Man, those who got a chance to eat at the old location get to consider themselves part of the "back in my day" Old School! What a cool old - just off the interstate gem of a building. Sadly, I am not amongst those that got to pull off Hwy 80 and enjoy that awesome orange ambiance. That building is true Americana - with the extended awning of a full service gas station or roller skate diner but with the country isolation of a pie stand run by a friendly, if not quirky owner who resides in the back living quarters under the satellite dish and decorates the walls with UFO and conspiracy theory paraphernalia. But if it was the bright orange building that got me to pull off Hwy 80, it was the tacos at the new location that will get me to pull off next time I'm heading up to Tahoe! Mr. Taco is the best Mexican food I've ever had. My fiance and I stop in every time we are on Highway 80, even if we're not hungry (I know that sounds bad). The service is wonderful, the food is fresh and fantastic, and the pickled carrots they serve are mouth watering. Definitely miss the old orange dome. My daughter and I stopped here on our way to Reno. It was a convenient pit stop. The service was good, the restaurant was clean enough. Food was okay. I got the carnitas burrito and it was very plain; rice, beans, and meat. It was large, but pretty dry. The "super" has sour cream I believe. Not sure how this place stays open! First and last time coming to this place...waiter was great and very friendly, the food on the other hand was simply NASTY! I ordered Camarones al mojo de ajo...horrible horrible taste, rice had absolutely no flavor and the beans are straight out of a can! My friend ordered fajitas...they serve taco meat and chicken as there fajitas..very poor presentation of plates. It was years ago when a friend told me about this place. It was back when it was still at George's Orange. My friend told me about a dish a have yet to see at other Mexican restaurants: the Molcajete, named after the dish it's traditionally cooked in. In a word: Yummy. In two words: Meat fest. It's basically a dish with chicken, pork, beef, and cactus. And it's so good. One order of this feeds about two people, so get it and share it. It's more than enough if you count the riuce and beans and tortillas you eat with it. I still go to Mr. Taco for my Molcajete fix, even if they have other stuff on the menu. I haven't seen any other place around that has anything close to this dish. Mmmm. read more

Mr. Taco has some of the best burritos around. The grilled chicken super burrito is great. Chicken, beans, cheese, lettuce, salsa, sour creme, guacamole... and it's huge! I always end up taking 1/2 to 3/4 home with me for later. Chipotle (pft!) doesn't have a thing on Mr. Taco. It's no longer located next to George's Orange, but has moved right across the street to a place next to the hotel. Their new place has more seating! read more

