This is a wonderful bakery. Every single person working behind the counter was so helpful, kind, and patient, as we continuously pointed and asked "what's that?" They also sold us on everything. We tried a lot and I will rate it below: Red velvet cheesecake 4.5 stars. It is absolutely delicious, maybe a nit on the sweet side and the red velvet cake part wasn't chocolate red velvet, but more like a super moist vanilla sponge cake dyed red. The cheesecake part was lovely. The cheesecake crust was the best part. It wasn't graham cracker, but house-made perfection and if the entire cake was made out of it, we would be happy. Doubles: 4 stars. The regular (vegan chickpeas) had a delicate flavor but was still well spiced. It is just messy and difficult to eat on the go. The shrimp double was also flavorful although the shrimp was a bit over being in the warmer. Currant Roll: 4 stars. We were informed this is their most popular item and a must get - so we did - and loved it. It is filled with so many currants, is balanced with a delicate sweetness that didn't overwhelm and the pastry itself was baked to perfection. It tastes even better warm. Guava strudel: 5 stars when heated. That guava inside the pastry needs to be bottled up and sold there...I would buy it every single time. Beef patty: 4.5 stars - Here is the thing with this one - it is not a traditional beef patty as the ones they make at multiple shops in that area. This patty is more like a soft fluffy bread pastry with a mild beef filling. It tastes so surprisingly good that we got two more to go. Banana pudding: 3.5 stars - It is frozen and we needed to wait for it to thaw out but once it did - it was so unusual as they use pieces of their vanilla spongecake with the pudding. You get a lot of vanilla flavor and perhaps not enough banana so when we got home, we cut up pieces of banana and added it in. I like a lot of creamy pudding though and the cake kinda soaked it up. I have purchased bread from this bakery on several occasions, and today's experience was no different, which prompted me to write this review. Although I am consistently told that the bread is baked fresh, it rarely tastes fresh. It is often very hard, dry and lacks consistency in both taste and size. Frankly, today was not eadible and was thrown in the trash. For bread priced at $4.95 per loaf, and considering the number of customers this bakery serves regularly, consistency and quality should be a priority. If I could give no stars This is the worse bakery ever. They think just because they have been around for a long time that they can treat the community however they want. There's no way to even contact by phone because the phone either rings out or they answer quickly place you on hold, and make it so you wait so long the phone just hangs up. With all of that my mother still wanted her birthday cake from Allan's because the the nostalgia only for me to go and get the cake early morning and by the time I got home it fell into itself! I had the opportunity to sample Allan's Bakery at an event and cannot recommend it more! The Codfish Balls were tasty, with a crisp fried layer shelling a lot of filling. If you don't like fish, you won't like this as the flavor is strong. The Codfish Patties however, were much more mild and included vegetable filling. The meat patties were the best in my opinion, with even flaky crust (although I wish they had more filling). I had never had Fruit/Black Cake prior to this, but I LOVED it. It was rich, yet not overly sweet, dense/moist but did crumble a little messily when sliced. Put an order in for a cake for a friend 8:30 that morning, even had my sister go in to place it. Order was paid for, we were told it would be ready at 3pm. We went back at 4:30p. It was crowded and guess what, the cake wasn't done. They tell me "instead of complaining about the cake" I paid for in advance that needed to be delivered at a certain time and place, "tell them what I want written on the cake" so they can rush to do now. So now I have to wait. The audacity to have an attitude and tell me as a customer I have no business complaining. The manager who took the order, didn't even want to speak to me on the phone. I ordered a few patties in the meanwhile and insisted I get it complimentary for the inconvenience right. They weren't too happy. The nerve. I always support businesses esp black businesses. But the treatment of others has to improve. Now I definitely won't be going out my way to return. I was at an event this past week at the Little Carribean and they had the best snacks I've ever had in a long time. They had served beef, chicken patties and little Barbacalao bites that were super delicious. Even their vegetable patties tasted good and I don't like vegetables. Had to stop by this bakery after lunch this afternoon. My friend and I bought currant rolls here. They are $2.50 a piece which is a decent price. I love those currant rolls. My friend bought coconut rolls too which I will have to try next time. There wasn't much of a line today but usually there is so come early. The service was good. The ambiance is comforting... there were so many baked goods to choose from. I'll definitely be coming back for more currant rolls next time I'm in the area. A well know Caribbean staple located on nostrand serving delicious baked goods and island inspired eats. Although I've passed by this place too many times to count, the long lines always steered me away. However, I decided to stop by on a Friday morning at 8am before work and was lucky to only have 2 people ahead of me. I recommend knowing exactly what you wanna order before going because there's sooo many options and no one has time to wait while you decide at the counter. I obviously had to order their currant roll which is what they're mostly known for. I've never had one before and this might be my latest obsession. The crunch of the dough, the light tartness off the currant, and the sweetness of the cinnamon sugar was the perfect combo. I also got the codfish balls which were tasty and a veggie patty which I didn't care for. The bakery is cash only so come prepared or use the atm on site. Most items are under $5 tho so unless you plan to order one of everything, a twenty is usually