Used to drop in here from time to time on the way home from my long commute when I worked in the Bay Area. It was always a special occasion when me and my car pool buddies decided to take even more time on the way home, which was already a 3 hour commute...we usually had to be pretty hungry. Simple, delicious. Been past two times after working out at nearby gym and it's such a treat. You order up front first then seat yourself. You also get chips and salsa once you're seated. We traveled Mexico for three months and totally enjoyed everything about it, especially the fresh foods! We just had shrimp (soft) tacos that are just like in Mexico! Our daughter had a strawberry milkshake that took me back to my youth. My grandson had a mango smoothie and some crisp tacos that kept him from saying anything during the whole meal! I've driven past this place for a few years and always contemplated stopping. Finally did, and it was a good choice. I looked at a lot of yelp pictures before I went in. I ordered an Asada taco, a carnitas taco, and a fish taco. All were pretty dang good. Asada was good, needed a little salt, but I scarfed it. Carnitas have really good flavor, like they were actually cooked in a cazo with Manteca. The fish taco, oh the fish taco. I'm not a fish taco type of guy mind you, but this one was pretty good. I think they forgot the crema, and I did drench it in salsa. Still, it was taste. I will definitely go back to this place. The menu is basically an entire wall on the inside of the restaurant. Went in for a couple of tacos, as I walked in I felt pretty uncomfortable. The owner and his family was huddled together at a table watching soccer. The looks I received because I was disturbing them from watching the soccer game was not very welcoming. The menu board was a mess. I'm ordered two chicken tacos, there was nothing exciting about them but how can you mess up chicken tacos. I can tell you how, the CHICKEN tacos tasted very fishy. I had a drink and the owner put more ice than drink. Don't ask for a refill unless you're willing to pay three dollars and some change extra. What's that saying once and done. Don't sleep on Mr. Taco's. They are super fast and the food is so good! Best shrimp burrito around, hands down. Order the "shrimp ala diabla" burrito. Spicy and freaking delicious! I have eaten here many times. The food is usually good. Today I ordered 2 micheladas and Camarones A la plancha. It was all awful. The michelada was so so salty. I even ordered another beer to try to water the salt down and it was still terrible. My shrimp had no flavor. Like boiled shrimp. No grill marks and rubbery. I was starving so I forced down about 6 bites. For over $18.99?!?!? Please if Mr.Taco reads this, take the shrimp off your menu. It's terrible no one will like it. They may suffer thru but it will not gain you a new customer. Stick to what you are good at. As far as the service it's always great. It's the food that's very unpredictable. read more

My recommendation is the AL pastor super burrito, make sure you ask for their green sauce to pour on top - it's so good it's drinkable. The civiche is the best. I need to keep this review honest; as much as I hate to give bad reviews to a mom and pop place. Sooooo, I won't give it a bad review, just some constructive criticism. We ordered a michelada, tacos and sopes. Michelada: On the rim of the mug, try tajin, instead of just salt. It gives it a better look and flavor. Besides that, it had good flavor. Sopes: Props for using real masa. NOW if you could deep fry them suckers before serving them. It looks like if they were just cooked on a comal. It makes for a soggy. They big sopes, so it makes for a soggy meal. DEEP FRY them and make them crispy. It reminded me of a Chicago style pizza pie. Tacos: I ordered tacos de pastor. The meal looks like it was steamed. Not crunchy, nor grilled, no flair. Just regular carnicería meat preparada. I can do that at home. It needed grease or IDK what, but it wasn't good. I ordered 3 tacos and only ate 2. The service is also slow and sometimes he just leaves you standing outside waiting when your food is ready. It's not that hard to bring it over. Vegan review: Traveling in the afternoon from the bay to Sacramento and I really wanted Taco Bell. Thankfully I got off on the wrong exit and ended up seeing a little worn sign reading "mr tacos". I had time to spare, so I went in for a solo sit down meal. The lovely lady at the front was very warm and smiley. She told me I could sit where I wanted. I got my own basket of chips and salsa to accompany me. I ordered the vegetarian tostada without sour cream and cheese and a side of rice. It came out promptly. It was covered in lettuce, so I at least had a good amount of my veggies for the day! The whole plate was gone in under 10 minutes.
