With a $75 credit burning a hole in my wallet I approached Leilani's, first at their second floor…read morerestaurant (Leilani's On The Beach) before heading down to the ground floor (Leilani's Beach Bar). I had a hunch which I'd prefer and followed my intuition. The more casual Beach Bar was the vibe I was feeling and its menu set the right tone. If you've wandered over after a day at the beach and want to keep things simple choose Leilani's Beach Bar. Arrive before sunset and get a seat close to where the live music will be played. As I left I was surprised to note how far other diners were from the music. Some folks prefer this but I wanted to be wrapped up in it; a seat right in front of the 3-piece band was perfect. Also perfect? The sunset view. Yes, it's probably more lovely from their upstairs counterpart, but not so different that I regretted the trade-off. Keeping things simple is a good idea here. To accompany the beer and wine at my table an order of onion rings (excellent) was shared. I enjoyed their version of a Cobb Salad and their hyped Fish Tacos ("Voted Maui's Best" supposedly) were said to be good as well. Drinks, appetizer, salad, tacos, music, sunset... That's the way I'd recommend you do Leilani's Beach Bar. There's plenty of similar places nearby (possibly from the same ownership group) and I've been to Hawaii often enough to have garnered the feeling that they're all a bit similar. In this regard, I say keep it simple and casual. Leilani's Beach Bar (no reservations accepted) does just that. I left happy that I'd chosen right.

Was just walking around and happened to walk inside of Duke's Lane. And there I see it... A sign that says Prime Rib. Well.. That sounds bomb! Looks like I have my restaurant and what I'm going to eat. So once dinner time hit, I head over to Basalt! The Prime Rib was delicious. Perfectly cooked and tender. It comes with mashed potatoes, vegetable medley, and creamy horseradish and au jus sauce. Ah everything was delicious! I finished it all! Washed it down with a Basalt Mai Tai! For dessert - I got the Mochi Brownie. Mmm.. Mmm.. So good! Also got hooked up with a scoop of vanilla gelato! (Make this a thing! Lol). I was stuffed and had to get some steps in before heading back to the hotel. Lol. Service - Really good and friendly. I sat at the bar and Mykah (sorry if I spelled your name wrong) was awesome and gave some good recommendations. Price $45 for the prime rib. Can't beat that! Will I be back? Oh heck yes! See you when I see you Basalt!

PICTURED 01. citrus-cured salmon toast: country bread, lemon-cream cheese, scrambled eggs, capers, red onions, chives, waipoli mixed greens ($22) if i could eat this for breakfast every day, i could envision becoming a morning person. i loved how the citrus and capers brightened every savory bite. the bread was perfectly toasted and the vegetables were wonderfully crisp. 02. crab cake benedict: english muffin, kale, two poached waialua eggs, hollandaise, yuzu kosho honey mustard, sidewinder potatoes ($28) this was a refreshing take on a classic breakfast item. the crab cake and potatoes were salted just right! 03. charcoal buttermilk pancakes: guava strawberry sauce, ash whipped cream, berries ($20) these pancakes were a DREAM: fluffy and accompanied by sauce that was not too sweet!

I was lucky enough to snag a last-minute reservation for two at the bar, and while we were there, I noticed our favorite Maui musician, Akoni, was playing that Friday and Saturday. Of course, I had to try to get back! I managed to grab another last-minute reservation, and we were seated right by Akoni. It was the perfect night -- amazing food, wonderful service, great music, and such a fun atmosphere. Seeing Akoni is always a highlight for us, but getting to enjoy his music at Merriman's made it even better. 10/10 recommend Merriman's and 20/10 recommend seeing Akoni perform live (and stream his music on Spotify)!

We were expecting good things due to other reviews and we were not disappointed. We loved the restaurant rustic vibe, the servers were on it, food came out in excellent time frames and the food itself.... Delicious! Not pictured was the ox tail Mac & cheese, lobster spinach artichoke dip and the cornbread which were bigger portions than we expected. I would even go back just for the black cherry soda. With that being said with seasonal menus I'm excited to go back to try other dishes and I Highly recommend this restaurant

I was staaaarving so for me and baby I ordered: - Cornbread - I love their cornbread. This was my fave of all the dishes we had. - Bone Marrow - This was probably the biggest marrow I've had anywhere. Like choke marrow. Awesome. Alcohol didn't light on the whole plate so only had little bit and baby couldn't have any. Think no bourbon next time. Just sprinkle some salt and it would be perf. - Chopped - All kine goodies in this salad but the dressing was very "nothing." I added some garlic salt when I ate the leftovers and it kicked it up a notch. - Chicken Pappardelle - The pasta was terrible. So thick and doughy. Took away from the chicken which was okay. Ended up dumping the leftover pasta...which was pretty much the whole thing. - Oxtail Mac & Cheese - This was more like an Oxtail Helper (like Hamburger Helper). Very not cheesey. Baby ate some but think she wanted more cheese. Tasted better the next day. Friends had the Prime. The temp on each was given to the wrong person, which needed to be right since 1 person didn't get the roasted pot. The medium-rare one was cold. Like COLD. Strange. Overall think they fell a little short on the food. Some things GREAT, some thing the opposite, so balanced out. Will I go back? Of course, but now I know what not to get.

Makawao, HI. Rather lush surroundings here with an…read moreenchanting peaceful vibe. An evening dinner here needs to be had outside, on the lanai. The inside seating has no romantic ambiance, better suited for lunch or breakfast. We had a lot of attention from two servers who attended to our culinary needs more than adequately. The vintage style lighting is perfect, in many cases they are staying with the warmth of incandescent lamps but the LED's that are in service are not too harsh and blend in. The warm garlic bread with caramelized onion was outstanding and we were served another round after devouring the first. The tempered butter really provided emphasis for the consumption. Our three course prix fixe menu started with soup or salad. Both were wonderful. The soup was full of kale but the flavors of the soup were absorbed by said kale and it worked well. The salad had fresh spring greens and the dressing was a light rice vinegar sesame that really complimented the greens without overpowering them. The Mahi Curry over jasmine rice came with roasted vegetables. The vegetables had a slight hint of char that was perfect, a rare attempt at this in restaurants in my experience. The curry was not overly spicy and slightly sweet, a good version. The fish was very good, ever so slightly overcooked for my preference. The glazed salmon was pretty awesome. The fish was cooked absolutely perfect. The glaze was not overly sweet and had a bit of soy sauce flavor to it. The roasted veggies on the side were great. The matcha pot de crème was rich and addictive. It was presented with fresh berries on top and was a delight. Lilikoi chia seed dragonfruit pudding with coconut was very different for me. Definitely what I would call an "Adult" dessert. Not one bit sugary and every bite interesting. Note to self: take it easy on the bread at the beginning of the meal and you won't get so stuffed.

We were sitting next to a large table, which seemed to believe they should command our servers attention. At every moment this reduce dthe overall experience. FYI, this is a small dog friendly restaurant. Two patrons had dogs on one side of the restaurant. They were well behaved, but I don't really want to eat with other people's pets and a fine dining situation. If you're lucky to go when they're not totally full, you should be able to have a very good experience.
