MSI will not sell to you unless you're a licensed contractor. I only found this out on my second trip down there from north county, after having spoken to reps three times and after having wasted hours of travel time. I'm not sure the rationale for this, or why they are even listed on Yelp at all since effectively speaking they are not actually open to the general public. I also don't know why they aren't more clear about this on their Yelp listing. So, deduction of points for being misleading. I also think it's a silly policy... why on earth would they refuse a sale? I, like 99% of the world, am using a licensed contractor who told me I need to buy the materials myself for the project. Unfortunately, MSI refused to sell to me even after I explained this. I even offered to give them his contact information to confirm I'm working with a licensed contractor on this project. They offer a large selection of tiles and "ceramic slabs." When their rep was showing me the options (on my first visit), I was steered away from my stated preference and toward the direction of these giant slabs. I found out, after probing, that they are basically all plain ceramic with designs *printed* on them to make them look like other materials. It was presented to me as being the most popular choice right now, and that all the high end homes were putting them in. I did feel like it was a bit too pushy on the sales side. Their selection really is quite good. That's the nicest thing about MSI - and what drew me to them in the first place. Also, their show room is large, well-lit, and pretty. All of which would have been quite nice ... if they actually would have sold me any products. read more

My experience with MSI is not very good, like other reviews mentioned, they DO NOT sell to home owners. So things get more complicated from here. After checked out the show room, I went to a store nearby to ask about the tiles that I liked. The tile store asked me for my phone number and promised to give me a call after they get the price from MSI. Later the tile store called me and told me a price based on per sq ft. Do you see how many extra steps that I have to do here? When I made the order, I told the tile store that I need 13 sq ft tiles total. And they ended up ordered me 13 boxes, no returnable. This is the issue that I need to solve with the tile store. If I was the tile store, I would ask MSI: "How much is per sq ft; how many tiles come within per box; how much is per box?" Because MSI does not sell to home owners, I had to take extra steps to purchase the tiles and things went wrong. The tile store made a mistake, but MSI didn't make it easy for any of us by giving the quote base on sq ft. And not mentioned that the shipment was delayed. read more

MSI - gap between stones due to manufactory flaw - Flooring Near Me - San Diego, California

You can only purchase from here if you're working with a general contractor, but so worth it if you have this option to shop here. They have such a wide selection of different materials and I was able to pick out everything for 3 bathrooms and a kitchen remodel. The prices I would argue are even cheaper than going to Home Depot or a big box store to purchase myself. You do have to pay for freight delivery ($200 flat fee) but the contractor discount prices make it a way better deal in the long run. So far we've only finished the guest bathrooms and are close to finishing the primary bath and kitchen, but so far looking better than I imagined. Will update when the rest of the project is done. A few gotchas to watch out for: you have to really trust that your contractor is measuring things properly because MSI does NOT allow returns or exchanges once an item is delivered. I believe they may have exceptions for very unique cases but there is a restocking fee; I wouldn't count on it though. My contractor was very diligent and inspected the tiles when they delivered and did find a box of cracked tile, which MSI did honor and provide us a refund for. But if you're planning to return or exchange because you got extra at the end of a job, don't like the style anymore, or got the wrong tiles for some reason, you are out of luck. An exception is made for slabs that haven't been picked up from the warehouse yet; these they allow you to exchange or return since they're still in MSI's possession. Do bear in mind if you return a slab you should not expect to get it back if you change your mind; once it's released it's game for anyone to snatch it up and you might be out of luck for months so make that choice carefully. I'm not sure what change happened here but it's not good. Everything from walking in the door- you have to check in using a QR code. No one helps you, you are walking around aimlessly. Employees are arguing amongst themselves. Customers walking out due to no one assisting. No one can take our order. So many well lite displays ensure you know what you are buying in large pieces. The staff seems really strained trying to help so many people so don't expect top notch customer service as they don't have many employees here to help and spend a lot of time with you. Been working on a kitchen remodel. I went to MSI after being recommended their showroom by our kitchen cabinet designer. They had all the materials I needed in one place. I was able to pick my quartz countertops, tile backsplash, and wood (L.V.P.) flooring all in the same showroom. My understanding is that their pricing is better overall because they are the manufacturer and the distributor so it kind of cuts out the middle man of some of the other places. I also liked that all of the countertop materials were indoors, so no having to go out in the hot sun to look at the slabs. I liked they way they had the quartz countertop material laid out in one big room with large samples so I could compare the options really quickly. Most of the other places I had been only had like 12" x 12" color samples and they had like 24" x 60" samples mounted all around the room, definitely easier to see the pattern. I have had everything installed for a few weeks and everything looks fantastic and appears to be really good quality, the flooring material looks so realistic with the wide planks and varied patterns, the countertops are so easy to clean and the backsplash really provided a pop. I would definitely recommend someone to go take a look at MSI as it can be one stop shopping versus having to run all over town. read more

Being new to San Diego and not knowing the area well we came across MSI Stone and selected them as our vendor to purchase various tiles for our bathroom remodel. I must say our first salesperson never returned calls and was inattentive to our needs. But now the good part. We went back to the showroom & met Sebastian, another sales rep. Sebastian was so helpful in assisting us to design, match, and purchase tile for our project. He was professional and had inspiring ideas when selecting our colors, textures, and ensured they matched perfect together. Now a negative: a negative thing I must say about MSI is they charged us a 25% restocking fee for shower floor tile that didn't quite match the other tile under the bathroom light. Didn't think this was fair as all I did was exchange unused (in the box) tile for another color tile they recommended and had in stock. I relied on their expertise in helping me select a new shower floor tile. Well, when I arrived home I gave it to the tile setter and he refused to install it. He advised that in his good conscience he didn't feel right installing it as it was very slippery and a safety hazard when wet. Thank goodness for honest tile setters that look out for their clients! I returned the box immediately to MSI and am hoping the a refund was made to my credit card. I was told the bookkeeper was out to lunch and she was the only one who could process the return. There is no way to get through on the phones you call the main number continuously and voicemail answer and then it says sorry but voicemail is full and cannot accept more calls try back later. So In all of my paperwork there is no mentioned of picking hours being from 8-10 am on Saturdays. After driving 50 miles when gas is over $4.00 a gallon they refused to release my order because it was 10:25. Not very good customer service. read more

i went to look at some slabs for a project and was told they don't disclose prices to home owners. I pushed and eventually got them to give me the "retail" price which was $2000 a slab. they didn't have what i wanted in stock, but they told me that their Orange, CA store (1.5 hours away) had some in stock. I drove up to there to look at the stones and confirmed they looked good. after several phone calls between myself and my fabricator i finally was able to get the quote for the slabs and they came in at $3200 a slab which is way out of our price range. They are very difficult to work with and i will not be using them going forward. read more

I also visited there for other project, and they didn't sell what I am looking for, but they still offered me resources I can reach out and get help for what I needed.
