First appointment was for a Monday. Got a call that their guy, (the only guy they have in my area-NW Burbs of Chicago), cannot make it and it will be Wednesday. Ok, stuff happens; but still; they need more than ONE guy.
Wednesday. My mom stays home to let him in. My wife and I go to work.
Five minutes into the appointment I get a call asking, "Where are the keys?"
"Umm....they are with my car keys, on me...at work. Why?
"Where are your wife's keys?
"Umm, her keys are with her car keys...at work. Why?"
I'm then told by Sergio that: "Keys are SUPPOSED to be left at the home". We "should have known this."
My response: "Then why didn't your office SAY THAT when I made the appointment?" Or, why didn't they SAY THAT when they called me to RESCHEDULE?
(I didn't even need my current keys since they were being swapped out and when I got home they wouldn't work anyway so I would have had no problem leaving them at home...if only I had been TOLD so.)
Then I'm told that he cannot do the work until I pay him $20 for some re-code now.
Really? "Yeah...It's not covered"
Then he proceeds to tell me that he needs to do it now, because he has another appointment he's late for, and he then also shared that it took him TWO and a HALF hours to get to my house!
1. Like that's my problem?
2. Again, you need more than ONE guy.
3. Use GPS. We live in Elgin Illinois. Not exactly farm country. If it took you 2.5 hours to get to my home; WHERE DID YOU COME FROM???
He said "This NEVER happens because keys are always at the home." We were " supposed to leave the keys" (He said that about 10 times in 10 minutes)
I was at work addressing this, and they are fighting me for $20. TWENTY DOLLARS.
Fine. I told my mom to pay the guy and be done with it, and him, and the company.
What other choice did I have, really?
Mr. Rekey: So you have NEVER had a neighbor open the door for a client who wasn't home and they didn't have a key; or you have NEVER had a younger child at home open the door who didn't have a key for your tech?
This NEVER happens?? Never? Really? (Actually, it's a rhetorical question.)
So, instead of the tech saying:
* "Yeah, our bad, we should have told you that, let me take care of that for you and I will bring it up in the office", OR a
* "As a one-time courtesy, I will take care of it for you" response; you know, the "standard customer service response" I would have expected; instead, I get:
* "I need the additional $20 before I can do the work."
Fine, so we paid him the extra $20 bucks. Work is done. The locks are fine. It's 20 bucks, no biggie; but it's more the principal of them not telling me to leave the old keys in the first place; and then the nerve to tell me " I should have known to leave them", then followed by the demand for an extra charge.
Then I decided to call the Mr. Re-Key office later that day and I shared my "experience" with them. (As far as I see, this is all on them. They neglected to tell me leave the keys; I didn't; and now they charged me extra because of their neglect; period. At a minimum, start telling your customers that. (That would have been my request.))
I was told that this "Would be escalated, and "We will call you to address it" I felt vindicated!
Any guesses what happened next? You guessed it: Zip. Zilch. Nada. It's been over a week.
So, you sure did get your extra 20 bucks. Congrat's!
Here's what I'm doing: (Mostly because of the no-call back as promised.)
1. Posting this review with my experience. At a minimum, other potential clients will see that they are "supposed to know to leave the old keys"; in the event they even want to consider using you.
2. Never calling them again. And advising others of the same.
3. Called American Home Shield and sharing this "experience" with them. Maybe they can sub-contract to someone other than Mr. Re-Key. Or at least a secondary vendor. Gotta be someone else out there. (They also sent me a survey; that's getting filled out.)
4. Calling my Real Estate Agent and sharing this experience with her. She's the largest selling real-estate agent for her company in the NW burbs of Chicago. It was her recommendation that we use American Home Shield for our Home Warranty in the first place, and they only sub-contract out and use Mr. Re-Key. I will ask her to start steering her clients away from American Home Shield; thus a direct impact on Mr. Re-Key. (I wonder if that will cost Mr. Re-Key more or less than $20 in lost business?)
But hey, you got your extra $20!! read more
