I ordered a Blue Velvet Birthday Cake for my Boyfriend. The decorator added an ugly design to cover up the fact that she left too much space on the cake. My mother sent me a picture. I asked for it to be removed. The decorator left an ugly dent in the cake. The cake also dis not have the cream cheese frosting and filling I requested. The manager swore it was. I sent in the pictures. They told me to bring them in a slice to authenticate that it was not cream cheese frosting. The nerve! Poor customer service and terrible cakes. After 10 years I'm taking my business elsewhere and telling all of my social media followers to do the same. Thus place has gone down hill. read more

I like their cakes. I havent had it in long time. I ordered half lemon half whip cream. They gave all whip cream. I called they said bring cake back. I feel they should take loss if their staff made the mistake. How would we know until the cake is cut? Why would they want cake back. I guess I should have stayed away. It was for my bday and was looking forward to lemon. read more

It was a Great Bakery and reasonably priced, everyone is is trying to get rich with inferior tasteless cake.

Not sure why this business its allowed on Yelp as two separate entities. I'm pasting my last review and sucks I can't post a picture up! Paid $76.00 for a cake that look like my 8 year old baked it. I gave them instructions on how the cake should look bc apparently they dont get creative. You pick a regular cake, a filling and they paste a copy of the picture you want. Not only did my daughters cake tasted old and stale but by the time it reached destination it was completely destroyed. Had a tilted cake! The top part of cake split up as if it wasnt bake right. Next time I'll just go to BJ's damn read more

I am not writing a glowing review. For starters, I came into Brooklyn, from York, PA to pick up a cake at 5:30 pm. I showed up at 6:50 and did not receive my cake until 8:10 pm. on Saturday August 18, 2018. I ordered a full sheet cake with a dozen lemon tarts and cupcakes on line. I stopped in the bakery on Thursday August 16th to make sure must customized request were received directly to avoid any miscommunications or delays at time of pick-up. When i spoke to the manager, to explain to her my situation, she told me I was late picking my cake, and she is understaffed. As a customer, that is not my problem!!!!! I ordered half pineapple/half strawberry full sheet cake; once I received the cake and went to cut it at the party, it was all pineapple. I really use to enjoy your cakes, but the customer service and management need some serious training. read more

I love, love, love their cakes, been coming here since I was a little girl. I can definitely say it is one of the best bakeries hands down!! Love this place and the people are super talented always looking for new ways to be original. My nieces cake was plain and simple yet beautiful. Thanks!a read more

The most pleasant and patient staff.....it can be a little overwhelming with all they have to offer. I like that one can buy by the slice... which I did because it is just enough for me with a cup of coffee or tea. Of course this is a great place for family cakes all year long read more

This use to be one of my favorite bakeries. I have been coming here for over 20 years. I would always buy birthday cakes here because they are old school cakes with the yummy buttercream or whipped cream and with or without fruit like strawberry or pineapple. I also favorited this bakery because they also sold other pastries and pieces of cake for cheap. I could get a very fresh delicious Napoleon or carrot cake for about $1.50 a piece. I recently drove all the way from Long Island to get a piece of cake and some other goodies and was very disappointed at how little they offer anymore. The cases were almost empty and the cakes (I always buy several different kind) were not as tasty as they use to be. The girl behind the counter had an attitude so I kept having to repeat things she had missed. I went on a Sunday afternoon so I would think things would be fresh and plentiful but I was disappointed. I didn't even eat the carrot cake it was so bad. I am still giving it 3 stars because maybe it was just a bad day and I came on the wrong day idk. Prices are still pretty cheap And I must say the girls at the front desk register were very friendly. read more

One of the best bakeries in Brooklyn! They are one of the only places where I can get a fresh tasting cake. Some places have their cakes sitting out for days and the cake tastes stale or hard or they coat the thing in enough fondant or Marzipan (yuck) that you have no idea of when the cake was actually baked. Mrs. Maxwell's cakes are legendarily good and they have only gotten better over the years. Fresh cake, soft and moist and iced to within an inch of it's life. I love both the butter cream and the whipped cream. The only warning I have is to stay away from the red - it has a bitter after taste. read more

Cakes are good, but customer service is terrible. They really need to step it up in the service area.

