I Was just here this past weekend and absolutely LOVED IT! We were seated immediately at the bar and met Jason, one of the amazing bartenders working. You can really tell how much he loves his job and interacting with the customers! Glen was the other bartender working that night and he was so sweet. He even made my mom and I these cute little roses! Dylan was also a very kind worker. We are not from the Baltimore area so he told us about where to park and all of that fun stuff. Every worker here we encountered were so nice! I could go on and on about the amazing service but let's talk food and drinks: I highly recommend getting cocktails while you're here because the bartenders know what they're doing. The cocojito and espresso martinis were a hit! They also can do crushes. I got the orange one and they squeeze the fruits right at the bar so it's Very fresh! We ordered the fried green tomatoes as an appetizer. I was skeptical because I've never had crab on top of fried green tomatoes before, but they were delicious! My mom and I split a beyond burger and we really enjoyed it! My brother ordered the smash burger and my dad got the shrimp tacos. They both liked their entrees as well! It had been too long! My husband and I used to go to Mt. Washington Tavern on the regular when we lived right down the street. Sadly, it had been a few years since we visited but I surprised him by taking him to brunch on Sunday. We sat at the bar and Charlie took care of us. He remembered my husband from years ago. He is super friendly and took great care of us! I started with the French toast fries which are really just French toast sticks. Whatever you call 'em, they were delicious! My husband had the crab hash and I had the chicken salad BLT wrap and upgraded to truffle fries instead of chips. The truffle fries were some of the best I have had. Everything was delicious! I had a few mimosas and my husband had bloody marys. They have bottomless for $15 which is super reasonable. I wish we were closer and could still pop in as often as we used to! read more

After not having gone here in more than a year, we were pleasantly surprised by seeing that the menu had dramatically changed. It certainly seemed an improvement while keeping some of their more popular dishes from before. Unfortunately, the kitchen continues to remain stuck in not being able to deliver meals with even reasonable taste. The bone-in chicken wings were barely seasoned. My cream of crab soup was gloppily thick; the kitchen used far too much flour. The soup was thoroughly bland, lacking in crab flavor, and no splash of sherry to liven it up. My wife's Mushroom Bourguignon was barely edible. The mushrooms had been sliced too thinly and were lost in a cloying mess of what tasted like diced canned tomatoes. Did they even begin with a simple mirepoix? I doubt it. The kitchen would be advised to grill thick-cut portabello mushrooms instead of what small pieces of mushroom were swimming around in the awful tomatoey sauce. Oh! And don't forget to add red wine because that is what any dish labeled "Bourguignon" must have! By the way, the dish did not look anything like the website picture of the dish. Having three beers and the aforementioned dishes, the bill was almost $100 with a generous gratuity because we like our server and bartender. In summary, The Tavern continues to disappoint. If you just want beer, wine, or cocktail, and have a plate of raw oysters, it'll be fine. Please do not expect much from the kitchen, however. We'd rather spend $20-30 more and dine at Le Bistro du Village or Ethyl's Creole Kitchen, where I know we will dine well. read more

