Came here for a large group dinner lecture and it was lovely! The interior is clean and feels very new. There was a fire in 2011, and the entire place was rebuilt in 2012. I wouldn't have guessed that it's already 7 years old. I liked the modern-barn themed design. We had a private room, but the rest of the restaurant seemed to be very lively, even on a Wednesday night. Crab dip was very creamy and had an acceptable amount of crab meat. Cheese board: selected slices with fig jam, small pickles (?), and olives. Truffle fries: thin, crispy, and the truffle taste was obvious. Drinks: I liked both the red and white sangrias. The white sangria was very sweet and fruity, and the red was smooth and leaned on the sweet side too. Both were served with raspberries and blueberries. Lemon chicken and pasta: The chicken and asparagus were cut into smaller pieces and mixed throughout the pasta. There were Parmesan flakes (as opposed to grated or shredded--this is a plus). The "light cream sauce" was a tad runny but otherwise delicious. It was a huge portion size! The garlic bread was a bit too dry, but there were soft rolls on the table that made up for it. Peanut butter cheesecake: exactly what I expected it to be--a solid dessert. Wait service was extremely polite throughout the meal. There were two waiters on our table, and they stopped by frequently for drink refills. They also boxed up the leftover food to go for us. Mt. Went in at about 2 o'clock, not very busy, ordered seared Ahi tuna sandwich requested it, medium, fish was literally cold like it came out of refrigerator and completely completely rare not even sure if it had been cooked at all, took another 15 minutes for my food to come back after rest of party had finished lunch, asked for fries instead of chips, still got chips. Love the ambience of the building and neighborhood but this place isn't what it used to be. read more

Whew. Not much to say about the food at this place. The decor and openness of the restaurant is beautiful. Service was great. Food was subpar. Had the jumbo crab dip that was full of shells and way more cream cheese than crab. Then I made a dumb chose lol of getting cream of crab soup on top of something else creamy. Well what can I say about waiting close to 30 minutes or maybe a little more for nachos with bacon. I wish I took a picture so you could see the bacon or lack there of. My job chose this place for leadership meeting and I'm so glad they did! It was my first time so I was eager to try the menu. Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious and fresh!! For starters, we ordered the crab dip, fried green tomatoes, and nachos. The food looked so good I didn't get a chance to take pictures of everything except the amazing fried green tomatoes topped with real LUMP crabmeat!! They were so delicious and had a nice crunch to them. They loaded the crabmeat on top which was a plus!! The crab dip was also pretty good. For my meal I ordered the smash burger with truffle fries. The burger was huge and the fries gave everything it was supposed to give. For my drink I had the Apple pie peach sangria which was nice and strong. My friend and I specifically chose this place so that we could sit outside and be safe Covid-wise. Everything online said this was an option; they even have heaters outside. We waited for nearly a half hour after our reservation to get seated since "none of the servers want to serve outside." We finally were able to get seated outside, then after 20 minutes with no waiter in sight -- not even for drinks -- we left. Hostess Jasmine was super accommodating and tried so hard to get us seated and served outside.. but unfortunately everything else sucked. Also worth mentioning that none of the servers were wearing masks inside. We went to Abbey Burger instead: seated immediately, great service and food, and all employees wore masks. We were invited to MWT for a lunch meeting and there were both positive and negative aspects of our experience. The cheese platter that started off the lunch featured some tasty selections and the fig jam was a nice counterpoint to the salty cheeses but the bread was stale and no serving utensils were provided. Salad was fresh with a choice of dressings. Main course crab cake was decent but lacked the lumpiness of other local favorites. The broiled tomato stuffed with feta was excellent. Wife and I went to dinner last night celebrating nothing but felt we were due a nice dining experience. We had been there several times and I was never bowled over by the food, nothing bad but never a WOW factor, my wife almost always loved it. The atmosphere is the best thing about the restaurant. Our waitress Samantha was fantastic, and really knew her stuff. My wife and I both ordered a bowl of the Cream of Crab soup, and it was just horrible and this wasn't a matter of personal taste it was just bad, no sherrie in it and was gelatonous to the point it looked like goop. We both sent ours back and believe me, WE NEVER SEND THINGS BACK, EVER! Then my entree came, Sea Scallops over risotto. The Scallops were passable, a bit over done but the risotto had about an 1/8" of oil or butter floating on it....I didn't not send it back because I was hungry. I tipped Samantha heavily as she was perfect. She said the kitchen was crazy busy and apologized profusely about our food. I personally don't think this is the norm for them and I do think they had a bad night but still, that food shouldn't have been served, period. I'll go again and try something different as other reviews are glowing. Sorry Mt Washington Tavern but failed this time.... one last thing, I mentioned tat I tipped Samantha but what I didn't mention was that they added the gratuity .....I've never seen that done on a party of 2, party of 6 of course. Went to dinner here for a friend's birthday (group of 10). We ordered several appetizers which we split. The appetizers were all pretty good. drunken muscles- the broth was delicious. chicken quesadilla- pretty average- what can you expect from a quesadilla? pretzels- warm and very tasty crab dip- generous amounts of crab meat I ordered the MD crab and cream of crab mix soup and a soft shell crab sandwich for my meal. Both were extremely salty. My friend ordered some sort of fish topped with crab meat and she