they were refreshing since it was very hot. Appetizers were BAYOU-STYLE CHAR-GRILLED Oysters and Blackened Fish Bites. The Fish bites were Grouper and the portion was excellent. The Oysters were 1/2 dozen and they were some of the best oysters we've had! I would come just for those! All in all, food was tasty and the drinks were just so-so. Loved the decor and our waitress was very attentive. We will be back to try some entrees and I'll re-rate my review. I saw Mudbugs Cajun Kitchen and I love me some Cajun food so of course I stopped there. It had great reviews and it didn't disappoint. I love that it had an outdoor patio. I had the fried oysters with mashed potatoes, coleslaw, and a bowl of chicken and sausage gumbo. The oysters were too chewy but the flavor was perfect, the sides were all good. The food was phenomenal. We ordered from our condo and brought it back so I can't say anything about the decor. Crawfish etouffee was fabulous. The boys loved their Mac & cheese too. My adventurous son chose a Alfredo pasta dish with alligator & frog legs. It was excellent as well. Alligator was cooked well (often over cooked & dry at other restaurants) & the Alfredo had flavor (nice spicy vs the plain and bland versions more frequently offered). When in Sanibel again, I'll stop in on one of our first nights so I can have it again later in the week. It was that good. (Seriously, we almost had it two nights in a row.) read more