I ate here after a meeting I had nearby. It's one of the few restaurants open at 4 pm on a weekday. I had crab cakes and $1 oysters. The oysters were good (not amazing, but good). The crab cakes were salty and were absolutely not worth the $42 (a price they don't show you in the menu, so don't assume they're priced like the other entrees!). Once upon a time, in an age long ago, I used to frequent MVT frequently (20/30s). LOL. The bar area was ALWAYS such a fun time! It has truly been 10+ years since I've been here. I simply never think of the village of Mount Wash, anymore, for some reason. Fast forward to this past weekend. Brunch was the plan but the location was u certain. After several tries, I chose MVT... and I'm glad I did. I've always loved that neighborhood and how it's nestled in the woods the way it is. It's also very artsy and the food selections in the village have never disappointed. Upon entering, it was completely nostalgic of great times, past. We were seated upstairs bc we wanted to be outside. Fun Fact: I always saw the grand steps there but never ever went up them all those years ago. Wow! I just realized that. In any event, once upstairs, it is absolutely beautiful. In fact, there was a beautiful bridal shower being held in a private room. Once we were seated on the outside deck, it was very impressive. There was a nice breeze flowing thru, a roof top that had slat openings (to close for rain, I suppose). I loved this design. Our server, Jason, was fantastic and very attentive. He had a great personality and knew the menu extensively. All the patrons loved him. He was definitely part of the fantastic experience/ ambiance of the upstairs. DINING EXPERIENCE: FIRST: BOTTOMLESS DRINKS: 1) MIMOSA: champagne, triple sec, OJ; 2) SCREWDRIVER: vodka, OJ; 3) BLOODY MARY: vodka, tavern bloody mary mix, lime wedge, olives, celery stick. I mean, how can u go wrong w/ bottomless drinks, right? The mimosas had just the right kick to them. Not too much. Not too little. SCORE!!! The screwdriver was ehhh... an average screwdriver. MEH! The Bloody Mary's were quite good. They had a bit too much pepper in them but adding a decent amount of lime juice leveled it out quite nicely. SCORE!!! So that's a SCORE, MEH, SCORE!!! For those keeping track... LOLOLOL . I would mention how many drinks we had in total, once we saw the receipt *shock face*... but let's not do that to ourselves, k?!? LMAO! SECOND: ON TO THE BRUNCH: I decided that I wanted to have a 'lil nosh'. Naturally, I opted for the: 1) BAGEL and LOX platter. I chose a toasted everything bagel that was accompanied with all the fixings: wild caught northern atlantic smoked salmon, cream cheese, capers, red onion, sliced tomato and mixed greens. The salmon was a generous portion and VERY tasty. Tasted quite fresh. One thing that I really appreciated about this dish was that it came deconstructed so I could build it the way I wanted. Many times, I've ordered this elsewhere and it all comes out together and things slip / slide all over the place. Since I could build it myself, nothing slipped. This may become my go-to dish here. Overall... PERFECT! SCORE!!! 2) I also had a side of scrambled eggs w/ cheese. Delicious, fluffy, good portion size. All I added were capers & black pepper. Overall Perfect! SCORE!!! 3) Based on our server's recommendation, my dining companion opted for the FRENCH TOAST FRIES: thick cut sticks, cinnamon, egg battered, flash fried, side maple glaze dipping sauce. These lacked a serious WOW factor at all. In fact, I'm pretty sure when I've purchased frozen French toast sticks at the grocers, they pretty much looked like these. They didn't have much flavor (no hint of butter, cinnamon, nutmeg. NOTHING). They were just nicely toasted sticks of what May/May not have been brioche. Accompanying the French toast were a couple of very thinly sliced strawberries and a few blackberries. There truly should have been more fruit. Then there was a dusting of powdered sugar and a white dipping sauce that was incredibly sweet. Like it would be an AMAZING glaze for a cake, cupcake, muffin, tart (where it could soak in and coat properly). As a stand alone, it was way too sweet. It was actually replaced w/ basic syrup. It was much better that way. Overall... MEH! He also had a: 4) side of scrambled eggs w/ cheese and a 5) side of applewood bacon. Decent portions. Both were a hit, for him, as well. Overall... I went on a Thursday and they have oysters for free 4-6 pm for happy hour and they were very fresh. They have a guy that chucks them right in front of you and puts them on ice. They also have toppings on ice. I got the crab dip with pretzels. The pretzels had a lot of salt but you could remove it. The crab dip had some jumbo chunks of crab in in and some crab mixed it it had a good flavor. We had the grilled cheese but it had American cheese and goat cheese. The goat cheese was over baring. It had bacon and tomato's on it. Not my favorite. I didn't like my prime rib quesadilla. I was able to send it back for the Hawaiian shrimp tacos. They were really good. The waiter was pretty nice and attentive. The ambiance was very nice. Chill and quick service. The drinks were nice size and hit the spot. read more