more than enough. This is a take out spot only although I know they opened some sort of bar next door? Now y'all know I love supporting local businesses and especially love supporting all things Caribbean. For this reason, Allan's is usually my go to for a good codfish and bakes sandwich. I've heard about this institution of a bakery for the longest time from my Brooklyn friends, and finally got to visit! While they don't offer any gluten-free offerings at the bakery, it doesn't mean that they now don't have an adorable spot (and event space with an amazing DJ if you're into Soca!) for drinks for us to hang out at, with a small food menu where they can do a couple items gluten-free in case you're craving a bite. We got here after an early brunch to start our day drinking early before the party got started ( they were setting up for a private event), and waitress was super nice, the space was cute and Instagramable, and the drinks were stroooooong, though a bit on the pricy side. You're required to wear your mask and social distance when you enter. They ask that you respect 5 ppl being served at a time which ppl do adhere too. I was given a patty, coconut and current rolls per elite Yelp agreement. In addition I bought a soft dough bread, 6 more current rolls and 4 more coconut rolls. The cashier was so helpful with getting my order together and advising cash only. I couldn't even wait to get home to eat my coconut roll. I satanized and tore it up before heading home. I imagine this is how Caribbean grandmothers pastries taste like - DELICIOUS. Tips: 1. Order online, the line can get pretty long on weekends, out the door long. I ordered from Seamless and was ready in about 30 minutes. 2. Double-parking for this bakery is unavoidable, try to not get trapped in by the double-parkers unless you're in no rush. The only negative feedback I do have is; they should be more attentive to those picking up their order either personal or delivery service. There is a small countertop sign designated for pick up, but it seems to be neglected. I ordered the beef patty, chicken patty, bread pudding, and bake & salt fish. So glad I got to try a few things here - between the morning and noon rush. Here's what I got: Beef Patty: juicy filling, turnover pastry. Chicken Patty: a little dry, tasty but preferred the beef Currant Roll: don't miss this one! Coconut Roll: I really enjoyed this, similar to salara if you've experienced Caribbean baked goods before. Coconut drops (5 pieces): these were so yummy. Would recommend having with tea Cheese Sticks (approx 6 pieces): tasty, a little on the dry side 2 bake and salted cod fish: this one aimed to please and it did! Bake was perfect, soft yet had a nice chew to it. Salted fish was not skimpy! Lots of filling. Don't miss this if they have it onsite. :) Everything was super affordable and nicely packaged for carry out. I got a few extras to share at a picnic I was attending later that day One note: I saw signs noting they had polourie, doubles, and bake mainly on weekends (specified days may change - so be sure to double check) Took a star off because the energy in the bakery is a little chaotic, wanted to disclose that. The day before Thanksgiving I called in an order and paid for 2 pineapple filling cakes, one to read "Happy Thanksgiving the other to read Happy Birthday Arthur & Ebb" Upon pickup the cake read, "Happy Birthday Arthur & Edd" When I told them it was incorrect and asked them to correct it, they told me they were not going to fix it. I went here as part of an elite event for Caribbean-American Heritage month and was so happy to have found it! The pastries were amazing and delicious. As part of my event, I was able to try a Chicken Patty, a Coconut Roll, and a Currant Roll (see my review on event page). I also ended up buying a Coconut Tart and Bread Pudding, and was so happy that I did! The Coconut Tart was amazing! It had sweet, grated coconut inside the pastry and tasted like a dream. It's even better when it's a bit warm because the coconut tastes even better. The best part was it wasn't too sweet. I highly recommend trying it! I love Bread Pudding and this one did not disappoint! It was firm but wiggly, and my fork cut through it easily. It was so good! It wasn't very sweet, and was very filling. I also recommend grabbing a slice! Overall, it's easy to see why this spot is a local favorite because the food is so tasty! This family run operation has been going for three generations strong, and judging by their recent renovation and line down the block on a daily basis, they're not stopping anytime soon. Note that they only accept cash, but they do have an ATM inside if you forget to bring any. Mentally prepare to wait in line on most days, and to know exactly what you want to order once you get to the front. Things move rather quickly here and they won't really stop to let you ruminate on their options, which can be quite overwhelming. To start, I'd recommend their famous currant rolls, coconut rolls, and a patty-- beef or veggie filled, depending on your taste. The cod fish fritters are fantastic heated up, as are their coconut drops. Everything is made fresh daily on the premises and you can taste it in every bite. Everything is also incredibly affordable, so just grab a 20 dollar bill, drop by, and order to your heart's content. You can come away with a bounty of food that'll last you all week. read more

I stopped in with a taste for those amazing shrimp doubles and a coconut roll. Surprisingly, I found parking (metered) and the line was short. The lady who took my order was a little crabby, but the other staff seemed naturally good natured. She did how ever give me a big juicy coconut roll, so all is forgiven, lol. If you can put up with the long lines, and you don't have a choice since they always exist, you'll be privy to sumptuous coconut rolls, the most scarlet salara, juicy pine tarts, and the best best best current rolls in the nation (the best!). We used to always get birthday cakes from there too, which I still miss. If I'm nearby, I must always stop and at least get two current rolls (you can, but shouldn't) just buy one. The coconut rolls (neither are round when cut, more like thick slivers) are the best around too.