Today I wanted a great taco and many recommended places were closed. I said I'll just go for Mr. TACO HOW CAN A MOM N POP GET IT WRONG. Boy was I wrong. The waitress seemed angry that I asked how was the meat cooked? Did it have great flavor. All she said was its shredded or grilled the shredded had a sauce taste. I went for the shredded fried taco. This taco was so plain adding hot sauce and guacamole did no justice. The guacamole was watered down. Seems like a $15.00 waste. I guess next time I'll just make my own. We have given this place several tries, and continue to feel like it's lacking. The food here is relatively inexpensive, and portions are huge, but very very bland. If it weren't for some homeade roasted tomato salsa we drowned our burritos in (we get take out), then we would have been in serious trouble. The only reason I would say to go here is if you live in Dixon like unfortunately we do right now. Your choices are pretty limited. This place is fast and convenient. Mr. Taco's tacos are some of the best I've ever had, and I've eaten a lot of tacos in LA, SF, Denver and beyond. Specifically, the carne asada and carnitas are very very good. Each meat is complimented by different salsas and toppings that bring out the best features of the pork or beef. For example, the carnitas are served with onions, cilantro, green salsa and a little guac. The Taco's are huge so two is plenty for a meal. Although it's not health food, they aren't grease bombs either. Not sure where the bad reviews are coming from, but if you are going to a Mexican place for a Cuban drink, the decor, or hoping to eat Chipotle, you will be often disappointed. I would give them 5 stars if I was solely basing the review on taste and price. But unfortunately we have been disappointed by them this year. Not a single person (register to server to cook) will wear a mask or even seem to care. We don't feel safe eating there right now but will go back after COVID is over. Also, we ordered through Door Dash once during normal business hours (we verified they were open before ordering) and after paying before the delivery person could get there 10 minutes later, they closed their door prematurely. Learn to say this word: Molcajete (Mole-Ka-Hey-Tay). I'm serious. Mole-Ka-Hey-Tay! Molcajete! Molcajete! This is one amazing dish that I have never ever seen on another taqueria menu (and I have been to more than my fair share - my bathroom scale can attest to that). Tasty, Succulent . . . just plain freakin' delicious. Seriously. I had ordered something else when a few minutes later the waitress comes out and delivers this black caldron heeped high with meat (mixture of beef, chicken and pork) mixed with onions, spices and cactus and topped with guacamole wedges and strips of carrots to the next table. The aroma!!!! My eyes popped out of my head and my mouth was agape - I'm sure I drooled. I then noticed the couple across the way was knoshing on the same dish. So I changed my order and I'm glad I did. My family was glad I did. My daughters really liked their pozole and seafood soups but couldn't stop reaching over and eating my Molcajete. I kept swatting their hands - they were worse than pesky flies at a picnic. On the drive home they talked about returning to order the Molcajete. Rarely would I say a place is worth going to because of a singular dish. Not everyone is gonna want to eat the ONE THING but in this case I am making an exception. Vegans should just "give in" for this dish (kind'a like the carnivore in me "giving in" when I go to Cafe Gratitude). The left over Molcajete was delicious the next morning with scrambled eggs - a different kind of huevos rancheros but a pleasure to the ol' palate nonetheless. So do yourself a favor. Stopped by Mr Tacos on my way back home and ordered the special steak and shrimp burrito to go. I also asked for no rice and fresh peppers inside. It's amazing how often a custom ordered is mistaken. These guys got it right and it was delicious!!!! Everything was fresh, full of flavor and well worth the stop. Didn't even know about this place till someone mentioned it the other day. Good place to grab a burrito for the road. There's a great waitress who most often works the lunch shift and she's 75% of why I go there, just to be cheered up by a positive personality. The food is good enough and the place is clean. Prices are reasonable and they are good about getting the food out. I've had breakfast there on a weekend and even had their menudo, though their pozole is really better. There's a lot of Mexican restaurants in the area but you should try this place out for good food. and welcoming service. You won't be disappointed. read more

This is a great local spot that serves the best Al Pastor in town! I love getting the Lengua and Al Pastor Tacos and always leave happy! Its a tough crowd for people in town when it comes to Mexican Food and would be much more popular if the location was not so isolated. Rude guy, loud TV in spanish....boo!! Went in for lunch for the first time. I glanced over the menu and ordered a carne asada torta... $6.99 plus a coke. Was served chips and salsa and a soda filled to the top with ice. My buddy ordered the same and we were served chips and salsa. Torta was bland so was the salsa. I got a refill on my soda and chips and salsa. When I went to pay my total was $14. I said wait...torta and soda shouldn't be more then $9-10. He said they charge for soda refills and chip refills. The food here is on the sweet side which is odd for a Mexican resturant. Food was pretty cheap, but I didn't care for my burrito ala diabla with shrimp. It had some odd sweet sauce. I hovered between giving them 3 or 4 stars. I don't like their chips and salsa; I think they just buy chips in bulk. They don't seem to have a salsa, which is chopped vegetables and chiles. They have a hot sauce, which is ground red peppers in a tomato base, I think. Good on entrees, not good on chips. However, every burrito or entree I've ordered has been pretty good for the money. This place is somewhat more expensive than Taco Bell, and much, much better. You can sit down, or order to go, and service is reasonably fast either way. So, if I'm hungry, my choices, in order of preference, are: 1. Eat here. (very good, no trouble expected) 2. Eat at Taco Bell. (Not good, probably no emergency room visit needed though) 3. There burrito tortilla feel a bit undercooked for my liking, seemed a bit doughy. Place is right off the 80, taste overall was okay.. Relatively bland with nit too many salsa options. Not bad, not great, just okay. The service is pretty good tho as the workers are nice. No pico de gallo here though which is a bit of a letdown.