Popped up here for a quick date night before the basketball game. We choose to dine outdoors. We were seated promptly. Neither of us were too hungry so we just chose to get appetizers. This is about my 4th or 5th time here and I am always pleased with the food! Honestly, everything is good. They have steak tacos so yummy, the half/half Maryland Crab and chowder you always wanna take a second bowl home, and the BBQ flatbread so darn yummy!! Especially bc the place just opened and was almost empty. We had a large party in the private room and everything was just okay. First of all, our reservation was at 6 pm but when we got there they said it wasn't until 6:30 pm. Not that big of a deal but alittle annoying. Second, the gentleman that was taking orders for drinks was rude and not very nice. He would only take 2-3 orders at a time and would cut the next person off and would say he will be right back so ordering drinks took forever with having a big party. Not sure why he couldn't take more and just write it down. The food was just okay and not everyone's food came out at the same time. Some of us had to ask for our food. I would frequent this place regularly prior to the pandemic and always had a great time and enjoyed the food. Visited again this week and hadn't been since 2019. Definitely a different experience. I went for happy hour but happy hour is only honored if you have a seat at the bar. The rear bar was full on the lower level and there was an event upstairs. Our waitress apparently was also making drinks and told us she was still learning. She was super sweet but our drinks were subpar. She was so nice we didn't complain. The food was not the best. Oysters and calamari were okay. Crab soup lacked crab meat as there were merely strands so it was comparable to vegetables with old bay in tomato sauce. Parking is always a task at the location and so that remained a challenge but ultimately this was my last visit. I've been a fan of Mt. Washington Tavern for some time. Every day the have some form ofr happy hr give a way or specialty night, from quesadillas to oysters. My fave is by far Prime Rib Night! For 16.95, you get a salad, fingerling potatoes and a huge deliciously cooked piece of prime rib to order. Can't beat that. Although I had a guest with me that ordered a cheesburger and that thing was tougher than a hockey puck. Kinda pales in comparison to what I had. :( Guess you win and lose some on the same order. What an awesome experience! The restaurant/tavern looks great, and the upstairs is fun and well staffed. The food was outstanding. I was out with a coworker and visited for lunch. First, let me say,, Shanny was our server,, and she was terrific, and she made our visit wonder.. We ordered the calamari as an appetizer and it was cooked perfectly. It was a huge plate full of tasty food. I ordered a Ruben sandwich with fries, and it was delicious. It was a large portion and had the right balance of all of the ingredients. My fries were crispy and the bleu cheese dressing was out of this world. My coworker had the Tavern Burger, and she ordered it cooked medium, and the Tavern staff nailed it! She also had the sweet potato fries that were tasty and crispy. As I mentioned earlier, Shanny was awesome, and a big reason I will be back! read more

I can't believe the low rating that this place has on Yelp . I order from here at least once a month, and I always order the crab dip with the baguette and pita chips. Right now, Uber eats is running a special where you buy one are dip and get one free, so I order through there and typically pick it up. Whenever I go to grab my order, the host is super friendly, and I get my food very quickly. The crab dip is amazing, and is the best in the city in my opinion. It's pricey ($19 per serving), but the portion sizes are generous, and I always have leftovers. I definitely recommend at least coming here for the dip if you're in the area! read more

This was the absolute worst meal I've ever had. We got there at 6:30 and weren't served our appetizers until 8:00. The grilled oysters were horrible, the nachos were chips served with a little melted cheese. I patronize this establishment on many occasions with my child. After experiencing I very rude response from the manager today. I decided to share my experience here at the restaurant on Friday evening. Although, we did get there after 9 for dinner, I didn't order much. The food was ok, but the next morning my child became very sick from eating the southwest egg rolls and the Mac and cheese balls that were on the special menu. I'm a mom and this the sickest my child ever been when it comes to food. Hope the things will get better with her in which is slightly did. I proceed to share my experience with the manager today. This was the first time I've been here; we came with a party of 8 and I believe everyone enjoyed their food and drinks. They had a special menu of seafood dishes this week, I had the crab and avocado stack for $21 - it was a small portion, but I have a smaller appetite and wanted something light so it was perfect. The problem came with the service. We were there more than two hours when it was not very crowded at all. After we specifically asked for the check, it took around half an hour to get it. The menu does say one check per table, but we asked to split it because some of the party had another place to be, and wasn't expecting dinner to take so long. She was very rude about this request (which we did politely by the way), and messed up the bills, giving two of us the exact same one.
