I have only been here once on Valentine's day a few years ago and it was amazing! I love sushi and their menu was packed with not only great varieties of sushi, rolls, and sushami, but their prices were amazingly perfect. I recommend it to anyone who doesn't want to pay a ton of money of just a few rolls for themselves. First of all I never do reviews, but my experience was that sucky that I had to write one. The service was absolutely horrendous this past weekend. Dirty plates never got picked up. We had to request for them to be taken away because we got tired of staring at them. Wait staff was super inattentive. Drinks never got refilled after being emptied. Server even forgot to put one of our orders in! After 45 minutes of waiting for that item, I asked where it was, and the server admitted it hadn't been put in. Also they were not busy. The server was talking/joking with the other employees and filling up soy sauce cups. And we've had way better sushi from other places. Food was mediocre at best. I would never not leave a tip, but the service definitely didn't deserve the 18% that we left. Do not recommend for dining in! read more

Favorite sushi spot!! The food is amazing! The wait staff is so wonderful and attentive. Found this spot randomly and now my family and I have become regulars. The have a great selection of perfectly balanced hand rolls, the freshest seafood, and have a monthly interchangeable small menu(special rolls, appetizers,entrees) that always houses a surprise, in addition to their main menu. I just moved to Pompton Lakes and to my surprise I kept on seeing a delivery car in my complex from Mr Sushi....got a kick out of it and the delivery car is here often, multiple times a night sometimes. A friend and I decided to try And went to the restaurant directly. It was hard to park and once we got there the place was tiny bit we were seated right away. It seems there were more waiters than there were tables and our waitress was on pint. She was super fast and very friendly, she took orders right away and appetizers came out real fast. I had the shrimp shumai while my friend had the seaweed salad. I never tried that kind of salad and to my delight I actually liked it. It was very well seasoned. Not at all what I expected. Very tasty. Shumai were great! We both ordered rolls, I had the Manhattan roll and fell in love. Shrimp tempura, with crab and avocado wrapped in seaweed and rice topped with spicy crab salad and Topiko. Absolutely delicious and fresh!! So fresh we almost thought the cab was real crab and not imitation. I forgot what she ordered but it was so good she didn't want to share it! The portions were large , so large we skipped on dessert. The price was reasonable too. Waitress did an excellent job. They turned the table pretty fast since the place is small but we were never rushed to leave. It was a great experience overall. A couple weeks later I was at home and craving sushi but did not feel like dealing with the parking situation so I called in. The person answering the phone was super friendly and upbeat. I once again ordered my Manhattan roll and the shumai. I was a little concerned getting the shumai delivered since that type of appetizer is better hot and fresh. I was told my order would be there in 45 mins. I was pleasantly surprised when they called me to tell me they were in my parking lot 20 mins after I placed the order . The kid delivering was a little weird. He had the wrong building and when he rang my doorbell he would not let himself in after I buzzed him in...figured maybe for safety purposes he was uncomfortable coming up to my apartment, he also didn't have change on him. Needless to say I was not as impressed as I was with the service when I went to the restaurant directly. That being said the food was awesome, and hot so no complaints. Tonight I decided to call in again, ordered the same thing as usual and decided to try their fried rice with chicken. Same great phone service, this time I paid over the phone with a credit card. I was told that they knew I loved close but because they were busy it would take them 45 to 50 mins to deliver. Not a problem, I anticipated that since it was 7pm on a Saturday night and called before I was too hungry. Again, they were early and arrived within a half hour. This was a different person, he had no problem going up the stairs after I buzzed him in and came in my apartment for me to sign the receipt and tip. Even had a pen on him. Shumai and Manhattan roll did not disappoint, but I have to say I was not impressed with the chicken fried rice. It lacked in taste a little bit, was bland and mushy and had frozen carrot cubes in it..it wasn't disgusting, I guess my expectations were high since their food is good and fresh every time! Anyway, long story short, the food is fresh, tasty and awesome, as is the service and people answering the phone. Portions are generous and there is absolutely no room for complaints. read more

This is consistently the best sushi place I have ate from. They seem to be one of the only places that makes shrimp tempura rolls just the way I like them. I can't stand when the roll is wide with the seaweed on the outside and almost impossible to eat without destroying it.. Sushi was excellent , but service was horrible. I ordered pick up, and the food was ready as soon as I arrived , in about 15 minutes . I walked in towards the counter and was asked my name by an employee . I told him my name, and he said it will be ready in a couple minutes. I look down and I see my order just sitting there ready to go. I then look back up and the kid is just standing there texting on his phone. I stood there for 10 minutes without saying a word, until a gentleman came up to me (looked like a manager ) and he asked what I am waiting for. I told him my name and he saw my order packaged and ready to go. The same order I have been staring at for the past 10 minutes . As I am paying one of the girls, all of the teenagers working there behind the counter are gossiping . I finally got my food and left. Very good sushi, very bad service. read more

Mr. Sushi came highly recommended by local residents as well as friends. Small place, but clean and well staffed. The servers were friendly & provided exceptional service. Highly recommend the Kani salad if you like crabmeat. We ordered the chef kamikaze roll as well as a monthly special spicy roll LOADED with spicy crab & salmon. Both were fantastic! The three sushi chefs work in a very small & tight space up front, but they were all happy & smiling. My only problem was the side seating was a bit tight. Not the place for private conversation. I ordered delivery for the first time on July 22, 2013. They were extremely enthusiastic and polite while I placed my order on the phone. I ordered the Chirashi Sashimi. The delivery was quick and the driver very courteous; however, the food was well below my standards; I could have gotten better quality had I gone to the A&P supermarket down the road for a lot cheaper. The fish was obviously not fresh, the tuna was a pale pink and the salmon slimey. A small taste to humor myself prompted me to throw my dinner away and order pizza instead. Raw fish is not something to skimp on quality and I expected my dinner to be fresher than what was delivered. I would strongly urge to go to Muzuki or Yuki in Butler instead. If you are insistant on going here; I would suggest you walk inside and inspect what they are serving before spending money on something that you may very well end up throwing away or getting sick over. read more

I've been to many sushi places but no other place compares to the fresh and delicious rolls that Mr. Sushi offers. I prefer sushi over sashimi but I do enjoy a few pieces here and there; their sashimi is fresh, crisp, and soft on the tongue. My favorite is their magma roll and their Pompton Lake roll. It's deeeeeelicious! It also doesn't hurt that food presentation is put into consideration. Writing this post makes me want to make a Mr. Sushi run. read more