also mentioned that her dish was super salty. They were very short staffed but our waitress was handling it pretty well. We did wait a long time in between drinks, appetizers and meals. For whatever reason, the floor under our table was so tacky our shoes were sticking to the floor. My wife and I decided to stop in without a reservation on a weekend during brunch hours, with our three young children. We were immediately greeted, and taken upstairs to a nice table that was perfect for our family. The bar tender took care of our orders, and was very attentive to our table. We ordered the kids' food with our drinks, and our food shortly after. The kids' food was perfect, and came out in a hurry. Ours came out a few moments later. I had ordered a Half and Half crab soup, a salad, and an order of oysters, and my wife ordered a chili and salad. The food was good, but the soup and chili was a bit luke-warm. No biggie, maybe because we ordered it after the kids' it was sitting out for a few moments. All in all, we would definitely return. The atmosphere is fantastic, and the food is good. This place has all the makings of being a great bar but it falls short when it comes to food. My coworkers and I came for happy hour and sat at the bar. We got great service! I wish I knew the bartenders name but he was always there when I need another drink. He was extremely polite and gave a rundown of the happy hour specials when I asked for a menu. The tavern is very nice inside. It's very large and I love the fireplaces inside. I also love the outdoor seating upstairs. I'm pretty sure it's a great place to dine in the warmer seasons. Despite the positives, the food was not what I expected. I got a chicken quesadilla and it was very dry and crunchy. One of my coworkers let me try some of their truffle fries and those were even worse. They tasted pretty much like dried up shoestring fries with a mountain of unmelted parmesan cheese. Over-rated at 2 1/2 stars. Mediocre at best. Where do they get off being entitled to add a 20% tip to the check on a 2 top? WTF No mention of this policy anywhere, although they do specify the mandatory tip on groups of 8+. I'm a good tipper, just am appalled at this strong-arm approach. Of course, their forcing this on guests lends itself to the servers not giving a crap and ours was the worst. The place wasn't particularly busy, but the waiter ghosted us during our stay. We were obviously ready to go, waited more than 15 minutes and finally had to go to the bar for the check. The prices are absurd, especially given how tasteless the product was. As seafood joints go, this is the bottom of the barrel. I live on the shoreline and can't believe the people of Baltimore support this wreck of a restaurant as passable. Haven't been here in a few years. Came for a family member's birthday with a party of 6. Service was good, food was ok. I went with the salmon cooked in foil, and they brought it out in the foil (which I thought was a bit strange). But either way, the salmon itself was a bit over done, and I know, cause it was the consistency of my salmon, every time I over cook it. Lol. Still edible, and the chili lime flavor was ok. The carrots and brussels were good, and the mashed potatoes were plentiful. A little bland, but plentiful. Nothing to write home about with this place, but not terrible either. Food was good, server was outstanding, atmosphere nice, but very, very loud and noisy. Hard to keep a conversation with my friend sitting across from me. Decided to keep it simple and get the Tavern Steak, a 16 oz juicy aged NY Strip. Cooked up just right and served with fingerling potatoes and corn succotash. I really want to like this place because it's a nice space, but Mt Washington Tavern seems to always disappoint me in some way. The first time I came was probably last year. I ordered chicken tenders from their late night menu. Quintessential bar food: fried, breaded things. It's not that hard to find a good frozen tender better yet dredge a piece of chicken in flour and drop it in hot oil. These were just old. And not like old grease (which is equally sinful, maybe more so), but just like they had been made an hour earlier. Diasppointed. The next visit was on a date. We had met at Jupiter's for an ice cream (cute right?). We wanted to continue the convo. I prefaced our visit with the fact that I hadn't had a stellar experience before but it was close. We enjoyed wine and crab dip on the rooftop bar area. Not disappointed but it was meh. The last time was a rainy evening for happy hour. There was hardly anyone in there when we arrived at 4ish but somehow we had half-ass service. We asked if we could sit in the couch area instead of directly at the bar because there were 4 of us and we wanted to be able to talk. The guys said yes but didn't tell us we'd have to come back to the bar to order. Annoying, especially getting up mid-conversation. I ordered Tempranillo and the bartender emptied the bottle into my glass (not in my favor) but I thought nothing of it until I tasted it. It was old. A day or two old. At that point I should have given it back but I never want to be that girl. So I took my glass and returned to the sofas. I had everyone taste it to make sure I wasn't crazy. I wasn't. I also ordered cheese curds which were decent but super expensive for fried cheese and on happy hour nonetheless. Half hour later my friend orders the same Tempranillo. This was my first visit at Mt Washington Tavern. My co-worker brought a group of us while on a business trip to the area. This restaurant/bar is tucked away a bit, but it's a really big place, a lot larger than you would think from the outside. I believe they had a fire and had to rebuild recently. The restaurant was done really well. Interesting decor, very spacious, tables spaced out with a lot of room around. Salmon was not fresh and it was over cooked and dry. Service was slow and upstairs female blonde bartender was an amateur and made drinks with no flavor and tons of ice. This was in February and they had on the air conditioning forcing me to wear my coat as well as other patrons. The front desk was well-coming, but the bar upstairs made it seem like they didn't care because they were getting paid anyway. also, they charge an extra fee to use your credit card.
