Usually this place is very highly recommended! Last few weekends it is going progressively downhill. Last weekend I ordered a large menudo, with extra hominy. Mariachi Thursday 7pm (6/7/18). Ordered bean & cheese nachos with chili con queso. Delicious combination with iced tea. Also had cheese enchiladas. Corn tortillas we're hard as if just rolled. I have eaten at Mr Taco in both Lockhart and Luling many times. I think Luling is a lot better. Margaritas in both restaurants are just mediocre. I usually order an extra shot and then they are pretty good. It seems to me that the Lockhart location was a bit dark and didn't feel clean. Guacamole in both places are ok but I have had good and just ok at both places. I think it just depends on who is making it. But I still prefer Luling. Wait staff are always cheerful and service is a little slow but I am retired and am not overly concerned. I just get to have another margarita with a shot! The street tacos in Luling are one of my favorites but sometimes the beef is dry and hard. But overall most of the time food has been pretty good. Morning tacos at both places have been really good so don't be afraid to go through the line in the morning. All of the above is my opinion so try both and see what you think. Waited in a single lane (with no way out) drive thru line for 25 minutes. Got to the window, and am told the system has crashed and they aren't taking anything but cash at the moment. Rather than rectify the situation they got angry at me for being frustrated, refused to do anything to help, then refused to serve me the food I had waited 30 mins at that point for. THEN they proceeded to tape up a make shift curtain over the drive thru window just to avoid talking to me. I am not making this up people. They kept eye contact with me the entire time they taped it up. I was like "is this seriously happening?". If that wasn't awkward enough, the manager FINALLY came out to tell the cars behind us about the situation. The sheer level of unprofessional and disrespectful conduct by the staff and management was dumbfounding. I have never seen such a poorly run business in my life. If you are traveling through Lockhart and it's either too early for BBQ or you crave Mexican food Mr Taco is a great option. I've stopped here a number of times for breakfast as I love their breakfast tacos. They also have a full breakfast menu as well. I've never stopped for lunch or dinner but based on breakfast it's got to be good. Service was fine on both occasions and using a POS for ordering and processing your CC payment really helps. Take out is always busy and larger orders will slow them up a bit, but what's your rush? Let's see a perfect day would be Mr Taco in the AM and Lockhart BBQ on the return trip. read more

Grabbed breakfast here, I would have been fine grabbing it from McDonalds instead, if only for the consistency of McDonalds being cheap and easy. Mr Taco had plenty of seats available and most people were getting mexican breakfast, but I got the early bird special, which was more american, eggs and toast. Visited this place tonight for dinner. When we arrived service was a little slow, but once we got a waitress, things moved a lot more quickly. Regarding the food: The salsa is bad. It kinda tasted like spicy v8 but thicker. It was edible but not real salsa. I ordered the carne guisada which was actually pretty good as well as the queso we ordered (although the menu says it's spicy- it's not). The rice isn't very good and the refried beans are okay. The restaurant was clean and staff were pretty nice. I may still try their breakfast tacos, I hear they are really good. I'll let you guys know when that happens! read more

Caution when eating here!!! My dad was eating the puffy taco plate and was choking on a think wire that they use to clean their dishes with. The manager never came out to see how he was doing. My mom had to go in the men's bathroom to help him because he was getting dizzy and almost fainted from lack of oxygen. Very disappointed on the lack of compassion and concern that management had. I was driving through Lockhart on Saturday with the kids, and one of them sees Mr. Taco and instantly wants to go there. Always up for a new place, we went in with fairly low expectations. It took us a while to figure out what to order because the menu was so new. i got the chile relleno with chicken. My wife got enchiladas, and the kids got some taco plates. After dinner, we got an order of 10 sopapillas. Unlike another reviewer, ours were fluffy and puffed, not greasy at all. The food was good for the price, but not earth-moving. What really made the experience was the live mariachi band, that showed up out of nowhere toward the end of our meal. Turned an otherwise "meh" experience into a family memory, and something I'd come back for. (Next time I'm in Lockhart.) read more

The service was slow. The Waitress Betty was rude. I arrived at 10:45. Asked for chips and salsa. Waitress told me I would have to pay extra for them. WHAT? How much? "About $2.50". I asked why. She replied back very rudely... "I ASKED YOU IF YOU WANTED SALSA ALREADY AND YOU SAID NO". Umm Well no, actually she just asked if we needed anything and at that moment I did not realize there was no salsa served with the food as it should have been. She did not need to be so rude. Anyways, then I asked if I could have some chips to scoop my beans. "It is now after 11:00am". Her reply was " NOPE! Technically you sat down before 11:00am". We ate here on Friday night and the service wasn't extremely bad our waitress was busy so I understand a little wait time but the food was horrible my daughter who is 7 had to go to the emergency room because of the food she ate there she got the chicken strips and told me at the time they tasted funny but I took it as my child not wanting to eat well the next morning she woke up with symptoms of food poisoning later on that evening she was showing signs of dehydration and we took her in she had to stay a few hours but we walked out with them telling us she has food poisoning we called mr taco the next day only for them to tell us it's not their problem and to call the health inspector this place is absolutely horrible none of the others at our table got sick so it had to be the chicken she's the only one who ate it definitely eat at this place at your own risk read more

This place stays in business because of breakfast tacos, have to admit they are fast and tasty but these owners have no concept of customer service. Not sure if they purposely hire rude people or maybe they start off nice and become horrible because owners are not around. I first started coming here when I moved to Lockhart, it was cozy friendly and had really good food. After every renovation, the prices always went up while food quality and service tanked. This is a regular place for us. I Ain't the type to complain on our waitstaff and we have waited 30 min for food. But today the waitstaff at Mr Taco ( not our waitress Leticia was good) really sucked. Breakfast is pretty good, but their lunch and dinner selection is sub par, the carne guisada looks like canned dog food, and doesn't have much flavor. And their ground beef is basically taco bell level. Their staff is pretty good. They had a waitress training last time we went, so I can't really rate her. For years, this has been a favorite spot of mine. However, the last two times have not been good. Once was for breakfast tacos a few weeks ago and they were sadly nothing to write home about. Today, it was a mix of food and service. One waitress took our drink order and disappeared. She never brought our drinks. Another waitress took our order. I asked for cheese enchiladas, and I ended up with beef. I don't mind beef, so it was not a huge deal. Rice and beans were tasteless, which was disappointing. The waitress forgot the tortillas for another member of our table, and never offered to refill our drinks. It took forever for us to get our check and for the waitress to pick it up and cash out. I love this place, but the last two visits in the past 4 weeks have been very disappointing. :( read more

The building is old and a bit run down but the food is amazing. The customer service has been super on both visits. I ordered the puffy taco this visit and was surprised at how much flavor the chicken had. My son ordered the big burrito, it was enough food for three.