The best bakery In East New York Brooklyn! The Cheese Cake is delicious! (great with a cup of joe) the Brownies is really really good. Right amount of chocolate, and really good with a cup of milk. The place it self is big, private parking lot and the inside smells so good! Service is great! Great place to buy desserts! read more

I've always had my orders here since they've been consistent with the quality of customer service. Most important is the friendly atmosphere they're have always been able to uphold. They do need better phone service in regards to some employees being able to serve customers better by being more resourceful over the phone. Overall the product that is received by customers like myself is incredibly good. read more

I've always loved this Bakery, however this Birthday of April 1, 2018,I was somewhat disappointed. Maxwell fell short. The cake looked the same on the out side, but the writing, was Horrible, why would you put blue and yellow together in such a fashion. It was thick and lumpy. You could hardly read what it said. Then we cut the cake and part of the inside didn't have any pineapple, and the cake was un-even. the bottom layer was so thick and nothing but cake, and to fill in the spots to even out the cake there was nothing but cream on top of cream. some people just got cream and little cake with no filling at all..smh Maxwell i would have asked for my money back, but it is what it is and yes i will return, but you best believe i will be speaking my mind and asking for a FULL cake the next time..ONE more chance... read more

I live in Queens and I drive to Brooklyn just to get cake from Maxwell's. They have the best Cheesecake , much better than Junior's , and very affordable !! I pay $25.00 for a whole strawberyy cheesecake at Maxwells, and if I went to Junior's I would probably have to spend atleast $60.00 !! They alo have a vast variety of cakes and cupcakes . Just yesterday I bought the Black and White Cake ( Black and yellow cake with whip cream topping and filling) , and it was delicious and affordable !! Only $15.00 !! They're cakes are nicely put together, tasty and moist !! read more

They were great. Some of the customers however would come in acting alittle ghetto to let people know they are from the hood! But the bakery itself was great, very neat, well organized, the cakes were great but towards the end the prices kept going up and the taste started to deteriorate. I notice the place started to have less and less people as the months went on. So sad. We need more great places like this! read more

Always on point! Yellow cake with the strawberry filling is delicious!! Beware of the Chocolate cake, doesn't taste ANYTHING like chocolate!! Over all still the best bakery EVER!!!! read more

Just amazing!!!!! I've gone there for my wedding cake, birthday cakes and my baby shower cake. Would never go anywhere else!!!

I love this place. I've been going here for years and they still have the best cake I ever tasted.

Mrs Maxwell's cakes have been at 85 percent of my family and friends celebrations. Always courteous and reliable service...with the ocassional language barrier here and there but, delicious moist cakes. Recently we had a big baby shower and we had an accident with the handling of the cake(our fault not the bakery's) and it was a full sheet cake. I called back the bakery and expalined the situation and they told me to bring them the cake box and all which I did. We could not get the same exact cake but, the bakery worked with me to ensure i had a presentable cake( or in this case CAKES) for our celebration. I am Thankful for the professionalism and manner in which they handled my situation which left us all very happy cake eating campers. I WILL DEFINITELY RECOMMEND AND CONTINUE TO PATRONIZE MRS MAXWELL'S BAKERY. HEADS UP BAKERY PERSONEL.....I am going to need a 50th Birthday Creation for the end of February for a female....so get your ideas ready...i will be in soon to order it as well as my holiday stuff. read more

Surprisingly delicious cake. Customer service needs some work though. Such a successful business should spend some time on customer service, so customers feel more welcomed. However, the taste and the quality of cake is exceptional. read more

I've bought many birthday cakes, especially for parties from Maxwell's. The cakes are baked on the premises so they are always fresh. Everyone always loves the cakes and enjoys the fillings. The icings can be on the sweet side, but for a kid's party, that's not a problem. Their prices have been steadily increasing, but if you want a fresh cake, without that store-bought taste, to feed 30 or more people, decorated any way you want it. Don't hesitate! read more

Cake is great! I go there all the time for birthday cakes! My specially is cheesecake! The best!

Came here on a Saturday to order a cake for a baby shower that was a month away. We called before coming and were very specific about what we wanted. After waiting in line for an hour, we are informed they are not doing any "custom" cakes and that you can only order from the catalog. We ask for a manager and we get the rudest, most incompetent person ever. I'm from East New York but I will no longer spend dollars here. Save yourself time and headache and avoid at all cost. read more

Do not buy cake slices from this bakery they use cakes that is 4_5 days old and slice it up and sell it as well as the slices pound cake

Best cakes in all of the city , love the red velvet cake

So this review is solely based on my experience ordering a cake online from this business. I ordered on a Friday for Monday pick-up. I received two email confirmations, one from the bakery and one from the credit card vendor that they use confirming my order. I go to the store on Monday and they don't have my cake. I show them the email and asked them if this was their email address, which they confirmed. They basically didn't understand how an email was sent from their own gmail account to confirm an order that they don't have. While I was there, I logged into my bank account to see if there was a charge from the bakery. Sure enough, the charge was there. They again have no idea how this happened. At any rate I'm waiting for the charge to be removed from my account at this point. Thank goodness this wasn't for a last minute small kids party. Otherwise I really would've been messed up. The two stars are because the cakes are very good/fairly unique tasting (think Twinkies), but an issue like this has to be resolved in a better way than "I don't know how you received these emails from our email account." Best bet: order in-person and save your receipt! read more
